TV/MoviesEllen Degeneres Show Work Place To Be Investigated by xpmode(op): 11:58am On Jul 28, 2020
Warner Bros, Hollywood media giants, is conducting an internal investigation of The Ellen DeGeneres Show following multiple complaints by employees of the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, a memo was emailed to employees of The Show last week, which stated Warner Bros. will be interviewing current and former staffs about their experience on the set of the talk show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

The report comes after several allegations by current and former staffers of the Television show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres said that they were subjected to a toxic work environment

According to the report, interviews will be conducted by Warner Media’s employee relations group and an unspecified “third party firm,”.

Earlier this month a number of employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show blasted it as a ‘toxic work environment’.

Some workers alleged they were fired after taking medical leave and were subjected to favoritism by executive producers of the Ellen DeGeneres show.

In all of these though, Ellen DeGeneres herself was never accused of any of the alleged misconduct even though one anonymous worker stated;

“I think the executive producers surround Ellen DeGeneres and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that, but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that.”

CrimePaternity Controversy: Lady Moves To Stop IGP From Conducting DNA Test On 9-year by xpmode(op): 10:43am On Jul 28, 2020
A lady, Ndidiamaka Ekwerekwu, has moved to restrain the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, after he ordered that a DNA test be conducted on her 9-year-old son, Chidera Ekwerekwu, following the death of her husband, Victor Ekwerekwu.
The IGP ordered a DNA test following a protracted battle between the family late of Victor Ekwerekwu, and his widow over the paternity of the child.

However, the widow went to Justice D.A. Onyefulu of the Anambra State High Court to obtain an order restraining the IG from releasing the result of the test conducted on the child.

According to Mrs Ndidiamaka, subjecting the child to a DNA test “amounts to slavery, servitude and degrading treatment, which is a gross violation of his fundamental rights as enshrined in Section 34 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”

While asking the court to declare any result arising from the DNA test a nullity, Mrs Ekwerekwu, in the suit filed by her lawyer, C.C. Obikwelu of Chidiobieze Chambers in Onitsha, prayed that she be paid N6bn as damages by both the police and her deceased husband’s family.

She also demanded “an order nullifying the result obtained from a purported DNA test conducted on the applicants forcibly without her consent and rendering such results null and void and not to be accepted by any court of law same being obtained by illegal and fraudulent means.”

PoliticsFresh Revelation: NDDC Received N946.91bn As Budgetary Allocation In 18 Years by xpmode(op): 3:10pm On Jul 27, 2020
There are fresh revelations that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) received the sum of N946. 91 billion as budgetary allocation in 18 years.
The report that the NDDC received N946.92 from the Federal Government as budgetary allocation is based on findings contained in a publication by The Nation.

The sum is part of the N9.43 trillion allocated between 1999 to 2019 as 13 per cent derivation to the nine oil-producing states and other agencies of the Federal Government involved developing oil-producing communities.

Figures sourced from the Budget Office of the Federation and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) at the weekend contain the figures.

Information garnered from the Budget Office showed that the NDDC allocation is subsumed in the Ministry of Niger Delta’s total allocation.

It is only in few instances that the commission’s allocations were separated.

For instance, the NDDC got a budgetary allocation of N61,94bn in 2014; N45.78bn in 2015 and N71. 2bn in 2018.

Other allocations that the commission got were buried in the main allocation of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and so the exact amount could not be readily determined.

But budgetary allocation to the NDDC, from 2004 to 2019 stands at N769bn with the highest allocations of N81.9bn in 2018 and ?100.19bn in 2019.

Monthly FAAC disbursements, NDDC through the oil mineral producing states benefitted from 13% derivation amounting to N8.66trillion.

CrimeJungle Justice: 2 Men Set Ablaze For Robbery In Imo State (graphic Photos) by xpmode(op): 2:54pm On Jul 24, 2020
On Tuesday, July 21, embittered youths set two men ablaze for allegedly robbing in Mbaise, Imo State.

An eyewitness who was present during the incidence said:
“Seriously, I’m really tired and bored of all these irritating things happening in this country.

“In as much as crime should be frowned at, it’s still out of place to take laws into your hands.

“Why not reach to the police and hand the men over?

“What exactly do you gain in participating in Jungle justice?

“This is too extreme, we are in a civilized society, such a barbaric act should not be obtainable in this century.

If these men should be set ablaze and burnt to death for minor robbery, what then should be done to our leaders at the Federal and State Government that rob us everyday?

Even the ones reported to be arrested do not stay in custody for a week. Just check around and confirm what I’m saying.

Nigeria government why, is this the justice of end of corruption you promised us?

The Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has debunked allegations that he fingered members of the National Assembly accusing them of collecting 60 percent of the contracts at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Akpabio, in a letter read on the floor of the House during Plenary by the Speaker on Thursday said the only reference he made to 60 percent during his presentation before the NDDC committee on Monday was in response to a question by a member of the committee.

He said the member had sought to know whether a Medical Director can serve as an Executive Director Project, to which he responded by saying that since 50 to 60 percent of NDDC contracts were medical related, there was nothing wrong in a Medical Director serving in that capacity.

PoliticsThe Deadly Secret Of China ‘s Invisible Armada by xpmode(op): 1:11pm On Jul 23, 2020
The battered wooden “ghost boats” drift through the Sea of Japan for months, their only cargo the corpses of starved North Korean fishermen whose bodies have been reduced to skeletons. Last year more than 150 of these macabre vessels washed ashore in Japan, and there have been more than 500 in the past five years.
For years the grisly phenomenon mystified Japanese police, whose best guess was that climate change pushed the squid population farther from North Korean, driving the country’s desperate fishermen dangerous distances from shore, where they become stranded and die from exposure.

But an NBC News investigation, based on new satellite data, has revealed what marine researchers now say is a more likely explanation: China is sending a previously invisible armada of industrial boats to illegally fish in North Korean waters, violently displacing smaller North Korean boats and spearheading a decline in once-abundant squid stocks of more than 70 percent.

The Chinese vessels — nearly 800 in 2019 — appear to be in violation of U.N. sanctions that forbid foreign fishing in North Korean waters. The sanctions, imposed in 2017 in response to the country’s nuclear tests, were intended to punish North Korea by not allowing it to sell fishing rights in its waters in exchange for valuable foreign currency.

PoliticsThe Legislative Contractors by xpmode(op): 12:58pm On Jul 23, 2020
“It should be clear to the National Assembly that their incestuous relationship with the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on which they have oversight responsibilities cannot continue. It is an open secret that many of our lawmakers are the leading contractors in some of these MDAs where they deploy their oversight powers as a weapon of blackmail and intimidation…”

The foregoing is taken from my column, ‘Incest in the House’ published on 22nd April 2013, following the scandal that pitched the then Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Director-General, Ms Arunma Oteh against the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Markets and Other Institutions. Bullied by the committee chairman, Oteh had turned the table by questioning the credibility of Hon Herman Hembe: “On 20th October last year (2012), you were given a cheque to travel to the Dominican Republic to attend a conference. Can you tell Nigerians that you returned the money when you did not travel? In asking the SEC to contribute N39 million for this public hearing, don’t you think that you are undermining your capacity to carry out your duties? You also requested that we should provide at least N5 million, that was a day before this public hearing started…”

That scenario of the accuser becomes the accused was re-enacted on Monday at the House of Representatives public hearing on alleged mismanagement and financial impropriety at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Following the drama of the acting managing director of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Prof Daniel Pondei slumping while rendering accounts—with all manner of hands inserted into his mouth (I hope he goes for COVID-19 test)—it was the turn of the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio. Issuing a subtle threat, Akpabio said it was in the interest of the National Assembly to ensure that ongoing payments to NDDC contractors were not hampered since their members were largely the beneficiaries. “So it is important that people who have gone to court, people who genuinely did jobs should be paid for their jobs. For me, I am not against it because, of course, who are even the greatest beneficiaries? It is you, people.”

SportsPremier League : Liverpool Celebrates Outstanding Victory Over Chelsea by xpmode(op): 12:06pm On Jul 23, 2020
Liverpool have been presented the Premier League trophy following their 5-3 win against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday, July 22.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said having the opportunity to lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield meant the world to him despite having to do so in an empty stadium with fans shut out due to coronavirus.

The Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the Premier League this year and won the league with seven games to spare in late June. It took them 28 wins and 86 points to win the title.

They were first confirmed champions of Premier League 2019/2020 season after Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge last month to deny them the chance of defending the title and paving the way for The Reds to get their hands on the title after a 30-year wait.

The Reds sealed a first top-flight title for 30 years last month, but had to wait until after a thrilling 5-3 win over Chelsea in their final home game of the season to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time.

CrimeHow Popular Nigerian Cultists, Human Traffickers Were Nabbed By Italian Police by xpmode(op): 1:29pm On Jul 22, 2020
At least 15 Nigerians and members of the ‘Eiye’ confraternity have been arrested by Polizia di Stato, Operatives of the Italian Police Force.
Members of the gang who were also accused of intimidating young girls into prostitution, money laundering, amongst others were nabbed during an operation dubbed “Pesha” by the Italian police which ended on Tuesday morning.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Italian Police Force said members of the ‘Eiye’ cult, which had roots in Nigeria, have a series of international contacts in France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, and other European countries.

Eiye is a mythological bird of the Nigerian tradition and members of the cult tend to be in it “for life” once initiated.

The police had got a tip-off from a disgruntled member of the group who was brutalised after violating some of the codes of the cult.

The Operation Pesha officers were thus deployed to the suspects’ hideout and coven where they arrested 15 of them while four others are at large.

The statement read in part, “The 15 people detained by order of the L’Aquila District Anti-Mafia Directorate are of Nigerian nationality.

“All those arrested belong to the “Pesha” ...

PoliticsAkpabio: Why Late Kyari Ordered Joy Nunieh’s Removal From Office by xpmode(op): 10:48am On Jul 22, 2020
On Monday, June 20, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, told the House of Representatives that the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Joy Nunieh was sacked following a letter from the late Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari that she does not have the requisite qualification to occupy a public office.

Akpabio said Kyari’s letter stated that the former NDDC boss does not have an NYSC certificate, adding that the letter formed one of the basis for her removal from office.

He also said the other reason for her removal from office bothers on insubordination and her refusal to attend a meeting of the Federal Executive Council to offer explanation on certain actions of the Commission.

He said “she ignored the letter written to her by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry directing her to attend a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

“She felt that she is bigger than the Minister because she has a bigger budget.”

In a rather rowdy session with members of the House Committee, Akpabio denied claims by Dr. Nunieh that the forensic audit of the commission has not commenced, saying the forensic audit has since commenced.

Twitter suffered a major security breach on Wednesday, June 15, that saw hackers take control of the accounts of major public figures and corporations, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Apple.

The company confirmed the breach Wednesday evening, more than six hours after the hack began, and attributed it to a “coordinated social engineering attack” on its own employees that enabled the hackers to access “internal systems and tools”. Twitter said it was “looking into what other malicious activity they may have conducted or information they may have accessed” in addition to using the compromised accounts to send tweets.

The hack unfolded over the course of several hours, and in the course of halting it, Twitter stopped all verified accounts from tweeting at all – an unprecedented measure. The company had restored most accounts by Wednesday evening, but warned that it “may take further actions”. The company said that it had also locked the compromised accounts and “taken steps to limit access to internal systems and tools” while it continues its investigation.
