GafarOlatunji: Better morning All. Coryza appears to be the order of the day in my farm too. I have lost a handful of birds to this menace. I don't have any scientific proofs for the cause, but I'm thinking it might be due to the still air around this time. The rains have stopped suddenly, and the air in the atmosphere has been still and very cold. In addition, I dug up to understand that Coryza is an acute infectious bacterial disease. Hence, there is a need to separate the diseased fowl(s) from the healthy ones. It's just like isolating a sick person at the hospital, whilst the rest of the birds, though not sick, would be treated preventively against the disease. I administered drugs, but in some cases, I lost some of them. |

ModestGal: Hello, First, I believe you. I do not have any reasons to doubt you any ways. Second, I need for you and everyone advising you to understand that INFATUATION is an intense, but short-lived passion or admiration for someone or something. Often, it leads to strange, but dramatic desire to take advantage of the subject. According to you, it does not seem any of these persons wanted to take advantage of you sexually or otherwise. Also, you did mention how one professor flung your defense papers due to the same reason. This is where I got confused. Would you say, some time, people who got infatuated towards you wanted sex or sought to take undue advantage of you? If not affirmative, I would consider the strange feeling to be pure PLATONIC friendship. The only thing the person desires is, perhaps, reciprocation, mutual respect and admiration. MY ADVICE: - You need to reciprocate their gestures because, according to you, it does not seem it would stop any time soon. - You need to keep such relationship as mutual as possible. - If possible, do not go too close to them or avoid such persons altogether. - Where the preceding is not possible, work on yourself to develop certain soft skills such as strong listening skills, strong tolerance, empathy, among others. - Avoid unhealthy or provocative conversations as much as possible. You could subtly change subjects of discussions just to keep the party on your line of thought. Remember, never to get drawn into any form of arguments. - The biggest part is to work on yourself. Savour the love shown, but remember to draw the line. Set personal bounds such as above. This way, you should be able to NOT get into the other side of toxic relationship. Cheers! |

Religion / Re: Pornography & Masturbation: A Struggling Christian Needs Help by wisdomline: 11:40am On Jul 28, 2020 |
derrick015: Hello Brother, What I am about to pen down is sincerely from my heart and from someone who cares. On your behalf, I appreciate all the advice and recommendations you received on this platform. The bondage and addiction to masturbation and pornography is a raging battle situated in your mind, which manifests physically in your indulgence in same. The mind is the battlefield of all forms of addictions, obsession and depression. Interestingly, the mind is also where you gain freedom. It is no surprise the devil tenaciously seeks control of our mind. Once your mind is won over to addiction, your physical body will conform to fulfilling the desires thereof. Therefore, I will encourage you to know that the mind will have to be controlled by either of two spiritual forces: Jehovah God or the devil. The Christian Scripture says: Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.’ Prov 4.23 (NKJV). The NIV version says: ‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.’ Prov 4.23 The Scripture above corroborates my earlier explanation. So, the difference between the Carnal man and the Spirit-filled man comes from who controls the mind. Thus, the need to perpetually guard it! The process of emancipation and freedom from the addiction starts from: 1. Being humble and submissive; accepting Jehovah God is not, and can never be, pleased with masturbation and pornography. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corin 6:19 2. Asking God for help. First acknowledge you have sinned, then pray and ask for forgiveness and grace from Him. The Bible says, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 3. Renewing your mind always by filling it with the Word of God and edifying literature and biblically-sound engagements. ‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…’ Romans 12:2. Take note of the present continuous verb – renewing - It has to be a lifestyle. 4. Do away with all appearances that could trigger sexual urges. The Bible also says, Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22. You have received beautiful pieces of advice on this already. For instance: i. Delete/destroy pictures, photos, CDs, internet links, et al that could remind you of your old escapades. ii. Change your phone to a non-internet-enabled type. iii. You could ask IT department at your place of work to disable internet on your official/work computer system or restrict access to sensitive sites, contents, materials, pop-ups, prompts, etc. iv. Destroy or avoid anything that could trigger erotic thoughts. v. It is possible your weak-point could be the opposite sex around your life (at home, workplace, church, or places you visit regularly). This can happen whether or not you are married. Suggested solutions are to avoid looking at this particular opposite sex. Or avoid looking at, and having close contact (such as hugging, touching, etc.) with the opposite sex altogether. There is an admonition in Matthew 5:28, ‘But I tell anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart’ 5. More importantly, and having done all, take note that you cannot easily delete images already installed in your mind. Kindly take note that, the same way a visited internet site saves caches and cookies in your local computer system, the same way your mind saves caches & cookies of erotic images you had seen. Thus, it would not be unusual that, from time to time, the devil will still drop suggestions in the form of bringing back those graphical imageries. They will come like flashes in your mind, but YOU MUST RESIST them! The Scripture says ‘Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he shall flee from you.’ James 4:7 (NKJV). Similarly, 'Submit to God, resist the devil likewise you younger people,...(1 Peter 5:5) 6. You need to have a responsibility partner with whom you can relate your progress. It is advisable that a well-respected, mature Christian will qualify for this role, perhaps, your pastor. The responsibility partner will hold your hand and go along with you all the way. As someone said earlier in a post to you, sexual urges in themselves are not really sinful. It is the way human beings are wired. It is the actions that follow that could lead to sin. 7. Alongside all the remedial approaches, both spiritual and physical mentioned above, keep trusting God always ask for grace. Shalom! |

Farouq94: @Farouq94 - Your efforts are quite commendable! I like that you are trying to provide alternative, organic protein for your local poultry. I guess, it would be of immense insight to share my personal termite-hunt experience. Simply, I place used flattened carton or cardboard over the most moist area (especially where I had noticed few insect/termite holes) in my yard. I do this in the evenings. The idea is, by the following morning, you will find termites under the carton. My fowls know this, so they usually cluster around the carton, and start their feast as soon as I remove it. Similarly, I rear worms as alternative protein for my local poultry as well. I use waste wood-shaving-litters for this process. There is a part of my little farm where I dump used litters. All you need to do is to add water to the heap of the used litters. In fact, I dispose dirty water from my poultry water-cans and drinkers to the dump site. As a result of decomposition, which is accelerated by poultry dungs, water and heat from sun, worms naturally start breeding underneath the decomposing used poultry-litter dump. You would see hundreds of huge, huge worms when you turn the litters with a shovel or rake. Local fowls like this sumptuous delicacy - which can be achieved at almost no extra cost. An |

GafarOlatunji: It is welcoming to read all the insights shared on this thread on Native fowls. Diseases in local/native chickens are not quickly noticeable because they (native chickens) are highly resistant to most poultry diseases. The beauty about them is they find a way of getting/eating the right weeds/grasses to help them fight off diseases. Please, watch out: whenever you notice your local chickens eating any grass or weed, just know it is good for them, and as such, such weeds/grasses are medicinal and should be retained around them, at least, in little quantity. It must be said, however, that most common issues with them are lices and pox. One simple way to eliminate lices is to clear the last brooding place. This can be done by burning the wood-shavings or the absorbent used as soon as the hens are done hatching. If brooding was done on bare floor or sand or soil, apply generous quantity o kereosene at the site. One should also regularly (at least once monthly) spray their coop/pen with kerosene or anti-lice. You could also apply anti-lice on the top and bottom winged-feathers of each fowl. (Please, do not allow the anti-lice touch their skin) Similarly, for the rest of the diseases, as mentioned by @GafarOlatunji, bitterleaf and scent-leaf extracts will do magic. As antibiotic, one could also extract juice from Aloe-vera and Tagiri and add to their drinking water. You could also simply dice the aloe-vera and Tagiri into their water. You can do that for 5 consecutive days every single month. For pox; it highly contagious. Neem Leaves have antibacterial property and could remedy an outbreak of pox infection. Cut and allow neem leaves to ferment in a bowl of water for about 7 days. Fermentation is done by covering the bowl (preferably paint-bucket) with a cloth or perforated nylon. Add, a tablespoonful of this fermented neem-leaf solution into their drinking water for 5 consecutive days. Another method is to get what is known to the Yorubas as GELU, and apply to spot where the pox is. The pox will dry up in a couple of days. (Modify) (Quote) (Report) (Share) |

Farouq94: You got that absolutely on point. However, I ensure about 99.5 of my eggs are hatched. By collecting the dry hatched chicks as soon as hatched, you keep the hen sitting on the rest eggs and the brooding continues, by extension, all eggs are hatched. If there is any left and the hen is out, I will put the unhatched eggs under another brooding hen, which continues the hatching. 1 Like 1 Share |

Farouq94: Quite true! Expectedly, virtually all day-old land mammals would require some form of heat either from their parents or as provided by the breeder because their skins are almost bare. For native DoCs, there are two cheap strategies to keep them warm in the first two weeks: (1) You could allow the DoCs stay with the mother hen within the first two-three weeks before weaning-off. (2) You could collect them as soon as hatched and keep in a warm place. I agree with you because I failed to add that I use both strategies, but prefer the latter. I usually collect almost all my native DoCs as soon as hatched. I use my laundry/Store room as brooding place. I keep them in cartons as mentioned earlier in the Store room whilst ensuring the window is closed. I stated earlier that you close the carton lids, but not completely - leaving them ajar. Corroborating your point, it's best to use a thermometer anyways. I have raised more than 50 native chicks this way. In fact, I did synchronised hatching, and raised 36 chicks, lost one. The rest 35 are doing great. I will try share the pictures later. |

GafarOlatunji: Dear, you have done a pretty good job. However, please, take note that day-old local chicks do not require lattern or any heating system to keep warm. You just need to keep them in a carton relative to their size and cover the carton at night. For instance, if you have about 12 chicks, a small indomie carton would do just fine. At night, you flip the lids over - almost ajar - not completely closed, and they will be fine. For everyone's information, I have huge experience in raising local chickens as well as cross-breeding them to attain between 2.5 - 3kg in about 6-7months. However, I often don't have time to discuss my progress on this platform. I believe I will do that someday for a fee though. It's been one of the most fascinating learning experience for me, but the learning curve has been really rewarding. Good luck everyone! 5 Likes 1 Share |
