University can be an escape from the clutches of your mum and dad’s over-the-top parenting. All of a sudden you are unleashed into the world of freedom and independence. Another thing you will escape from is, of course, their purse and wallets. Below is a list of the best paying student jobs to help keep your head above water and carry on your questionable instant-noodle-consumption! Education This area of work is often missed out by students, especially if they are looking for part time work. However, there are plenty of online tutoring opportunities, which do not require any formal qualifications! Pay: £10 - £50 per hour Where: Online tutoring can take place anywhere, all you need is an internet connection, laptop or computer and a functioning brain and hey presto - you can work! Why: Great pay, convenient and ideal for any student who needs to manage their time effectively with work and studying. Best for: Students with the ability to demonstrate their knowledge. No need to worry, this is not limited to the worldwide feared, algebra. Instead, students can teach anything from guitar lessons to history! Student Ambassador Looking for a fun part time job? Become a student ambassador at your university and you will soon find out it is an easy way to earn money and gain valuable experience. What a golden combo. Pay: £7.80 + Where: Evidently, this takes place at your university or college. The role will see you working on open days and induction, in addition to any special events taking place in between. So you can still roll out of bed 5 minutes before and still turn up to work on time (not recommended). Why: Work with good friends, the hours are relaxed and not every weekend will require your presence. Therefore, no sacrifices will have to be made to your studies. Many parents will rely on ambassadors to provide honest information, so make sure you know the best places to grab a cheap pint! Best for: students who enjoy university culture and takes pride in acting as a role model. If you are looking for internships or placement in your third year, this is a great part time job to have to make your application stand out! Hospitality Work behind the bar or at outstanding venues and experience something new every shift. Hospitality work is becoming increasingly popular as a well-paid student job. Check it out below. Pay: £10 per hour (London) Where: The wage is taken from London roles and this can fluctuate across cities, however, it is one of more higher paid student jobs! Recently, students have had the opportunity to work at Twickenham Stadium, London Fashion Show and even Buckingham Palace - quite fancy, hey! Why: if you are a student who grows bored of standing behind the till then this is for you. There is no denying the job can be physically demanding, but oh boy, you will have so much fun! Best for: Students with plenty of energy, stamina and charisma. Night owls are perfectly suited for this role, and with many companies offering their employees to choose the hours they work, it ties in nicely with your lectures and deadlines. Customer Service Maybe you are not a student who grows tired standing behind a till - which is fine! But with multi-retailers such as Lidl and Aldi offering versatile roles, a job in customer service may not be such a bad option at all… Pay: £8.75 - £10.85 per hour (depending on location and London weighting) Where: Customer assistance roles are everywhere! The above pay is based on Lidl Customer Assistance roles and subsequently have become very popular with students! Best for: It is important to note that companies such as Lidl and Aldi offer fantastic placement and graduate schemes, so gently place your foot in the door and who knows, maybe you will be driving around a company car! Noice. Social Care In particular, being a care worker is not only a high paid student position but also highly rewarding. Offer your help and services to the elderly and vulnerable and create some special, memorable friendships. Pay: £8.75 + Where: Similarly to customer service roles, these are nationwide. With the ageing population, no doubt these roles will also be in continuous demand. Why: This will certainly provide a challenge, but with many workers in the field saying they gain so much satisfaction from their role, it is no wonder more students are applying for similar positions. It can significantly boost your CV too. Develop an array of skills and be more prepared than Lara Croft embarking on our next adventure. Best for: Due to the highly physical nature and long working hours it is best for students who are studying a part time course or those are not completely swamped with contact time at university. Also, if you wish to go ascend up the social care career ladder, there is no better place to start! www.worldjobtrends.com |

Career / How To Take Control Of Your Job Search by Worldtrends: 6:36am On Jan 13, 2019 |
We’re raised to be polite, kind, considerate and respectful of our elders and authority figures. These are fine qualities to have, but there’s a fine line where these positive traits result in your being taken advantage of. Your kind nature will, at times, be perceived as weakness by some—and they will not reward it. When it comes to interviewing, this happens all the time. Here is what you need to do to take back control. When a recruiter or human resources representative from a company contacts you about a job, you don’t have to be passive and pliant. If you are interested in the role, feel free to tell them so, but don’t just send your résumé and hope for the best. Ask the person how much they are offering for the job. Inquire about the level, corporate title and the reason that it’s open. Push for more color and details surrounding the opportunity. This is critical information to know before you embark upon a three-to six-month lengthy interview process. If the person gives you push back or tries to skirt around the questions, recognize it as a warning sign. An insider’s tip from me is that many recruiters call about job offerings and lack the basic fundamental knowledge about the position and only care about putting bodies in front of the company. If you feel this is the case, there is no reason to embarrass the person. Be polite, firm and let them know that you are interested and that they will need to gather more intelligence around the job and get back to you. Before you go on an interview, make sure that you ascertain the time frame they have to hire. Is it two weeks or six months? Demand that you get the names and titles of the interviewers and the reason why they are part of the process. Ask your recruiter to get color on these people. I recognize that this sounds almost rude as I’m writing it. So, when you say these things, do it in a friendly manner. It is possible to be both kind and assertive. For instance: “Ms. Recruiter, I really appreciate that you thought of me for this role. I’m extremely interested in the company and the opportunity. To do my best in the interview, it would be helpful to have the names of the people, their titles and why they are involved with the process. Also, if you have had any prior experience with any of them, please share your thoughts. As you know, the more I know, the better I can prepare, excel in the interview process and increase my chances in getting the job. Since you are compensated if I get placed, you will benefit as well. Even if I don’t get the job, but do well, it will make you look good as you provided a motivated candidate that did her homework and research and they’ll certainly use you again for future assignments.” In many states, there is a new law that forbids companies from asking about a candidate’s current salary. Other states that don’t have the law in place yet tend to follow this trend as well. Although this is the law, companies will still try to weasel the information out of you. Turn the tables around and push to find out how much they are paying for the position. If you have the experience and know that you can do the job, but are earning far less, why shouldn’t you get the higher rate of pay? If they dance around the subject say,“This sounds like a fantastic job that I am very qualified for. According to your job listing, I possess all the requirements—and then some. understand that the interview process would require many people at your company taking time out of their important schedules to meet with me. To be fair to you and your employees, it would seem reasonable to share the salary range with me so that we don’t go throughout the entire process and end up far apart with respect to compensation and then it doesn’t work out. So, to save everyone’s time and effort, could you please share your best understanding of the salary range for this job?” You need to to ask hard-hitting questions to uncover any issues or potential problems that they are trying to hide from you. Be bold and ask the tough questions in the interview: “What exactly will I be doing in the role? Who will I report into? Why is this job open? How come the job has been open for so long? Why did the last person leave? Where do you envision the job going to? What type of career progression will the job have?” Don’t be intimidated into accepting a compensation offer that you’re not comfortable with. If you feel that the salary is lower than you feel you deserve, it’s perfectly acceptable to negotiate. It is appropriate to say, “Thank you for the offer, I really liked everyone I met with. My background is perfect for the role and it looks like I can add value to your team and grow within the organization. The salary seems lower than I expected and less than what I’ve seen with other companies I met with. Also, I’m sure my company would easily match it and try to make me stay. That said, I really do want to make this work! If you can raise the salary to X, I’d accept (use a number that is higher than you want, so there is further room for negotiations). Could you please check with the appropriate people and get back to me? Also, I am close with another offer, but prefer your company and this job. Thank you so much for this opportunity! I am confident that we can both make this work.” You can handle other matters that arise in a similar fashion. Think of this as a tennis match. The company hits a volley to you, then you hit the ball harder and more strategically back to them. They lob it, but then you strike back with force and confidence. You don’t have to walk off the court and throw the racket when things get tough. Just outplay, outhustle and out smart them, all the while killing them with kindness. WWW.WORLDJOBTRENDS.COM 1 Like |

Career / How To Avoid Investing In Office Gossip by Worldtrends: 9:03am On Jan 08, 2019 |
A wise person once said great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people. If people are often the object of negative discussion in your workplace, it has become infested with productivity-sapping gossip. Research from CareerBuilder found 42 percent of employers ranked gossip as the second highest time-waster behind cell phone use and texting. Investing in office gossip provides the diminishing returns of workplace dissension and a climate of distrust. It degrades the gossiper, who is taken less seriously or viewed as divisive, and the object of the gossip, whose professional or personal reputation is being assaulted. Gossip can break the spirit of employees, alienating them from their colleagues, eroding their morale and undermining them in the eyes of their supervisors. The energy spent extinguishing rumors can be better spent meeting workplace goals. Participating in gossip may seem like fun until you consider the obvious: where gossip flourishes, no one is immune to being a target. Not even you. You can take simple steps to stem the flow of negative gossip in your workplace. Keep it positive When someone tries to spread toxic gossip about a colleague, play the contrarian by citing an example of that individual’s assets and achievements. Negative gossip needs a receptive host and cannot spread amid affirmation. Spreading positive gossip short-circuits negative energy and helps create a supportive environment. Change the subject Remember the mantra about great minds. Focus on ideas and innovation and the challenges at hand. If you see a gossip circle up ahead, move along—nothing to see there. If you find yourself in the company of gossipers, a well-placed compliment—who can resist one?—can derail the negative train. Without preaching or judgment, make it clear you’re too busy to revel in rumors. Lead by example If you’re a manager, avoid partaking of the negative gossip mill. Accentuating the positive, avoiding favoritism and providing honest and constructive criticism are effective ways to nurture an environment of trust and professionalism. Open dialogue and mutual respect between manager and workers can be as contagious as gossip. Value collegiality Treat your coworkers the way you’d want to be treated. Don’t be swayed by negative gossip. Draw your own conclusions about a colleague’s worth and character. You may learn to value their contributions, or even come to rely on them. Rather than backbiting, the best teams watch each other’s back. Loose lips sink careers At least one study has shown individuals who spread negative gossip most are liked less and perceived as less powerful than those who gossiped less. Negative gossip tarnishes the vessel that carries it, undermining the gossiper as much as the object of their dirt dishing. Stop spreading the news It has been said gossip dies at a wise individual’s ears. Be that wise man or wise woman. Make a commitment to stop negative gossip at the one source you can control: yourself. Negative gossip is the enemy of a cohesive workplace. Where office gossip is concerned, it’s best to follow the old bromide: if it’s not your business, don’t spread it. Source WWW.WORLDJOBTRENDS.COM Always Visit For Job Trends |

Career / Difference Between A Resume And A Cover Letter by Worldtrends: 7:16am On Jan 06, 2019 |
What's the difference between a resume and a cover letter? Both a cover letter and a resume share the common purpose of proving that you have the right skills to excel at the job for which you are applying. However, there are clear distinctions between the structure and intent of the two documents. Job seekers should view their cover letter and resume as a complementary but unique pair of documents. That is, your cover letter should be more than just bullet points regurgitated from the resume. Many employers require that a resume is submitted with a job application. A cover letter may not be required. But, including one when you apply for a job can help your chances of getting selected for an interview. The Difference Between a Resume and a Cover Letter You can think of your resume as a general summary of your work experience and your cover letter as a summary of your work experience as it relates to the job at hand. A resume is a document that itemizes your employment history. It summarizes the jobs you have held, the education you have attained, certifications, skills, and other quantifiable information about your background and work experience. The most common resume format is a list with your contact information, an experience section that includes job titles, position descriptions, dates of employment, an education section, and other relevant information. Typically, a resume is written in the third person and uses as few words as possible to summarize the experience. So, instead of writing "I supervised the large buying team at XYZ company" a resume would have a bullet point that says, "Supervised 19-person buying team." Whenever possible, you'll want to use numbers on your resume, such as the number of people you supervised, percent sales increased, the number of customers helped, etc. A cover letter is written to highlight the qualifications you have for the job for which you are applying. It is used to provide the employer with additional information as to why you are a good candidate for the job. The main function of your cover letter is to show off how your qualification makes you a match for the job. A cover letter is written in a letter format including a salutation, several paragraphs, and a closing. Unlike a resume, you should use the first-person to write your cover letter. (That said, avoid using "I" too much.) What a Resume Includes Your resume should provide employers with a detailed list of your work experience and education. The skills and accomplishments associated with each job you have held should be described in enough detail to show employers how you have added value in those specific roles. Often, resumes provide information in bulleted lists; this helps make the document concise and allows recruiters to scan through it quickly. What a Cover Letter Includes A cover letter is a short three or four paragraph document. It should be written with the assumption that employers will consult your resume to match it to the statement you are making in the letter about your qualifications. A cover letter will help employers to interpret your background as represented on the resume and will help prove how your previous experiences qualify you for a job. When you are writing a cover letter for a job, first review the job requirements that are detailed in the job posting. Use your cover letter to explain how you meet those criteria. Use a Cover Letter to Convey Subjective Information A resume states the facts – who, what, when, and how. In contrast, a cover letter provides an opportunity to explain why you are qualified for the job. This document adds a bit of color and personality and is intended to persuade employers that you're a good fit for the position at hand. A cover letter is a better vehicle than a resume to convey more subjective information like the basis of your interest in a position, how your values motivate you to pursue a job, or why the culture of a company appeals to you. Your cover letters will help you sell your qualifications to prospective employers while your resume provides the details to back up the information included in your letters. WWW.WORLDJOBTRENDS.COM |

Career / Things You Are Doing Wrong In Your Job Search by Worldtrends: 12:35pm On Dec 29, 2018 |
Stepping into the New Year often means new opportunities and new chapters. But, if you’ve spent the last few months attempting to secure a new position without any success, you may want to slow your roll before you add “Get new job” to your New Year’s resolution list. Without properly reflecting on what went wrong, you risk making the same mistakes in the new year and seeing little progress. Plus, after individually speaking to more than 150 young professionals ready to make a change in their careers, I’ve noticed common errors, bad habits and mental blocks that I’m sure are probably holding you back from getting the interviews and job offers you truly want, too. If you’re ready to make the new year you’re best year yet, it might be best to leave these mistakes in 2018: Applying to positions you don’t absolutely love. Only applying to positions where you meet 100% of the qualifications and not going after other roles because you’re missing 1-2 requirements. Only applying to positions where you meet 100% of the qualifications and not going after other roles because you’re missing 1-2 requirements. Sending applications through online portals. Applying to companies using the same boring resume every time Sending the same cover letter to every company, tweaking a few words and sentences here and there. Being so desperate for a new position that you don’t take the time to consider exactly what you’d like to do in your next role. Not recognizing when you need expert guidance from a career coach to get faster results in your career and job search. Asking distant contacts to put in a good word for you at their companies. Asking contacts you hardly know to send your resume to their boss on your behalf. Telling your network that you’re looking for new opportunities without specifically letting them know what you’d like to do next. Not following-up with your network after meet-ups and conversations, and not circling back after they’ve given you advice or next steps. Letting fear of rejection stop you from reaching out to people you don’t know, who you’d love to meet and learn from. Using “I don’t know what I want to do next” as an excuse to not take any action in your job hunt when you know deep down that you’re just scared to do what you really want to do next. Letting fear of failure and fear of uncertainty stop you from taking action in your career and job hunt. Settling in your current position even though you’re bored, uninspired and frustrated and know there’s no room for career growth. Being afraid to leave your position in fear that you’ll look like a job hopper for not staying there for at least 2 years. Not going after a more senior-level role even though you’re qualified and ready for it. Allowing imposter syndrome to stop you from applying for roles in a new industry. Kind of, sort of looking for new positions and not being 100% committed to finding a new role, at a new company. Seeing yourself as someone a company should take a chance on, instead of recognizing the unique and specific value you bring to the positions you desire. Assuming because you landed an interview you will also get the job and not adequately preparing to stand out in the interview. Struggling with common interview questions like “Tell me about yourself?” And, “What’s your greatest weakness?” Answering salary questions during interviews the wrong way, keeping you from bigger salary increases. Assuming a thank you note doesn’t matter and not going the extra mile to send one after an interview. Not following-up with hiring managers after interviews and not reminding them of your value and enthusiasm for the role and company. Avoiding negotiating salary like the plague, in order not to rock the boat with your new company. If you know you’re qualified for the roles you want, with the experience to match, there’s no reason why you should be settling for less or missing out on positions and opportunities that would be perfect for you. It’s time to identify which mistakes are holding you back so you can finally have a new job and career that makes you excited to wake up on Monday mornings. www.worldjobtrends.coml |
Career / Resume Pages: Here's The Science by Worldtrends: 9:56am On Dec 29, 2018 |
Conventional wisdom says that compacting your professional experience into a one-page CV is ideal But new research from ResumeGo has blown this out of the water: Recruiters are actually nearly 2.3 times more likely to prefer two-page resumes over one-page resumes. In fact, the more senior the vacant position, the more that recruiters seemed to prefer two-pagers. Hiring professionals were 1.4 times more likely to consider two-page resumes for entry-level roles, 2.6 times more likely to mid-level roles, and 2.9 times more likely to look at two-page resumes for managerial-level roles. While the overwhelming majority of career experts argue that a two-page resume should never be used unless a job seeker has many years of full-time work experience at multiple companies, our results contradict this piece of conventional wisdom,” said ResumeGo co-founder Peter Yang. “Study participants were clearly impressed by the sheer amount of information that can be conveyed on two-page resumes, as our one-page and two-page resumes were designed to showcase similar levels of work experience, academic achievement, and overall credentials.” Two-page resumes do the job better Study participants were asked to score resumes from 0 to 10 based on how well the resume summarized the candidate’s work experience and credentials. Again, two-page resumes performed 21 per cent better, scoring an average of 8.6 while one-pagers received a score of 7.1. “These results indicate that the extra information contained on two-page resumes helped participants in their decision-making and cast a positive light on the job candidates – even when it came to entry-level job openings, though to a lesser degree,” Yang said Recruiters spend longer reading longer resumes The study also revealed that hiring managers spent nearly two times longer looking at two-page resumes. It’s also shown the belief that recruiters spending only a few seconds on each resume is a myth: on average, study participants spent 2 minutes and 24 seconds on one-page resumes and nearly twice as long – 4 minutes and 5 seconds – on two-page resumes “These results show that recruiters do indeed spend more time reviewing lengthier resumes instead of simply skimming over the content, which might help explain why two-page resumes are usually preferred over one-page... Career / Why Christmas Is A Great Time To Get A New Job by Worldtrends: 3:55am On Dec 25, 2018 |
Job hunting over the festive season reaps rewards. The Christmas and New Year period is a great time to plan for the future , develop your skills and look for a new job. The approach of the festive season brings out two types of candidates: one who will wait until the New Year to start their search, and one who will jump right in and start looking now, says Eliza Kirkby, regional director at Hays. After all, employers know the skills they need for the New Year, says Kirkby, and want them to start in early January. With many Aussies waiting until after Christmas to start their job search and commit to their resolution of finding a new job, those who get in early stand out in a smaller candidate pool. There are plenty of other good reasons to start now instead of waiting until the New Year. You have time to think. Life in the 21st century is busy. So after you’ve indulged in Christmas parties and taken time off with loved ones, set yourself a job hunt agenda. Sometimes it seems like finding a new job takes forever, and you can start to feel hopeless. Do you feel like your job search is off to a slow start or getting stuck? If so, read on for help getting unstuck. Here are some quick time-saving job search tips that will help your hunt for a new job go smoothly. Be Prepared Have a voice mail system in place and sign-up for a professional sounding email address. Consider getting a separate email account to use for your job search, so you can stay organized, and check it often. Put your cell phone number on your resume so you can follow up in a timely manner. Be More Than Prepared Always have an up-to-date resume ready to send – even if you’re not currently looking for work. You never know when an opportunity that’s just too good to pass up might come along. If you're not on LinkedIn yet, create a LinkedIn Profile and start making connections with people who can help your job search. Don't Wait to File for Unemployment If you’ve been laid-off, file for unemployment benefits right away to tide you over until you get a new job. You’ll most likely be able to file online or by phone. Waiting could delay your benefits check, so look into it right away. Get Help Without Spending Extra Cash Utilize free or inexpensive services that provide career counseling and job search assistance such as college career offices, state Department of Labor offices, or your local public library. Many libraries provide workshops, programs, classes, computers, and printers, as well as other resources that will help you with your job search. Create Your Own Templates Have copies of your resume and cover letter ready to edit. That way you can change the content to match the requirements of any job you want to apply for, but, the contact information and your opening and closing paragraphs won't need to be changed. Microsoft Word users can download free templates for resumes, cover letters and email messages which can be personalized for your own correspondence. Review Correspondence Examples and Samples Even if you’re a good writer, it's always a good idea to look at sample letters and resumes to get ideas for your own job search materials. Take a look at this collection of resume, cv, and letter samples to tailor your correspondence materials to your needs. Use Job Search Engines Search the job search engines to find potential openings. Use the job search engine sites to search the major job boards, company sites, associations, and other sites with job postings for you – fast. You’ll be able to search all the jobs posted online in one step. You can also use Advanced Search options to find jobs that are the closest match. Get Job Opening Notifications by Email Let the jobs come to you. Use job alerts to sign up for job listings by email. All the major job sites have search agents and some websites and apps specialize in sending announcements. You can choose to get updates every day or less often if you prefer. Time Savers Strapped for time? Consider getting professional help writing or editing your resume. You’ll spend a bit of money for these services, but that’s going to worth the professional results. Have Your References Ready Have a list of three references including name, job title, company, phone number, and email address ready to give to interviewers. Print a copy of your reference list and bring it with you to interviews. Use Your Network Be cognizant of the fact that many, if not most, job openings aren't advertised. Tell everyone you know that you are looking for work. Ask if they can help. Be appreciative of any help they give you, even if it doesn’t result in a job. You never know, they may find something for you later on. Get Social Utilizing social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter can be a good way to get job listings before they are listed elsewhere. Plus, you can promote your candidacy using the social media tools that are readily available for free for job seekers. Companies are increasingly using social media for recruiting, so be ready. Here's how to get started with social networking. This tip isn't exactly a time saver, but, it will broaden your online job search resources. Save Your Money Paying for premium job listings may seem like a good strategy. However, before you spend your money, carefully research the site, what it offers, and how it can add value to your job search. Carefully check out the site to see what you're getting for your money. Read the fine print – some of these sites only let you cancel over the phone and charge you for a full month, regardless of when you cancel. www.worldjobtrends.com |
