Eko Ile:

How hard is it for a man like Tinubu or any other credible investor to secure a freeking loan to buy an existing airline?

What is the man is the front man for some other investors?

With the sad rate of ignorance and stupidity many young Nigerians are displaying all over the place, that country is in serious trouble.

This is really pathetic,

You are stooooopid beyond imagination.
The funniest thing is, you seem to take yourself too seriously. Somehow, you think you have some superior knowledge and insight WRT Lagos politics and good governance.

Listen here billy boy, you dont make sense at all.

Why would or should he be fronts for investors? Even if he were, shouldnt that send off alarm bells in your head that something isnt right here?
For comparison, Why would Obama or Rahm Emmanuel act as fronts for would-be investors if he or the investors arent hiding something?

How hard is it for Tinubu to invest in Bellview? Very hard. How much does he make every year? How much does he have in his bank account? How much is he worth? For someone who hasnt held any job since leaving office.

In as much as Tinubu, like any one else in the country, is free to do what they so wish with their money, all we are asking for is accountability. Especially for a former Governor and a self-proclaimed 'progressive' that is not too much to ask, or is it?

Nice Airbus, and very nice paintjob.

For engine power and rough-weather stability, that A320 beats the Embraer195 regional jet used by Nigeria's other airline, hands down, but for shark-like sleek sexiness, the Embraer195 does have serious appeal, fer sure.

But for safety, please give me the Embraer ANY TIME ANY DAY!

Within the US, I only fly the Embraer brand. Cross-continent, any of the 740s please.

Airbus can shove it!

Thank you

In his speech, Chief Bisi thanked the lawmakers, noting that he was proud of them and that the ACN would continue to play such formidable role in this administration.

Wow!

Here comes Emperor Tinubu's reign. It seems to me that one of the scariest thing about the neologism of contemporary Nigerian politics is that we are really setting ourselves up for Fascism.

Taking dissents out of our political life, we are pretty much gradually slipping into authoritarianism, hence creating hunger that will drive us to a state that would eventually make us accept fascism because the nice thing about fascists is that they will tell you want to do, how to act, how to vote, what to think, and what is important.

And, this is how they start. More annoying, than ACN not fighting for SW's interest, is Tinubu dictating to ACN 'honorables' what to do.

May God save us in the SW.
Career / Re: Top 10 Highest Paying Jobs In Nigeria by Wizardofoz: 7:24pm On Jun 07, 2011
This is my Top five:

1.) Banking:

Minimum requirement: OND ( plus some unknown/unemployable overseas certificate)
Average Hourly Pay:  Depends on creativity, connectivity, and personal ingenuity. Yearly pay could be as high as N150 Billion (Cecelia Ibru)
Best Career Move: Print your own money a la start your own bank
Accomplished people in the field: Erastus Adegbola:OND, Intercontinental; Fola Adeola: HND, GTB; Cecilia Ibru: MSc, Oceanic; Jim Ovia: BSc, Zenith

Cons: Bad belle people like the CBN governor. Political climate remain very unstable and tribalistic.

2.) Politics:

Average Hourly Pay:  Depends. It is not un-heard of to make as 'low' as N100 Million per hour in this field. The opportunities are endless really
Best Career Move: Run for the Presidency or Speakership of the NASS. Honestly, all political posts pay very good. Be brave, thats all
Accomplished people in this field: Omisore: High school drop-out, Former deputy Governor of osun-State; Bola Tinubu: BSC/reformed drug baron turn Yoruba leader, Former Governor of Lagos; Evans Enwerem: High School drop-out/former convict,  Former Senate president; Ghalli Na'aba: SSCE (in view), Former Speaker.
Professional advancement: Pretty fast, as long as you do not offend your god-father.
Cons: god-fathers. They can do and un-do. Sometimes, it s very difficult to know whats going on in their mind and some of them with untreated mental issues make irrational/unpredictable decisions

3) Human Rights Activists:

The best business model by far in present day Nigeria. Peace of mind, no tax, as long as you have the patience to stay in school and study one of the rigorous science, preferably mathematics. Notable Exception: TB Joshua. Nuff said!

Politics / Prime Minister's Questions by Wizardofoz: 1:26pm On Jun 07, 2011
Prime minister's questions  is a constitutional convention in the United Kingdom that takes place every Wednesday (when the House of Commons is sitting) during which the prime minister spends half an hour answering questions from members of parliament.

I know we practice US style presidential system, but we are free to improvise as we see fit. I cant help wondering how a one hour monthly grilling of the president by our "Honorables" fit into our broader political agenda.

I have a feeling that something like that would invariably help strengthen our democracy and would go a long way in helping us assess our president(s) more adequately, especially when it comes to re-election time. It may also help make them more accountable to the people and also, it may give the people a rough idea of how the process works, bringing the federal government closer to the people since, technically, it is an interaction between Government and looters voters.

In addition, lets be honest with ourselves, our journalists arent doing our democracy much good. And who better to put Government's policy to the best scrutiny other than the opposition, who by virtue of their privileged privy into the inner dealings of government, know what question to ask and how to expose loop-holes in policies that may not serve our best interests.

Is there something wrong with this idea?

Tinubu replaced Mamora with Gbenga Ashafa not Remi Tinubu. Gbenga Ashafa was the man in charge of lands in Lagos and being prepped to take over as lagos state Governor come 2015 when the Epe axis is supposed to take over as Governor. that's the 2015 plan but I know Ikuforiji will fancy his chances against him.

Remi represents Lagos central.

Oyinbo nla le n lo ni? You know sey me I no sabi too many oyinbo. especially the avant garde type that flow so effortlessly from your hand. grin

Anyway, I agree with you that my last post WRT Remi's academic profile is riddled with conjectures. That Bola Ahmed Tinubu's name isnt Bola Ahmed is nothing but conjecture, that has now been accepted as true. The notion that Tinubu is not from lagos started out as, guess what, mere conjecture, of course, now we know better. That Abibatu Mogaji aka Iyaloja f isale Eko isnt really Tinubu's mother was mere conjecture, some years ago, that has withstood the test of time. That Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not attend University of Chicago started out as, well, without sounding redundant, mere hearsay, until Gani fawehinmi (RIP aka Baba rere) took it upon himself to find out the truth. We now know better.
That Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a drug dealer in Chicago, to his supporters, is mere conjecture because he didnt do any jail time. Not minding the fact that under Chicago law, accepting to forfeit almost half a million dollars, via a Nolo contendere plea = acceptance of guilt.

Because we prize truth backed up with facts and evidence, nowhere in our modern political life do we want to accept conjectures as truth, especially when it seems as some sort of politically motivated smear. Which is fine, except we also never end up talking about just where these rumors, hearsays, and conjectures come from. Meaning, where they come from INSIDE the people propagating them. As if most of these rumors were somehow just hard-wired, like facial look or bra-size; or automatically absorbed from thin air, like oxygen. As if most of the so called conjectures did not originate from people close to them.

The point is that,  in the day to day trenches of Nigerian politics, coupled with the rough terrain, lack of adequate record keeping, low quality journalism, and lawlessness, conjectures are all we have and in most cases, hearsays, bizarre as some may sound, have almost always turnout to be true.

Case in point: Remember, how shocking it was for us to hear that OBJ actually slept with his daughter-in-law. Another conjecture? grin Nuff said!

That said, we cant compare Remi Tinubu with Hillary Clinton.

Education apart. Hillary from Yale and Tinubu from Adeyemi, very irrelevant really.

What have they both achieved after leaving school?

Remi has no verifiable work history. Hillary on the other hand since she left school, from Day 1, started shattering glass ceilings for women. Too many firsts for Hillary to mention.

Hillary actually worked her way to public life.

Secondly, when Hillary was in the White house, she single handedly wrote the first Universal health care bill that was defeated by the Republicans in 1992. And it was that Bill that Mitt Romney used as his template for his universal health care policy when he was Governor of Massachusetts.

The Obama Care that Obama forced down congress neck was, for all intents, Hillary Clinton’s  health care plan. It was supposed to achieve universal coverage. How? Individual mandates. Hillary’s idea is a core provision inside the current Senate and House bills. She just wasnt a dycck sucker. She is a woman, like no other. One of the best minds in America, and indeed, in the world today.

Home Life: Hillary has raised a grown up, well brought up, Chelsea who is now the cynosure of every one. She did that while juggling professional life and politics with her marriage. Remi's children? undecided

My point: Remi does not in anyway deserve to be forced on Lagosian the way BAT did. And trying to justify it by comparing her scant/unverifiable academic and work history with Hillary's is an insult to Hillary's pristine legacy.

BSc Ed for those who studied Science Education e.g Biology Education etc

I totally understand!

She did her NCE at Adeyemi College of education, which I accept is true. But the notion that she actually completed her studies at Ife? I seriously doubt it.

The whole Idea that she went to ife surfaced during her senate run. It was well known in Lagos during Tinubu's era that she only had NCE certificate. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, but to drop Mamora, a former Lagos-State speaker and MBBS holder from "Oba Awon University" for her, they had to justify that move; hence, the whole She went to ife crap!

Mrs Oluremi Tinubu was born on September 21st 1960 as the twelfth child of Chief and Mrs. John Ikusebiala (Odugbesan) of Ogun State. She had her secondary education at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School Ijebu-Ode. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (Biology) from University of Ife, now known as the Obafemi Awolowo University as well as a National Certificate of Education in Botany and Zoology from the Adeyemi College of Education.

So it is actually possible to purify one's style?

Like Smoke gbana and kill people and then turn to God?

or Do drugs overseas and then use the money to buy good will from the people?

Maybe, purification entails running a state bankrupt, fighting your two deputies, installing a crony as your successor, and demanding 2 Billiion naira out of the 14 Billia the state makes a month, not talking about being a persona non grata in the US, explaining it all with, well, I am doing it for Yorubaland as if Yorubaland would cease to exist if you werent there.

That is exactly where the problem is: Technology transfer?

Make no mistake about it, after China and Asia, the next industrial revolution will be in either Africa or South America. We have cheap labor like mad, but are we as hardworking as the Chinese or South America? I really doubt it, and that is where the problem lies. I hope I am wrong

Africa Vs. South America, I see the West and the Chinese moving to South America and fast tracking growth there. The pace of the shift would depend on how smart the South Americans prove to be in the long run.

You know, China started off small, enticing the west to invest in their country with the allure of cheap labor and lax government oversight, but as the economy started booming, with a vibrant middle-class, the workers are now demanding more, which, in the nearest future, the west wont be willing to pay. That is what will drive where they head next. Two things, Cheap labor and corrupt/weak government.

Whichever continent is more willing to sacrifice the welfare of her people for very few ephemeral benefits is the one more likely to win the next industrial revolution. It is a race to the bottom, literally.

AT THIS POINT, I SHOULD HELP YOU OUT.
1. Corruption being universal does not mean you should justify its excessive and massive presence in Nigeria. So don't justify the mess we find ourselves just for your undue support for GEJ

I never tried to justify it. This is what I said:

Wizardofoz:

Corruption is universal. Corruption in societies, being a part of informal politics, is inevitable. This does not mean that it is acceptable, that it should not be fought.
On the contrary. Corruption is as old as human civilization and its forms have been constantly developed and refined. Just like other forms of economic white-collar crime corruption always occurs without automatically being linked to the decay of a state or the decline of moral standards.

and it is in response to your post here:
enyojo:

Have you heard of any Parliamentry Recklessness in Germany as it is globally heard of the Nigerian parliament? NO.

And you were trying to make a point that Germans are corrupt free. You claimed that GEJ chose to "arrest" Bankole at this point in order to pander to the interest and wishes of the American president

And my point is that it doesnt have to be and bringing GEJ into the case is both premature and ridiculous. Because if GEJ were following Obama's directives, as you insinuated in your earlier post, then you'd expect something of like manner to be going on in Germany, since Angela Merkel is scheduled to visit Obama on Tuesday.

Simply stated, contrary to what you'd have us believe, Bankole's arrest has no political undertones, obvious or covert. Not that it is totally impossible. From the available public evidence, we dont know that!

2. Hammering the germans simply because you want to prove to us here that Nigeria is not that bad as u imagine and fantasize is leading us to no where. so no comment on that.

Again, whatever delusions are going in your head. Keep them there, lest we assume you are crazy. I havent said that Nigeria is not bad or whatever you are thinking in your head.

This thread is about Bankole and the supposed political undertones WRT his arrest.

I am tired of trying to redirect you from your numerous tangentials. Stay focused on the topic please.

3. I am the LAST person that will say such a crap that fighting corruption equals bringing Nigeria under Werstern servituede. What I meant was that from their misbehaviours, Nigeria has had Presidents who play second fiddles to the west. they go to every extent to ensure that the please the developed nations even to the detriment of crushing their own citizens and betraying their country. E.g, GEJ went to 'kneel' before a young Robin Sanders confessing as if she was a Pope that He lacked administrative abilities,

Going off again.

I thought this thread was about how GEJ ordered Bankole's arrest status post acting a script written in Washington?

Again. are you implying that arresting a known thief = playing second fiddle to the West? Not just America, but the West?

So this is no more about America, it is now about the West?

GEJ has his crimes, just like everyone else, but this thread is about Bankole and your supposed GEJ's reason for initiating his arrest.

If you go off tangent again, I will m/a/s/tu/rba/te non stop all day long. Please dont do this to me.

another example, Obj damned the Nigerian constitution that stipulated the Nigerian boundary by selling off Bakassi all on the pretext of obeying an Int'l court decision.

How did you manage to bring OBJ into all of this? And BTW, our own Justice Ajibola was on the panel when the case was heard by the court.

4. To understand my train of thoughts, read btween d lines and don't just view my posts through any compromised lens of prejudice.

All I can say is that the bulk starts and ends on the presidents table.

I bet ya. The "buck" does stop at GEJ's table, including crimes committed by the EFCC in their attempt to make Bankole answer for his crimes, No?

At least you were in Nigeria (?) when the ICPC's stubborn Boss was uprooted by Dame patience Jonathan and replaced by a worn-out woman who resume work daily by 2pm.

I'm not as interested in the EFCC mandate or what the law books say about them as I am interested in the fact that the President's influence or otherwise over them.

I though democracy was about the rule of law, No?

You said this earlier on:
enyojo:

A VIABLE OPPOSITION ENSURES A STABLE DEMOCRACY, A STRONG OPPOSITION BEGETS A STRONG DEMOCRACY
WITHOUT ANY APOLOGY TO ANYONE, I WILL REMAIN IN THE OPPOSITION UNTIL GEJ DELIVER ELECTRICITY, FIGHT CORRUPTION, AND BUILD INFRASTRUCTURE undecided undecided

How do you present yourself as a strong opposition and demand what is right if you are not willing to learn and understand the law? How do you use the law to your advantage then?

Or is it supposed to be "ANYTHING GOES" as long as your wish prevails?

Wizardofoz and millions of youths can remain GEJ staunch supporters even when he makes huge gaffles.

And how did you come to the conclusion that I am a "staunch" supporter of GEJ? I guess Gani Fawenhinmi was a "staunch" supporter of Ghali Na'aba when he accepted to represent him in court, even though Gani had earlier criticized and never stopped criticizing him

You see why it is very important you use your brain?

As for me and my house, all we know is that the PRESIDENCY IS NOT A PERSON BUT AN INSTITUTION!! If the present occupier drags the name of that institution into mud, we must salvage the institutioon to the detriment of the person

Have you heard of any Parliamentry Recklessness in Germany as it is globally heard of the Nigerian parliament? NO.

"Last summer, the current president of the German parliament, Norbert Lammert from the ruling CDU party, even made it clear that the parliament has no intention in tightening the paragraph dealing with bribery of parliamentarians.

Why are German parliamentarians hesitant? They fear investigations without prosecutions. Germany has a rather lax immunity law and a simple investigation can ruin political careers. “Why risk this?”, think many parliamentarians."

Does germany brings itself under servitude and fear of America as Nigerian presidents do? NO

What is your point? Are you insinuating that fighting corruption = bringing Nigeria under servitude? LOL

So you you don't need to expect the same dumb tactics used by our President to be used by other Presidents of sane economies

What tactics are you talking about?

Germany fighting corruption is fine, but it is evil if Nigerian presidents go after people that have looted and stolen from us?

Please, i am having problems following your train of thought, help me understand you better.

WIZARDOFOZ,
I am not saying BankOle is or is not guilty,

Well, the argument is not about that. The argument from start was about the timing and influence of GEJ in Bankole's arrest.

If you cant follow a simple arguement like this, well, i wonder how you get by every day. Are you a full time stay at home wife?

all I am saying is that Corruption is not athing to be attacked in suspicious manner as GEJ is handling it.

Why bring GEJ into the picture at all?

"1: (1) There is established a body to be known as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (in this Act referred to as “the Commission”) which shall be constituted in accordance with and shall have such functions as are conferred on it by this Act.
(2) The Commission -
Establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
a. shall be a body with perpetual succession and a common seal
b. may sue or be sued in its corporate name and may, for the purpose of its function Commission acquire, hold or dispose of property (whether movable or immovable);
c. is the designated Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Nigeria, which is charged with the responsibility of co-ordinating the various institutions involved in the fight against money laundering and enforcement of all laws dealing with economic and financial crimes in Nigeria"

The man is so much of a party man for him to take any action that will not be in the interest of PDP. It was just because this one will help give him a sort of 'letter of credence' to Obama that he had to out of severe unwillingnes order it.

I am not under any obigation to believe any of your delusions. Keep them locked in your head, else the rest of sane society treat you as though you were crazy.

Was he not the person who has slated BankOle as a Junior Minister to Foreign Affairs Minister Odein?

GEJ never made his list public. You must have some insider information the rest of us arent privy to. But going by your previous post, I have no doubt that this is just in your head. Your delusions, not reality.

See there are so many things that wwould not be made public. some of us who get those details on our own are considered as ANTI-JONATHAN.

Again, believe what you wish to believe. The point is that you are not arguing rationally.

BTW (I dont know what it means sha) A VIABLE OPPOSITION ENSURES A STABLE DEMOCRACY, A STRONG OPPOSITION BEGETS A STRONG DEMOCRACY
WITHOUT ANY APOLOGY TO ANYONE, I WILL REMAIN IN THE OPPOSITION UNTIL GEJ DELIVER ELECTRICITY, FIGHT CORRUPTION, AND BUILD INFRASTRUCTURE undecided undecided

Well, I admire your passion, but dont you think tou are  taking things too far? And probably affecting your sanity?

All these bumper stickers you are quoting have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY DID NOT FAIL YOU, YOU IT WAS WHO FAILED THE UNIVERSITY BY SIMPLY NOT USING YOUR LOGICAL AND ANALYTICAL MIND TO JUDGE ISSUE HAPPENING IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY!

LOOK AT THIS:
1. GEJ meets Obama this week

True. He is not the only one meeting Obama. Obama has a packed schedule this week meeting Angela Merkel on Tuesday, GEJ on Wednesday and another leader on Thursday. I assume Angela Merkel has ordered the Speaker of Germany arrested just so to please Obama?

2. GEJ orders IGP to withdraw bankole's security

And you know this because you eaves dropped on their conversation?

3. Bankole was arrested at the beginning of the week

There are seven days in the week, right?

You either arrest at the beginning or at the end or in mid-week. Simply stated, Bankole has a 33% odd of getting arrested at the beginning of the week. That is a huge odd. Why is that unusual? Because people arent supposed to be arrested in the beginning of the week? Is the beginning of the week supposed to be arrest free? Sacred? A national holiday?

What are you getting at here?

4. AT THE SAME TIME, DAVID MARK IS GUILTY OF THE SAME CRIME IN A GREATER DIMENSION YET NO ACTION TAKEN AGAINST HIM SINCE HE WON AND BANKOLE LOST.

This is about Bankole, why bring David Mark into this?

You are so smart. you must have schooled in Nigeria? No?

grin grin grin

Some persons are so daft that they base their Judgements on Sentiments. Do you think it was a coincidence that Bankole's arrest came on the heels of GEJ's meeting with Obama?

You are so right!

What was I thinking.

BTW, do you think it is mere coincidence that this guy cut his manhood on the heels of GEJ meeting Obama?

http://odili.net/news/source/2011/jun/5/321.html

It is funny how bizarre things happen just because GEJ is about to meet Obama, FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Haha, Since Bankole is not guilty, and Bankole never stole public funds, and he never diverted public money to his own private account, and he never confessed, publicly, to have stolen money, and he is well  liked by every Nigerian and he is just so innocent, it makes absolute sense to conclude that this is nothing more that witch-hunt.

What was I thinking?
