Lagos is the fourth worst city in the world, Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, an independent forecasting and advisory business within the Economist Group has said. And its top worst cities, are scattered around Africa and Asia. Lagos, the fourth on the list, shares its 137 position with Port Moresby, in Papua New Guinea on 38.9 per cent. The report ****e available yesterday described it as the second-fastest growing city in Africa and the fourth worst city on earth. “Rapid growth is not always a good thing because Lagos is now a magnet for two perpetual threats to peace: pirates and Islamist warriors. Boko Haram have a problem with cities like Lagos and also lots of weaponry. Pirates threaten trade and use kidnapping as a method of funding. Islamist terrorist groups such as Boko Haram (“Education is forbidden”) want to create their own version of heaven on earth by destroying cities such as Lagos and imposing strict sharia law. Lagos has enormous potential but as yet little to show for it – hence its poor ranking,” the report said. EIU in its 2013 annual survey of the world’s 140 major metropolises, said Lagos has a long way to go politically, socially and economically before it joins the emerging market club. http://kamalsbase.com/viewmessage.php?id=33&forumid=29 |
During my afternoon class lecture, I watched my lecturer as he scribbled some equations and questions on the white-board and then after much quick solving and talking between him and the white-board, he turned to us behind and then said 'why are you all looking at me as if you don't understand. You all thinks what i'm solving is magic? You think i'm Proffesor Peller (the magician)? I'm not oooo. Afterall this is a simple revision maths we've done before' That statement 'You think i'm Professor Peller (the magician)' kept ringing in my head and I was thinking who he is/was or what his history was like cos that was my first time of hearing the name. Was he a Nigerian or even an African? Source:http://kamalsbase.com/viewmessage.php?id=22&forumid=25 |
Granada attacker Youssef El Arabi hopes that Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo will score another own goal in the upcoming Primera Division encounter between the two sides. The Portugal forward gifted the Andalusians a shock 1-0 win at los Carmenes in February when he beat his own goalkeeper with a stunning header. Unsurprisingly, El Arabi would love to see Ronaldo net again at the wrong end in Monday's match. "I hope that Cristiano Ronaldo scores another own goal," the Morocco international told AS when reminded about last year's encounter. "Real Madrid are a great team and they have a lot of strong..... Founded a century and a half ago, the Bahá’í Faith is today among the fastest-growing of the world’s religions. With more than five million followers, who reside in virtually every nation on earth, it is the second-most widespread faith, surpassing every religion but Christianity in its geographic reach. Bahá’ís reside in more than 100,000 localities around the world, an expansion that reflects their dedication to the ideal of world citizenship. THE BAHÁ’Í FAITH’S global scope is mirrored in the composition of its membership. Representing a cross section of humanity, Bahá’ís come from virtually every nation, ethnic group, culture, profession, and social or economic class. More than 2,100 different ethnic and tribal groups are represented. Since it also forms a single community, free of schism or factions, the Bahá’í Faith comprises what is very likely the most diverse and widespread organized body of people on earth. People of virtually every background, in every nation, have become Bahá’ís. Shown here is a gathering of Bahá’ís from the Cochabamba region in Bolivia. Many are members of the Aymara and Quechua indigenous groups. The Faith’s Founder was Bahá’u’lláh, a Persian nobleman from Tehran who, in the mid-nineteenth century, left a life of princely comfort and security and, in the face of intense persecution and deprivation, brought to humanity a stirring new message of peace and unity. Bahá’u’lláh claimed to be nothing less than a new and independent Messenger from God. His life, work, and influence parallel that of Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Christ, and Muhammad. Bahá’ís view Bahá’u’lláh as the most recent in this succession of divine Messengers. The essential message of Bahá’u’lláh is that of unity. He taught that there is only one God, that there is only one human race, and that all the world’s religions represent stages in the revelation of God’s will and purpose for humanity. In this day, Bahá’u’lláh said, humanity has collectively come of age. As foretold in all of the world’s scriptures, the time has arrived for the uniting of all peoples into a peaceful and integrated global society. “The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens,” He wrote. The youngest of the world’s independent religions, the Faith founded by Bahá’u’lláh stands out from other religions in a number of ways. It has a unique system of global administration, with freely elected governing councils in nearly 10,000 localities. It takes a distinctive approach to contemporary social problems. The Faith’s scriptures and the multifarious activities of its membership address virtually every important trend in the world today, from new thinking about cultural diversity and environmental conservation to the decentralization of decision making; from a renewed commitment to family life and moral values to the call for social and economic justice in a world that is rapidly becoming a global neighborhood. The Faith’s most distinctive accomplishment by far, however, is its unity. Unlike every other religion — not to mention most social and political movements — the Bahá’í community has successfully resisted the perennial impulse to divide into sects and subgroups. It has maintained its unity despite a history as turbulent as that of any religion of antiquity. In the years since Bahá’u’lláh lived, the process of global unification for which He called has become well- advanced. Through historical processes, the traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation have steadily broken down. The forces at work, Bahá’u’lláh predicted, will eventually give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and assist in the creation of this new world. For a global society to flourish, Bahá’u’lláh said, it must be based on certain fundamental principles. They include the elimination of all forms of prejudice; full equality between the sexes; recognition of the essential oneness of the world’s great religions; the elimination of extremes of poverty and wealth; universal education; the harmony of science and religion; a sustainable balance between nature and technology; and the establishment of a world federal system, based on collective security and the oneness of humanity. Bahá’ís around the world express their commitment to these principles chiefly through individual and community transformation, including the large number of small-scale, grassroots-based social and economic development projects that Bahá’í communities have launched in recent years. In building a unified network of local, national, and international governing councils, Bahá’u’lláh’s followers have created a far-flung and diverse worldwide community — marked by a distinctive pattern of life and activity — which offers an encouraging model of cooperation, harmony, and social action. In a world so divided in its loyalties, this is in itself a singular achievement. To learn more about the Bahá’í Faith visit http://www.bahai.org/faq/facts/bahai_faith |
It is no longer news that the talented singer, Chukwudi, a.k.a, “Chuddy K” is no longer signed to SQN record label. What is now news is that the “gaga crazy” crooner,Chuddy K left the label illegally as he still has 18 months left in his present contract with SQN. The scintillating singer last week in an interview said he left the label because of the way he was treated. Addressing newsmen on the recent development in the industry, the SQN boss, Wale Kuku said that there was nothing like treating Chuddy K badly. He said he cares first about the feelings of the artistes under his label. “ No doubt, Chuddy K was a talented singer while with us and he is still talented. But saying that he was treated like a small boy here is what I know never happened. I care most about the feelings of my artistes. As I am talking to you now, his termination of the contract is illegal because, his contract is till December 2014.It is either he comes and completes his contract with us or, he pays all that the label has spent on him,” Wale said. #YarnUs: Hmmm... Following the action(s) of one of Chocolate City Record’s finest acts, Brymo who tweeted recently that he had left the group, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the label, Audu Makori, has refuted the claim, insisting that he’s still with the label. He said this during a press conference held at the label’s Lekki office on Wednesday, May 29 this year. According to him, Brymo is on a three year contract to produce three albums with them so, there’s no way he’s going to leave the label without completing his contract deals. At the moment, Brymo has just one album out in the market. As for what transpired between the label and Brymo, Audu explained that as a lawyer, following the rule of law is his priority, and would like artistes to work within their contract terms too. According to him, it was impossible for Brymo to have decided to quit his contract without following due process. He has to either “play or pay”. But he stressed that there’s no personal war going on between the label and Brymo. Citing himself as an example, M.I who was also on ground, supported Audu saying, loyalty, humility and hard work are qualities expected of an artiste under any record label. According to him, artistes are expected to be loyal to their labels and team, humble and hardworking as that’s what stood M.I out and promoted his career. Further questioning revealed that upon Brymo posting his smoking picture on instagram, Audu had asked him to remove the picture but Brymo refused which amounted to insubordination, a move not good for the brand. In all, Audu stressed that he isn’t interested in painting anyone black but that both parties should sit at a roundtable and talk matters over to their advantage. http://yarnus..com/2013/06/brymo-still-with-chocolate-city-says.html?m=1 |
Osogbo Members of Ogboni Confraternity in Osogbo may have turned Osun Grooves to a battle groung following a serious fracas, which ensued, between two factions of the group. During the fracas, which occurred last week, the Curator and Site Manager of the National Museum, Osogbo, under the National Commission for Museum and Monument Department of the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Olakunle Makinde, was beaten up in the cross fire that ensued between the factions and he was hospitalised. Consequently, staff of the commission, whose office is located inside the Osun Grooves, have deserted the place for almost a week for fear of being attacked like their boss. It was gathered that the fracas started following attempt to appoint new leader of the confraternity in Osogbo, called Are Ogboni. It was alleged that one Okiki was appointed the new Are Ogboni and was supposed to be crowned by the Oluawo, identified as Alhaji Adebisi, but because of the rift between Okiki and Oluawo, Adebisi was by-passed and the World President, known as Alaye, was invited from Imesi-Ile for the installation. Shortly after the installation, the poster of the new Are Ogboni was conspicuously pasted on the Ogboni meeting centre, called Iledi, located inside Osun grooves. It was learnt that some members loyal to Adebisi, the Oluawo, allegedly tore the posters, which resulted into fracas. In the ensued melee, several people were reportedly injured as dangerous weapons were freely used before the intervention of policemen from the Zone 11 of the Nigeria Police. Some personalities were arrested, detained and later released on bail. Efforts of members loyal to Okiki, the new Are Ogboni, to take over the control of Iledi, compounded the crisis, as the two factions lay claim to the centre located inside the grooves. The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, and his traditional chiefs, were said to have intervened in the matter and appealed to the two factions to maintain the law and order, promising to look into the matter. It was also learnt the matter have been officially reported to the Director General, National Museum and Monuments, Yusuf Abdudala Usman, and Director of Heritage Sites and Monuments, Oluremi Adebayo, and security operatives for the protection of lives of staff of the Osogbo National Museum. The Plaintiff, who lives in Sabon-Lugbe on Airport Road, accused her husband, also of the same address, of neglect, selfishness and starving her of sex and food. Maryam said her parents had been sending food to her. She, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage forthwith, to enable her to marry another man who can takecare of her. “My Lord, whenever it is my turnfor the night, my husband would sneak into the bedroom of my second and spend the night there. “He has neglected me, he has become very selfish and no longer gives me food or money for my feeding. “Rather, it is my parents who have been sending me food. I am seeking immediate divorce to enable me to marry a man that can take care of me,’’ she said. The defendant, however, denied his wife’s claims. Mohammed said he could not satisfy his wife’s needs because he had been sick for a long time. “My Lord, I cannot satisfy her needs because of my prolonged illness. Now that I am getting better and I still love her, I urge her to stay and the court should not grant her any divorce,’’ he said.
