Sports / More Light On The New Solar Powered Football Stadium by XavierBlue(m): 9:53pm On Dec 11, 2015
After seeing the latest news regarding the solar powered field in Lagos, I decided googling to decipher it use and significance. And for those who asked for it use. I don't know if they are making references to the field, light or stadium. But Here is what Wikipedia has to say.
Energy Efficient Stadiums is the latest trend
of environmentalism in sports . Many
stadiums are beginning to take measures to
become more environmentally friendly and
energy efficient , such as using solar energy
to power the stadiums and using reusable
raw materials. The first stadium successfully
built to use 100 percent solar power is the
Kaohsiung National Stadium in Kaohsiung,
Taiwan . It earned the nickname of the
'dragon' stadium. Completed in 2009, the
55,000 capacity stadium was built for the
World Games , which took place in July 2009.
After the conclusion of the World Games, the
stadium will be used mainly for rugby games
and other athletic events. Japanese
architect Toyo Ito designed the stadium
which incorporates 8,844 solar panels on
the roof. These solar panels provide enough
energy to power the 3,300 lights and two
giant television screens. The stadium
provides so much power, and not all of it is
needed to power the stadium. The
Taiwanese government plans to sell the
excess energy. The stadium will prevent 660
tons of carbon dioxide from being released.
Not only is the Kaohsiung National Stadium
100 percent solar powered, but all of the raw
materials used in the stadium are reusable.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_Powered_Stadiums

This means that the facility in Lagos will provide for it daily and annually resources, and if built to the capacity in Taiwan, the excess energy-ectricity, obtained might be given out to the neighboring area.

Politics / Govt Investigating Dokpesi For Another N8b Fraud Allegation- The Nation by XavierBlue(m): 10:06am On Dec 11, 2015

The Federal Government is investigating
businessman Raymond Dokpesi for his
alleged involvement in another fraud
involving about N8billion, the government’s
lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), yesterday told
a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Jacobs said the Federal Government was
about rounding off investigations into a
fresh allegation of N8.4billion the AIT/
Raypower emeritus chairman collected from
the Goodluck Jonathan administration for
airing the FIFA U17 championship which
Nigeria hosted in January 27,2012.
He said though the airing right was granted
his company, DAAR Communication, by
FIFA and without the Federal Government
as a party to the contract, Dokpesi allegedly
collected N8b from the government for the
execution of the contract.
Jacobs was arguing the government’s
counter-affidavit against Dokpesi’s bail
application.
Dokpesi was arraigned with his company,
Daar Investment and Holding Company
Limited, on Wednesday on a six-count
charge. He was accused of unlawfully
receiving N2.1billion from former National
Security Adviser (NSA), Mohammed Sambo
Dasuki.
He pleaded not guilty and applied for bail.
Parties argued the bail application and the
prosecution’s counter affidavit yesterday.
Jacobs, urging the court to reject Dokpesi’s
application, argued that a bail to Dokpesi
will prejudice investigation into the N8b
allegation.
He urged the court to take a judicial look at
the government’s affidavit evidence, which
indicated that no contract paper was
exchanged by Dokpesi and any agent of the
government when the N2.1b was paid to
him.
Jacobs faulted Dokpesi’s claim of ill-health,
noting that not only did he fail to disclose
the nature of his illness, the letter of
appointment with the physicians exhibited
by Dokpesi was sent on December 5 when
Dokpesi was already in the custody of the
EFCC.
Jacobs, who is the lead prosecution lawyer
in Dokpesi’s trial, said it would be
dangerous to admit Dokpesi to bail
because, going by the charges, he risked a
jail term of seven years upon conviction
and, as such, may decide to flee the country
if allowed to go on bail.
Earlier, while arguing the bail application,
Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN),
stated that the offences for which his client
was standing trial were bailable because
they are not capital offences.
He said Dokpesi had not in any way
contributed to any act of insurgency and
that he would not jump bail when granted.
Ozekhome also told the court that his client
was billed to travel abroad for a medical
check-up when he got a telephone call
inviting him orally to the EFCC and that
without any hesitation, Dokpesi honoured
the invitation as a law abiding citizen.
He also told the court that Dokpesi’s son’s
wedding had been fixed for 17 and 19 of
this month, he has invited prominent
Nigerians and, as such, he would be around
at all times to stand trial.
Ozekhome also submitted that Section 36 of
the 1999 Constitution presumes his client
innocent until the contrary has been proved
by the prosecution.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole, after listening to
both lawyers, said he needed time to
consider their arguments and processes
filed.
He adjourned till December 14 for ruling and
ordered that Dokpesi be remanded in the
custody of the EFCC.

Politics / Uproar As Governor Bans Prayers In Schools by XavierBlue(m): 11:49am On Oct 30, 2015
Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade has
ordered that no public or private primary and
secondary school in the state should hold
morning or afternoon prayers.

Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade
Governor Ayade in a letter signed by Mrs
Anne O. Odey, the permanent secretary, state
Ministry of Education, dated Wednesday,
October 21, said the suspension of prayers
will subsist till further notice, Daily Trust
reports.
The governor also ordered that all teachers
with effect from next year must be in suits
during official hours.

The directive which was sent to all zonal
heads in the state said: “The ministry hereby
directs all public and private primary and
secondary schools across the state to
suspend all assemblies (morning and
afternoon) till further notice.”

All school heads were directed to comply
strictly or risk sanctions.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in
reaction to the new development, signed by
Archbishop J. E. Ukpo, the state chairman and
Apostle Iwara Oleh Obeten, the state secretary
said such directive was completely
unacceptable.

The christian group said the order would
negatively affect the upbringing of children and
urged the state government to immediately
withdraw the directive.

Meanwhile the Cross River state governor has
praised President Muhammadu Buhari
describing him as a “humble president”.
The politician stated this when he spoke with
the state house journalists after his meeting
with the country leader in Aso Rock. Ayade
spoke about his negative attitude towards
privatization calling it an “unacceptable”
exercise.

Politics / APC Up To Mischief- Dickson by XavierBlue(m): 7:24am On Oct 29, 2015
THE Bayelsa State Government has denied claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it was planning to raise fresh loan, which it said was meant to prosecute the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Bayelsa State governorA statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the purported claim of a fresh loan was misplaced and a clear mischief on the part of the opposition party in the state.
According to him, rather than looking for a new loan, the Bayelsa State Government was only drawing from an existing loan facility that had since been approved for the airport project it said was at 60 per cent level of completion.

He said it was unfortunate that the Sylva campaignwas raising the issue of loan, saying the APC candidate and his campaign officials should be ashamed of their past in this regard. While praising Governor Dickson over prudent management of resources, which it said had made it possible for the State to witness the huge infrastructure and other development projects in the last three and half years, the statement slammed Sylva for plunging the state into huge debts running into N432 billion, under his watch as governor.

The statement said Sylva’s profligacy as governor ranked Bayelsa State as one of the most indebted states in Nigeria, but now reversed under the Dickson administration, which had since serviced the debt to a manageable level of N90 billion naira and thereby making the state now one of the least indebted states in the country.“Under Sylva, there was routine diversion of funds meant for payment of civil servants’ salaries and benefits.

A whopping N300 billion agric loan from the World Bank had no tangible effect in the state. Where were the projects established or farms set up or the fisheries development as proposed under the loan?“What happened to the N3 billion MDG funds made available to Sylva? It is unfortunate that Sylva left alegacy of a crippling debt profile in Bayelsa State as governor. As a matter of fact, the bond obligation of the state totaled N125 billion under his watch,” he said.
