Good Morning All

@Wisdomline , the process is by trying to open the eyes gently and locate the mucus ,and gentle press and remove it, and make sure non is left in the eye....This is why all of my isolated birds are not fine yet, when I remove the mucus some still remain inside and I do not see it probably some of the swallon place are not soft/ripe at the time, so the following day if I see watery eyes I check the bird eyes again and remove the remaining, once everything is remove the birds watering eyes will stop in short time.

@Azarina, Thanks for putting more light , everything started with pox , and I had been applying (jelu) and later palm canel oil....and the first two affected birds got better, but I do not isolate while treating them. Isolation is very important and will not do the mistake again.

I got the weed this morning and I had apply as prescribed but I do not apply pko as am rushing to work this morning but I will do later in the day, and I will report the outcome also

Thanks @GafarOlatunji for sharing this piece of exciting news. I guess PKO means Palm Kernel Oil (Adia-agbon), right?
I will try do as advised. Hopefully, they get better.
Thanks once again!

Good Day Everyone

I want to appreciate everyone's in this thread, and more appreciation to every contributors in this group...May God increase us all.

Big thanks to Azarina and Jidestroud for coming to I and my chick rescue , I mean from saving us from disaster of corrizer .

I removed the mucus and injected lime juice as prescribed, and repeat same thing everyday this is day four and I had free 3 out of eight birds in isolation, and the others are also improving. I will say this organic treatment of lime work fine for corrizer..

Tomorrow is day five of treatment, can I continue with the treatment after tomorrow if am not satisfy with situations of other in isolation?

This is one of the sick bed, and it's the most affected , I thought the eyes has spoiled before start of lime treatment, because it real swell and blocked

Oga, @GafarOlatunji,
May I ask the process of removing the pus/mucus?
Thanks.

Pls, I need urgent help before situation is out of control

Better morning All.

Coryza appears to be the order of the day in my farm too. I have lost a handful of birds to this menace. I don't have any scientific proofs for the cause, but I'm thinking it might be due to the still air around this time. The rains have stopped suddenly, and the air in the atmosphere has been still and very cold.

In addition, I dug up to understand that Coryza is an acute infectious bacterial disease. Hence, there is a need to separate the diseased fowl(s) from the healthy ones. It's just like isolating a sick person at the hospital, whilst the rest of the birds, though not sick, would be treated preventively against the disease.

I administered drugs, but in some cases, I lost some of them.

Wow, you won my heart. I never knew we still have many wise people like this on this Earth.
Thanks for all the tips, and I'm glad you understood my write-up, this is why I'm starting to think majority of Nigerians are dumb, check this post of mine and you would see jealousy, hatred, only few were sensible to reason along.

Well, infatuation may not really be the right word since there's no sexual feelings attached, but I don't know what else to use for a ''short loved intense likeness that often lead to those people angry when I'm unable to flow along'', what I know is the likeness is usually too deep for a beginning relationship, and its usually exhausting for me to keep up with them because I would have to FAKE and FAKE, and at the end, I would just give up.

Would like to be your friend if you don't mind, I believe I would learn alot from you, and I would also be beneficicial in some way (mutual friendship) if you agree, kindly chat me directly through the link on my signature

Romance / Re: How Do I Solve My Problem Of Infatuation: Extreme weird love and likeness for me by wisdomline: 5:36pm On Aug 05, 2020
ModestGal:
I have this problem, 90% of people that come close to me get infatuated with me, not sexually or romantically I think. But this extreme intense feeling of likeness and uncontrollable interest in me that makes absolute no sense to me. Humans get extremely wowed with me, wants to know my in and out in an impatiently funny way, they would want to start an intense friendship/relationship with me, in a very fast funny way. I wont call myself beautiful though, but I'm indeed an Angel in Human form, what I mean is that not like I'm intensely beautiful, but I know I have this Uniqueness, an Angelic presence that is binding, inviting and mouth opening. Also, I do not think I have any features that would be immodestly inviting because many atimes I wear Abaya. I wear only jalamias with big arms and extremely long ones, I don't use make ups either nor do I use powders as I'm fond of rushing out of my house. Of course, I want to be loved,I cherish those that like me, but not in a toxic, weird manner, a healthy one.

I have tried both ways of accepting and rejecting these people, but they all usually end sour. Infact, in a particular case, I almost got my defense paper thrown away by one of these people (a Prof) that got infatuated with me.

It has lead to many haters, sometimes I feel its because I could not return same energy of love and likeness, that's why they end hating me in return, but each time I try to accept these people, it still doesn't end well. But my love/likeness for people actually grows in a healthy way, I don't get wowed at first, or extremely excited like people do to me

It's emotionally draining because I'm naturally a nice person and of course act friendly, and thus it's difficult to manage these people that get infatuated with me

This has nothing to do with dating me please, it happens with both males and females. The females end up doing all sorts of crazy things. Its painful because I don't feel infatuated about anyone, I don't know why people do that to me. I also like people, but usually in a healthy way, and it would definitely be respectful and would end very nicely and the people would always be glad I met them.
Some would say I'm proud, some would say I don't like them, some would just go funnily mute, some would become obsessive, some would want to be controlling, etc.

It makes me to avoid people, when I'm supposed to be happy that I get liked easily by people, I'm usually sad about it, because I know where it would end. It makes me not to want to associate the more, or talk where I am supposed to, or be real me in public
Please share with me how you are able to solve this problem if you have ever been in my shoes, or if you know any way I could stop this from re occurring.

Note** This has nothing to do with dating, or people asking me out, I get healthy people in that region, and no problem there at all
Also, I don't fit in the definition of ''beautiful'' with so many people, it would only take another Angel to see those beauty, so no need dropping any pic
I'm not weird either, I'm a normal human being

Hello,

First, I believe you. I do not have any reasons to doubt you any ways.

Second, I need for you and everyone advising you to understand that INFATUATION is an intense, but short-lived passion or admiration for someone or something. Often, it leads to strange, but dramatic desire to take advantage of the subject. According to you, it does not seem any of these persons wanted to take advantage of you sexually or otherwise.

Also, you did mention how one professor flung your defense papers due to the same reason. This is where I got confused. Would you say, some time, people who got infatuated towards you wanted sex or sought to take undue advantage of you? If not affirmative, I would consider the strange feeling to be pure PLATONIC friendship. The only thing the person desires is, perhaps, reciprocation, mutual respect and admiration.

MY ADVICE:
- You need to reciprocate their gestures because, according to you, it does not seem it would stop any time soon.

- You need to keep such relationship as mutual as possible.

- If possible, do not go too close to them or avoid such persons altogether.

- Where the preceding is not possible, work on yourself to develop certain soft skills such as strong listening skills, strong tolerance, empathy, among others.

- Avoid unhealthy or provocative conversations as much as possible. You could subtly change subjects of discussions just to keep the party on your line of thought. Remember, never to get drawn into any form of arguments.

- The biggest part is to work on yourself. Savour the love shown, but remember to draw the line. Set personal bounds such as above. This way, you should be able to NOT get into the other side of toxic relationship.

Cheers!

These so called healing centers shut down when they were needed most.
Now we're awaiting science to provide a cure.
When it comes to chasing away spiritual husbands and wife Christian's are ready to come out in thousands with their so called healing power.

Truly their god is false.

Would you say the fact that your mother went through pains to give birth to you make pregnancy a bad thing?

Would you say the fact that because you fell ill at different times, as a child, make your parents uncaring or bad or false?

Would you say because there are crimes everywhere in Nigeria, Police or government at large do not exist?

Then, It is foolish to say that because there is pandemic world-over, Jehovah God is not true. At a time in your life, sooner or later, you will look and ask for his help.

derrick015:
Good morning everyone.

The subject refers,
I am a Christian. However, I have been struggling with a whole lot of non Christian like habit. One of such habit is watching of pornography and masturbating. This habit has lingered for more than 10 years now.
I am an introvert probably what has made it worse and perpetual.
I don't like this act. But I usually still practice it.

I believe God loves me but he hates this act. I really don't know how to STOP IT.

Pls I need help. This has really affected my relationship with the Holy spirit, myself and other people please help.

Also I have discovered that in the past 2 years i have been so disorganized, and forgetful.

At work I have been termed a LIER. I feel really embarrassed with myself when people give me something and I forget I have been given or I don't know where exactly I kept it. Then I will be asked of the same thing I won't be able to find it. Sometimes I deny it was ever given to me because I can't remember It was ever given to me.

This has brought me a lot of struggles at work(banking) and has made me ever so frustrated with myself.

I WASN'T LIKE THIS before. It so unfortunate this is happening to me.

My prayer life too has gone down the drain it's zero. I attend church service Sunday however due to the current lockdown I can say I don't have any relationship with God!

Please I need help

Hello Brother,

What I am about to pen down is sincerely from my heart and from someone who cares. On your behalf, I appreciate all the advice and recommendations you received on this platform.

The bondage and addiction to masturbation and pornography is a raging battle situated in your mind, which manifests physically in your indulgence in same. The mind is the battlefield of all forms of addictions, obsession and depression. Interestingly, the mind is also where you gain freedom. It is no surprise the devil tenaciously seeks control of our mind. Once your mind is won over to addiction, your physical body will conform to fulfilling the desires thereof.

Therefore, I will encourage you to know that the mind will have to be controlled by either of two spiritual forces: Jehovah God or the devil. The Christian Scripture says: Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.’ Prov 4.23 (NKJV). The NIV version says: ‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.’ Prov 4.23

The Scripture above corroborates my earlier explanation. So, the difference between the Carnal man and the Spirit-filled man comes from who controls the mind. Thus, the need to perpetually guard it!

The process of emancipation and freedom from the addiction starts from:
1. Being humble and submissive; accepting Jehovah God is not, and can never be, pleased with masturbation and pornography. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 1 Corin 6:19

2. Asking God for help. First acknowledge you have sinned, then pray and ask for forgiveness and grace from Him. The Bible says, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

3. Renewing your mind always by filling it with the Word of God and edifying literature and biblically-sound engagements. ‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…’ Romans 12:2. Take note of the present continuous verb – renewing - It has to be a lifestyle.

4. Do away with all appearances that could trigger sexual urges. The Bible also says, Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22. You have received beautiful pieces of advice on this already. For instance:

i. Delete/destroy pictures, photos, CDs, internet links, et al that could remind you of your old escapades.

ii. Change your phone to a non-internet-enabled type.

iii. You could ask IT department at your place of work to disable internet on your official/work computer system or restrict access to sensitive sites, contents, materials, pop-ups, prompts, etc.

iv. Destroy or avoid anything that could trigger erotic thoughts.

v. It is possible your weak-point could be the opposite sex around your life (at home, workplace, church, or places you visit regularly). This can happen whether or not you are married. Suggested solutions are to avoid looking at this particular opposite sex. Or avoid looking at, and having close contact (such as hugging, touching, etc.) with the opposite sex altogether. There is an admonition in Matthew 5:28, ‘But I tell anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart’

5. More importantly, and having done all, take note that you cannot easily delete images already installed in your mind. Kindly take note that, the same way a visited internet site saves caches and cookies in your local computer system, the same way your mind saves caches & cookies of erotic images you had seen. Thus, it would not be unusual that, from time to time, the devil will still drop suggestions in the form of bringing back those graphical imageries.

They will come like flashes in your mind, but YOU MUST RESIST them! The Scripture says ‘Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he shall flee from you.’ James 4:7 (NKJV). Similarly, 'Submit to God, resist the devil likewise you younger people,...(1 Peter 5:5)

6. You need to have a responsibility partner with whom you can relate your progress. It is advisable that a well-respected, mature Christian will qualify for this role, perhaps, your pastor. The responsibility partner will hold your hand and go along with you all the way. As someone said earlier in a post to you, sexual urges in themselves are not really sinful. It is the way human beings are wired. It is the actions that follow that could lead to sin.

7. Alongside all the remedial approaches, both spiritual and physical mentioned above, keep trusting God always ask for grace.

Shalom!

Thank you for sharing your insights.

I am trying to see the easiest way for me to capture the termites on a large scale at the cheapest cost possible. Cartons are not available to me, but I have an abundance of rice straws and stalks, so that seems to be the most economical option for me.

My location is very dry. So I have never seen a worm in my farm. But I have a lot in my home garden, I captured some last year in the effort of starting a worm bin, everything was going fine for a bit, but the liquid content in the bin became too much and the worms all died. It was demoralising and since then I haven’t tried again.

Knowing chickens love them now, I will definitely give it a another go!

Do you use poultry litter only for your worms?

Yes, whilst following the process above.

Re: Termites as Alternative Protein Source

Last week, I bought clay pots, chopped sorghum stalks, added some rice straws, then wet all the media and buried them in the ground.

I have no doubt that I’ll capture termites. I’m trying to raise these chickens with as low cost as possible without compromising on quality. The question remains how infinitely scaleable this system is, and if I can supplement my chickens protein requirement even if its by 25%.

I guess I’ll find out when I see how many termites one pot can trap.

@Farouq94 - Your efforts are quite commendable!

I like that you are trying to provide alternative, organic protein for your local poultry. I guess, it would be of immense insight to share my personal termite-hunt experience.

Simply, I place used flattened carton or cardboard over the most moist area (especially where I had noticed few insect/termite holes) in my yard. I do this in the evenings. The idea is, by the following morning, you will find termites under the carton. My fowls know this, so they usually cluster around the carton, and start their feast as soon as I remove it.

Similarly, I rear worms as alternative protein for my local poultry as well. I use waste wood-shaving-litters for this process. There is a part of my little farm where I dump used litters. All you need to do is to add water to the heap of the used litters. In fact, I dispose dirty water from my poultry water-cans and drinkers to the dump site. As a result of decomposition, which is accelerated by poultry dungs, water and heat from sun, worms naturally start breeding underneath the decomposing used poultry-litter dump. You would see hundreds of huge, huge worms when you turn the litters with a shovel or rake. Local fowls like this sumptuous delicacy - which can be achieved at almost no extra cost.

@ Farouq94 Thank you so much for bringing this type of thread to life , this is more than a thread is more of school, because me personally am learning a lot from here, and this is also giving courage to push more on my project.

Yes your previous answer to my question answered exactly what I want to know.

Thanks for sharing the process of your incubator and the egg, am eager to hear more. And want to to more about incubator and hatching of egg, other people that know more about this should kindly share.

Medication is another important aspect in poultry management, yes local birds are resistance to diseases but yet they sick sometimes. As for me I had notice blood stain in my chick poo , i think it’s sign of cocidioses , another thing that has happened to me swelling of eyes and raches around the eye.

For the blood stain poo , I treated with saint leave, bitter leave extract, pepper, ginger and garlic, I pounded pepper, garlic and ginger together and mix with the extracted leaves and it work, for the swelling eyes, I clean the surface with spirit and apply injection powder, and also give the above mixture as antibiotics, the swelling eyes treatment is still in progress but seems is working. Please, I personally needs more light on possible diseases and treat to save investment.

It is welcoming to read all the insights shared on this thread on Native fowls.

Diseases in local/native chickens are not quickly noticeable because they (native chickens) are highly resistant to most poultry diseases. The beauty about them is they find a way of getting/eating the right weeds/grasses to help them fight off diseases. Please, watch out: whenever you notice your local chickens eating any grass or weed, just know it is good for them, and as such, such weeds/grasses are medicinal and should be retained around them, at least, in little quantity.

It must be said, however, that most common issues with them are lices and pox. One simple way to eliminate lices is to clear the last brooding place. This can be done by burning the wood-shavings or the absorbent used as soon as the hens are done hatching. If brooding was done on bare floor or sand or soil, apply generous quantity o kereosene at the site. One should also regularly (at least once monthly) spray their coop/pen with kerosene or anti-lice. You could also apply anti-lice on the top and bottom winged-feathers of each fowl. (Please, do not allow the anti-lice touch their skin)

Similarly, for the rest of the diseases, as mentioned by @GafarOlatunji, bitterleaf and scent-leaf extracts will do magic. As antibiotic, one could also extract juice from Aloe-vera and Tagiri and add to their drinking water. You could also simply dice the aloe-vera and Tagiri into their water. You can do that for 5 consecutive days every single month.

For pox; it highly contagious. Neem Leaves have antibacterial property and could remedy an outbreak of pox infection. Cut and allow neem leaves to ferment in a bowl of water for about 7 days. Fermentation is done by covering the bowl (preferably paint-bucket) with a cloth or perforated nylon. Add, a tablespoonful of this fermented neem-leaf solution into their drinking water for 5 consecutive days. Another method is to get what is known to the Yorubas as GELU, and apply to spot where the pox is. The pox will dry up in a couple of days.

I do that as well. This is something that only experience will teach you. You don’t see that written online. Some hens actually leave the nest too early, and one can assume the rest of the eggs cannot hatch when in reality they only need a day or two more.

Thanks for pointing this vital point out.

Most absolutely.

Basically, synchronised hatching is when you get your chickens to hatch on the same day, despite the fact that they did not start laying on the same day.

Say for instance you have 3 hens, each started laying on a different day of the week. So you leave one egg in their nest which will encourage them to keep laying ( that egg should be a golf ball, or a marked boiled egg). You store the eggs you pick in a clean COOL environment and turn them at least twice a day. Don’t keep the eggs for more than 10 days, as that can reduce its hatchability. I personally don’t leave them beyond 7 days.

So even if one of the hens start to brood, it will be on that ‘dummy egg’ whilst you’re waiting for the next hen to go broody as well. As soon you have two going broody, you bring those eggs you’ve been saving, remove the ‘dummy egg’ and share the fresh eggs between them.

So they start brooding on the same day, and your chicks will hatch the same day. This will help you manage the brooding of the chicks when you take them away from their mothers, that is if you’re brooding them yourself.

I sometimes choose the biggest chicken and give her all the chicks to save from the stress of brooding.

You got that absolutely on point.
However, I ensure about 99.5 of my eggs are hatched. By collecting the dry hatched chicks as soon as hatched, you keep the hen sitting on the rest eggs and the brooding continues, by extension, all eggs are hatched. If there is any left and the hen is out, I will put the unhatched eggs under another brooding hen, which continues the hatching.

All day old chickens actually require a source of heat for at least two weeks. Using a thermometer is the best way to avoid any issues, and its very inexpensive to get one. The only concern with using lantern is the fumes, as that can cause respiratory diseases. But if the lantern is in good condition, then its okay to use it as a source of heat. Also, closing them up in a carton might not be the best way, as that can suffocate them, if that doesn’t, it might create a humid environment inside the carton, which is like inviting bacteria to start proliferating inside, as their poop is already there.

If you don’t mind me, you can share how you got that weight, it doesn’t have to be an in-depth explanation. So we can all learn a thing or two. Thank you.

Quite true! Expectedly, virtually all day-old land mammals would require some form of heat either from their parents or as provided by the breeder because their skins are almost bare.

For native DoCs, there are two cheap strategies to keep them warm in the first two weeks:

(1) You could allow the DoCs stay with the mother hen within the first two-three weeks before weaning-off.
(2) You could collect them as soon as hatched and keep in a warm place.

I agree with you because I failed to add that I use both strategies, but prefer the latter. I usually collect almost all my native DoCs as soon as hatched. I use my laundry/Store room as brooding place. I keep them in cartons as mentioned earlier in the Store room whilst ensuring the window is closed. I stated earlier that you close the carton lids, but not completely - leaving them ajar. Corroborating your point, it's best to use a thermometer anyways.

I have raised more than 50 native chicks this way. In fact, I did synchronised hatching, and raised 36 chicks, lost one. The rest 35 are doing great. I will try share the pictures later.

I love this your thread sir, am a chicken lover and like to keep them and like to spend time around with them.

Am a poultry farmer, I had try layer and it was successful. Since November last year I had been wanting to venture into this local chicken, I have been searching for land to rent here in ilorin, I got one but not fence thinking of doing bamboo fence but finance is holding be back. My strong passion for this project is not making me rest since it’s not achieve yet. This year mid May I decided to start with what I have , so I got a carton and six chicks and Started from my dinning room , I got more chicks so I have 13 now and I also got them cage and keep them in my backyard this month. I hope to get bigger farm before they become plenty.

Am skeptical about the duration of local birds maturity and the wight they achieve for business purpose,I think it will be nice if I can get a way to improve their weight to get more income so to complement the time and effort.

I will like this foreign birds for cross breeding too. I was thinking of crossing noiler with local chicken, but now I will not mind this Brahma too , and if their are other you can recommend too. Please, can you drop you contact so I can had you on WhatsApp .

Am unable to upload enough pictures, maybe I will try one after the other. Thanks

Dear, you have done a pretty good job. However, please, take note that day-old local chicks do not require lattern or any heating system to keep warm.

You just need to keep them in a carton relative to their size and cover the carton at night. For instance, if you have about 12 chicks, a small indomie carton would do just fine. At night, you flip the lids over - almost ajar - not completely closed, and they will be fine.

For everyone's information, I have huge experience in raising local chickens as well as cross-breeding them to attain between 2.5 - 3kg in about 6-7months. However, I often don't have time to discuss my progress on this platform. I believe I will do that someday for a fee though.

It's been one of the most fascinating learning experience for me, but the learning curve has been really rewarding.

Good luck everyone!
