Foreign Affairs / Iran Billionaire Babak Zanjani Sentenced To Death (Because Of Corruption!!!) by wildrose21(m): 4:57pm On Mar 06, 2016
Billionaire Iranian businessman Babak Zanjani has been sentenced to death for corruption, justice officials say.

He was arrested in December 2013 after accusations that he withheld billions in oil revenue channelled through his companies. He denies the allegations.

Zanjani, 42, was convicted of fraud and economic crimes, a judiciary spokesperson said at a press briefing.

One of Iran's richest men, Zanjani was blacklisted by the US and EU for helping Iran evade oil sanctions.

Two others were sentenced to death along with him and all were ordered to repay embezzled funds
. The ruling can be appealed.

And tomorrow, they will all come out and complain about corruption. If we are to be sincere with ourselves, virtually all of us in Nigeria are corrupt... From those of us giving little bribes here and there at offices (secretaries), to those of us jumping queue, to those who eat and drink and drop the pack on the floor, just because people old enough to be their mothers will sweep it the next day (wicked and shallow mentality), etc. As for those politicians and pastors, hmmm, comments reserved!!!

Why expat Americans are giving up their passports
By Russell Newlove Business reporter, BBC News

How does it feel to give up your nationality, to renounce the country you were born in, potentially forfeiting the chance to ever return?

"It's not going to be easy at all. It's the last thing I ever thought of doing," Jane tells me when I meet her in a Paris cafe.

Her voice cracks and her eyes well up. She is in the process of relinquishing her American nationality. Soon she'll visit the US embassy formally to renounce her citizenship, she says, under duress.

"I'm very proud of being an American. It's what I am when I look in the mirror.

"If it weren't for Fatca [the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act] and the decision by the bank, I'd never be doing this. Never ever. It's just breaking me in half."

She's not alone. According to the US Treasury, a record 4,279 individuals renounced their US citizenship or long-term residency in 2015 - an increase of 20% on the previous year, which was itself a record-breaking year.

In 2010, just 1,006 gave up being US citizens, but since then the numbers have risen every year.

Double taxation

Reasons for giving up your US citizenship aren't officially listed, but one of the main reasons cited is Fatca - a 2012 law designed to target overseas accounts held by wealthy Americans.
As a US citizen you must file a tax return, no matter where you live, and often pay US taxes on top of the tax you already pay in your country of residence - so-called double taxation.
But Fatca expands the scope of what can be taxed, and places a burden on foreign banks to identify US citizens among their customers to US tax authorities. The penalty for failing to do so can be as high as 30% of all a bank's dealings with the USA.

Refused banking

As a result, ordinary Americans abroad are being denied access to basic banking facilities; banks would rather refuse US citizens' custom than run the risk of hefty penalties.

"I went to one and as soon as I typed in I was born in the United States, there was a big set of red letters that said 'No to US persons'," says Jane.

"I've got to pay my bills, I've got to buy food - I've got to have a bank."

For people like her the only option is to renounce their citizenship, and this is causing such a backlog of paperwork that in November, the fee for renunciation was put up to $2,350 - an increase of about 400%.

Jane has lived and worked in France for 30 years drawing what she calls a "humble" salary. She has filed a tax return every year even though she earns significantly less than $106,000 a year.

But under Fatca her pension and savings can also be taxed, and that's money she can't afford to lose.

The process to renounce is humiliating, she says.

It must be done in person, in front of other Americans at the US embassy. Her real name will then be published in the Federal Register (Jane agreed to talk to the BBC anonymously) - a move she feels is made to shame those who renounce.

And it's expensive too.

'Accidental Americans'

Many foreign banks are taking no chances either. They are closing down accounts of anyone who might be an "accidental American". This could be anyone with an American parent but born outside the US, or people of other nationalities born in the US - like Fabien.

"I live in France, I work in France, my life is in France. I have no link to the United States. My life as a Frenchman is in France," Fabien tells me through an interpreter. "I don't even speak English!"
His bank demanded he either provide proof he had renounced his US citizenship, or his social security number. He had neither. Renouncing his "accidental" US citizenship is no mean feat, either.
"We have to enter into the American system at the risk of substantial penalties. I have to submit the last five years' tax returns, but then also the next two years in order to renounce," he says.

"We're in a situation where it's unknown what will happen when we start. I have to have money to be able to pay the expenses to enter into the system, and then I have to pay to renounce."

Well, did some digging, and came up with this... Will release in bits to help those who hate reading 'story books'

Libya, America, and Human Rights: Facts or Fiction by Dr. Robert D. Crane

There is one problem with this account. According to Nizar Mhani (Niz Ben-Essa) of the Free Generation Movement in his article, “Myths of the Gaddafi Regime Explained”, distributed by the Libya Outreach Group on October 24, 2011, from FGMovement on Facebook, every one of the above claims is bogus. Specifically:

1. There are no electricity bills in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.

Categorically untrue. Despite poor electricity infrastructure and poor coverage of electricity lines, even in the Capital, Libyan home owners pay monthly/quarterly (area dependant) electricity bills based on meter readings. Electricity is cut off in instances of unpaid bills. Reconnection upon payment is not instant. The electric infrastructure is weak and some areas of Libya do not have electricity available at all.

2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.

Categorically untrue. Banks all over Libya have been giving out loans for years and years. There is a percentage rate charge on all loans, which is comparable to an interest rate, but in the spirit of ‘islamic ethics’ it is not called interest, it is called an ‘Administrative Expense’ – Masareef Edareeya.

3. A House is considered a human right in Libya ¬ Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi¹s father has died while he, his wife and his mother are still living in a tent.

Gaddafi abused this human right as much as he did other basic rights. It is well known in Libya that political opponents and successful business men/women had their homes confiscated and handed over to regime members, usually rewards for Free Officers – Dubat A7rar. Many farms and homes and businesses were confiscated during three infamous phases of Libyas dictatorial history:
 1969 – The dreaded Green Revolution. Free Officers were rewarded land, homes, and farms that sometimes belonged to other people and the original owners were not compensated or asked if this was ok.
 Late 70’s - The introduction of the law Albayt le Sakinehee – The Home Belongs to its Dwellers. As this law was passed overnight, thousands of homeowners instantly lost their homes, as tenants (those renting the homes) claimed ownership on account of being the ‘dwellers’. The law applied to homes, farms, shops, etc.
 90’s - The introduction of Purification Committees (Lejnat al Tatheer). This committee ran by the widely know slogan, ‘Min ayna laka hada?’ – “From where did you obtain this?”, a form of ultra-socialism where people’s possessions, including homes and businesses, were confiscated if seen to be ‘surplus to requirement’ or contributing to a ‘monopoly’.
Regarding Gaddafis ‘vow’: While Gaddafi waited for ‘everyone in Libya’ to be housed, he himself lived in a sprawling 6km square compound in the centre of the capital which was home to state of the art security and an underground network of rooms and ultramodern bunkers. He also had a vast and well known farm on Airport Road in Tripoli. This, just in the capital.

4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.

This is a well known rumour and a common joke in Libya. Whilst it may have been passed as official legislation, I know of not a single family who has been given this grant. The backbreaking bureaucracy associated with such grants and loans make them more or less impossible to obtain.

5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.

Education and Health Care – Free does not mean adequate. It is well known that Libya’s standard of health care is nothing short of appalling. It is widely known that the majority of Libyans seeking medical care leave for neighbouring countries for treatment. Our Education system is no better. It is outdated, teachers are underpaid and under-trained and libraries are largely non-existent. The syllabus was constantly being revised and reviewed under direct instruction from the former regime e.g. banning English, changing Quranic verses, etc.
It is commonly said that Libyans would be happy to forfeit their ‘free health care’ and pay for a National Health Service if it was up to the required standard.

Politics / Facts About Libya And Gaddafi. How True??? by wildrose21(m): 11:45pm On Oct 05, 2015
1. Gaddafi called on all oil-producing countries NOT to accept payment for oil in USD or Euros. He recommended that oil get paid for in GOLD and that would have bankrupted just about every Western Country as most of them do not have gold reserves to match the rate at which they print their useless currencies.
Remember the last time someone had the
“NERVE” to make a similar statement was when
Saddam Hussein advised all Opec countries not
to accept payment for oil in US Dollars. Well, we
all know what happened to him .
2. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity
is free for all its citizens.
3. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya
are state-owned and loans given to all its
citizens at 0% interest by law.
4. Home considered a human right in Libya –
Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a
house until everyone in Libya had a home.
Gaddafi’s father has
died while him, his wife and his mother are still
living in a tent.
5. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar
(US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their
first apartment so to help start up the family.
6. Education and medical treatments are free in
Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are
literate. Today the figure is 83%.
7. Should Libyans want to take up farming
career, they would receive farming land, a
farming house, equipment, seeds and livestock to
kick- start their farms – all for free.
8. If Libyans cannot find the education or
medical facilities they need in Libya, the
government funds them to go abroad for it – not
only free but they get US $2, 300/month
accommodation and car allowance.
9. In Libyan, if a Libyan buys a car, the
government subsidized 50% of the price.
10. The price of petrol in Libya is $0. 14 per liter.
11. Libya has no external debt and its reserves
amount to $150 billion – now frozen globally.
12. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after
graduation the state would pay the average
salary of the profession as if he or she is
employed until
employment is found.
13. A portion of Libyan oil sale is, credited
directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan
citizens.
14. A mother who gave birth to a child receive
US $5 ,000
15. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $ 0.15
16. 25% of Libyans have a university degree
17. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest
irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made
River project, to make water readily available
throughout the desert country.

Sports / Week 8 Premier League Predictions: BBC's Lawro V Former NFL Star Osi Umenyiora by wildrose21(m): 7:49am On Oct 02, 2015
All kick-offs 15:00 BST unless otherwise stated

SATURDAY

Crystal Palace v West Brom (12:45 BST)

At the start of the year, when Tony Pulis took over at West Brom and Alan Pardew became Crystal Palace manager, it was the Baggies who I thought would really kick on.
It is the Eagles who have made the bigger improvement, though. They have won lots of games, especially away from home when they hit teams on the break.
Injuries cost West Brom - Pulis
But West Brom will not leave themselves open to counter-attacks and I can see them sitting in and keeping things very tight, even more so after losing to Everton on Monday having been 2-0 up.
Pulis laid the foundations for this Palace success and his main aim on his return to Selhurst Park will be to avoid being beaten.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa v Stoke

Stoke got their first win of the season against Bournemouth last week, and I don't think there was ever any doubt that the Potters were going to improve.
I see that improvement continuing at Villa Park because Mark Hughes has got quality in his squad, and he has also got some scrappers.
The worry for Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is that he does not have enough of either.
Villa face fight to stay up - Sherwood
Aside from Rudy Gestede, none of their summer signings have caught the eye yet and there is no way you can tell me they look a better team than last year.
The reality of the situation is that they are in a relegation fight. Sherwood has admitted it, but some of their new players will be thinking "I didn't sign up for this".

Lawro's prediction: 1-2

Bournemouth v Watford

Callum Wilson's serious knee injury is a cruel blow for him and for Bournemouth after the superb start he has made to the season.
Wilson injury a massive blow - Howe
Defender Tyrone Mings and winger Max Gradel are also out long-term and those injuries are part of the reason this game has become much more important for the Cherries.
It is only the start of October but the outcome of this game could prove vital to who stays up in May.
Watford are another team who seem to be better away from home but I am backing Bournemouth to get the three points.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1

Man City v Newcastle

Manchester City's last-gasp win over Borussia Monchengladbach was a great result but it does not hide the fact they got away with another poor defensive display.
The wheels have come off a bit since their defeat by Juventus, when Vincent Kompany was injured. Considering City's vast resources, it is amazing that he is so badly missed.
This strikes me as a good game for City to have, however, because Newcastle have got problems too.
The Magpies were much better in their draw against Chelsea but I think Steve McClaren is right to tell his side's fans that there is going to be more pain before things improve significantly.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Norwich v Leicester

It will be interesting to see how Leicester react after their first defeat of the season, against Arsenal last week.
Norwich have been decent at home since they were turned over by Crystal Palace on the opening day.
I think they will tear into the Foxes, and I fancy them to beat them.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1

Sunderland v West Ham

From what I have seen so far this season, Sunderland are the worst team in the Premier League.
West Ham have been brilliant away from home, so you might think this will be a straightforward victory for the Hammers.
But football does not work like that, which is why we love it, and why I am going for a surprise result at the Stadium of Light.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Chelsea v Southampton (17:30 BST)

I was in Porto on Tuesday to see Chelsea lose in the Champions League and I actually thought their performance wasn't too bad.
Jose Mourinho blames 'ridiculous mistakes'
Diego Costa led the Blues line extremely well and caused a lot of problems for the two Porto centre-backs.
Costa will be badly missed at the weekend and Chelsea need the likes of Willian and Eden Hazard to step up in his absence and start to play.
It is the same with Pedro - everyone raved about him in his first game against West Brom but he has been nothing more than OK since then.
Because they are at home, and because Southampton are not back at the level they reached last season, I am going to go for a Chelsea win - but they need to show some more improvement.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1

SUNDAY

Everton v Liverpool (13:30 BST)

Everton are up in fifth place and have made a really good start to the season.
Win huge for Everton - Martinez
The funny thing is, I was at their first game of the season, at home to Watford, and all the fans were complaining about the lack of signings and how they played too much tippy-tappy football.
They are not moaning much at the moment, which just shows you how quickly things can change when results pick up.
Credit to Toffees boss Roberto Martinez because he has managed to find a way of playing with Arouna Kone and Romelu Lukaku together up front.
Everton are in better form, but this is a derby and that tends to go out of the window.
Whether I follow my heart or my head, it does not make much difference because they are such horrible games to predict.
I am going for a draw, which is a result Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will be happier with at the moment.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Arsenal v Man Utd (16:00 BST)

Manchester United are top of the league and lots of things are working well for Louis van Gaal at the moment.
Man Utd 2-1 Wolfsburg: We have to improve - Louis van Gaal
Their midfield is very good at shielding their defence and their combination at centre-back of a skilful player in Daley Blind and an out-and-out stopper in Chris Smalling is working well.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger comes into this game on the back of making a big mistake by playing David Ospina in goal against Olympiakos instead of Petr Cech.
Wenger will come in for some serious stick if his side lose this game too, but I have a funny feeling that Arsenal will end up winning on Sunday - it would be typical of the Gunners if they do.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Swansea v Tottenham (16:00 BST)

With three league wins in a row, Tottenham are on a great run. With only one point from their last three league games, Swansea aren't.
Swans not up to scratch - Monk
Again I'm going to look beyond the form table here, because I think Swansea will improve sooner or later.
If the Welsh side are back on their game, Spurs will not see much of the ball - and being without the injured Son Heung-min will not help the visitors.
I am going for a draw, which would keep Tottenham ticking over and halt Swansea's slide.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Lawro was speaking to BBC Sport's Chris Bevan.

Not in general... But he can't take another wife, until the other is dead.

He can take another wife IF and only if he divorced the first on grounds of infidelity...else, he's on his way to doom.
Bro, based on Matt. 19:9 (KJV).... which stated that the only ground for putting away one's wife is fornication, I don't think your assertion is totally true, because once one is married, one can only commit adultery; so even for adultery, he still can't divorce her and remarry. If he does remarry, he too becomes an adulterer. The young maidens of Israel weren't permitted to have s3x before marriage (fornication). I believe whoever did and then got married could be put away (remember Joseph wanted to put away Mary until he was warned of God). My opinion though. The bible could be difficult to interpret at times. Happy Sunday y'all
