The United States doesn't need Taiwan in order to strike China because the warheads America has in Japan, SK...can strike China with precision. May war never break out between the US and China.

Most of the U.S military bases in Japan and South Korea will be bombed even before u.s mobilizes major weaponry there. Most of China’s missiles are facing there.

However allowing U.S in Taiwan is moving the geometry from east to south. It gives China another problem of having to defend that axis.
That’s why China is claiming islands on south China seas.
