iamjane: Thanks a lot. I've received them.
Hopefully you would be available to answer my questions after studying them.
But meanwhile, each time I approach some persons about running a school, they wave it aside saying the competition is much and that parents take advantage of it by not paying fees. Do you think that's enough reason to be discouraged? Nope , I was once in your shoes , everyone discouraged me , even our very own family friend , but God helped me , in the midst of strong competition is where my success is guaranteed , now lately I finpd myself praying for more competitors ........ |
Nairaland General › Weekend Digest : OBEDIENCE by williams20(op): 8:57pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
OBEDIENCE : KEY TO LONG LIFE
Proverbs 4:10b Hear , O my son , and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be many. Proverbs 3:1-2, Psalm 119:165
Obedience is either in full or nothing There is no such thing as partial obedience . E.O.T William
The key to ,long life is to obey all the instruction of our maker. Until we learn to obey Gods word we can't benefit or inherit generational blessings . Gods principles are already set and they can't change . he won't have to bend his rules to suit us, NO! , we are to bend our lives to fit into his laws.
One of the. Most rewarding virtues in life is OBEDIENCE. The tree of obedience yields a lot of fruits but obedience is one of the values we don't give credence to as Christians . we often overlook obedience and expect to receive generational blessings . We can't expect to receive what Abraham received without doing what Abraham did .
No man or woman can please God if he/she won't obey Gods laws. Abraham was a man who obeyed God and it was counted unto him as righteousness .
What is God asking you to forsake ? Or requesting you to do today? He is not asking for took much , He only wants the best for you and he has the best in store for you.
Heb 5:9 ……………. God is calling on you today to review your obedience life , Have you been obeying God in part? Bear in mind that partial obedience is as good as total disobedience. He wants us to fully obey all of his laws , then can we inherit generational blessings and promises . Deuteronomy 11:27
What a loving father, determine today to begin a life of complete obedience and the rewards shall follow in Jesus name . Amen
In His Service Pastor Ezekiel, Peter O
The holy spirit took me to my archives this evening, to show me this wonderful piece he led me to write in 2013 This note was written on the 14th day of march 2013 , exactly 2 years ago , the Lord is passing a message lately about obedience , Key into God's plan and don't miss out . |

The morale of this write up is not to limit anyone but to explain financial prudency as regards marriage spendings , I've always mentioned it that more than 25% of the expenses of every elaborate wedding is not needed , so with proper planning , you can always have a dream wedding without having to burn your purse. The basic thing needed by your school to thrive anywhere is to simply find the missing link in that area , sample what all other schools are doing and then DON'T do any of it.
Identify your market first , where will the bulk of your buyers come from ,
A premier school is a school that's been in existence for a while and has therefore gained reputation , respect and big profile , additionally Premier schools do not basically sell academic skills or brilliance , they simply sell the great things that their customers want . for example if you are targeting the high profile men of the society to be your customers then you must be willing to make the architecture , scenery and school a masterpiece in terms of design , painting. And facilities , and also you must offer extra services like overseas excursion , and the likes of them . Examples of common premier schools in lagos are 1. Grange 2. Vivian Fowler Etc
A budget school is therefore a cut your coat according to your cloth school A school where strict academic lessons are delivered to an appreciable height and only a little extra is added , like hostel facilities Because the bulk of the buyers can't afford to pay high fees and they want to enjoy quality education that's all . |

Abojupupa: Thanks. My fear is location. someone said something about location being important. I want to know if a school located in a place just developing is ok. You don't really need to worry about your location , a school can thrive just anywhere life is But you need first to study your environment , you can give to your environment what it doesn't appreciate and next is to know your customers . a good knowledge of your customers will guide you on the type of school to set up Remember we have 1. Premier schools 2. Budget schools |

uken73: I'm also interested in owning and running a school someday. It's in my long term plan & I'm currently working on increasing my capital base and a few other logistics. From the little of your posts & responses I've read, I understand that; 1. You have a little experience as a teacher (Very Important, but would have been best if you have a management level experience too, like that of a Principal or Vice). 2. You don't have much in terms of Capital.
In my own terms, I would say schools can be started by an Investor or a School Administrator. As an Investor, you have enough money to invest and can hire experts to handle almost everything while you just supervise. An administrator can also have capital, but has reasonable working knowledge of the education system. This knowledge can greatly reduce the amount of money you will spend in setting up. And an administrator can even start so small (even with no capital).
In your case were capital is a challenge, you should consider starting as an after school lesson class. This way, you won't need too much to start and you would gradually build the confidence and goodwill that will encourage people to send their wards to you. To get a quick start, you can start the lessons free even if it's in your backyard. The idea can be itemized as follows; 1. You don't need much to get started. 2. You use the opportunity to build a reputation. If parents realize their wards performances in school improves after sending them for extra lessons with you, they now believe in you and many will be ready to withdraw their wards to join your school when you get started. 3. You can be the only teacher for a start and not need to worry about paying anyone. By the time you have a reasonable number and begin to charge, you can engage others to assist you and pay as little as you can afford. 4. You won't need to bother about registration at this time.
If you are good, in a little while your small extra lesson group grows, you begin to charge, you now have little money that you can begin engaging other hands for assistance and you have a little pool to start you new school from. If your lessons class grows to a good number, you would have learnt a lot and made friends with many parents. Most of these parents would even begin suggest and urge you to start your own school. You share the idea with as many parents and get their feedback. When you see you have many of them encourage and promise to enroll their wards, then you have the confidence to start. By this time, you should have also been able to raise some capital from the little you've done so far. At this time you can also have the confidence to get loan from family & friends. (I won't encourage going for bank loan). Bank loan can be a serious burden. Bank loan can only be reasonable when you are well established with good turnover, unless you have other means of repaying the loan aside from your young school. If you have made many parents happy, you will have a good number that will be willing to assist you. At this stage you can consider renting an apartment (if you don't already have one). And go for one that will be enough for your student population and a little allowance for expansion, and is also at your reach to pay. You will likely be starting with one or two classes, depending on the responses you got from parents. You can continue with the after school lessons for both your new school children and other children from other schools that you don't yet have a class for. And you can grow from there.
I think this is the simplest way to start where you don't have capital. It will require lots of patience and hard work, but if you are good, you'll make it. Well said , the best way to start is to make it a free offer or a money back guarantee , Offer it first , if you deliver and earn your customer's trust , then charge premium. And please doing forget that exceptional customer service will take you there fast. |

PilotOz: Starting a school requires not just fund, but a high level of deligence, humility and patience... Williams and others have said it all, Start small and grow big. In my area, there's the lady that started 3 yrs ago with just wood and zinc... she started the low cost building as a home lesson where primary school pupils can go on saturdays and during the holiday. And she was equally preparing basic 5 for their common entrance... There was a small free land, and she just rented the space frm the owner. And she started the building.. She's expanding gradually.. And its now a full school with basic 1-5 and kindergattern. There's a small play ground with see-saw and other swings, And this lady is so commited to the work.. she started very small, and nobody thought she will still remain in the business becos the work load was nerve wracking... Now she has staffs... she started with employing SSCE graduates... Just start small... And grow big Well Said ! Be dedicated , Deliver what you promise your parents and up you'll go , start big with the best facilities but refuse to deliver good service , closure is inevitable |

kweku8888: I run a school,so I can give you some tips, dont ever let anyone discourage you from your passion, if really its your passion.
Have an humble beginning, it may look dull and rough at the beginning, but try as much as possible to be involved fully with all your might and sacrifice all you can into it not minding cost, and the skies will be your beginning. goodluck. You said it just as it ought to be presented . A lot of computer-administrators with facts and figures will discourage you but the truth is , you can always do it if you want to , when my school started in 2003 we have almost nothing to start with but today we are moving on , still aiming higher tho but presently among the best of school in my neighborhood . |

The presence or abundance of schools in an area doesn't stop a new school owner from starting his/her business provided you maintain the appropriate safe distance to next business door as approved by the ministry of education , remember it's only competition that drives growth , where there is no competition , there can't be growth... Remember a kite rises against the wind not with the wind . |

Expressions: Wow, that was really starting from the rock bottom.
Kindly, at what point or stage did it become necessary to register the school and then also get government approval? I know it varies with states, but what would be the conditions/standards.... and monetary estimate for the registration and approval? Yes oooo rock bottom as it is fondly called School registration and state approval is not beans When you start your school , don't think of the state approval within the first 2_ 3 years , work on your standard and your name , there is no point spending millions on state approval when you don't have customers Sell the name first , earn your parents confidence and trust , build a great school , not necessarily a building but a solid academic structure And work on workforce , If you have your classrooms , a functional library and equipment with coooooooool cash then walk up to the registration arena but in the mean time you can get the CAC registration for your school , it helps a lot |
