Arsene Wenger signed the likes of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira for Arsenal, but according to Goal.com, he regrets missing out on a number of football's biggest stars in no particular order. . 1. ANGEL DI MARIA | Wenger: "We had identified Di Maria when he was 17. We wanted him to come here but he goes to Portugal and from Portugal he goes to Spain. Why? Because he could not get a work permit." . . 2. LIONEL MESSI | Wenger: "It's true, it's just that he [Messi] didn't want to move. In the end, he was comfortable at Barcelona." . . 3. CRISTIANO RONALDO | Wenger: "My biggest regret? I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo...that of course still hurts today." . . 4. PAUL POGBA | Wenger: "We were interested in him. We tried to get him to come here. But he very quickly signed for Juventus." . . 5. DIEGO COSTA | Wenger: "Yes [I wanted Costa], but that was a deal that was struck early." . . 6. EDEN HAZARD | Wenger: "Yes, I wanted to take him...the barrier was financial and Chelsea made an effort that I couldn't make." . . 7. ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC | Wenger: "He was 16. I asked him to have a little training session with the first team and he didn't want to do it." . . 8. GARETH BALE | Wenger: "We didn't take him as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy...I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield." . . 9. LUIS SUAREZ | Wenger: "Did he want to join us? I do not want to dwell any more on that situation - it was one of the transfers that did not work." . . 10. JUAN MATA | Wenger: "Mata is a similar type to Cazorla. I don't exactly remember how it worked chronologically but we were interested in Mata." . . 11. YAYA TOURE | Wenger: "It would be up at the top [of my regrets]. But let's not forget that Yaya Toure had an agreement with us...he went to Ukraine." . . 12. GERARD PIQUE | Wenger: "We wanted to take Fabregas, Messi and Pique. It worked only for Fabregas." . . 13. DIDIER DROGBA | Wenger: "I missed him when he played at Le Mans...I knew there was a good player there and I missed him." . . 14. CESC FABREGAS | Wenger: "Certainly, yes [Fabregas wanted to return]. But when he left we bought Mesut Ozil." . . 15. KINGSLEY COMAN | Wenger: "Yes we really tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014. The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred Juventus." . . 16. ROMELU LUKAKU | Wenger: "Yes [we looked at him] since he was young. He opted to go to Chelsea, he is developing every year." ---------- Source: http://www.kamalsbase.com/317/really-here-are-some-popular-popular-football-stars-arsenal-coach-arsene-wenger-claimed-to-nearly-sign Join more interesting discussions on Naija's No.1 Post & Earn Social Forum => www.kamalsbase.com |
If you know any Baha'is, you might want to go to their New Year's party on Friday. You're invited. You see, Baha'is celebrate New Year's Day on the first day of spring, the vernal equinox. We don't carouse, get drunk and wait for the fireworks to go off at midnight – instead we sing, eat, dance and socialize together; a warm, diverse and fascinating group of people enjoying each other and truly welcoming the exciting, unlimited future possibilities of a new year. Naw-Ruz is the Baha'i feast of hospitality and rejoicing. This year, 171 years after the beginning of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'is all over the world will celebrate Naw-Ruz (which is Persian for, yes, you guessed it, "New Year" as the annual festival of the spiritual and physical springtime. As flowers bloom and bushes bud out and birds trill in the trees, the Baha'is will smile and laugh and hug each other warmly. They'll truly "eat, drink and be merry," in the oldest and best sense of that celebratory phrase. Blue HyacinthThe annual 19-day Baha'i fasting period comes to a close on the day before Naw-Ruz; which means the Baha'is have prepared for the coming year by practicing detachment from this material world, symbolically cleansing the detritus of the old in the same way the winter storms wash away last year's dead leaves. Abstaining from food and drink from sunrise to sunset every day, the Baha'i Fast has a powerful impact on those who practice it, emptying their stomachs as it fills their souls. And when the Fast comes to a close the New Year begins. Naw-Ruz (or Nowruz, one of its many other spellings) qualifies as the world's oldest holiday. Here's what Wikipedia says: Nowruz is celebrated by people from diverse ethnic communities and religious backgrounds for thousands of years. It is a secular holiday that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths. It originated in the geographical area called Greater Persia (modern day Iran, Western Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). The distinct culture based on the language, food, music and leisure activities that developed among the many people and ethnic groups who lived in this area are known as Persians. Nowruz is partly rooted in the religious tradition of Zoroastrianism. Among other ideas, Zoroastrianism is the first ever monotheistic religion that emphasizes broad concepts such as the corresponding work of good and evil in the world, and the connection of humans to nature. Zoroastrian practices were dominant for much of the history of ancient Persia (centered in what is now Iran). Nowruz is believed to have been invented by Zoroaster himself, although there is no clear date of origin. Since the Achaemenid era the official year has begun with the New Day when the Sun leaves the zodiac of Pisces and enters the zodiacal sign of Aries, signifying the Spring Equinox. Nowruz is also a holy day for Sufis, Bektashis, Ismailis, Alawites, Alevis, Babis and adherents of the Baha'i Faith. The UN's General Assembly in 2010 recognized the International Day of Nowruz, describing it as a spring festival of Persian origin which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years. During the meeting of The Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage of the United Nations, held between 28 September – 2 October 2009 in Abu Dhabi, Nowrūz was officially registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For Baha'is, Naw-Ruz isn't just a party – it serves as a reminder of the oneness of all the Messengers of God, and the spiritual springtime they each brought to humanity. Abdu'l-Baha explains that Naw-Ruz represents "the Day of God," when a re-awakening of the spirit occurs and the light of a new revelation shines equally upon the entirety of God's creation: Soon the whole world, as in springtime, will change its garb. The turning and falling of the autumn leaves is past; the bleakness of the winter time is over. The new year hath appeared and the spiritual springtime is at hand. The black earth is becoming a verdant garden; the deserts and mountains are teeming with red flowers; from the borders of the wilderness the tall grasses are standing like advance guards before the cypress and jasmine trees; while the birds are singing among the rose branches like the angels in the highest heavens, announcing the glad-tidings of the approach of that spiritual spring, and the sweet music of their voices is causing the real essence of all things to move and quiver. – Baha'i World Faith, p. 351. ---------- Source: http://www.kamalsbase.com/318/the-bahai-new-year-naw-ruz-is-here-its-that-joyous-season-again Join more interesting discussions on Naija's No.1 Post & Earn Social Forum => www.kamalsbase.com |

He said that the defendant and the complainant had been having grudges over the defendant's refusal to pay her electricity and waste bills. Adebunmi Adeniran, a Nigerian linguist based in the United Kingdom has invented a multilingual keyboard which supports and enables writing in at least 12 Nigerian languages correctly as well as the use of correct signs and tones to give instant meaning to the reader. . The multilingual keyboard known as "Nailangs" is aimed at ensuring that Nigerian local languages are learned with ease so as to prevent the languages from going into extinction, said Adebunmi. . How it works ----------- Unlike Konyin's multilingual computer keyboard which was only available for desktop, Nailangs keyboard is available for download on all platforms such as Google Playstore, the iOS store and Windows (Desktop) for easy access with attached fee of N2,397.04, $9.99, N4000 respectively. . After the download is complete, users can type in the three official Nigerian languages, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, alongside other recognised languages which include Efik, Idoma, Hausa/Fulani, Tiv among others, Adebunmi said. . Nailangs seeks to provide a solution for addressing many who complain that their names are often mutilated as a result of the inadequacy of the already existing computer keyboards. . Beyond the Keyboard ----------------- Adebunmi expressed dissatisfaction at the rate which, in recent times, Nigerians use their dialect as a secondary language instead of their primary language. However, she praised the Urhobo people for their passion to speak and write their dialect hence, the Urhobo language made the list of the 12 languages on the Nailangs keyboard despite not being a part of the more recognised languages. . Adebunmi has established a website that teaches Yoruba language as well as a partnership with some Yoruba afterschool clubs that can teach children the Yoruba language once they return from school, particularly in Lagos. . She hopes this invention will go a long way in re- instituting the pride associated with languages in Nigeria and subsequently become the national keyboard for Nigeria in the nearest future. This third grader is already an accomplished hacker, cybersecurity expert and an app developer. What’s more is the fact that he’s the CEO of his company Prudent Games. Last year at the Ground Zero Summit, Paul delivered his keynote on Children’s Day. This year, he was the youngest attendee at one of the biggest hacker conferences in the world. He’s attending the conference being held at the Ashok Hotel in New Delhi as a ‘special ambassador’ to encourage the kids to learn more about cybersecurity. Quoting his hero Spiderman, Reuben says, “With great hacking skills you get power, and with great power comes great responsibility.” “With all the data breaches, cyberbullying and other kinds of attacks happening on the Internet, it’s important for us to teach kids and educate them on the dangers so they can protect themselves.” Speaking at the conference, chief guest Home Minister Rajnath Singh called the Worldwide Web the fifth dimension of security and maintaining it should be our top priority. Reuben spoke at the conference and mentioned Cyber KungFu, telling about his experiences as the youngest Do KungFu 2nd degree black belt. His company Prudent Games makes games that combine fun with educational content. “Reuben was selected for the Gifted and Talented programme (run by the Texas education system) and had to make a game. The others made boardgames and such like, but Reuben who is passionate about video games, decided to come up with one,” says his mother Sangeetha, an IT professional herself. Prudent Games also made an app that shows children how to come up with secure passwords. His another app tells the basics of Bruteforce attacks used to crack passwords. His father mentions that when he was just five, he used words like firewall and he was totally surprised. “At age five I introduced him to Scratch, and then by six we were looking at real world programing and security concepts,” Mano Paul said. Apart from hacking and app development, Reuben spends time with his friends and takes gymnastics, swimming, and Kung Fu lessons.
