Who's a philosopher again? Please find the answer, and the word-usage, before arguing.

I am the Wizard of Oz, I dont argue.

To me, in the generic sense of it, yes, he is a Philosopher.

But as a purist, i regard philosophers as people who seek truth and deal with fundamental questions like, God, Mind, consciousness, etc

Awo's ideas werent fundamental to human existence. He was just ahead of his time. Thats it. His socialist agenda was formulated using the Russians' as a template. It wasnt mind shattering in any way.

Politics / Re: Awo Family Without An Awo By Sam Omatseye (The Offensive Article) by Wizardofoz: 5:20pm On Jun 10, 2011
naijaking1:

The author was almost correct in most of his points, except the one about HID.
His nice article simply detracted from the big picture by joining issues with the poor lady.
HID associated with the people mentioned (Daniel, Akala, and Oyinlola) by the aggrieved author, because they were simply governors of western states. He did not show any evidence that the lady is a PDP card carrying-member who was in charge of the western PDP strategic war room, assuming he believed that the PDP policy was inimical to the Yorubas.
Sam Omatseye's vituperations on HID is not only nauseating, repulsive, and a low blow, it must be condemned by all Nigerians--Igbos, Yorubas, and Hausas who know anything about Awo as a philosopher.

BTW, Awo is not a philosopher. A great thinker, YES. Well ahead of his time, Yes. A genius, Yes.

Calling him a philosopher would be pushing it.

Omatseye's article was more troubling looking at how he tried to discredit and humiliate HID. His reference to her son's death 40 yrs ago, casting aspersion at his credibility. Someone Wole Soyinka himself hold in high-esteem, describing himin his latest book, You Must Set Forth At Dawn, as a man with great potential.

Why attack a 96 yr old woman, for gods sake? But why?

Most of Omatseye's points were wrong and illogical.

For starters, we will never know which party Awo would have associated with, if he were alive. We will never know. After all, Ebenezer Babatope, Awos right hand man is in PDP. Bola Ige started off in PDP.

So let know one try to rewrite history or lay 'sole' claim to Awoism. Doing so would be tantamount to desecrating Awo's legacy.

one thing is for sure, Awo would never have condoned Tinubu's actions. Tolerate, yes. Associate?, Hellz NO.

Katsumoto:

You keep letting your hatred of Tinubu cloud your judgement.

I am the second person you would say that to on this thread already. My judgement is clouded just because I do not agree with you? Very profound!

And, No, I do not hate him. Though, I have always had my reservations since he was Governor of Lagos State; the many bill-boards juxtaposing his image with that of Awo and Ghandi, with the "great minds think alike" inscription, the many fights with his deputies, his questionable academic background, his blatant incompetence and superficiality, not minding his dirty antecedents and inclination to subvert the very democratic principles he claims to profess.

I just dont like how power hungry he is. Always putting his personal ambition above collective interest; yet, wanting to be validated as a bastion against all that ails our polity. Unlike Ghandi and Awo, BAT worships power and unearned influence,  that is where he taps real meaning in life.  Even after 8 yrs as Governor, he doesnt seem to have had enough, and going by what happened between him and fashola, and how he single-handedly replaced fashola's deputy, it doesnt look like he is going to quit his god-father role any time soon.

Just few days ago, he took credit for Tambuwals emergence as speaker, saying "that he personally instructed all ACN members to vote for Tambuwal and not to collect a kobo from any other candidate." This to me, amongst other absurdities, is gradual slippage into Fascism, replacing PDP for Emperor Tinubu. The nice thing about fascists is that they make things easy for you by 'personally instructing' you on what to do, what to eat, how to think, who to vote for and how to live your life.

You are not really putting forward any solutions. Are you suggesting that the SW should have stayed with PDP?

Meaning? that in your awesomeness and intellectual superiority, you have actually proffered solutions, since this thread is all about 'putting forward' solutions to the myriad of problems that ail us? And not about the obvious hypocrisy that saw Akume, who ruled Benue on PDP platform, emerging as ACN's minority leader in the Lower house. As if Akume's most basic orientation toward the world, his politics, and personality are now impeccable, now that he has joined ACN.

That said, please don't think that I'm trying to make you see things un-sentimentally, or that I'm saying you are supposed to think broadly and deeply, or that anyone for that matter expects you to just automatically see the obvious. Because it's hard.

Wizardofoz,

You sure do underestimate Tinunbu, don't you?

Tinunbu is.  Not so fooled to think that the SW view him as the new AWO, no, not ever. The SW is well aware of Tinunbu's shadiness, however, we understand that he is a necessary evil at this point. He is very clever and politically savvy. He meddles in the dirty water of politics just as is required in the forced marriage of Nigeria.

I can tell you now that Tinunbu is gunning for an CAN presidency but would not be myopic to put himself forward as a candidate. He would put forward someone whom he knows would do the job effectively and is well likeable but he would be the one pulling the strings. He knows fully well that he as a person, can not win the votes of the people - not in the SW and certainly not in the North.

The power is not in being the president but being the one who controls the president.

All the populace need to see is the masquerade but we know that it is the man behind the mask that performs the tricks.

How did you know this? Did Tinubu tell you that? I see,  someone else must have been controlling Tinubu when Tinubu nominated himself to be Buhari's VP.

What a brilliant insight.

I guess, the real power isnt the person using the newly acquired, now grounded, N7 Billion presidential jet day-in-day-out? The power isnt  with the person who lives in Aso-rock 24/7, with legion of aides and advisers .  By your logic, the person with the power isnt he with the C-in-C tag?

To you the power lies with the person who can only advise and offer suggestions, JUST LIKE ANYONE ON HIS 'FACEBOOK' PAGE?

Hey, Bimbo, here's something that's weird but true: in the day-to-day oceanic abyss of decision making in Asorock/FEC, there is actually no such thing as god-fatherism. There is no such thing as being controlled from outside . The president decides, and the power is with the PRESIDENT, not with some outside god-father.

what a question, overwhelmingly they are politically. Only Ondo state is using a different name, but i think for now, check out the body language and the actions.

Overwhelmingly
: adverb,  incapable of being resisted

I wish to suggest to you on this wet and irritating mid-west morning, that they are not. They do not speak for the SW and are not in any way representing the SW.

The ACN is, for all intents, the TINUBU show

And Tinubu's goal and agenda arent similar or congruent with the SW's.

I agree with you that the ACN did well/impressively in Lagos, but the same cant be said about the rest of the SW.They won Ogun, not because Amosun was popular, and definitely not because of Tinubu's political sagacity. The ACN won in Ogun, in part as a result of low turnout, because OGD deflected to PPN, splitting the votes multiple way in the process ( 52% ACN VS. 44.78% PDP & PPN). ACN got roughly half of the votes in Ogun; that my friend, isnt overwhelming support. We may never know how the result would have turned out if the election were fair, rancor free, and devoid of money, intimidation & voter enticement. What happened in Ogun can be liken to Bush V. Gore, where the evangelicals came out en masse for Bush. Meaning, ACN's core supporters came out to vote en masse.  ACN did not convert anyone to their side. Their victory in Ogun was circumstantial, not strategical.

Same thing in Oyo state. The emergence of Accord took votes away from the PDP. Here also, ACN did not win new voters, and obviously ACN did not win by an unassailable margin; ( 37.41% ACN VS. 58.92% Accord & PDP). Despite ACN's unrelenting propaganda against Akala, the many lies and the baseless accusations of incompetence and brazen effrontery, he got as much votes as ACN. The difference in number is well within margin for human error. Simply stated, the election was a dead 'draw' in Oyo

In Osun State, dont be fooled, ACN isnt that popular. For starters, it is well known and well documented that Oyinlola won the first election, and if a more credible election were to be held today, I make bold to state that PDP will give ACN a run for their money and  would win, depending on who they present. My point is that, in Osun state, there isnt any blind allegiance to ACN.  The same thing in EKiti.

Ondo State: ACN doesnt even exist here

Besides Lagos, ACN isnt that strong in the SW. And again, ACN's showing in Lagos was for Fashola, not for ACN's superior ideology. Its merely a personality vote. A Funsho Williams on the PDP ticket would have changed the dynamics of the election and would have impacted the result in ways we can only imagine. And as a matter of fact, save for massive rigging in 2003, courtesy of Tinubu's street smarts, thuggery background and connection, Funsho Williams on PDP's platform would have been the party in power.  He scored 725, 000 votes against Tinubu's questionable 911, 000

The point is that, with the amount of money Fashola controls ( e.g =N=15 billion monthly from the Federal Purse in addition to its =N=16 billion internally generated revenue mostly from cooperate tax, up from mere N600 million in the late 90s/early 20s), anyone, and I mean ANYONE, would have done just as well, if not more, since 1/8 of the IGR goes to Tinubu's ABC as 'consultancy fee'. My point: What ACN/fashola did in Lagos isnt special and anyone,  PDP, APGA or otherwise, would have performed jsut as impressive. it is not an endorsement of ACN by Lagosians and it would be ridiculous and premature for anyone to misinterpret it as such.

How a less than impressive turnout in the rest of the SW, going by their circumstial 50% in Ogun, 30% in Oyo, 20% in Ondo, 30-35% in Osun and 30-40% in Ekiti, = Overwhelming support/political capital is just beyond me.

It is a win - win move for ACN because they knew that the electorates do not want OBJ back in the SW, which is also good for them because they don't need the PDP SW stifling their progress so, not voting Tawakalitu was not only strategic but it makes them shine as a non tribal party in the eyes of the Northerners ("won n da omi siwaju ki won baa le te ile tutu"wink. This way the SW has disqualified the SE from any future presidential race because those who voted CPC already see the SE that brought in the "infidel" and they would want absolutly nothing to do with them.

We all know that the Hausa man, once he can trust you, he will remain loyal to you so, by A.C.N sacrificing their own for the North, the north have seen an ally. Tinunbu will be hoping that Buhari doesn't run, come 2015 and CPC fields a not-so_strong candidate and that would help the SW clinch the PDP and CPC votes because PDP should have imploded by then.

Basically, GEJ has provided an avenue for ACN to grow by killing zoning and the ACN are doing their darnest to keep it that way. With merit, the SE would not even feature on the ballot papers, let alone be voted for because they have showed all their hands even before the real game began. You should watch

Politics / Yoruba Leaders Rally Round HID Awolowo by Wizardofoz: 7:04am On Jun 09, 2011
Prominent Yoruba leaders yesterday rose in defence of the family of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing the attack on Mama HID Awolowo as uncalled for. The leaders spoke with one voice: No one will be allowed to discredit Awolowo’s family.  A columnist with a piece entitled: “Awo family without an Awo” published on Monday in a Lagos-based newspaper had made disparaging comments on the family of Chief Awolowo, especially accusing the matriarch of the family of hobnobbing with political office holders and that the “so-called real Awolowos who bear his surname cannot come up for mention. They are Awolowos but not Awoists. They stabbed their father in the back. They have committed ideological parricide.” The columnist also made reference to his past write-up where he said “this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Nigerian Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.”

But Yoruba leaders including Pa Reuben Fasoranti, leader of Afenifere; Dr. Frederick Fasehun of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC); Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Senator Femi Okunrounmu and Gani Adams, who spoke with National Mirror yesterday, said the attack on the matriarch of Awolowo family is uncharitable. The leader of the pan- Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Fasoranti said Awolowo family doesn’t deserve condemnation given his contribution to the development of Nigeria. Fasoranti said the ridiculing of the family was in bad taste. He said: “The family doesn’t deserve condemnation for all Papa did for this country; his contributions and forthrightness. He is a singular example of what governance should be. He deserved to be revered not condemnation. “The article was written in bad taste, very unfair to the family. In the first place, the woman is still morning the death of her daughter, they shouldn’t have added to her sorrow.

And most of the things said about the Awolowo family are not true. The comments are very unfair. With what Awolowo had done for the Yoruba race and Nigeria at large, his family doesn’t deserve such condemnation; very biting and ridicule.” The Yoruba leader called for the retraction of the offensive article. “Mama has reacted and the person who wrote that piece should get the message and retract the article or apologise. I think the family should take it up. The paper shouldn’t have gone all out to paint the family in ridicule,” he said. Founder of the OPC, Fasehun, said that nobody can successfully discredit the Awolowo family. “I’m surprise by the outbursts. In any case nobody can discredit the Awolowos not to the Yoruba people; they can do it in any other nation.

I don’t think the Awolowos can be discredited in Nigeria. I repeat; nobody can discredit that family successfully in Nigeria. The family has not done anything to warrant such criticism,” Fasehun told National Mirror. Adebanjo, a known disciple of Awolowo, said that the Yoruba race will not watch anybody to rubbish the heritage of the late sage. His words: “Yoruba will not watch and allow anybody to rubbish the name of Awolowo. It is wrong for someone to be rubbishing the name of Awolowo. A true Awoist will never support anybody rubbishing the name Awolowo after they have mounted on the heritage of Awolowo. “It was in bad taste. If he has any criticism of members of the family, that is not the language to put it. The Awolowo family has not done anything to warrant such condemnation.

To say that Chief Awolowo would have divorced his wife if he were to be alive is uncalled for. This is someone that has just lost her daughter less than two months ago. What they are trying to do is to rubbish the name of Awolowo and I think the owner of the paper should call the writer to order. This is not the first time he is writing that kind of article.” Adebanjo said he is not averse to anyone criticising Awolowo or any member of his family, but such should be done with civility. According to him, “I’m not saying they shouldn’t criticise Awolowo family if there is anything wrong they felt they have done, I’m saying the way it has been done and the reason given is condemnable. That does not show he is an Awoist. If you are a supporter of Awo and you see anything wrong, you point it out not that you condemn his heritage. “Awolowo himself was not infallible; when he was alive we do agree and disagree, but not to insult and condemn him.

It shows some prejudices of some hidden agenda. It shows from the language of the owners of the newspaper that they want to rubbish Awolowo when they have not done one per cent of what he did and they are already equating themselves to Awolowo. That shows the emptiness of their proposition.” The Afenifere chieftain described many of those calling themselves disciples of awolowo as fake Awoists. “Some of these people that are parading themselves as Awoists are fake Awoists. I’m a creation of Awolowo. For them to condemn the whole family and say that there is nobody from the family that is behaving like Awo, that shows their hidden agenda. The owner of the paper is expected to call them to order,” Adebanjo told National Mirror. The Secretary General of Afenifere and one of the promoters of the Yoruba Unity Forum(YUF), Senator Femi Okunrounmu, said those behind the plot to demystify the Awolowo family will fail.

“Only a deranged man would want to condemn Awolowo family under the circumstance the writer did. I don’t see what offence the Awolowo family has committed; Mama HID Awolowo is a mother figure for all Nigerians to an extent that he cannot be partisan. Every political party go to her residence to pay homage,” he said. The Afenifere scribe said Mama Awolowo has not devalued herself except the writer who is doing a hatchet job for a very ambitious politician, who thinks money can buy everything. “Can you imagine a sane person writing that if Awolowo were to be alive, he would have divorced his wife? How can you be saying such of someone that is 95? Fortunately for them, they are fighting a war they cannot win. Their problem is that Awolowo’s name has refused to die,” Okunrounmu told National Mirror.

Okunrounmu said the non-involvement of the Awolowo’s children in politics is not enough to chastise them. “In any case, the fact that they are not active politicians cannot be used against them,” he said. The President of OPC, Otunba Gani Adams warned that Yoruba will resist any attempt to denigrate the Awolowo family, insisting that Mama Awolowo has not gone beyond her boundary to warrant such tirades. Adams said: “This attack is uncalled for. It is sad. I think somebody sent him to do that job. The name of Awolowo is too powerful for anybody to confront. Awolowo stayed all his life without having any stain. He should be very careful because Yoruba will not forgive anybody that continued to damage the name of Awolowo family. We condemned what he wrote against Awolowo family. It is a slap on the Yoruba race and Yoruba should rise up and defend the legacy and family of Awolowo. “Anybody that writes anything against the family of Awolowo is an enemy of Yoruba. I think the publisher of the newspaper should warn him seriously. He should not do anything to affect the image of the great leader that is cherished like gold in Yorubaland. We condemned what he wrote against Awolowo family. It is a slap on the Yoruba race and Yoruba should rise up and defend the legacy and family of Awolowo.

Fashola administers a state; lagos state for that matter. Compare him with Jakande or any other governor of lagos state because there are indices that can support such comparisons. It would be unfair to compare him with Ajasin (different states and eras) and you can't compare him with Awo because Awo ruled the entire region. You can also compare Fashola with other present governors.

So looking back at past administrators that have ruled Lagos before now, Fashola has done exceedingly well. And, you said we cant compare his achievements to Ajasin's, "different states and eras." And that is because being a good administrator in one state doesnt necessarily mean he would be successful in another state, some 200 miles from him?

Does that mean that the set of skills needed to succeed in Lagos is different from what would be required of him in, say, Ondo state?

Did Ajasin and jakande not from the same "era?"

Eko Ile:

You must be a paid attack dog since you have no evidence to back up any of your silly claims. Abi why is it so hard for you to back up your accusations with facts?

I can not tell you OBJ stole money because I didn't see him do it and I have no proof to stand on in that regards and also, he's yet to be charged and convicted in any court of law

I can not tell you Tinubu stole money because I didn't see him do it and I have no proof to stand on in that regards and also, he's yet to be charged and convicted in any court of law

Making false claims and bearing false witness is what ignorant illiterates like you people do, not me.

Again, till you show us proof that Tinubu stole money, you remain the re.tarded ignorant rumor mongering market woman clown

Of course, IBB did not steal  money or did you see him steal money?

IBB did not kill Vatsa, since Eko ile did not see him do it

Sgt rogers did not kill Kudirat, since Eko ile did not see him pull the trigger

GEJ did not father his children, becase Eko ile wasnt there when GEJ was phocking madam GEJ

God did not create this world, since EKo ile did not help him shovel

Seun does not own NL, since Eko Ile was not there when he was writing the code for this forum

Hmmm, Eko Ile's logic, PRICELESS!

Tinubu cant stop lying.

What else is he lying about?

check this out:

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu never attended either the University of Chicago or the Chicago State University at anytime contrary to his claims. Neither did he obtain any B. Sc degree in Economics or Business Administration from any university. Indeed, he never qualified as a certified public accountant,” he said.

On Form CF 001 in 2003 , Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu claimed to have been born in Lagos on March 29, 1952 whilst by passport No. A158399 issued by the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 16th February 1988, he was entered to have been born on 29th March, 1954 in Iragbiji, a place in Osun State of Nigeria,” We gathered.

He said “records of the CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) in Nigeria confirms that as at 23rd July 2002, Bola Tinubu remains a director of Compass Finance and Investment Company Limited in addition to both Abiodun Agbele and Mueez Akande, identified as his long standing drug and money laundering associates in the Affidavit of Agent Kevin Moss

Pukkah:

I agree.

Very stoooooooopid and sheeepish of you to have agreed with something that is blatantly false.

Yoruba people are the most gullible people around. They rely more on group thinking and over reliance on one or more star powers.

Tinubu has imposed people time and again. And, time and again, his anointed proteges have won elections.

Use your brain, and stop agreeing with "conjectural" sentiments!

This has got to be the dum.best post ever. Why don't you tell us how hard it is to secure a loan in Nigeria or be part of a group of investors?

Well you tell me, since you know more than the rest of us.

So you are telling me that it is easy to secure a $300 Million loan? That you can just walk into bank and secure a $300 Million loan, having no track record whatsoever, besides having governed a state?
