Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Interested In Moderating This Section? by xothermik(m): 8:50am On Oct 12, 2012
i think for this group to be effective or as alive as it once was. we need to have multiple moderators. and typically a good moderator is someone with a lot of experience and knowledge in the field. i think we should combine people like OKX,ZPIXEL,DAMSEREMIE,GRAPHIKDON, APHEK, SOJIOGUNS. etc. only such people can really keep this section as sane as it should be. Give it to any one interested or overzealous newbies and we'd end up right where we started from. sole moderators work for most threads on nairaland but when it comes to an all encompassing graphic video thread like this one. you need people from different fields and with a certain level of maturity and experience. and since these people are usually very busy and lack time to spend all day moderating all the garbage posted here. it will work best if we could have several. this is nothing new. in most of the foreign forums that im a member of that is how its being done especially a thread like this that lacks sub sections for 2d\3d stills, animation, vfx, application specific, tutorials, plugins etc. its just too much work for one person. i myself wont mind being a moderator but know i cant be effective alone. there are other guys other than those i have mentioned that have seen it all here and were in many ways the life blood of this forum. these guys are not cheap glory hunters looking to impress or forward their agenda but simply want whats best for the progress of our graphic and video industry. if you guys think i make sense post a comment here and i could actually anchor in some of these guys that i know on a personal level.

Art, Graphics & Video / Real Life Mario Party by xothermik(m): 2:26pm On Jul 28, 2012

hi afrimators.(i think i coined that word :-D) a little while back i was commissioned by pikaparody studios, a small animation company in the u.s specialized in making animated parodies to set up and animate one of their projects. a series called "The real life Mario party". i had a lot of fun setting up and animating it and it was a wonderful experience to for the first time work on an international collab project with voice actors, director and story writer mainly from u.k and u.s. i will be posting an article on my blog soon for those interested in how it all came together. here's the first episode. comments will be great.

@salmoneus, quite nice. quite a nice visual style. the criticisms i have are firsly the lip sync in relation to the narration. sometimes seems off and other times leaves me bemused as to whether its meant to sync with the narration or just having its own inaudible dialogue. also of course you could work on the animation the most visible flaw being the incoming tiger which appears like its trying to negate slipping on ice. lastly the audio could be improved upon. i suspect you over did the noise reduction a bit on the recordings generating the somewhat squeaky or echoey sound. i hope you don't take my criticisms as being negative but rather areas i feel you could improve upon. keep it up.
Celebrities / Re: "Kristina Houston": Bobbi Kristina Brown Wants Name Change by xothermik(m): 11:39pm On Mar 12, 2012
Stupid teen is simply trying to ride on sympathy and her mothers fame instead of going off to make hers. When ppl are even changing their name from their famous parents name so they won't be trapped in their shadow. This lazy teen is already cementing herself there. Well somebody tell her we knew just who she is and her parents are before she was even born!
Nairaland / General / Re: The New Nairaland: Are You Staying Or Leaving? by xothermik(m): 11:32pm On Mar 12, 2012
I think its mainly a commercial move. I see more banners on the home page. I think its very clunky and rigid to use at the moment. I mean if nothing I expected the upgrade to support the use of pictures or avatars of users and accomodate more letters or characters at your post footer. Now you can't even see a persons footer comment or link. I think that's a huge retardation for a forum of this age. Its not only jobless and bored people that patronize this forum. There are communities of professionals here as well especially in the technology section. I for one got my job and a lot of buisness contacts because of this site. The footer used to be a place where u could learn a thing about the poster or even get a link to their website. Also I think its silly to expect people to view posts based on hours and minutes they were posted alone like we are some military robots as opposed to seeing the time based on today, yesterday etc. Like in the old one. Also some of the font colors are products of terrible web design. I mean you really have to squint to read some of the content. Its not an excuse to say you did it yourself or whatever. Or u think facebook would have gotten to where it is today if he kept doing everthing himself? Employ people like coders that are better than you to help fix the difficult things you complain about. Graphic artists and designers and web designers to come up with a practical look for the forum. You are making money from the advertising for gods sake! You don't even have to go anywhere to get the best hands. You have it all here right here on nairaland! There are already many better forums today in nigeria based on both visua and functionality. The only thing nairaland has better is the users who have already set camp here and just won't be bothered to start over else where. You keep making it harder or less usable for them then you are basically and systematically donating your users elsewhere.

Intresting. Seems to me as long as they can financially make it worthwhile, the standard way studios around the world react to narrow deadlines is by hiring extra hands to work on freelance while the core permanent staff usually work on longer running projects. I think it can still work by the distance if well coordinated. recently got contacted and contracted with a small company in the u.s that specializes in making animated parodies. Had 2 work with voice actors as well as the director and even the writer via the internet and I must say its going pretty well. Will create a thread soon on that to share my experience and how this works. You can email me if you wanna discuss further. Sagircarpenter@gmail.com

Hi lafem. Nice 2 hav u bak. I always had massive respect for your work because people don't realize the phenomenal energy it takes for you to bring animation using classic methods with pencil and paper to screen. It will definitely be a big game changer for you once you egress the transition from traditional to tradigital. I'm thinking of getting a cintiq too. Like how much did u get urs 4 in naira?.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Things Fall Apart Animated Coming To Nta? by xothermik(m): 4:30pm On Feb 15, 2012
@zpixel lol. I know what u mean. Quite a number of technical issues particularly the animation(fight scene shocked ).  Doesn't seem like a soundly funded and coordinated  project. Seems rushed in many ways to make the finish line. Well see how it goes. Thanks 4 d link. Have embedded it at the top.
Art, Graphics & Video / Things Fall Apart Animated Coming To Nta? by xothermik(m): 6:52pm On Feb 09, 2012
Very early this morning a friend called me to say he saw an advert of an animated version of the " things fall apart" story by chinua achebe and was sure I had something to do with it. Had to disappoint him with "no" for an answer. That made me tune in to nta on the side as I worked, and sure enough there it was. Was made by a studio called "animation nation" I think and supposedly in collaboration with the NTA which got me curious really. Did NTA finally start seeing the fact that it cannot keep running away from animation if it wants to move forward? Especially as they now have a dedicated kids channel on star times which at the moment only has programmes like arithmetic, biology, health and other boring stuff with barely any animation. Certainly nothing indeginous. I'd like to know the extent of their involvement. Anyway was wondering what u guys think of the whole matter and if anyone here actually had anything to do with it. Something tells me there is.

Check out the 1 minute trailer here.

So far so good. I noticed u are not modeling in maya as was traditionally the case with you. Any real reason for that?
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Goodluck Jonathan 3d Rig (animation) by xothermik(m): 2:32am On Jan 23, 2012
Kemji u sold out xtreme studios now. Lol. Anyway its not easy o. I mean life gets in the way for most. trust me I haven't been that in touch with 3d myself. Our 2d cartoon project from development 2 production has overridden everything in the past 2 years or so. This is an attempt 2 keep up with -as you put it- the 3d world. Thanks for ur kind words.

you are right. the point is what works best for you. if i were to do it though i think i only need 1. i took the liberty 2 do a test of your design and came up with this. hope its cool with you. done in anime studio pro.  if you want i would like to share the techniques i used with you.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 2d/3d Art Gallery by xothermik(m): 4:29pm On Jan 18, 2012
@ jimme luv d character design especially when I think  from a chartacter setup and animation point of view. Should be pretty quick to work with. which makes me wonder why u need 3 apps just to animate. If you don't mind I'd like to have a go at it to see if I was right.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Goodluck Jonathan 3d Rig (animation) by xothermik(m): 7:27pm On Jan 14, 2012
Thanks for the feedback guys really inspires me 2 push even harder.

@zpix its about time partner. I think I c what u referrin 2 but can u eliminate doubt and elaborate? Is it about off point emoting with the eyes or keyframe issues and any specific time or the whole thing?
