Sports / AFCON 2019: CAF Takes Final Decision On Use Of VAR by Wisdom58(f): 6:27pm On Jun 21, 2019
The Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will make its debut in this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed.

However, the latest technology in refereeing will be applied from the quarter-final games.

“We’ve taken all measures and tested offline for a backup to the VAR. The referees are concentrating to make everything possible for the system to be implemented successfully.

“We took the risk and until now it worked very well until we have some difficulties and we assure they will not be repeated,” CAF’s Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe said on Friday.

The VAR has previously been used in the CAF Interblubs finals, after its successful implementation during the CAF Super Cup in 2018 between Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo) in Casablanca.

Politics / Jigawa Electoral Commission Bars PDP From LG Election, Gives Reason by Wisdom58(f): 3:51pm On Jun 21, 2019
The Jigawa state Independent Election Commission, JISIEC, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will not participate in the forthcoming local government election slated to hold on the 29th of June 2019, as a result of the failure of its members to purchase election forms.

JISIEC chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad, through the commission’s Public Relations Officer, stated this while speaking on the alleged refusal by the commission to sell forms to the major opposition party in the state, PDP.

He explained that PDP were denied the forms due to their lateness in purchasing nomination and expression of interest forms‎, up to the closing date.

“When the date for the conduct of election was fixed by the commission, time table was sent to all parties about the date for the commencement of sale of forms and closing date but PDP didn’t even indicate interest to participate in the election until we closed the selling of the forms,” he stated.

Ahmad insisted that all political parties were carried along in the entire electioneering processes and have no right to claim that they were sidelined.

Reacting, the PDP North Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Jahun said the state election body, JISIEC prevented his party from fielding candidates for the forthcoming local government election by refusing to sell nomination forms to their candidates.

He stated that the PDP had asked the commission for a waiver for their lateness because the officials of the party were all at Abuja for a court case but was denied the opportunity.

According to Jahun, “We are fully prepared for the polls in spite that ‎the commission has withheld our N64 million that we paid against the last two years local government polls that we were denied.”

He added that the PDP had “at that time instituted a court action against the JISIEC for breaching the law by recognising a faction of Ali Modu Sheriff as the legitimate leadership aside the N64 million we paid for nomination forms for all the 27 council chairmen and councillors”.

Jahun however disclosed that the state National Working Committee (NWC) ‎will hold a crucial meeting on Monday to decide on the court action to be taken against the commission.

Family / My Husband Invites Flies To Destroy My Soya Milk Business – Woman Tells Court by Wisdom58(f): 3:45pm On Jun 21, 2019
An Akure Grade A Customary Court has dissolved a 22-year-old marriage between Mrs. Biola Jimoh, 42 and Mr. Wasiu Jimoh, 48.

The petitioner, Biola, who accused her estranged husband of always beating her over trivial issues, added that he allegedly bewitched her Soya milk business by inviting flies, which according to her prevents customers from patronising her

Biola, who urged the court to dissolve the union, stated that she could no longer continue with the marriage as she also alleged ill treatment, cruelty and lack of affection from her husband.

She, however, prayed the court to grant her custody of the three children produced from the union.

The respondent, Mr. Wasiu Jimoh, admitted the claim that he drinks, but he said not to stupor and denied the petitioner’s claim of bewitching her business.

According to him, the petitioner became a nagging and quarrelsome wife shortly after he converted into Christianity from Islam while she also denied him of her marital obligation.

In his judgement, Akinleye Akinseye held that “it is obvious that the marriage has failed and broken down irretrievably, since both parties have accepted to go their separate ways.”

The court granted custody of the second and third children: Sukura Jimoh, 14 and Naufisat Jimoh 7 to the petitioner, exempting the first child, who is 20 years old.

Akinleye, therefore, dissolved the marriage and ordered the respondent to pay N10,000 monthly allowance to the court registry for the upkeep of the children.

Politics / Prof Nwagbara Sacked, Arrested For Condemning Ghana Treatment Of Nigerians [VID] by Wisdom58(f): 8:27am On Jun 20, 2019
The University of Education Winneba, UEW, on Wednesday, sacked visiting Nigerian Professor to Ghana, Professor Austin Nwagbara.

Nwagbara was earlier arrested and interrogated by Ghana Police Service. It is not clear whether he is still in detention.

Nwagbara, in a trending video, is seen

lambasting Ghana for how authorities treat Nigerians and urged his colleagues to employ the Nigerian media to take up the fight.

Ghana, however, has described the video as inciting and a threat to peace.

A statement signed by UEW read: “The University of Education Winneba wishes to inform the general public that it has taken a very serious view of the video circulating on social media, involving Prof. Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara.
“Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara, a Professor of English Language, has been on sabbatical at the Department of Applied Linguistics since October, 2018.

“In the said video, Prof. Nwagbara makes several unsavoury, unethical and damning comments about our country, its history as well as its educational system. The University totally dissociates itself from the grossly irresponsible comments and condemns it in no uncertain terms.

“The University is highly disturbed by the huge embarrassment his unguarded statement has brought to the institution, the Ministry of Education, and, indeed, Ghana as a whole.

“The University, upon receipt of the video, immediately invoked its internal disciplinary process to fully examine his conduct relative to the content of the video.

“The University wishes to indicate that it has in the past hosted several scholars on sabbatical leave from various countries, including Nigeria, and same have conducted themselves with high degree of decorum and professionalism during their stay. Prof. Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara’s behaviour is totally deviant and an aberration that runs contrary to those of his predecessors or the others currently at post.

“The University after subjecting Prof. Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara to internal disciplinary process finds him culpable of gross misconduct and has, accordingly, dismissed him.

“The University apologises to Ghanaians for Prof. Nwagbara’s disparaging remarks about this country’s educational system and further indicates that the comments were full of factual inaccuracies.”

In the controversial video seen, the don obviously, unaware he was being filmed, said: “They (Ghana) are using our manpower. We have an advantage that we supply to them. What are we getting back? Insults! The Nigerian community here is a bad image for Nigeria. We can take it back through the press, we can reverse.
“We have powerful media stations; Channels (TV) broadcast all over the world. AIT has a problem now, NTA does (broadcasts), many others; and there is active social media in Nigeria. Let them come look at what we have said here today. Let them come here and run documentaries of the experiences on Nigerians and blast it all over the world. In three days Ghana will respond. I have been a media person.

“You cannot be here and suffering. Let the leaders get our media guys to come here and cover what has been happening. Go to the student community, go to the business community go to everywhere, come to the embassy. Go and confront the officials with the information and within one week, I can tell you part of what is happening. I’m sorry to say it but this is within us.

“The present government in Ghana came on the grounds of Nigerian bashing. I have listened to things some of their top leaders have said all over the world, in big major places. We did not take it back sir. If we take back, they will sit up. So media strategy. One; use their own media…I have been a pressman there is no absolute truth in the media. The truth is, even history is truth as presented. Let us use our own media and get back to them.”

Politics / Fani-Kayode Reacts As Presidency Queries Obasanjo’s Absence At Democracy Day by Wisdom58(f): 8:18am On Jun 20, 2019
A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, seeking an explanation for his absence at democracy day celebration on June 12.

He said, “The former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, owes an answer to Nigerians on his absence from the 2019 Presidential inauguration and Democracy Day celebration because the claim that he was not invited or he did not receive an invitation cannot be sustained.

“Since the claim was first made, elements in the polity that have deliberately and consistently been trying to lead the country toward polarization have cashed in on it, throwing all manner of rubbish at the Buhari Presidency.”

But reacting Fani- Kayode said, “The Presidency should stop its whining about Baba Obasanjo’s failure to attend the Democracy Day celebration. They are behaving like a spoilt child that was stood up on its first date. Why would OBJ celebrate Democracy Day with an election-rigger and a tyrant who stole a mandate?”

“Why would ANY former Head of State or President attend? Apart from OBJ, @GEJonathan, Gen. Gowon, Gen. Babangida and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar ALL boycotted the event as did virtually the entire world. Doesn’t @MBuhari get the message? No-one regards you or takes you seriously,” he added.

Politics / Nigeria Is Safe, Police Insist by Wisdom58(f): 7:29am On Jun 20, 2019
In apparent response to claims by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) that some states in Nigeria were unsafe, the police on Wednesday insisted that the country is safe and beautiful.

Admitting that the country was facing some security challenges, the police stated that Nigeria is one of the beautiful places in the world to live in.

The reaction came following a statement credited to FCO advising people not to travel to some states in the country.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a report titled ‘Nigeria travel advice’ on this link ‘https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/nigeria’  advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states and within 20 kilometre of the border with Niger in Zamfara State.

The FCO also advised against all but essential travel to Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Kogi states, within 20 kilometre of the border with Niger in Sokoto and Kebbi states, non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers and Abia states.

Reacting to the travel advice through a statement in Abuja by the Force spokesman, Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), said: “The attention of the police have been drawn to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice against all travel to some States and border areas in Nigeria.

“While the Nigeria Police acknowledge that Nigeria is not without some security challenges, just like other nations of the world, including the advanced democracies, we wish to restate that Nigeria remains one of the most beautiful places to live in the world. It is a safe country with its own peculiar socio-economic and security challenges.

“We therefore wish to reassure Nigerians and the international community of their safety and the commitment of the police and other security agencies to continue to provide effective security services to the nation.”

Family / Benefits Of Sexual Intercourse During Pregnancy by Wisdom58(f): 9:43pm On Jun 19, 2019
Its strange and funny how so many people go on a long sex vacation when they get pregnant or abandon their wives when they get pregnant in terms of sex. The reasons or excuses are many but before i touch on the many misconceptions some have, i will like to encourage pregnant women who will like their husbands to have sex with them to also put in some effort to get them attracted. Just because you are pregnant does not mean you shouldn't take good care of yourself. Bath well and regularly because of the numerous hormones in your system due to the pregnancy. Dress well and look good but don't stay down and look unattractive and expect your husband to come. Dont keep saliva in your mouth for long otherwise it can put your partner off.

When it comes to misconceptions that people have about sex during pregnancy, notable among them is that, the semen will spill on the baby and might kill it. The penis might be hitting the baby's head and affect it. The woman wouldn't feel for sex during that stage. She will get pregnant again.

When a woman conceives, her cervix is closed. When she engages in sex, the semen cannot go through the cervix because there is also a mucus plug to prevent anything from entering. The penis cannot pass through the cervix into the womb. Most women rather feel for sex when they get pregnant. When a woman gets pregnant, the hormones prevents ovulation which is the release of the egg from the ovary. Imagine the disaster or the trouble of your husband or wife or your partner to wait throughout the 9 months plus delivery, to resume having sex with you. How many people will be able to wait till that period?

The only exception is when the doctor or midwife has indicated that sex can cause a problem for the pregnancy due to vaginal bleeding, repeated miscarriage, early labour treatment or anything else that poses risk.

Now lets take a look at some of the benefits of having sex when pregnant.

1. Sex during pregnancy is a form of exercise for the lady. This also keeps her active and healthy because it burns out calorie and keeps blood pressure in check.

2. Sexual intercourse has the ability to activate the feel good hormones in the system. If the pregnant woman is happy, it makes the unborn happy because of their connection.

3. During pregnancy, it offers the couple or partners the opportunity to explore certain sex positions they may not have tried before. Sometimes you even later adopt those ones as your favourite even after delivery.

4. It creates a bond between the partners as the two people do not have to sexually fast for over 9 months. When sex continuous during pregnancy it doesn't break the flow between them.

5. Sex is even more enjoyable during pregnancy especially for the woman because of the different hormones in her system and also the blood flow in her vulva.

Career / Meet The First Woman To Lead A U.S. Army Infantry Division by Wisdom58(f): 6:36pm On Jun 14, 2019
Brigadier General Laura Yeager will make history this month, becoming the first woman to lead a United States Army infantry division.

A decorated helicopter pilot, General Yeager will take command of the 40th Infantry Division in the California National Guard, a unit that has been led by men for more than 100 years, The New York Times reports.

“Throughout my career, I have been mentored by many great officers and noncommissioned officers,” General Yeager told the Times. “They never once treated me differently because I was female, which is exactly how it should be and how I wanted to be treated.”

On June 29, in a ceremony in Los Alamitos, Calif., General Yeager will take command of the division from Major General Mark Malanka, who is retiring, according to the Times. The military unit was formed in September 1917 as the U.S. entered World War I, and has deployed soldiers in World War II, the Korean War, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

“My most important responsibility is ensuring my soldiers are ready to fight and win our nation’s wars, while also being prepared to serve the citizens of California during natural disasters,” General Yeager said.

While deployed in Iraq in 2011, General Yeager flew UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, then later commanded the California National Guard’s 40th Combat Aviation Brigade, which her father once helmed, the Times reported. In 2016, she became the fourth woman in the California National Guard to rise to the rank of general.

The NCAC boss lamented especially the use of social media by Bobrisky and his ilk to continually send very bad signals to the world in what he called a totally false representation of our identity noting that this must be put in check.

Politics / Gov. Wike, Abe Deploying ‘witchcraft’ Against Amaechi’s Reappointment By Buhari by Wisdom58(f): 12:50pm On Jun 13, 2019
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has alleged that there were campaigns of calumny to de-market the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, by the State Governor, Nyesom Wike and a former Rivers lawmaker, Senator Magnus Abe.

He said the campaigns were a mere waste of time and effort in futility, describing them as acts of witchcraft, diabolical, wicked, unjust and unacceptable.

Eze accused the Governor of sponsoring some negative media campaigns targeted against the former Minister and the immediate past Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe.

He said that Abe and Wike were trying to force President Buhari’s hand against re-appointing Amaechi.

However, Eze in a statement he forwarded to thickmatch.com on Thursday, said all opinions of Nigerians, as well as key figures within and outside government, have placed the former Governor of Rivers state several miles ahead of his traducers.

Eze alleged that Wike and Abe had engaged the services of some media influencers to be issuing out press statements and appearing as guests on some national television stations and be buying advertorial pages in some national dailies, and requesting President Buhari not to renominate Hon. Amaechi into his cabinet.

He, however, described all these efforts as “acts of witchcraft, diabolical, wicked, unjust and unacceptable, noting that Amaechi, by his patriotic zeal and commitment for a new Nigeria, merits to be reappointed into the yet-to-be constituted cabinet of President Muhammad Buhari.

“Besides the fact that Amaechi served as the Director General of the Buhari Presidential Campaigns, a role he had previously played in 2015 and happily delivered on both mandates as the President won his re-election in February, coupled with the revolution that he brought into the rail system in Nigeria, he has beaten his enemies to their game.

“He has performed creditably well in the transportation ministry; the former minister completed some ongoing railway projects like the Kaduna-Abuja road, the Abuja rail and Warri-Itakpe rail. The Lagos-Ibadan railway will be completed early next year and for continuity, which has been one of the hallmarks of President Buhari’s administration, Amaechi’s nomination is a foregone conclusion.

“Assuming all that Amaechi achieved on behalf of Nigeria and President Buhari do not guarantee his renomination, then the acceptance by majority of Nigerians that Amaechi was not only the best minister in the immediate past federal executive cabinet but the most outstanding among his colleagues, which they indicated in the various media surveys, will ensure his nomination.

“If merit and position of majority of Nigerians will not earn Amaechi a renomination, then the spiritual angle to his political career will come to play. This is a man who always have a second chance in all his political career”, Eze said.

Politics / Whistleblowers Must Be Under Oath To File Petition, Says EFCC by Wisdom58(f): 11:36am On Jun 13, 2019
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has advanced reasons over its new policy that will compile potential whistleblowers to be under oath before filing petition.

The Commission introduced the process that compels a whistleblower to sign an undertaking, including taking an oath, before filing an allegation of corruption, to check unfolding abuse of the policy.

Zonal head, Kano office, Garba Dugum, made this Known in Kano at a training workshop on budget tracking and project monitoring for civil society organisations (CSOs) in northern Nigeria.

Dugum, who expressed disgust over series of petitions filed by supposed whistleblowers, which were later found to be false declaration, noted that EFCC finds it absolutely important to initiate the new policy to check needless allegations.

Represented by the head, economic governance, Kano office, Sani Mohammed, he reminded them of the extent false declaration could damage reputation, insisting that EFCC was also conscious of engaging on needless litigation false petitions could ignite.

Read Also: EFCC rejects transfer of ex-minister Akinjide’s case to new judge
“Talking about the success of the whistleblower policy in Kano, I am sure you are aware the case of former Group Managing Director (GMD) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu, emanated from Kano. Though the case is still in Kano. If you convert the monies involved, you are talking of billions of naira.

“That was why EFCC introduced oath-taking by whistleblowers, to ensure that the information given is correct. The commission will not hesitate to prosecute any person who gives false information, simply because you want to settle scores with another person,” says Dugum.

He said EFCC’s doors were open for intelligence, and commended the efforts of the CSOs in raising critical cases of corruption and exposing ills in the society.

Professor Mohammad Fagge of Bayero University Kano (BUK) charged the CSOs on independence and self funding in carrying out their activities.

The professor of political science noted that relying on activities of CSOs to government or individuals’ sponsorship would reduce their credibility and objectivity.
