APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR NIGERIAN NAVY 2019 RECRUITMENT EXERCISE



1. Applicants must be a Nigerian by birth.



2. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 22 years at the time of entry into the Training school for school certificate holders or 24 – 26 years of age for those with higher qualifications such as Nurses, NCE and ICT etc.



3. Applicants must not be married or have children before joining the NN.



4. Applicants must be free from any previous criminal conviction by a court of law.



5.  Applicants with any of the following problems are NOT to apply: sight problem, ear problem, communicable diseases, mental problems, below the height     of 1.70 metres for males and 1.67 metres for females, stammering, or any physical disability.



6. Applicants are required to possess any of the following educational and/Professional qualifications.



a. West African School Certificate/Senior Secondary School Certificate.
b. General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (not more than 2 sittings).

c. National Examination Council (NECO).
d. National Business and Technical Examinations (NABTEB).

e. WAEC City and Guilds or London City and Guild.
f. Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
g. Any other educational qualification equivalent to those mentioned above.
h. All applicants must produce their primary school leaving certificate.

7.  Applicants with higher educational/professional qualification, i.e. HND, BA/BSC etc other than those stated in paragraph 1 (a-g) are not to apply. Applicants are warned that it is an offence to present false or forged documents for the Recruitment.



8.  Certificates or qualifications not declared or tendered and accepted during the recruitment exercise is not acceptable after recruitment and cannot be tendered for the purpose of change of department or advancement while in the Nigerian Navy. 11. Applicants will be required to produce original of all copies of credentials listed in paragraph 10 at any time during recruitment.



12. Completed Application Form is to be submitted online.



13. Any applicant suspected to have impersonated, falsified, forged or presented false document(s) shall be disqualified from the recruitment exercise and handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for prosecution.

A4 – Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Avionics & Aircraft Electrics, Electrical / Electronics)

 

Certificate/Diploma in Aircraft Electrics & Avionics recognized by ICAO and 5 credits at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Maths, Physics and Chemistry.



A5 – Hull Engineer Artificers

We’re raised to be polite, kind, considerate and respectful of our elders and authority figures. These are fine qualities to have, but there’s a fine line where these positive traits result in your being taken advantage of. Your kind nature will, at times, be perceived as weakness by some—and they will not reward it. When it comes to interviewing, this happens all the time. Here is what you need to do to take back control.

When a recruiter or human resources representative from a company contacts you about a job, you don’t have to be passive and pliant. If you are interested in the role, feel free to tell them so, but don’t just send your résumé and hope for the best. Ask the person how much they are offering for the job. Inquire about the level, corporate title and the reason that it’s open. Push for more color and details surrounding the opportunity. This is critical information to know before you embark upon a three-to six-month lengthy interview process. If the person gives you push back or tries to skirt around the questions, recognize it as a warning sign. An insider’s tip from me is that many recruiters call about job offerings and lack the basic fundamental knowledge about the position and only care about putting bodies in front of the company. If you feel this is the case, there is no reason to embarrass the person. Be polite, firm and let them know that you are interested and that they will need to gather more intelligence around the job and get back to you.

Before you go on an interview, make sure that you ascertain the time frame they have to hire. Is it two weeks or six months? Demand that you get the names and titles of the interviewers and the reason why they are part of the process. Ask your recruiter to get color on these people. I recognize that this sounds almost rude as I’m writing it. So, when you say these things, do it in a friendly manner. It is possible to be both kind and assertive.

For instance:

“Ms. Recruiter, I really appreciate that you thought of me for this role. I’m extremely interested in the company and the opportunity. To do my best in the interview, it would be helpful to have the names of the people, their titles and why they are involved with the process.

If they dance around the subject say,“This sounds like a fantastic job that I am very qualified for. According to your job listing, I possess all the requirements—and then some. understand that the interview process would require many people at your company taking time out of their important schedules to meet with me. To be fair to you and your employees, it would seem reasonable to share the salary range with me so that we don’t go throughout the entire process and end up far apart with respect to compensation and then it doesn’t work out. So, to save everyone’s time and effort, could you please share your best understanding of the salary range for this job?”

You need to to ask hard-hitting questions to uncover any issues or potential problems that they are trying to hide from you. Be bold and ask the tough questions in the interview: “What exactly will I be doing in the role? Who will I report into? Why is this job open? How come the job has been open for so long? Why did the last person leave? Where do you envision the job going to? What type of career progression will the job have?”

Don’t be intimidated into accepting a compensation offer that you’re not comfortable with. If you feel that the salary is lower than you feel you deserve, it’s perfectly acceptable to negotiate.

It is appropriate to say, “Thank you for the offer, I really liked everyone I met with. My background is perfect for the role and it looks like I can add value to your team and grow within the organization. The salary seems lower than I expected and less than what I’ve seen with other companies I met with. Also, I’m sure my company would easily match it and try to make me stay. That said, I really do want to make this work! If you can raise the salary to X, I’d accept (use a number that is higher than you want, so there is further room for negotiations). Could you please check with the appropriate people and get back to me? Also, I am close with another offer, but prefer your company and this job. Thank you so much for this opportunity! I am confident that we can both make this work.”

Stepping into the New Year often means new opportunities and new chapters. But, if you’ve spent the last few months attempting to secure a new position without any success, you may want to slow your roll before you add “Get new job” to your New Year’s resolution list.

Without properly reflecting on what went wrong, you risk making the same mistakes in the new year and seeing little progress.

Plus, after individually speaking to more than 150 young professionals ready to make a change in their careers, I’ve noticed common errors, bad habits and mental blocks that I’m sure are probably holding you back from getting the interviews and job offers you truly want, too.

If you’re ready to make the new year you’re best year yet, it might be best to leave these mistakes in 2018:

Applying to positions you don’t absolutely love.
Only applying to positions where you meet 100% of the qualifications and not going after other roles because you’re missing 1-2 requirements.

Sending applications through online portals.
Applying to companies using the same boring resume every time
Sending the same cover letter to every company, tweaking a few words and sentences here and there.

Conventional wisdom says that compacting your professional experience into a one-page CV is ideal

But new research from ResumeGo has blown this out of the water: Recruiters are actually nearly 2.3 times more likely to prefer two-page resumes over one-page resumes.

In fact, the more senior the vacant position, the more that recruiters seemed to prefer two-pagers.

Hiring professionals were 1.4 times more likely to consider two-page resumes for entry-level roles, 2.6 times more likely to mid-level roles, and 2.9 times more likely to look at two-page resumes for managerial-level roles.

While the overwhelming majority of career experts argue that a two-page resume should never be used unless a job seeker has many years of full-time work experience at multiple companies, our results contradict this piece of conventional wisdom,” said ResumeGo co-founder Peter Yang.

“Study participants were clearly impressed by the sheer amount of information that can be conveyed on two-page resumes, as our one-page and two-page resumes were designed to showcase similar levels of work experience, academic achievement, and overall credentials.”

Two-page resumes do the job better
Study participants were asked to score resumes from 0 to 10 based on how well the resume summarized the candidate’s work experience and credentials.

Again, two-page resumes performed 21 per cent better, scoring an average of 8.6 while one-pagers received a score of 7.1.

“These results indicate that the extra information contained on two-page resumes helped participants in their decision-making and cast a positive light on the job candidates – even when it came to entry-level job openings, though to a lesser degree,” Yang said

Recruiters spend longer reading longer resumes
The study also revealed that hiring managers spent nearly two times longer looking at two-page resumes.

It’s also shown the belief that recruiters spending only a few seconds on each resume is a myth: on average, study participants spent 2 minutes and 24 seconds on one-page resumes and nearly twice as long – 4 minutes and 5 seconds – on two-page resumes
