Politics / Buhari Orders IG On Immediate Release Of Falae- Vanguard by XavierBlue(m): 2:33pm On Sep 23, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to take all necessary actions to ensure safe and speedy rescue of Chief Olu Falae who was abducted from his farm on Monday.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in a statement today, said the president’s directive was sequel to a briefing on the incident.

Adesina said President Buhari condemned “the callous and reprehensible” kidnapping of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and elder statesman.

He quoted the president as assuring Falae’s family, friends and other concerned Nigerians that the Federal Government would do all within its powers to ensure his swift release.

The presidential spokesman said Buhari had requested constant updates from the police and security agencies on efforts to find and rescue Chief Falae.

According to Adesina, President Buhari also denounces the recurring incidents of criminal abductions across the country.
He said President Buhari assured all Nigerians that ongoing efforts to significantly enhance the security of lives and property in the country would continue apace.

The presidential aide said Buhari also assured that under his leadership, Nigerians, irrespective of their status, would no longer be left at the mercy of criminal elements.

Politics / Bayelsa Will Not Access Bail Out Fund- Gov. Dickson by XavierBlue(m): 2:39pm On Sep 22, 2015
Bayelsa government says it will not draw its share of the N222 billion approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for states to clear outstanding workers’ salaries. CBN has approved N12.85 billion for the state. Nineteen states have so far drawn from the funds that have a 20-year tenure.

But the Bayelsa government, in a statement signed by Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa Governor, said Gov. Dickson was not ready to enslave future generation of Bayelsa people to a debt burden.

“I do not want to commit the state to unnecessary borrowing and mortgage their future because I love my people; I love my state.

“I am not like others who will go and take facilities and loans and do not care what happens to the people; that is why we have not signed on the bailout funds because I am not satisfied that we will not be mortgaging the future of our people.” “I am not like that; I care about what happens to this state, even after my tenure.” Dickson said.

Dickson similarly explained that his administration was reluctant to employ more people, in order not to increase the wage bill. The governor explained that the delay in the payment of salaries of civil servants was due to the delay in the Federal Allocation Accounts Committee (FAAC) meeting.

According to him, the state government depends solely on revenue from the federation account to pay the wages of workers and any delay in the monthly FAAC meeting will definitely affect the payment of salaries. Dickson said that the country was currently grappling with an economic downturn, and explained that the state had managed to stay afloat.

He said that the government’s prudence in the management of its scarce resources was responsible for the state not owing its workers. Dickson further stressed that the economic situation had compelled government to commit all the available funds to salary payment.

He said that projects and other development activities had been put on hold as a result of funding challenges, stating that some contractors in the state were being owed up to N15 million. The governor called for understanding and patience from the people, stressing that his administration was only averse to mortgaging the future and was not prepared to commit the people to unnecessary credit facilities.

“It is a general challenge we are all facing; even at the federal level, the country is in a very serious situation. “Banks are laying off people; companies are doing the same, but our state will not lay off people
“We are not owing the workers and we are managing to pay salaries, even at the expense of my own allowances and those of others around. “For months, those around me have been making sacrifices; in fact, most of these sacrifices people do not know,” Dickson said

Politics / Ministerial Slot: I Am Not In A Rush To Go Into Government - Utomi by XavierBlue(m): 10:53am On Sep 21, 2015
Prof Patrick Okedinachi Utomi, has said that he is not in a hurry to go into government saying he can only do that when he is certain of such government and his role in it.

Utomi stated this in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Lagos while reacting to the news that his name was among those pencilled down by President Muhammadu Buhari for consideration and ratification as minister.

According to the erudite Professor, a worthy son of Delta State,“I am reading it as you have read it in the papers.

“My position is that citizenship has its obligations and duties.
‘Through the years, I have been a very passionate voice for change in the country. And it is purely based on principles, patriotic sense of where the country should be heading to.

“Over the years, I have also had some invitations to serve in public lives. I have served in government long ago. One of the things that it did for me, fortunately, I was very young, I am good.

I could pick up something quickly and store them. And one of the decisions I made from that brief excursion into public life was that I should never allow myself to be in public life if I don’t have a sense that there will be enough of a critical mass to make the kind of difference that I believe in.
Because of that, on a number of occasions, when I have been either invited or whatever, I have been very careful and honest with those who invited me to say that I am not in a rush to go into government.

“And that I can go into government only when I have certain sense for the nature of that government and my role in it and the clarity of the goal that government would be pursuing.
This has earned me pressure of different kinds from friends who think I am not acting normal to those who appreciate the principle that I have adopted in business of considering public life.”

He however, expressed satisfaction that Nigerians as a people have the sense that the time for change has come and grabbed it.

“That is the most gratifying part for me. Many think that I represent that whole thing and think that I should work in that kind of environment. But honestly, it doesn’t make any difference to me inside or outside; I will support anything that will move the country forward in the direction of change.

I take same attitude to the business of positioning government. It doesn’t make difference to me if I am serving outside or within, I will do what I have to do or need to do.”

On the 100 days in office of Buhari and other governors, Utomi said, “I watched all the 100 days business; promises made and not made. It is irrelevant now whether promises were made or not. The important things are that there is enough to say that we have moved significantly from where we were before now.”
Utomi stated that anyone who had not observed that was been insincere. “Some people are not feeling comfortable with power supply because it is too available.

Now, when you call the DISCOs and they responded, the question from many now, is this Nigeria.?
Improving power supply is enough for any administration to focus on because entrepreneurship will bloom. To have made the kind of leap in supply, it is an achievement.”

While lamenting the increasing sense of impunity, Utomi said that was really the issue for him. “At the time when many believed nothing could be done to correct the impunity in the country.
But after the administration decided to write the wrong, we could all see the debate it generated. And that showed that something was wrong in the country.”

On Federal Government recent crusade against Boko Haram insurgents, Utomi, said. “I am not a security expert. I cannot say we are winning the war or not. All I can say is that I see purpose and I hope that the purpose delivers the desired outcome. “

Politics / PDP Accusations, Nothing But An irritant- APC by XavierBlue(m): 7:39am On Sep 21, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the rash of wild accusations against the APC-led Federal Government has confirmed its earlier statement that the PDP has perfected plans to distract the Buhari Administration from its onerous task of reviving the country’s
fortunes.

”The PDP is wondering why we are not responding to the wild accusations emanating from their fertile imagination. It is because we consider the accusations nothing but an irritant,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

It said there is no doubt that in issuing his bombastic statements, the PDP spokesman most often mistakes the APC for his party, hence he keeps attributing to the APC the failings of his own party, the same failings that have propelled the former ruling party into the opposition.

”Mr. Metuh wrote that ‘this administration must come to terms with the fact that democracy requires accountability, adherence to the rule of law and constitutional order’. Very interesting, because if the PDP had known all that, it would still have remained in power at the centre.

”It is therefore clear that the PDP spokesman has been so traumatized by the defeat of his party that he sometimes imagines he is writing about the APC when indeed he is listing the failings of his fallen party, the PDP,” APC said.
On a personal note, the party challenged Mr. Metuh to substantiate the claim in his Sunday statement about contracts allegedly awarded to the APC National Spokesman or be ready to do so in court.

”For the avoidance of any doubt, the APC spokesman has never been involved in any airport fencing contract in Osun or any deal involving fraudulent purchase or supply of ambulances anywhere in Nigeria,” it said.

APC insisted that Mr. Metuh is mortally afraid that he could be consumed by the ongoing anti-corruption battle, because of the allegations of graft hanging on his neck, as contained in published petitions to the anti-graft agencies from within his own party, rather than mere conjecture from anyone

”Mr. Metuh’s assault on the Buhari Administration’s anti-corruption battle is a futile attempt at saving his own neck and that of his party. Unfortunately, it is too late in the day for them, going by the quantum of allegations against them,” the party said.

Politics / Top Most Active Nigerian Politicians On Social Media by XavierBlue(m): 11:28pm On Sep 18, 2015
The Nigerian political class is gradually embracing social media as a valuable tool to reach out to members of the public.
Social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Goggle + have been used frequently by politicians to keep the public abreast of all their activities.

While some politicians are still reluctant on channeling their energy towards the use of social media, others are actively using it to engage and reach out to their followers, admirers and indeed, Nigerians.

Naij.com has been monitoring the activities of politicians on social media, and now bring to you five of them that are actively using the various mediums frequently and effectively.

Read below:

1. Governor Nasir El Rufai:
Those who know the diminutive governor very well, knows that he has been very active on social media even before he became the governor of Kaduna state. As an opposition leader, he was a thorn in the flesh for the government of the day as his stinging criticisms were frequently countered from various government offices. Expectedly, his tone has now changed, as his focus is now to inform Kaduna citizens and indeed Nigerians on his activities and policies as the state’s chief executive.

2. Senator Bukola Saraki:
The senate president, just like El Rufai, was every active on social media before he became Nigeria’s number three citizen. As a senator and chairman of the senate committee on environment in the 7th senate, Saraki was always updating Nigerians on the activities of the committee, their legislative backing to government policies and his own contributions to the upper chamber during plenary. As the senate present, it is only natural that his social media pages will be more active and indeed they are.

3. Senator Dino Melaye:
He is one of the most popular senators in Nigeria. And his activities on social media helped him to attain popularity among Nigerians. Interestingly, one consistent feature of his social media pages, is the fact that he usually use the mediums to pray for his followers especially on Sundays, bringing him applause and admiration from many Nigerians. Melaye is also very engaging, as his stand on various national discourse are always from an interesting angle.

4. Senator Ben Murray-Bruce:
A very consistent contributor to Nigeria’s political discourse, Bruce has gotten to a point where many of his followers always look forward to his own stand when a major issue comes up in the polity, before they comment on the issue. His thought-provoking ideas and creative suggestions are monitored by many newsrooms in the country, because his views always start a debate among Nigerians. Class!

5. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode:
It will be a political suicide to preside over Nigeria’s mega city and not be active on social media. The governor’s media team is definitely aware of this fact and they have ensured that the governor’s activities are well documented via his social media pages. To show that he is being monitored closely, a recent issue that embarrased the governor’s media team came to light, when his Instagram page handler failed to acknowledge Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo. Trust Lagosians to point out the error, after which it was rectified.

Worthy Mentions

1. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila (Majority Leader, House of Representatives)

2. President Muhammadu Buhari

3. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

4. Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state

Romance / Re: Whats Your ZODIAC SIGN? by XavierBlue(m): 6:17pm On Sep 15, 2015
EggovinMma:

Taurus - The Bull
April 20 - May 20
Your element: Earth
Your ruling planets: Venus
Symbol: The Bull
Your stone: Emerald
Life Pursuit: Emotional and financial security

Vibration: Determined energy

Taurus Secret Desire: To have a secure, happy and wealthy life/marriage.

Underneath their cool, calm and collected exterior, Taureans differ greatly from all the other signs of the zodiac. Taureans manage to discreetly stay apart from the crowd, even though they have a well-earned reputation for being socialisers. They will let others get close, but only so close as they want them. Some claim that trying to get your point across to a Taurean, should they not want to hear you, is rather similar to talking to the trees they simply won't budge. And, there is no such thing as an open-book Taurean. Their feelings, fears and desires often run far deeper than anyone around them would guess. Like the butterfly that chooses to remain hidden in its cocoon until it is ready and prepared to emerge, so the true Taurean spirit remains hidden behind a veneer of day-to-day activities. That's why Taureans are sometimes regarded as snobby, withdrawn, boring, or even sulky.

The truth is, when Taureans manage to operate very adequately on their own form of automatic pilot, they can switch off from the world around them very efficiently. And when they do switch off, they are actually gathering in their inner reserves to deal with the outside pressures. This sign is also very closely connected to 'feeling good'. Most Taureans like their creature comforts and hate change because it takes them out of their automatic pilot condition of separating themselves from the world around them.

Because they hate to be put in jeopardy of any kind, this is the sign that strives to create tomorrow in advance, rather than leave it to fate. In love, Taureans are regarded as extremely sensual beings. An earth sign, they deal well with the personal, physical senses and consequently all the pleasures associated with what they can see, touch, smell and taste, add up to a special delight to them. Often nature and pet lovers, Taureans are closely associated with all things off the earth and nature.

Politics / Re: Under Buhari, APC, Nigeria Heading To Economic Doldrums- PDP by XavierBlue(m): 7:01am On Sep 15, 2015
“The PDP believes that in the interest of millions of Nigerians citizens who look up to the political class for direction, it is now imperative on the APC-led federal government to pay deserving attention to the economy and continue the policy of the past administration of opening the space for harnessing indigenous potentials.

“Finally, we wish to reassure that the PDP, as a responsible party, will remain committed to providing credible and robust alternatives and views to government policies and programmes, in the general interest and wellbeing of the Nigerian people.”

PDP’s strategy is to distract the Buhari Administration with jejune statements – APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the PDP’s rambling statement on the nation’s economy as part of the opposition’s ploy to distract the Buhari Administration from its onerous task of putting the nation on a sound footing.

In a statement issued in Lagoson Mondayby its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP’s statement was a litany of delusional self praise, rather than a genuine concern about the nation’s well being.

”The question the PDP should ask itself is that if it had laid a solid foundation for the economy in its 16 years in charge, could such a foundation have given way in just three months of a new Administration?

”If the PDP had been as fantastic as its statement had portrayed, it would still be the ruling, rather than the opposition party that it is now.

”It is therefore important for the PDP to concentrate its attention on remaking its tattered image rather than continuing to act as a desperate attention-seeking opposition,” he said

Politics / Under Buhari, APC, Nigeria Heading To Economic Doldrums- PDP by XavierBlue(m): 6:59am On Sep 15, 2015
ABUJA – NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has again taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress, APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the economy has remained on rapid fall since the last four months.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) reacting described the PDP’s rambling statement on the nation’s economy as part of the opposition’s ploy to distract the Buhari Administration from its onerous task of putting the nation on a sound footing.

The PDP in a statementMondayby PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the nation’s economy has remained so because of what the PDP described as absence of clear-cut fiscal policy direction and an economic team to deal with the domestic and global challenges associated with a developing economy.

According to PDP, the President Mohammadu Buhari-led APC administration should pay urgent attention to the management of the nation’s economy, adding that he should sustain existing economic projects.

Metuh noted that the party’s worry stems from the fact that the economy has remained on rapid fall since the last four months apparently due to the absence of clear-cut fiscal policy direction and an economic team to deal with the domestic and global challenges associated with a developing economy.

Metuh said: “whereas the PDP is in full support of the President’s efforts in tackling corruption and insurgency, the party is however concerned about the grave economic situation we now face, as well as indices from global economic watchers, which this administration has failed to give deserving attention, despite its predictable negative impact.

“As a responsible party, it is duty-bound, beyond politics, to draw the President’s attention to the fact that under the prevailing circumstances, the nation is evidently heading to economic doldrums.

“Mr. President, this is no longer about politics and partisanship. It is about the economy of our dear nation and the wellbeing of the Nigerian citizens.

“Recall that we have severally in the past, drawn attention to official reports showing that the unemployment situation in the country as well as inflation rate are growing at frightening dimensions, not to talk of the continued decline in domestic and direct foreign investments, all due to uncertainty created by the lack of economic direction of APC-led administration.

“The situation has become even of utmost concern following the failure of this administration to articulate any interventionist policy at this critical moment, when credible global economic monitors have continued to predict that oil price may fall as low as $20 per barrel.

“It is worrisome that whilst other countries are taking deliberate steps to enhance their investment profiles and hedge their economies at this time, the APC-led federal government has done nothing in that direction, but has centered on partisan politics and witch-hunt of perceived opponents, while the economy remains vulnerable and unattended to.

“We caution strongly that this approach to governance is not healthy for our nation. Indeed, the time has come for Mr. President to end the apparent lethargy in his administration and take urgent step to set up a crack economic team of experts to immediately swing into action and salvage the situation by opening up all economic outlets, which have been stagnated in the last four months.

“In managing this economy at this time, we urge Mr. President, as the father of the nation, to look beyond partisan politics and ensure that the policy frameworks and populist economic projects laid by the PDP administration, especially in the non-oil sectors are not allowed to rot, but adequately utilized for the good of all.

“In this regard therefore, we wish to draw attention to various agricultural projects and programmes established by the PDP, especially in the northern states, such as various dams and irrigation projects, the e-wallet financial empowerment system to farmers, associated to the over 2 million direct farm jobs, as well as the Green Belt project under Presidential Initiative on Afforestation in Kano and 10 other northern states, all in line with PDP’s agenda to return the region as the food basket of the nation.

Celebrities / Precious Eke: I Cant Go With Pant And Bra On Set by XavierBlue(m): 5:11pm On Sep 14, 2015
Even as a greenhorn, Precious Chukwu Eke’s stint as an actress still dazzles. The budding actress has cautioned producers who would approach her with scripts that may want her going nude or topless while on a movie set. Precious who is fondly called Orange Berry, made this known in a chat withHVP, after the conclusion of the production of the movie, “My Neighbor’s Wife”, in Owerri. She played the role of Suzan in the movie.

Describing her role as “ challenging,” she said , “It’s so hectic because I saw myself doing a role that is not part of me. It’s not in any way known to be my kind of person, as it involves the character Suzan who happens to be a player.

“I really love the character even with its challenge. I would want to play it over and over again, because it brought out the best in me. And guess what? It was a wrap for me, as my best was offered,” she said.

The movie with the working title, “My Neighbor’s Wife”, and produced by Kingsley Okereke of the Divine Touch Productions received laudable praises from Precious who rated it as a big budget movie.”

On her stance for a nude role, she stressed that her colour makes it impossible for her to wear revealing clothes on set. “Will I even say that I have a busty look that can’t fit such wears? But the truth remains that I can’t go with pant and bra on set.”

Directed by Reginald Ebere, the movie starred the likes of Uche Ogbodo, Vitalis Ndubuisi, Andy Ike, Mimi Orjiekwe, Nina Bolanle, Shirley Igwe, Charles Billion, Osita Dike (Egbeigwe-Apama), Chinenye Uyanna, Adaeze Eluke among others

Politics / Okorocha Is A Mole In APC- Ikechukwu by XavierBlue(m): 9:14am On Sep 14, 2015
ENUGU – Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress,APC, South-East geopolitical zone, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has dismissed the statement by Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha that Ndigbo were responsible for their exclusion in appointments made by President Muhamadu Buhari.

Okechukwu was reacting to an interview granted to a national daily by Okorocha, published on yesterday.

In the interview, Okorocha said he shared the sentiments of the Igbo that none of them made the list of appointees.

The Imo Governor however added that “some of the appointments we lost was of the doings of our people,” just as he recalled that when he crying like a lonely voice in the wilderness that look at where Nigeria was going, Ndigbo chose to put all their eggs in one basket.

But, in a statement on Sunday, Okechukwu said Okorocha should take responsibility for Igbo exclusion in the appointments, rather than passing the buck to Ndigbo.

In a statement was titled, ‘Governor Rochas Okorocha neither truly campaigned for President Buhari nor APC’ Okechukwu stated: “I am sorry to comment on the blame game being played by, Owelle Rochas Okorocha; for his interview can be classified as Okorocha Recue Mission from the less than five percent score in the 2015 presidential election from the entire South East.

“All one can say is that to the best of my knowledge, he neither truly campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari nor the All Progressives Congress.

“My thinking is that while we blame Ndigbo for putting all our eggs in one basket, we should blame our leaders who genuinely didn’t campaign for President Buhari nor APC candidates in their domain.

“I challenge Governor Okorocha to tell the world how far he assisted Senator Osita Izunaso for his bid for Orlu senatorial district, his own constituency and that of Hons Uche Onyeguocha and Uwajimogu of Owerri and Okigwe districts respectively” Okechukwu stated.

While noting that a little assistance from Governor Okorocha could have earned APC two senatorial seats, and other legislative seats, Okechukwu made it clear that there was no point for him to blame Ndigbo without blaming himself first.

“This is a man some of us advised not to run against the zoning convention, that it will deny Ndigbo the chance of producing either the chairman or the vice presidential slot and he refused. He thought we are in Nollywood”
he APC zonal spokesman said.
According to Okechukwu, the Imo Governor should forthwith desist from the blame game and accept responsibility for the fate of Ndigbo in Buhari’s appointments.
He maintained that Okorocha lied when he claimed that he was crying like a lonely voice in the wilderness for Ndigbo to vote for Buhari.

He insisted that if Okorocha really cried like a lonely voice in the wilderness, President Buhari would have gotten at least 30 percent of the votes cast in Imo State and not 18 percent.

“If Okorocha worked for APC in the South-East, how come we did not even win a single senatorial seat in Imo and the entire zone? He should stop this blame game and accept responsibility for the fate that has befallen Ndigbo” Okechukwu said.

i never knew about boobs competition though. So you can imagine the chasm of consternation i reeled in upon seeing this.

Celebrities / Saraphina: Why I Dont Flaunt My Boobs by XavierBlue(m): 4:47pm On Sep 12, 2015
Many bloggers and enthusiastic entertainment pen-pushers have made several attempts to identify the actress that has the biggest boobs in Nollywood and many of them have come up short. But there seems to be one person most of them believe the crown befits – Cossy!

Yeah, good old Cossy would, without much doubts, come to mind because her boobs are almost always out there for all to see. But on a location in Owerri recently, even Cossy took off her hat to another actress, conceding defeat. Of course it is Saraphina Onyeakachi Amaechi

“ Yes, there was boobs competition which I won. But I must confess Saraphina is bigger than me. I only won the contest because she failed a question and I was the next best and more enlightened, so, I won” says Cossy when asked what it was like going head to head with Saraphina.

No doubt Saraphina’s boobs are there for all to see and it doesn’t appear there is much she could do to hide them, but she would tell you she doesn’t like flaunting them.

“Many people think I flaunt my boobs but I don’t. Why would I want to flaunt these boobs, aren’t they obvious enough?”, she wanted to know and I reminded her there are some pictures of hers that suggest nothing, but ‘I got it, I have to flaunt it’ kind of pose.

“No, I must not flaunt my boobs because people have eyes and I needn’t do that before they know that I am gifted. Check all Cossy’s pictures and that’s what we call flaunting. For me, I don’t flaunt them " she reasoned but it somewhat left me up creek without a paddle. Do you agree with her?

“My fashion is different from my lifestyle. My fashion might be weird and crazy but that is not my lifestyle. I think I live a very disciplined and focused life. I wake up in the morning, work out, cook my own food and go to the studio and do whatever I want to do. I live a very normal and simple life. I don’t really have a party lifestyle, I don’t club much. I think I need to keep working harder because at the end of the day I want to be found backing my parents up in whatever they are doing. And to do that, I need to have capital. I need to have money coming in for myself.
Doing a Kenyan music
For so many who are expecting this singer to do a full Kenyan music, their expectations may take a very long time to come to fulfillment as the singer can’t see herself doing it better than those in it already. “That is a very good question, I think I can’t call it a Kenyan music because Kenyan music does not necessarily have a sound the way we have a sound here. But Kenyan music has always been very diverse and we have some Kenyan artistes that do that well.
They have a very acoustic kind of dance. The thing about the music is that you don’t have a sound for it but you can differentiate it from other people’s music or tracks with the language. I am kind of scared because I do not know how to go about the song on this side of the continent. I have taken time to listen to all the sounds that I hear but I have not heard one I can really say sounds Kenyan.”

The idea is that women are not allowed to wear anything that exposes their body and I was very vocal with the campaign. I dress the way I want and you find out that it all boils down to sexism and poverty and illiteracy. Because I was looking at some women who were victims of that, they were not even indecent; they were wearing leggings. This is something I speak about all the time. So I am very involved with it in my country. I would really want the campaign to come to Kenya as well. Having the likes of Omotola and Waje, among others, coming to Kenya for the campaign will be awesome.

Comparing Nigerian music industry with Kenyan
It is no doubt a true statement that barely few years since she got into the Nigerian music industry all the way from Kenya, Victoria Kimani has impressed. Talking about her instant success in the Nigerian music industry she said she wanted to do a pan-African music that would be accepted all over the continent.

“Before I was signed to Los Angelos Laker Ron Artist, I knew I had always wanted to come back home and do music that would be accepted in Africa as a whole. I knew that if I had gone to Kenya it could be cool but everyone knows that when you talk of music and entertainment in general, Nigeria is like Hollywood, compared with other countries in Africa.

So I said to myself, I needed to come here because there are so many talents. So many people including the media are so interested in music compared to Kenya where less than 65% of Kenyan youths are interested in music but here in Nigeria it is like 70%. So when I was in the US I told myself that I needed to go back home and be a pan-African artiste; that artiste who will be able to move around the continent. So that was the reason for my coming in her,. I am so grateful to God, almost three years into the business I would say that I am getting closer to my goal but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Victoria Kimani as a sex symbol
Victoria Kimani has been described as one of the most beautiful and sexiest women to ever grace the African music scene. Looking at her and seeing those captivating curves you may agree with those who describe her that way. But in her own perception she sees being a sex symbol as a totally different thing and she explains:

“I don’t think that is a bad thing. I am quite aware of that. Besides, why should I apologise for owning up to what is mine. At times, I can choose to wear Hijab to cover it up. Sometimes, I decide to flaunt it. I don’t even look at what people say because this is me and I try to be myself oftentimes. It is people who look at me as sex symbol. I think seeing me as a sex symbol depends on what the people seeing me that way think. It is their own assessment because I do not dress or act it. Dressing is a thing of choice, what others like might be what others dislike.
Problems with the parents
Many would be wondering how her parents were able to cope with her eccentric lifestyle as a child, being the only daughter of the house. But she wasted no time in disappointing them with this answer, “I think they liked it because I was doing what was right and I was very resourceful. I would sing when I was on my own. Because my daddy was a singer too before he became a pastor, he never saw anything wrong in my singing. Besides, I think I inherited my father’s strong and stubborn streak.

I remember some people have told me my father was very stubborn in his young days before he became a pastor. But like I said, it was never an issue; I never saw that as an issue. I remember when I said I wanted to pierce my nose, I was too young back then in the States and was not yet 18 but I went ahead. When I showed it to my dad he just said “it is nice and cool.” I expected him to be mad at me but he showed no such sign.

“Knowing I had no qualms with my father concerning issues like that, couple of years later I had my tongue pierced and when he saw it he shouted that I should spit what was in my mouth out. I hid it from him for sometime but told him the truth later and he never complained. All I can say is that my parents understand the difference between a good kid who is just weird and a bad kid who is going out of his/her ways to do something bad.”

Her fashion style

“I work with a lot of make-up artistes but sometimes I dictate my style myself. If I see something that I feel it is not going to look good on me, I will not wear it so that it will not look like somebody is forcing me to wear something. I like to try different things and that is one good thing about fashion.”

To make the record clear, she said that her fashion style is quite different from her lifestyle as she said she lives a disciplined and focused life.
Celebrities / Victoria Kimani: Sometimes I Wear Hijab To Cover My Curves by XavierBlue(m): 7:47am On Sep 12, 2015
Kenya-born Victoria Kimani stormed the Nigerian music scene to make a difference. Couple of years down the line, it seems the curvaceous beauty has found a nest for herself and she is set to blossom and compete with the very best in the industry. Signed to Chocolate City label, the gorgeous diva talked to us about her life:

Evolution into music

Just like every other talented singer, music started for Victoria Kimani at a very tender age. In fact to show how talented she is, she recorded her first single, titled How I feel, at the age of 16.

“I remember singing around the house because my parents played gospel music a lot. But I preferred listening to real American gospel music.

Singing along most times, I started practising and miming on my own. So, one day, I was just singing all alone in the house and my dad walked in and caught me singing. He told me that I had a beautiful voice, but I never believed him because I didn’t really know I could sing. I just liked singing at that point.

Because of that, I didn’t like singing in his presence any longer because I was shy. Later, my dad got me a tape recorder and I was recording myself after which I would play it back to listen to myself. After sometime, I started learning how to make words rhyme.

When I turned 16, I recorded my first song which was titled, How I feel. It was the most interesting song you would ever hear and I kept recording myself till I turned 17. At 17, I did a back up for Mercy Macah, a top Kenyan legendary singer and she was really at the peak of her career at that time. So I used to visit her and sing for her and she liked my voice. Then she told me she was going for a musical tour two week from then and asked me to come along if I was ready to work hard enough on my singing. We worked together and we did about 16 songs. I learned a lot with her touring countries like, Burkinafaso and Tanzania. We went all over Kenya, performing. That was the beginning of my music career.”

About her person

Aside music, Victoria simply describes herself as a slightly rebellious person. “I would describe myself as slightly rebellious and an eccentric person. I think I am an eccentric person because I like to express myself and I get really bored if I have the same hairstyle for a long time. I don’t like waiting for people to do things for me. Even now that I am signed to Chocolate City, I do a lot of things myself. I used to be a make-up artiste at some point, so I just learned how to do things for myself. I am an independent person.”

On why she did not venture into gospel music, given her strict Christian background, she said, “my mother asks me that every day when we talk on phone. She will tell me that it will be better if I go into gospel but I don’t know why I don’t want to go into gospel.

I think when I started writing, it was more about how I started, so it was more about expressing how I feel and not necessarily about worship. I love worship music and I listen to it when I want to sleep. I just never saw myself as someone who will make gospel music but I saw myself as someone who will make music that will talk about Christ.”

Her involvement with One campaign
With her involvement in the One campaign which is in its second stage now, the Kenyan-born Nigeria-based talented singer has said that she bought the idea because she feels that would be a wonderful way of letting the continent know the importance of agriculture since the first edition of the campaign talked about the benefits of investing in agriculture in order to reduce poverty.

“This is actually my second year of being involved in One Campaign. The first year was basically to promote and speak about agriculture to different people in Africa.

It is all about trying to encourage the youths to be more involved in farming, and reminding them that the richest black man in the world, Dangote, is very much involved in agriculture. So we are just trying to encourage the youths that we have wealth at home through agriculture, that, there is no need going outside to look for wealth when we have so much wealth at home too.

When they called me the first time for the One Campaign, I did not even know what the campaign was all about but I later realised that it is all about poverty eradication. Poverty affects women more than it affects men. Anything that affects women touches my heart considerably.

On how much of the campaign she has taken home to her people in Kenya, she said, “you know what, this is my lifestyle, this is what I am all about. Recently, there is something going on in the streets of Kenya where women were stripped naked for dressing in a way they termed indecent.
Politics / Things Buhari Must Do Before December- Ikokwu by XavierBlue(m): 7:33am On Sep 12, 2015
FOLLOWING the mixed views that heralded President Muhammadu Buhari’s 100 days in office, Second Republic politician and elder statesman, Chief Guy Ikokwu, has advised the president to ensure that he leaves unarguable landmarks within the next three months

Nigerians were clearly divided on the achievements or failures of President Buhari after 100 days in office. Ikokwu said in six months, Buhari must be seen to have addressed a number of issues, he considered to be non-negotiable
Apart from charting an economic agenda and direction he suggested to be known asNigerianomics,Ikokwu said insecurity and corruption must be fought headlong with discernible results. And the president must get his cabinet in place and avoiding discredited politicians and allies who dominated the political firmament in the last 30 years.

Major issues

He said: ‘’The president himself has highlighted two major issues: insecurity and corruption. It looks as if it is taking more time than anticipated. The Nigerian public are watching to see if the president as a General can combat the issue of insecurity and terrorism between now and December, 2015.

‘’Most Nigerians believe that since insecurity is a national issue, it must include other zones. No zone on its own can tackle the issue of insecurity and terrorism, which he said are urgent matters.

‘’The canker-worm of corruption is not something that can be cured within 100 days but at the moment, the president has made the issue of accountability his watchword in the sense that all the areas of leakages in the public sector have to be plugged. This has to involve the civil service, trade unions and professional organisations across the country.
Credible ministers, cabinet

The only clue one can gather at the moment even in the face of non-application of the federal character principle in the appointments made by the president, is he has distanced himself a little bit from the previous public officials and political juggernauts andgodfathers, who have been in all political parties since 1990, whether they belong to the peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other party or the military as the situation may be.

President Buhari should not encumber himself and his administration with the excess baggage of public officers, godfathers, cronies and perverted politicians and retired devious military administrators of the past era of 30 years. Most of them are still alive, unrepentant and very much implicated in our nation’s loss of over $300 billion causing us such squalor, poverty, ineptitude, illiteracy and ill-health.’’

Diversification of the economy, fiscal federalism

Ikokwu continued: ‘’Although, he has sounded a note that there is need to diversify the economy and we know these cannot be done in 100 days, most Nigerians believe that within this years, the principle of true federalism and decentralisation of the Federal Government will be in accordance with the desire and expositions of our founding fathers like Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Sir Ahmadu Bello.
During this period, the economy was diversified and it was not dependent on oil and Nigeria developmental stride was more than 9 per cent per annum, which means, it is only through true decentralisation and true federalism that we can have better education, healthcare, infrastructure and electricity.

‘’The legislature (National Assembly and states assembly) must begin now and by December restructure the country to fiscal federalism. Since the reports of the 2014 National Conference and constitutional amendment of the National Assembly are now on the table of the National Assembly, it is not a question of starting afresh. The materials are already there.

Economic blueprint: Nigerianomics

‘’There is no reason all the zones should not be united to ensure that Buhari succeeds. The president should set up a committee that should give the whole country Nigerianomics so that all Nigerians will know where the country is headed.

There should be true federalism, accountability and probity instead of this military system. It was the military that led us astray because our traditions and cultures do not encourage dictatorial situations.

We are waiting for Buhari to change Nigeria, 100 days may be too short but they can show the direction. Between now December something must begin to happen’’

Education / Naira Depreciation: ACCA Slashes Fees For Nigerian Students. by XavierBlue(m): 7:50pm On Sep 10, 2015
In recognition of the impact of the naira depreciation of the affordability of its fees for Nigerian students, Global accounting body, Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) has announced 60 percent reduction in registration fees for Nigerian students.

The reductions also include 50 percent reduction in first year subscription, and 50 percent reduction in exemption fees.
ACCA Director, Market Transformation, Mr. Kevin Kernan, disclosed this while addressing a press conference at the sidelines of the launch of ACCA Strategic Pricing Initiative for Nigeria.

Kernan said that the reduction in fees was in response to comments from stakeholders in the wake of the impact of the naira depreciation on the affordability of ACCA fees for Nigerian students.

He said, “ACCA has historically has operated a single pricing strategy for all its customers around the globe. But in Nigeria, after a lot of research and consultation with stakeholders, from today, we are making some new prices for Nigerian students exclusively. We recognise that affordability have been an issue for many Nigerian students, particularly with the exchange rate variations in recent times.

So we are reducing the initial registration fee by 60 percent. We are reducing the first year subscription fee for new students by 50 percent. Also many students claim exemptions from our exams, so we are reducing exemption fees for them by 50 percent. These represents significant reduction in prices students, parents or their employers have to pay in order to start their journey towards ACCA qualification.

“In order to avail themselves of these new prices, the student must be resident in Nigeria. So we consider this good news for all our stakeholders in the Nigerian community.

The new pricing applies to students applying for the foundation and main ACCA examination qualifications but it does not apply to members or affiliates. The focus is on the student population.”

“This is a very new venture for ACCA and we have been considering other markets, but Nigeria is one of the first markets where we have done this. We are currently studying Ghana, Zimbabwe. What we are offering in Nigeria is very targeted and focused on the Nigerian students, with a lot of consultations with the stakeholders.”

Also speaking on the rationale for the reduction, Head of ACCA Nigeria, Mrs Toyin Ademola said, “The new pricing initiative is about making ACCA more affordable for Nigerians. It goes with ACCA values which are affordability accessibility opportunities, innovation, and diversity.

“What is driving this initiative is, having listened to our customers, one of the challenges we find that our students have is affordability. So it is not about competition, it is about us providing values to our students. It is about accessibility and also giving them the opportunities at a more affordable rate to get global qualification.
