No big deal, So long the man can afford to part with the money without any pain.

Father-inlaw buys their son-inlaw cars and houses, so no issue, Is also like his father too.

I feel so too, but this is actually the first time they are meeting, and it's not some big cash o... I feel it's more of a test. Whether he passed it or not, I don't know.

Family / Is It Proper To Take Transport Fare Offered To You By Your Girl's Parents? by Xion: 12:02am On Nov 24, 2014
I have a friend who visited his girl's house to meet her parents (he has serious intentions of marrying her). After he was served a meal which he ate, and asked different questions in a cordial manner (he answered all the questions accordingly). It was a warm reception, as the girl's dad proved to be jovial.
When he was about leaving, the girl's dad offered him 3000 naira as transport fare, which he reluctantly collected.
Do you think it was proper to have collected the cash? Please drop your comments

Computers / Microsoft Unveils Windows 10 by Xion: 10:22pm On Oct 01, 2014
Microsoft announced Windows 10 on Tuesday at an event in San Francisco, marking the next major upgrade to Windows and the return of the Start menu.

Windows 10, which skips a number in its sequential order (many believed it would be called Windows 9), is the first major update since Windows 8, which was considered a failure by many and virtually ignored by businesses. It will also be the name of the next mobile operating system for Windows Phone.

Windows 10 will be available in late 2015.

Although it's unclear why Microsoft decided to name it Windows 10 instead of Windows 9, perhaps there's one obvious reason: the company wanted to distance itself as much as possible away from the previous version.

The latest software will run on a variety of devices and is what Microsoft is calling "our greatest enterprise platform ever." Does that mean it's giving up on touchscreen capabilities? "Absolutely not," an executive told attendees.

Users will be able to switch between tablet and "mouse and keyboard mode," he said, adding that "[we're] committed to supporting these touch scenarios."

Microsoft also emphasized that more 1.5 billion people are using Windows today, but added its now a "new time for Windows."

Windows 10 will come with customizable live tiles in the new Start menu — the removal of it on Windows 8 was among one of the biggest criticisms of the platform. Microsoft said the experience should feel "super natural" to Windows 7 users.

Microsoft also announced its Windows Insider Program, a developer's program to allow enterprise people to evaluate it early, and will be available starting on Thursday. Members of the program will have access to the tech preview build.

The news of an updated Windows system doesn't come as a complete surprise: Microsoft's invitation to its press event hinted at "what's next for Windows and the enterprise." Leaked images of the new software — under the code name "Threshold" — started leaking out over the weekend.

Other features include task view, which supports multiple desktops, and Snap Assist, which lets you grab apps from multiple desktops. The command prompt has also been improved.

Windows 8 was panned by many users and critics, which aimed to combine the touchability of a tablet with the desktop functionality. Microsoft has been struggling with mobile hardware, too: in 2013, the company took a $900 million charge by cutting the prices of its Surface RT tablet in 2013 amid weak sales and demand.

Windows 10 could be the company's best chance at re-engaging its most important customer: the enterprise. company's chance at a turnaround and an attempt to distance itself from its latest challenges. It comes at a key time, too: Apple and IBM recently announced a partnership to bring mobile tech to businesses, Google is working with Samsung to do the same and BlackBerry still has its hat in the ring too.

Food / Re: Where Does The Word 'garri' Come From? by Xion: 8:47am On Jul 20, 2014
Must everything have an English name? Please, let our Akara be Akara (not bean cakes), let our Moi-Moi be moi-moi, let Agbalumo/Udara be what they are... Very soon, African names will be extinct, simply because we want English name for everything.

I dunno the origin of Garri

In northern Nigeria, it's used to describe anything that has to same texture as garri

Culture / Re: The Tom And Jerry Relationship Between The Igbos And Yorubas. by Xion: 11:42pm On Jul 14, 2014
I personally feel the disgust for the Yorubas came as a result of the actions of these two Yoruba men during the war, Brigadier Victor Banjo and Colonel Benjamin Adekunle.

Brigadier Victor Banjo was a Nigerian prisoner in the Biafran territory trying to escape court-martial. Ojukwu used him as “My Enemy’s enemy is my friend”, but the guy faltered when he got a higher bargain from the Brits or better still, for reasons best known to him. He didn’t live long to speak for himself after he was executed alongside other Igbo Traitors. He didn’t act on behalf of the Yorubas.

Colonel Benjamin Adekunle (The much dreaded Black Scorpion) who led the third division of the Nigerian offensive crew and massacred (yes, massacre is the word) tons of innocent Biafrans on his way from Port Harcourt northwards. Personally, I’ve always known him to be a ruthless psychopath who is hated by his own people for lots of his diabolic acts. Adekunle never acted on behalf of the Yoruba nation, he has this to say for himself. “I do not dislike Igbos… I did not want this war, I did not start this war – Ojukwu did. But I want to win this war… Sorry”.

Just my opinion

Blockus: OP,

I find this thread offensive to ndi Igbos. angry

We dont have any relationship whatsoever with the Yorubas. angry

They have proven to be untrust worthy since the beginning of time. They are two faced, back-stabbing and maliciously wicked and have demonstrated it time and time again. Lets not forget that the genocidal aspect of the civil war where food and medical supply were cut off from the East was not suggested by the Northerners but by a Yoruba man. Lets not even forget that there would not have been a war per se if the Yorubas had stuck to their end of the bargain from the Aburi accord held in Ghana.

The Yorubas are not trust worthy at all and thats the root of our problems in Nigeria. Atleast the Hausas have shown us where they stand from the very beginning.

I am yoruba, and I live in SE Nigeria, I think you should read wider with an open and unbiased mind on the Aburi Accord (before, during, and after).

It's pitiable that Africa doesn't have accurate documentation of its people, their origin, past events etc.

Everything seems biased, fact that a yorubaman proposed the cut in medication and food supplies doesn't mean he sampled the opinion of all yorubas, please don't be quick to forget who spearheaded the 1966 coup, I don't take it to be an Igbo thing.

I feel the seed of hatred sown by the greedy and insecure men of that time is a full grown tree now, so many of our "past national heroes" were nothing but villains and should never be celebrated.

Just my opinion

striker9: Don't derail the thread with tribal utterances.

With the volatile nature of NL when it comes to tribal issues, you should know that the best you can get of this post is nothing but tribal rantings,
Issues with no tribal affiliations get tribalised on NL.

I feel the disintegration of Nigeria may not be geographical as expected by many, it's little things like this that shows the broken nation.

Please let's watch our opinions as concerning tribal disparity, we don't want to share the same story with what happened in Rwanda years back.

Anyone can return the bride price of his daughter, if He wishes. It's not a tribal thing.

Whether biblical or not, I don't know, but I know it's not all your marriage customs are.

Let's go easy on the biblical aspect too

CuteTj: And 3 years after this thread was created, where is bandiejay now? What happened to his music career? What's he up to now? And the guy mess up sef. He didn't conclude this interesting story.

Bro, I must tell you how much I've been inspired by his experiences, in the positive way of course, I tell myself that if he can take all that risk for something like that then I can put in all the effects I have, especially now that I have some support in my chosen field.

I have bandiejay to thank for stirring up the man in me.

I searched for bandiejay online using different channels, and I found him. He doesn't seem to be doing bad. I'm so happy about that.

His book is titled "Europe by Desert", I hope to pick this book up at any bookstore I see this.

For those condemning bandiejay, please stop it, see how you can use his case as a stepping stone. I can bet with anything that you have never staked so much for what you believe in.

Thanks so much, Bandiejay.

Religion / Re: How Far Can Romance Go Without Involving Sin? by Xion: 9:46pm On Nov 25, 2013
joyce01: What do u mean by "romance " in this context? Is it d period of dating or courtship? If Yes, then I have a little to say. Sin as used in dis context is synonymous to impurity and d opposite of impurity is purity. often, we take purity to be a line and as long as we do not cross dat line, we are still on d path of purity. This implies dat whatever u do before u get to dat line is not a sin as long as we do not cross dat line. this is false. Permit me to tell u dat purity is a path and so is impurity. While courting or dating, purity should be our watch word Cos once you're not on d path of purity, u'll definitely be on d path of impurity. Let's not say, "let's do this or do that, as long as we do not do this(which is d line we have set for ourselves), we are still safe". That's not true. It's either we're on d path of purity or not, there's no sitting on d fence. I think we shouldn't see some sins as bigger than others Cos sin is sin as stated in 1 John 5:17a. Let's not even do anything that'll make us to leave dat path of purity in our relationships as Christians. I should also state here dat our relationships as Christians should be distinct from dat of d world. Let's keep ourselves and our relationships pure before marriage and even in our marriages. That injunction dat one of d reasons y relationships fail is d lack of romance, is a false one. With or without "romance ", d presence of God in a relationship is What makes it work.

A wonderful point you made right there. I also think the romance factor in relationship can be easily mixed up and therefore should not be a determining factor in a Christian courtship, thanks
Religion / Re: How Far Can Romance Go Without Involving Sin? by Xion: 9:24am On Nov 24, 2013
fleyboy02: Well on my own little understanding,,I think romance can go as far as uncountable years without sin base on the two parties that are invole, and also, it can just last for two-five days and you see dem wallowing in sin,,,,the truth of the matter is,,it depends on thier level of comitment and also on thier individual mind sets in the relationship,,,if for instance the guy is just thier to please his desires then definetly sin must involve if on the other hand the girl/lady also agrees to the terms of the man,,,,so for me,,it depends on what they aim to derive from the relationship

For a relationship aiming for marriage, I'm sure limits should be put in place. Levels of intimacy should be stated, the kissing, holding of hands, hugs etc

I also want to state that having sex is not the referred to in this context.

Not too long ago, I read about things that threaten relationships during courtship. One of the threats is "little or no romance".

Looking at what romance is in the world of today, I was forced to ask "How far can romance go without involving sin?"

I'll like to get your opinion on this.
