Politics / Re: SSCE No Longer Feasible For Election Into Public Office - Gbajabiamila by Woodwind: 8:26am On Jan 18, 2022
A leader must be selfless, full of service, full of sacrifice and above all an undaunted and undoubtfull servant of his people. How can a degree certificate or other higher educational qualifications confers these qualities on our leaders or cures them of lack of these qualities. Passion or love is the major driving force in achieving these qualities but not educational qualifications situated in an educational system based primarily on how to earn a living.
If higher educational qualifications can prevent or cure most of our leadership inadequacies, there will have been less misappropriation and embezzlement of public resources in our dear country, because most those accused of engaging in this ignoble act are those degree certificates and other higher than qualifications.
Politics / Re: Electoral Bill: NASS Preventing Poor Nigerians From Politics - Jega by Woodwind: 7:37am On Jan 17, 2022
A spending limit stipulates the maximum that can be expended. It doesn't makes it mandatory that, that amount must be expended. Far less than that amount can be expended. What should be of concern to us is why do we spend so much in managing and prosecuting elections in Nigeria?
In every election circle,INEC incurred huge expenditure to procured electoral materials including the printing of ballot papers which cost more than the cost of printing the national currency . This is done in a. bid to stop the rigging machinations of our politicians seeking for political offices.
This can be regarded as normal in a clime where the occupation of public/political offices by almost all comers through politics are means of primitive accumulation of wealth. If the rewards inherent in occupying public/political offices are high , the stakes must be inevitably high, too.
This is the major cause behind the huge funds been splashed on elections both by the election management body and those contesting elections.
To address this issue, we must go back to the character of those who are seeking public offices through elections and whose primary desire is to enrich him or herself with the public resources at his or her disposal as much as possible. We must devise a way to put forward only those with sincere interest of serving the people, for electoral contests. For it is only those who are not seeking for the spoils of public offices that can restrain themselves from putting so much money in election and engaged in rigging and sabotaging elections.
Politics / Re: Reno Omokiri Attacks Follower Who Cautioned Him Against Ethnic Posts by Woodwind: 8:11am On Jan 15, 2022
It's high time we stop this limiting and unprogressive conversation on how relevant our ethnic groups or tribes are to our country.
Let's get it cleared, every ethnic group or tribe has one thing or the other to contribute to thie development of this country in as much as we are first ,individuals with unique talents before we are members of ethnic groupings.
What we must do if we really want to grow is to identify the strength of everybody and by extension every ethnic group and harness them to promote our growth and development.
Debates over who is more relevant, relevant or not relevant to our welbeing can only promote disunity which will further limit and underdevelop us
Politics / Re: Nigeria To Pay More For Petrol Subsidy As Oil Price Hits $85 Per Barrel by Woodwind: 9:48am On Jan 13, 2022
We will continue to pay higher subsidies for petrol on the side of government and higher prices on the side of the people as long as we base our domestic price on the international market price instead of the local cost of production.
I can tell us for free that even if all the refineries (both government owned and the proposed private ones) are working at full capacity the downward change in price would be very little perhaps due to the exclusion of freight related cost
Crude oil is the most outrageously priced commodity on planet earth because its price is not based on the cost production but on some extraneous factors such as polical instability and natural disasters in oil bearing areas which could be real, imagined or speculative. We are told by the NNPC that the minimum cost of producing a barrel of crude in Nigeria is $17 as at 2020 and effort is being made to bring it to. $10 I don't know if that has been achieved.
If Government is willing to sell to local refiners at a price slightly above the cost
of production, there is no doubt that this recurring issue of higher subsidies or prices that always accompanied higher international market price Will be eliminated. Government can as a policy cause some local firms to produce crude for domestic consumption as distinct from the one for international market which is based on the quota allocated to her. Converting vehicles to use CNG will only bring temporary relief as sooner or later we are bound to go back to the subsidy issue when the international market price begins to look up as the demand for gas increases exponentially.
Politics / Re: My Incoming President. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. PIC. by Woodwind: 7:08am On Jan 12, 2022
Ethnicity, religion, sex and age must not! be used to determine who governs Nigeria. We should be concerned with the capacities and fervent desires and intensions of those who are presenting themselves for the job to outrightly develop the country and her people. We must consciously ask ourselves what have they done with the previous positions they held or occupied? Did they used it to developed the space and its people or themselves.
If we are really enlightened, we should know as at now that a society cannot be greater or lesser than the dreams and visions of its leaders and its people.
The tall altruistic ambition of a leader and his people and his ability to develop and harness the available human resources to achieve this ambition is sine qua non to the development of any society. The emergence of such leaders can never be promoted by ethnicity, religion, age or sex.
Politics / Re: There'll Be No Election If You Fail To Release Kanu In 2022 - Ohaneze To Buhari by Woodwind: 10:18pm On Jan 02, 2022
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, you must pride your self as the apex organization of one of the most advanced ethnic group in Africa and stop this unnecessary threat and arrogance.
Do you have the wherewithal to carry out your threats if your demands are not met by the Nigerian state without bringing untold mysteries upon your already self marginalized people? What made you think your ethnic group is the only one that can liberate Nigeria from her predicament? Have you liberated the people in the space currently occupied by you? I hope you won't tell us that the Nigerian federalism stopped you from doing so.
These infantile threat and messianic postures are eroding what ever respect and sympathy you may be drawing from the Nigerian public.
Enough of these threats and arrogance, please

Politics / Re: Nairaland Says No To Secessionists by Woodwind: 1:21pm On Jan 02, 2022
Our problem is not Nigeria but we the elements in the space who are prepared to trample underfoot all rules of human decency including creating mysteries for our fellow beings to achieve our selfish desires.
If your space or your people are underdeveloped or marginalized, it is because your leaders does not desired your development and well-being but only that of their own. That's why they live large while majority of the people live in penury.
I am a Niger Deltan and I am aware of the huge resources the so called oil producing areas always received from the oil firms through their leaders but have nothing to show for it except the massive properties acquired by their so called leaders with these resources which has been cornered by them.
I am very sure such examples abound all over the country including the south east.
Every Igboman must ask himself why the south East, inspite of the strategic positions occupied by her indigenes in the immediate GEJ 's administration, they could not experience reasonable infrastructural development. It all boils down to the leaders short changing their people.
So, instead of thinking of how to break away from Nigeria, they should be thinking of how to break from projecting and supporting self serving leaders.
