Programming / Snapchat Rejected $3 Bn Offer From Facebook by winexviv: 9:10pm On Nov 14, 2013
The mobile messaging service Snapchat recently rejected a $3 billion cash offer from Facebook, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Snapchat, considered one of the up-and-coming applications in social networking, has also had an investment offer led by Chinese Internet giant Tencent, which would value the startup at $4 billion, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources.

Facebook declined to comment on the report.

According to the Journal, Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s 23-year-old co-founder and chief executive, is unlikely to consider an acquisition or an investment at least until early next year.

The daily cited sources saying Spiegel was hoping to boost the number of users and messages to justify a higher valuation.

Snapchat is know for mobile messages and photos that disappear after being viewed by the recipient.

Snapchat did not disclose financial details of an investment round earlier this year, but online reports pegged the figure at $60 million in a deal that values the company at $800 million.

"Long story short, we're committed to building a big company around an innovative and fun product," the Snapchat team said at the time.

Snapchat recently introduced a "SnapKidz" version of its application for Apple mobile devices that lets children younger than 13 years old take or draw pictures, add captions, and save the images but not share them.

The application was designed to stay within the bounds of laws restricting information that can be collected about or from children.

The grown-up version of Snapchat has stirred controversy for its potential to be used to share risque pictures that are automatically deleted within 10 seconds of receipt.

The company said last year it topped 100 million pictures shares.

Facebook last year made a huge purchase of the photo-sharing application Instagram. The stock deal was worth $1 billion at the time of announcement, and at closing $747 million.

Facebook, which has more than a billion users worldwide, has been losing ground among younger consumers, who are among the key Snapchat demographic.

The news comes a week after Twitter raised more than $1.8 billion in an initial public offering. The subsequent jump in share price pushed Twitter's market value to over $20 billion.

Politics / Re: What You Will Love To Know About GEJ by winexviv: 9:13am On Nov 11, 2013
holyvirgin: I agree op, GEJ is one intelligent man, if not for his intelligence he wouldn't have been able to be the president despite the fact that northern leaders never want a southerner to become president. They fought him till they gave up on their own.

Thank you holyvirgin. You are thinking right.
Politics / Re: What You Will Love To Know About GEJ by winexviv: 7:30am On Nov 11, 2013
Love_Decay: Nobody in GEJ's government ever mention's facts, they always speak and make decision's based on assumptions.

Like those three poster up their , assuming - since GEJ has a PHD he is intelligent. He may be a gent but' definitely , he aint got the intel.
He is surely a genius bro. I respect his smartness for taking him to presidency position. If Nigeria eventually change, we will all forget the sad past/mistakes . One of my major aims in this post is to encourage people to stop criticizing him but rather encouraging and praying for him. The world is run by spirits, human beings are just representatives.
Politics / Re: What You Will Love To Know About GEJ by winexviv: 5:37am On Nov 09, 2013
Djtm: Yeah, he is a very smart person. You have to be smart yourself to know that. Many people think he is weak but he isn't, he's just being smart. I also think he is a natural psycologist.
Correct bro. Their is more to that guy than we see on the screen. Being a president alone is enough conviction. The more we truly know, the more we recognise how blind we really are. Criticism kills.
Politics / What You Will Love To Know About GEJ by winexviv: 10:52pm On Nov 08, 2013
It might interest you to know that Goodluck Ebere Jonathan is logically the smartest Nigeria at the moment. Although some might categorize me as being foolish, he really is.
As we all know, many people call him clueless president or other bad names but believe me he is surely smarter and luckier than you really are. Being a president in Nigeria is one of the most difficult goal to achieve in a life time and only the extremely lucky and smart people achieve that in a life time. Now to some people, they will keep asking what is this guys saying sef?
Being truthfull to ourselves, we will know that success or failure in life is never determined by our level of intelligence. All is Grace. Sometimes our inner foolishness deceive us to think that it's because of so many hard works.
If you are a victim of calling GEJ a clueless man or fool, I will advice you better wakeup and face reality. The Holy Bible clearly stated that the more we think we know, that's exactly when we don't even know.
Many 'smart' people have tried contesting for president but end up exhibiting their frustrations in the public media. It's never easy to be a president of a country like Nigeria, so why not respect the smartest guy called Goodluck Ebele Jonathan that succeeded to be the president.
For instance in soccer, FCB might call themselves the best team but Bayern Munich is publicly recognised as the best because they won the champions league.
I will rest my case here. GEJ is a great guy although he might not even know that such an entity like me might exist in his country. He is prone to fraud which most of the people in government do to him. But still he will always improve. Rather than wasting time criticizing this guy, just spend some few minutes, search within your heart, know who you really are, know your life purpose, eliminate psychological defects like pride within, discover happiness within, worship the Supreme God and believe me you will get real happiness within this world and afterlife. Criticism kills

Webmasters / Re: Developing A Sports Betting Site And What It Entails by winexviv: 7:15am On Oct 27, 2013
fitnesswis: still waiting for you guys plsplspls
Bro, running a football betting site is a very huge investment both in cash, people, deep research and time. Hiring an excellent developer or team of web developers that will develop the web application for you will cost you millions (You can see a 10k developer that will use wordpress to fix up anything and you will still fail), and if you can afford that then you need to rent an office space where you will hire a team of staff which entails a web designer, a web developer, a graphics designer, customer support team, a football analyst, a financial manager and an information architect. All these people and more must be employed to enable you run the business. Also you need to have alot of millions in your companies account to be able to pay first 1000 people assuming you lost to all bets. Finally you will have to invest huge on social media marketing, billboard marketing, TV adverts, radio adverts and similar mediums. These are some of my suggestions but you will have to research deeply before you go into the business if eventually you are financially capable. Goodluck

Webmasters / How To Ensure All Clients Pay by winexviv: 9:58am On Oct 23, 2013
I’m going to get straight to the point here, a lot of clients don’t like paying. There are a lot of reasons that could be brought up as to why some are like this, perhaps prior bad experiences with freelancers, but all that matters is they don’t want to pay and will try every seemingly way possible to avoid it.

It’s easy for new freelancers to not get paid fully for their work because the agreement between them and the client is a verbal/email agreement. Agreements like this are built on trust, rather than any real binding documentation on terms and conditions for the collaboration on the project.

So with that being said, make sure EVERY project you take on has terms and conditions to it that are stated in a document and agreed upon by all parties involved. Here are a few things to make sure you always include:

1. upfront payment of a percentage of the quoted price, typically no more than 50%, used as a retainer
2. don’t turn over the project until final payment is made
3. a section going over consequences and possible legal actions that will be taken if payment is not received.

Dual Core: You cannot put a control price on a service rendered with time (its not petrol). No raw materials involved, just time. There is no fixed cost on time. An hour's worth of my time is different from an hour's worth of any other person's time.

Webdesign will likely never have a 'pump price', live with it.

Except you're working for an established firm which has successful products it is supporting or you own a firm like that, don't consider your webdesign/development skills as your only source of income.
If people can do prostitution as a full time job and own houses in V.I, why not the high-demanding web design/development. In every field some earn low while some earn high offering the same service. The difference is mental orientation, packaging and luck. If you say web design don't have a pump price, why do people charge a min of 5k for a job in Nigeria. They could have been 1k design job. If we can change this poor mentality and encourage people to improve on their skills continuously, with time most people will make web design their full job and earn very huge.

Webmasters / It’s Not Enough To Be A Good Web Designer Anymore! by winexviv: 12:05pm On Oct 22, 2013
Many people don’t realize that times have changed. Today, in this global economy, you are not competing for jobs against web designers from your hometown, you are competing for jobs against web designers from all over the world. There will always be people who are more skilled than you or who are able to charge lower prices than you (or both). You have to be able to bring something more than web design skills or low prices to the table if you want to get the job. What can you do to stand out from the crowd?

One of the best competitive advantages that you can have as a web designer is an in-depth knowledge of online marketing. It’s safe to say that most people who hire web designers are running some sort of a business and believe me, they are tired of dealing with web designers who don’t understand the basic concepts of online marketing, because it just makes everything so much harder. Sure, entrepreneurs want websites that look good, but, more importantly, they want websites that convert, and if you can build websites that are both beautiful and convert well, entrepreneurs will be more than happy to hire you. That’s why becoming savvy in online marketing might be one of the best moves that you can make in your web design career.

Remember, if you want to be a successful freelance web designer, you have to understand that it’s not about you, it’s about the client. Talk to clients and understand the problems they have, come up with the solutions for them and learn to explain the benefits that they will get in a language they understand. This is what will allow you to get more clients, get better clients, and charge higher rates. The sooner you shift your mindset from “I, I, I,” to “client, client, client”, the better.

To us, design/develop a website is a simple task and it can feel terrible to charge a higher markup. However, to a dentist, his job is relatively easy yet he’s still making a healthy profit. That’s why we have so many different professions. If your client was to design his website, he’d have to pay more and wait longer in the long run.
Webmasters / Web Designers/developers Stop Charging Below 50k For Any Project. by winexviv: 9:48am On Oct 22, 2013
More designers/developers should stand up to low rates and not accept them. The more you accept low rates, the more that you will continue to receive low rates so why not help the industry out and raise the standards rather than be part of the problem? Thinking outside the box is also good.

The time = money model isn’t very scalable, so thinking more entrepreneurial in regards to solving problems and offering a product could be more rewarding in the long run. The annoying part is that the low paying clients are the wahala we have in this business. If we continue charging low when will we produce a billionaire in Nigeria that only build websites? Let's meditate on this and i will be putting up posts that will release 5k/10k-49k designers/developers from their bondage.

Webmasters / What Is A Good Way To Plan A Web Project Before Coding? by winexviv: 7:15pm On Oct 21, 2013
I know coding to a great extent, and I'm looking forward to be a billionaire soon by doing a big project (personal). My biggest problem right now is I'm not really sure how to plan a web project out before even starting on the coding. I do it well when i work for clients but now it's my own, confusion has set in. I've read a lot of things saying that you should use pseudocode, diagrams, flowcharts etc. But, I want to know is there really a proper way on how to do this? I'm worried that I'll start coding and then I realize that I shouldn't have done something and have to rewrite tons of code. People say that if you plan a web project well then you shouldn't have any major moments like that. Any advice or information on planning a web project?

Webmasters / Re: What To Look For Before Hiring A Web Development Firm for Your Next Big Project. by winexviv: 10:18am On Oct 10, 2013
7. How do they ensure your project is executed properly?

From following coding standards to employing an in-house team of professionals, be sure any assurances you are given are put in writing.

i. Do their agreements stipulate that coding will be done according to industry standards, and that the work is customized for your needs?
ii. Do you own the work produced, and have access to it, or is there a licensing fee?
iii. Do they plan your website in accordance with your business goals?

8. How big is the company and what is their structure?

If the team is too small, you may run the risk of delays, lack of available expertise, or even company closures. If the team is too large, you may run the risk of getting lost in a bureaucratic system, and lack of personal service or care for your project. No matter what size company you decide to work with, it's important that you feel comfortable throughout the process.

i. What is their methodology for website planning and execution? Is it right for your project?
ii. Do they have a 'Go To' person that holds your hand and takes accountability for the success of your project?
iii. Do you feel confident that the company has the stability to continue providing your business with the same level of website service, for edits, maintenance, and future phases of growth?

9. How do they staff individual projects?

Building a successful website takes a skilled project manager, a professional team, and concrete objectives. A proper team consists of information architects to plan the site, web designers to design the user interface, web developers to code the site, quality assurance engineers to test it, and online marketing specialists to develop and implement an efficient online marketing strategy. This team should work under an experienced project manager to ensure a successful outcome.

i. How many team members will be working on your project?
ii. Who takes accountability for your project?
iii. How often will they send you updates and what is the communication process?
iv. Are they pro-active in leading a project or do they count on you, the client, to direct them?

10. Who owns the company? Is it financially stable?

You want to give your project and the future of your company's image to a stable company that will be around well beyond your website's beta launch. Compare apples to apples. Don't compare a reputable company's prices to a guy working out of a tiny office with a 'team' halfway around the world.

i. Who owns the company, and who are its key officers?
ii. What motivation does the team have to put best efforts into your project?
iii. What is their financial strength? How long can they survive without any new projects or if something goes wrong?

Goodluck with your next BIG project.
Webmasters / Re: What To Look For Before Hiring A Web Development Firm for Your Next Big Project. by winexviv: 10:00am On Oct 10, 2013
2. What is their track record?

A more important question than 'how much is this going to cost?' is 'how reliable is your company?' You should be confident that you can trust the team in producing the best results for your project and that they are able to show you a return on your investment.

i. What types of clients have they worked with?
ii. What kind of results have they delivered for those clients?
iii. Do they have hard figures to prove their results?
iv. Do they retain their clients and have ongoing working relationships with them?

3. How do they measure their results?

A website is a marketing tool that should be used to generate more business and increase brand loyalty. A professional company should address the bottom line: how did they increase the market value of their clients?

i. Do they measure results in terms of lower bounce rates, higher repeat traffic, conversions (i.e. sales, memberships, etc,) and Page One Google rankings for multiple keywords?
ii. Are their results published and verified by their clients?

4. What are their core services?

A company that has the capability to handle your entire project, from planning, to design, to development and marketing success is better qualified to do things right from the start.

i. Do they have the ability to provide comprehensive web design, development and marketing services to industry standards?
ii. Have they done system integrations or customized web projects that require excellent problem solving skills or advanced coding capabilities?
iii. Do they have experience developing mobile applications?
iv. Do they have search engine optimization expertise and a proven track-record of achieving Page One Google results?

5. What are their credentials or qualifications?

You want to be sure that the company you are entrusting your business to are respected professionals in their industry.

i. Are they authorized to work for government agencies? Do they have other special credentials showing other expertise?
ii. Have they developed any special applications or done groundbreaking projects.

6. What does their operation look like?

Before getting into a relationship with a company, make sure you go visit their operation and see the people face to face who will be responsible for the success of your project.

i. Are they fully staffed with professionals or do they rely on freelancers or outsourcing for the heavy lifting?
ii. Do you get the sense from talking to staff members that they are skilled, passionate and trustworthy? Simply put, do you get a good vibe?
iii. Do they have the type of operation that you would entrust your business to?
Webmasters / What To Look For Before Hiring A Web Development Firm for Your Next Big Project. by winexviv: 9:56am On Oct 10, 2013
This post will save you heartache and money. Your website can and should be one of the main drivers of leads for your business. Before you hire a web development firm, there are some things you should know to ask.
The majority of buyers go online to research their purchase decisions and your website needs to accomplish many things: It should align with your business strategy; be findable via keywords and via the content you publish; and gain and nurture trust to convert those visitors to a paying customer.
Hiring a web development firm is a therefore a pretty big decision and I see too many businesses outsourcing the project in a silo-ed fashion to a web development firm who doesn’t have a clear understanding of the role the site needs to play in the bigger picture.
As in any industry, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The problem is, you don’t know if you’re dealing with the good and the bad. Just like when I take my car in to get fixed, you could sell me a whole package of BS and I’d buy it, because I haven’t a clue.
If your web development firm isn’t asking you the right questions and if you, in turn, aren’t asking the right questions, you might end up with someone who will do a nice enough job, leaving you with a website that is far short of your potential and you don’t even know.
It’s critical to approach your web project strategically with the next few years in mind otherwise you end up needing to start over, or make expensive changes down the road;
Heartache and money.
I say “a few years” because technology is changing so rapidly, we really can’t think beyond a few years at a time when it comes to actual tools.

1. How do they price their services?

You're buying a professional service, where a team of experts should be putting in time to plan, design, develop and manage your project.

i. Which of their team members will be working on your project and what are their qualifications?
ii. How much time will they be spending on your project?
iii. Do they provide a flat project price that corresponds to a detailed agreement?
iv. Does the cost of the project match up with the agreed upon deliverables and hourly rates?
v. Is there a clear procedure for billing for extra features or work outside the project's initial scope?
Webmasters / Re: Frustration! Developing Opensource Applications In Nigeria!! by winexviv: 9:43am On Oct 10, 2013
Great Job bro. But how do you expect people to appreciate what they haven't seen? I read about your framework since 2009 and up till now you are still planning to release it. : grin . Currently we have hundreds of php frameworks on the web and all offer full support. I will advice you get ready before you release anything. As John Resig (Founder of jQuery) rightly said "He spent countless hours on the web offering support to jQuery newbies at the unset before other people were able to take over."

Don't even depend on Nigeria developers because most of the gurus are over booked with jobs and so they might not even have time offering support to your framework for FREE. In abroad their is serious competition and that's why gurus are everywhere to offer support. Think again and Goodluck.

Politics / A Must Read Poem For Politicians Worldwide!! by winexviv: 10:39pm On Oct 04, 2013
O men, fear the Lord!
For one day you shall stand before His throne,
To give account of
All the things that you will have done on earth.

1. You great men, rulers of this world,
You whose bodies are healthy, fat and strong,
Your pride is round you like a chain;
Wickedness covers you like a garment.

2. You always pervert equity,
And you cast down righteousness to the earth!
You rob the people of their right,
You turn aside the needy from justice.

3. You come together secretly
And say, let us lurk for the innocent;
You swallow them alive like Sheol,
And you take hold of their valuable goods.

4. You hypocrites, you cause great wars,
And you all pretend to be peacemakers;
You cause division and you rule,
You destroy those who were living in peace.

5. Although you are living as gods,
You will all die like common animals,
Hell fire will not take into
Account the great title you had on earth.

6. For a fleeting little power,
You all choose to sign great pacts with satan;
And for a few banknotes, you cause
Thousands of innocent people to die.

7. Know that all the pacts that you sign
With satan will be of no use to you.
All the human sacrifices
That you make will surely lead you to hell.

8. In broad daylight you are well dressed up
In suits, jackets and ties; but at night time
On the request of sorcerers
You all stroll, naked on the streets’ corners!

9. O you brutish! Are you not veiled,
All around you people die every day.
None of them has ever taken
A thing. They all return just as they came.

10. Know that the gods that have not made
The heavens and the earth shall all perish.
Let me remind you that, even
If you cling to power, your end will come.

11. For a useless post of honour,
Homosexuality, satanic sects
Become your daily practices:
You choose hell instead of the Living God.

12. You foolish, know that hell is real,
And it will last for all eternity;
Therefore, if you do not repent,
You will certainly not escape from it.

You are new to the business and you want all these for free while you get paid? mbanu . I will suggest you either sub-contract the job to a more experienced designer and get a perfect result which will in-turn help you get bigger jobs or purchasing a premium template online. If that will be expensive, then you pay someone to assist you in getting a professional template. Don't be stingy my brother, it kills at the end.
