Politics / Between The President And The Governor, Who Is Your Real Enemy? by Wisdom58(f): 9:25am On May 26, 2019
Between the President and the Governor, who is your Real Enemy? Abrogation of State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and granting of Financial Autonomy to all Nigerian Local Governments is the highest achievement of Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration. Therefore, this is time to recall all Ebonyi State National Legislators from our two chambers in Abuja for being guilty of vote against local government autonomy.

It is about time the stranglehold of the state governors on the SIEC and in the conduct of local government elections comes to shameful end. I agree that Buhari’s abrogation of SIEC and State/local government joint account would satisfy our yearnings for pure local and grassroot democracy.

I also commend the majority of National Assembly members and her leadership for voting in favour of abrogation of SIEC and financial autonomy of local government. Well meaning Nigerians should exert pressure on our state rubber stamp legislators to do the needful, by voting in concurrence with Federal Law-Makers whenever they consider the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Do remember gathering of the perfidy that Edo State under her former Governor Mr. Adams Oshiomhole committed years back. In Esan North Local Government election when the result, which was supposed to be announced in Benin, while collation was still going on in Uromi, results were being announced in Benin.

Local Government Autonomy will bolster accountable grassroots development and stimulate local administration, but above all give loud voice to our youths who have been watching from the sideline for a long time while the Governors continued to wound our Commonwealth without proper checks.

Within 16 years of PDP in power through election malpractices, flourishing National Assets established by our founding Fathers, including NITEL, Aladja Steel, Ajaokuta Steel, Iwopin Paper Mill, Bacita Sugar Company, to mention a few, were sold off by Prodigal Administrations of OBJ and GEJ. And as at today, most pensioners of these companies were never paid a dime.

Finally, we should understand that restructuring just started with SIEC. Again, the President can not achieve this without a brutal fight with the Governors, especially PDP governors, but I am convinced that the whole Nigerians excluding few criminals will fight alongside with Mr President.

Four people, including a 15-year-old girl, have been found hidden inside vehicles attempting to leave Morocco, the Civil Guard has said.

Three vehicles were stopped at customs in Beni-Enzar in a space of just three hours, between 9am and 12pm.Inside the cars, officials found the teenage girl and two other men, believed to be 20 and 21 years old.

One of them was hidden behind the rear seats and the other two were in the dashboard. Two of the three had to be stabilised by medics after showing symptoms of asphyxia, disorientation and generalised pain in the joints due to the way in which they had been travelling.

They were discovered in Beni-Enzar and Melilla (Picture: Guardia Civil)A fourth truck was then searched in the Spanish port of Melilla, and officials found a 20-year-old man in the base of the vehicle.

He had to be helped out of the truck due to the dangerous nature of his hiding place. It was believed that the man had ‘taken advantage’ of the driver’s carelessness to get into the spot.

The Civil Guard said the drivers of the intercepted cars, all of Moroccan registration, have now been detained and will go to court.

Three of the vehicles were stopped wThey are described as being all male, of Moroccan nationality, aged 19, 30 and 31.None of them have ties to the city of Melilla.

Politics / Nigeria Is Future Of Whole World, Mankind, Says German Envoy by Wisdom58(f): 3:43pm On May 24, 2019
“Nigeria is the future of not just Africa but of the whole world and mankind” German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Bernhard Schlagheck has said.
Schlagheck said this when he received the delegation of “Follow the Money and Connected Development (CODE)” an NGO, in his office on Friday in Abuja. He said that Germany and Nigeria shared similarities in diverse areas, adding that Nigerians could contribute towards growth of their country through tracking governance processes to ensure accountability. Schlagheck said, “there are developments in every society that must be tracked. To achieve that, there is need for distinction of people to do such. “Nigeria as the future of Africa is the future of the world, of mankind that we can ask many important questions and of course this is also applicable in places like Germany, in Europe. “Although there are obstacles in development processes, Nigerians should strive to focus on cross fertilisation of good ideas to bring about meaningful growth in future.” He commended the delegation for their effort in tracking expenditure of public funds to promote accountability and transparency in governance process in the country. According to him, “this is something that can change things positively. I am quite happy to see many young activists willing to do so.” Earlier, Mr. Hamzat Lawal, Founder, Follow the Money and Chief Executive Officer of CODE, said that they were at the German Embassy to appreciate Schlagheck for his support to the organisation. He noted that the support by Schlagheck had helped young people learn best practices on modern methods to track public fund spending.

Sports / Messi Vs Mbappe: European Golden Shoe To Be Decided Today by Wisdom58(f): 2:48pm On May 24, 2019
The European Golden Shoe will be decided on Friday night in a one-off game when Stade Reims host Paris Saint-Germain.

Kylian Mbappe will be the centre of attention as he attempts to take the prize away from the boots of Lionel Messi, who plays Valencia in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

Mbappe has 90 minutes to try and stop the Argentine winning his third European Golden Shoe in a row, the sixth of his career.

Messi remains the favourite. He scored 36 league goals for Barça this season, which equates to 72 points in the Golden Shoe race.

NEEDS TO GO BIG

The only person who can still realistically catch him is Mbappe. The French striker needs to go big, though. He must score four goals to share the trophy with Messi or five to beat him.

Mbappe scored four goals already this season in the win over Lyon. So far this season, he has 32 goals (64 points) iin Ligue 1 having played just 28 games due to two suspensions.

Some think that, as he's played fewer games, Mbappe should be closer to Messi. He has 1.14 goals per game and the Argentine has 1.05. But the Golden Shoe has never been about goals per game.

Following Messi and Mbappe are: Quagliarella (Sampdoria) with 26 goals (52 points) and Lewandowski (Bayern), Aubameyang (Arsenal) and Salah and Mané (both Liverpool) with 22 goals (44 points).

Sports / Who Is The Best No.7 In Football World? by Wisdom58(f): 10:26am On May 24, 2019
There have truly been some iconic number 7’s who have graced our sport.

Manchester United has a whole list of players who donned the number 7 jersey and went on to achieve great things, while their bitter rivals Liverpool have also had some legendary number 7s.In football, if we consider the traditional 4-4-2 formation, the number 7 jersey is usually donned by the winger or the supporting forward thus making him one of the most important players on the pitch.

Choosing the best 7 out of a long list of iconic number 7’s is no easy task, but we have picked the seven best players and there are some truly amazing footballers on this listNote:

#7 Robert Pires

Arsenal legend Robert Pires was one of the most crucial members of the Arsenal side which went unbeaten throughout the entire system in 2003/04. The Frenchman has enjoyed a long career full of trophies at both the domestic and international level.

Pires earned 79 caps for his country during which he won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 Euros followed by a COnfedaration Cup triumph in 2001 where he was the player of the tournament. Despite all his achievements with the national team, Pires is best remembered for his time at Arsenal.

The French winger spent time from 2000-2006 with the Gunners winning three FA Cups and two Premier Leagues along with a Champions League final appearance. Pires was one of the key architects in Arsenal’s stunning 2003/04 season.

The Arsenal legend finished that season with an impressive tally of 14 goals and seven assists in the Premier League. He was Arsenal's second top scorer (behind Thierry Henry) and had the joint amount of assists (along with Dennis Bergkamp) that season.

The impact Pires had at Arsenal in just 6 years can be seen from the fact that he was voted as the 6th greatest player in Arsenal’s history.

#6 Eric Cantona

One of the most charismatic and controversial footballers to play the game, Eric Cantona was a supremely gifted and talented footballer. Another legendary number 7 to play for Manchester United, the Frenchman is considered to have played a vital role in the revival of Manchester United’s fortunes.

Cantona walked about on the football pitch with a natural swagger and he is famous for wearing the number 7 shirt with his trademark upturned collar. The Frenchman had something of a cult status at Manchester United with fans affectionately calling him “King Eric.”

On 25 January 1995, Cantona got into what is now known as the “kung-fu” incident when he kicked and punched a fan in the crowd for abusing him. At a press conference called later, Cantona gave perhaps his most famous quote saying:

“When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much”

United fans will always remember Cantona for his stunning performances on the pitch. The Frenchman scored a total of 64 league goals for Manchester United, 11 in domestic cup competitions, and 5 in the Champions League, bringing his tally to 80 goals in less than five years.

#5 Luis Figo

Luis Figo is the most capped player of Portugal having made 127 appearances for the national team in a long and distinguished career. Renowned for his creativity and having the ability to get past defenders, Figo is regarded as one of the greatest wingers of his generation.

The Portuguese superstar’s creativity can be seen by the fact that he is second on the list for the most assists in La Liga, only behind Lionel Messi. At his physical peak, Figo was a quick, elegant, highly skilful player with a dribbling ability that allowed him to frequently take on and beat defenders in one on one situations.

Capable of delivering pin-point set pieces, Figo also scored some crucial goals due to his powerful striking ability from distance and his accurate free-kicks.

One of the greatest Portuguese players of all time and a winger who truly epitomised the number 7 role, Figo was one of the best number 7s to ever grace the game.

#4 George Best

Charismatic and supremely talented, George Best was the first in a long line of truly great number 7s to play for Manchester United. United fans were so enamoured by the stunning displays he put in that banners of ‘Maradona Good, Pele Better, George Best’ became common.

Best mainly played as a winger and he sometimes played in the attacking midfielder role. He was at the peak of his game from 1966-1972. In 1968 he won the European Cup with Manchester United and was named the European Footballer Of The Year and FWA Footballer Of The Year.

The Irish football association described him as the "greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland"

Best’ standing in the game was seen when even the legendary Pele called him the greatest footballer.

Pele once said “George Best was the greatest player in the world". Best was once quoted as saying, “Pelé called me the greatest footballer in the world. That is the ultimate salute to my life.”

George Best was one of the first true superstars of modern football.

#3 Kenny Dalglish

Scottish footballer and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was an integral part of the all-conquering Liverpool sides in the late 1970s and 1980s. Dalglish took over the number 7 jersey from another great player, Kevin Keegan and he went on to achieve even greater things than his predecessor.

He won six Football League First Divisions, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three European Cups and one UEFA Super Cup. For these achievements and his style of play he was given the name King Kenny by Liverpool supporters.

Dalglish usually played as a right-sided forward or a supporting striker creating and scoring crucial goals for Liverpool. In 1983, the Scotsman came second in the Ballon d’Or voting lists for his amazing performances in that season.

Dalglish’s contributions to Liverpool were so popular that even as late as in 2006, he topped a Liverpool fans' poll of "100 Players Who Shook the Kop."

King Kenny is truly the best number 7 and the greatest player ever to play for Liverpool.

#2 Garrincha

Winner of two World Cups and considered to be one of the most talented players ever, Garrincha was an iconic number 7 for both Brazil and his club side Botafogo.

Widely regarded as the best dribbler in the history of football, Garrincha mainly played as a right winger. In the 1962 World Cup, Garrincha in the absence of Pele led Brazil to glory and he was the best player in the tournament receiving the World Cup Golden Ball for player of the tournament, the Golden Boot as leading goalscorer, and was named in the World Cup All-Star Team.

Adored by the Brazilian public due to his innocence, carefree attitude and ability to entertain in making fools of opposing players, Garrincha was referred to as "Joy of the People". He is one of the few players to have scored direct from a corner, a feat he managed to do 4 times in his career.

Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he was voted into the World Team of the 20th century, came seventh in the FIFA Player Of The Century grand jury vote, and was named in the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team.

Some people in Brazil considered Garrincha to be an even better player than the legendary Pele.

#1 Cristiano Ronaldo

One of the two stand out footballers of this generation along with Lionel Messi, Ronaldo is one of the greatest players ever to play the beautiful game. Ronaldo’s goal scoring exploits have been mind boggling considering the fact that he plays as a winger on most occasions.

The Portuguese superstar first captured the world’s attention at Manchester United, putting in some stunning performances, leaving defenders flat-footed with his dazzling skills. After his move to Real Madrid, Ronaldo took his game to a whole new level becoming one of the best goalscorers ever to play the game. Ronaldo continues to continue world-class performance in Juventus.

Having a burning desire to be the best, Ronaldo has worked hard to hone his undoubtedly prodigious talent. Ronaldo is capable of scoring all types of goals be it stunning long-range efforts, free kicks, simple tap-ins or even powerful headers.

Among the top footballers to have ever played, Ronaldo takes the top spot and is the best number 7 to have played in the history of football.

Sports / Who Is The Best No.10 In Football World? by Wisdom58(f): 10:10am On May 24, 2019
Modern football, if you believe everything you read, has become a results business. However, for fans, we still turn up or tune in to the beautiful game to be entertained.
For that to happen, we want to see players that capture our imagination, get us off our feet and work magic with their feet. For that, we entrust the ball with the playmakers, the No.10s, the trequartistas.
As with any Top 10, there are also players that miss out, any of which could have made the same list on another day, or with enough of an argument.
Pelé is still regarded as one of the best players to grace the game – in many eyes the best. But despite his tendency to drop back and start moves, we felt he wasn't quite the type of player we were looking for as he more often than not played as a central forward. But it was not a decision which was taken lightly.
Roberto Baggio, 'the Divine Ponytail', caught the eye at the 1990 World Cup and Enzo Francescoli, 'The Elegant Prince', was also one of the best players of his generation, but both miss out.
Kaka, Gheorghe Hagi, Francesco Totti, Preben Elkjær, Ruud Gullit…they would all have made some fans' lists. But here is Football Whispers' Best Number 10s in the World, ever.
10. Dennis Bergkamp
Painting pictures with his right foot, Dennis Bergkamp was to football as Vincent van Gogh was to art. Technically, not many players, either before or after him have been able to match up. From his sublime control against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup to the almost identical move at Filbert Street against Leicester City, he could beat you with skill, guile and a killer eye for a pass.
At Arsenal, Ian Wright and Thierry Henry benefited from the Dutchman's unselfishness. Bergkamp finished with 94 assists in the Premier League. Only Frank Lampard and Ryan Giggs managed more – but they played for a much longer period of time.
Coming through the Ajax academy, he had a difficult spell at Inter Milan before Bruce Rioch pounced. His 11-year spell at Arsenal, as well as creating countless chances for his team, he also found the back of the net 100 times himself – none better than Bergkamp's gravity-defying goal against Newcastle United.

9. Zinedine Zidane
Most images of Zinedine Zidane that spring to mind come in the iconic blue shirts of France, especially that career defining World Cup in 1998. However, before his two headed goals in the final, Zizou, had not made a telling impact. A red card in the group stage showed a glimpse of his dark side, only to leap into life at the Stade de France.
One of his best performances for Les Bleus came much later. Playing against Spain and Brazil in 2006, it was the 34-year-old that turned back the clock and handed two of the game's powerhouses and lesson in football mastery.
A legend for every club he played for, he took both Juventus and Real Madrid to another level when he joined. No one will ever forget his stunning volley against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League final in Glasgow. and there can be no denying he was a true Galactico.
8. Michael Laudrup
Not only was Michael Laudrup part of Johan Cruyff's Barcelona 'Dream Team', the Dane was the key playmaker, so you know he must be world class. Denmark's greatest ever player, one of the best foreigner stars ever to play in Spain and part of Real Madrid's greatest foreign XIs, not many players successfully cross the divide like Laudrup did.
Raul, Anders Iniesta and Pep Guardiola all described him as the best player of all-time, with Romario, Hristo Stoichkov and Luis Figo all naming his as the greatest player they played with or against.
Blessed with pace, Laudrup was as skilful as he was elegant. So versatile was his ability on the ball, he could play almost anywhere in the attack of midfield. As good a passer as Michel Platini, but with technique to challenge Bergkamp, the Dane had it all. Incredible balance, vision and close ball control, his only criticism of himself was a lack of selfishness aiding to him scoring too few goals.

7. Ronaldinho
Just as Real Madrid were signing David Beckham for his marketability, Barcelona were putting their chips on Paris Saint-Germain's Ronaldinho. The smiling Brazilian didn't disappoint.
Ronnie was the bridge between a team in transition and the juggernaut Spanish power club we have today. Dazzling footwork, moving the ball in ways that before seemed physically impossible, he was that well regarded the Brazilian managed to destroy Real Madrid so badly at the Santiago Bernabeu that Los Blancos fans could only stand and applaud the Barcelona man.
For all the flair, many forget the sublime vision to pick out a team-mate, even pulling off no-look passes at will. Before you had worked out what Ronaldinho was about to do, he'd done it and was conjuring up something else.
Multiple Player of the Year awards, two La Liga titles and the 2005/06 Champions League, had he managed to sustain his performances for a longer period of time then he would surely have been even higher up this list.
But while his multitude of tricks and flicks may fade as time goes on, his smile will always remain.

6. Zico
Zico was a player with amazing technique, vision, an unmatchable passing range, plus the ability to finish.
Pelé once said: “throughout the years, the one player who came closest to me was Zico,” handing the former Flamengo man the nickname 'white Pele'.
He played more than 800 times for the Brazilian club, scoring 539 goals, but known as one of the best passers of the ball, he is arguably one of the greatest players to play in the 1970s and early 80s.
His record will be tainted slightly due to not winning any of the three World Cups he played in around a period where Brazil were dominant, meaning in some eyes it's hard to measure up to some of the other Samba legends.
Let that take nothing away from his ability to bend and manipulate the ball with both feet though. A dead-ball specialist, he was Beckham before you could get paid for wearing fancy pants.

5. Michel Platini
FIFA named the Frenchman the sixth greatest player of all-time in their Player of the Century vote and it's hard to argue with the three-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Michel Platini was exceptional with the ball at his feet, he was easily one of the best passers of his generation. Another dead ball specialist, he was deadly from distance and cool from the penalty spot. Deceptively quick, able to play anywhere in the attack, he was another playmaker that also seemed a step ahead of the opposition.
Not blessed physically, he never looked like an athletic or gifted athlete, but despite concerns over his fitness and work-rate, put the ball at his feet and he would find a way to beat you.
Le Roi would get the better of you in the air or on the ground, take apart your defence with a killer pass or a silky dribble, there was nothing he couldn't do. A hero as a player, winning the 1984 European Championships with France, his off-the-field career hasn't been able to match that success.
4. Johan Cruyff
The creator of his own move, the father of total football, an influencer of the game like we will never see again. A legend for both Barcelona and Ajax, Johan Cruyff was a genius. The Dutchman, who did some of his best work out wide, would drift into all different areas of the pitch, finding space the defence didn't even know was there.
Pushing and pulling his markers from wide areas, back to his own penalty area, he was a nightmare to mark and a joy to behold. Perhaps the most creative player of not only his generation, but of anyone to play the game.
Cruyff had it all: technique, speed, great acceleration, vision to pick a pass and the skill to beat his man when nothing was on. A tactical brain that has probably still to be matched, he saw things both on and off the pitch that players can still only dream about replicating.

3. Alfredo Di Stefano
A legend and pioneer before his time, Alfredo Di Stefano was perhaps the original support striker. Named by Pele, Eusebio and John Charles as the most complete player they ever saw, his 376 goals in 522 games give him a much-deserved mention as one of football's best number forwards, but it was his ability to drop off the front-man and become a creative force that made him stand out.
Real Madrid class him as their greatest ever player and his partnership with Ferenc Puskas handed Los Blancos unparralled success at the time – winning five European Cups. The Argentine-born, Spanish international won two Ballon d'Ors and eight Spanish league titles and is one of the best players to ever kick a ball.

2. Diego Maradona
Your views on Diego Maradona depend on your age and your nationality. The pantomime villain in England, his performance against the Three Lions make him a cult hero in his home town of Buenos Aires.
His stocky build and bullish frame made him a nightmare to stop when he picked up a run of speed. Blessed with a low centre of gravity, he could twist and turn beyond multiple players in the blink of an eye.
Seemingly winning the 1986 World Cup on his own, you almost felt like he could have achieved that feet taking on the opposition himself. His greatest attributes were his dribbling, magnetic close control and that burst of acceleration that seemed almost superhuman.
A legend for Barcelona, Boca Juniors and Napoli, he must go down as one of the greatest ever footballers, not just No.10s.

1. Lionel Messi
Not many would put this little Argentine wizard above the great Diego, but sometimes we are blinded by nostalgia and the great players of the past.
In 20 to 30 years' time, no one will blink an eye-lid at naming Lionel Messi as the greatest creative attacking player ever.
Messi has re-written the Barcelona record books, astonishing when you consider all the players that have come before him, becoming the club's all-time top scorer when he was just 24.

What's even more impressive, he also holds the record for the most assists in La Liga history. While he will always find a way to score, he won't do so at the behest of his team.

Even his transition into a 'False 9' would see him drop back, pick up the ball and begin a large majority of Barcelona's attacks
