In feed production good binding is as important as quality of the ingredients. A good sinking feed must be stable in water for at least 2hours
3 factors determine the stability of feed
1. Type of binding stuff used
2. Quantity and preparation method
3. Type of pelletising machine used
Sadly pelletiser hardly have the time to observe this 3 factors. When u change water and you see so many residue know that you feed leech easily in water. This could be very dangerous for your fish most especially concrete pond.
The quantity of binding stuff is detemine by type of binding agent used and age of your fish.
I use minimum of 15% in the first 2month. I increase it to over 25% during the last 2month when i introduce corn flour. The real thing is how you prepare your cabonhydrate stuff
Thanks once again for the info.

You can use so many binding agents such as aqua ll, tapiocca, cassava starch/flour, corn flour molasis and other starchy stuff but gelatinity depends on preparation.
Baker's yeast can be use as floating agent. The problem is in cost/quantity implication.
Contact goldgate2003@yahoo.com for advice on floating feed
Sir, what quantity of cassava starch can be added to 100kg feed to achieve excellent binding?

Thanks for the detailed answer. You are right about the yeast due to high cost thereby limiting its use. Anyway I will contact you via email. Thanks once again.

With the high cost in foreign/local feed, I intend formulating my own feed. Please, where can I get a very good crusher, mixer, pelletizing machine. Cost for each should be included. Thanks

Please, can someone help me with my request. Thanks

I must say, reading this thread from start to finish is definitely a game changer. To everyone that has contributed one way or the other, I salute you.
I intend going into pig farming but the whole idea is to start small and grow into a big commercial farm. With feeding cost as a focus.
Please, kindly provide me with the recommended spacing requirement (square foot per pig) as detailed below for.
1. Boar
2. Sows/Gilts
3. Furrowing pig
4. Weaner pig
5. Grower pig
6. Finisher
With this, I can design the pen to get the targeted market weight and also estimate the number of plots needed for future expansion. The plan is to have a monthly sales of 100-500 mature pigs (future plan). Again feeding cost a top priority. Dreaming big guys. Thanks

my concept would have being to use this your water source to service ponds that are dug not as deep as your 12 feets. My reasons 1.)you don't over labour your fishes when they come to feed, food that would have aid faster growth will be wasted on physical efforts 2.)Harvest will be a bit difficult, though not impossible 3.) drainage design will be difficult, still not impossible i.e. you can pump out. 4.)don't go & fall into a 12 feet pond, get a life jacket handy.other ?,read thru d thread, visit agricnetwork

That's the thought, putting design on paper will implement soon. Thanks

i wrote my thought already, but i want to encourage u sir to just use this thread by patiently reading it, when through,u would to a large extent be able to face d world of fishfarming & some/ also all possible challenges that a fishfarmer can encounter. Just take this advice sir & within it you get d answer yourself. Be bless

Thanks for your reply Boss man. The design of the earthen ponds depth will be 3ft to 4ft but I am just thinking if its possible to dig a big pit where water comes from the ground. Then the water will be channel to the earthen ponds. all waste water will be passed to the river.

I am addicted to this thread from its birth boss man and also I have an existing farm with concrete tanks.
Thanks for the tip.

Just to ask, how many fish per meter square is stocked in earthen ponds to get the best weight gain or result. grin

@ robonski, ab1x, lagbaja, juve, soft77, excelsior or everybody kindly, assist with my questions below

1. For an earthen pond of 2000 capacity what’s the dimension that can hold them to table size?
2. How many fish per square meter
3. What is the spacing between each pond?

The land is not swampy but when you dig to 12 foot, water comes from the ground to fill the pond. Please, what’s the best way to design the pond? Thanks

MAKE UNA HELP OOOOOOOOOOOO. PLS

Yes it does. If you think 1 Square foot isnt enough, you can use 1.5 square feet. 2 square feet is too much.
Thanks

The standard is 1 Square Foot per bird. 100 ft by 25 ft will do.
Very helpful. Does the spacing have direct relationship with the targeted market weight and what is the benefit of using 2 square foot per bird. Thanks

Charcoal as source of heat. Cover the pen in sacks or taupulin and cardboard as chick guard. Cost of housing depends on the standard of the pen, the topography of the land and other factors. A budget of 1M should build a 2000 - 3000 capacity pen. It could be lesser or more depending on your taste.
Nice one,you are doing great. Please, kindly advice the dimension of the housing that will accommodate 2,500 broilers to maturity. Or how many birds per square meter. Thanks

From your evaluation, its sure when you use coppen you actually are rationing your feed to your fish because of cost ...let me explain something when feed is rationed ,fine trying to save cost ...but the truth is the more u ration the more your hungry fish feed on other fishes in your pond ..and carnibalism increases and this directly means you will loose lots of fishes at harvest ...This is the reason why MAGNET GELATIN FEED comes into play cheaper means you can afford to feed them more because the growth rate of catfish depends on how many time you feed them ...you do not expect a farmer who feeds 2 times a day to get same result with a farmer that feed 3 times a day ....but when your feed cost is too high ,many things comes to play ..1 FEED LESS GET LESS RESULT 2: FEED MORE AND GET HIGH COST OF PRODUCTION .....So how do u balance this equation in a way you feed more and still remain at the minimal cost of production...this the gelatin ..with MAGNET GELATIN FEED you can achieve both ... and be at optimal profit ...YOU WILL NEED ABOUT 750 KG of our feed to get to your same target ....costing far lesser and getting the desired growth and weight at harvest GOD BLESS. As for the percentage compositions of our feed remains a business secret thank you
@soft777 I DO NOT RATION FEED FOR MY FISH, my explanation only shows that with coppens fewer bags are used because of its quality not COST compared to vital or Topfeed. I use 600-650 bags of feed for 10,000 fish when feed with coopens or zeigler and 800 bags for 10,000 when feed with VITAL FEED or TOPFEED. I am not asking for your feed ingredient composition but to know other analysis apart from the main game changer 60% crude protein. Other feed manufacturers states the crude fiber, crude fat and so on. I wonder why u say its a secret. Well hoping to get my hands on a truck load of your feed so I can also see its wonders and dance to the bank. grin

GELATIN FEED IS NOW AVAILABLE IN P.H

@Robonski and @Soft777, Congrats on your hard work and am sure this is a game changer for all fish farmers. Thumps-up.
Just to ask a few questions.

1. What are the guaranteed Analysis of the Gelatin feed outside the Crude protein. i.e
Crude Fat
Crude Fiber
Crude Ash
Phosphorous
Calcium
Sodium

2. For every 1000 fish, I normally use 60-65 bags of Coppen or Zeigler feed. Which is 900kg - 975kg. All bags in 15kg Then when using Vital or its like, they consume 80 bags to 1000 fish which is 1200kg
My question is, how many kg of your Gelatin feed will 1000 fish consume to 1kg and above market size. Thanks
