The wife of one of the officers told the BBC that her husband had phoned and instructed her to sell his house to raise ransom. Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather will be returning to the ring with a fight in Tokyo in February 2021. However, his opponent and under what rules he will fight is yet to be mentioned. Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, says family members of those affected by the shooting at Lekki toll gate have refused to speak about the incident “because of the environment under which we operate”. The senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who said the military is “known for lies and deception”, said there must be justice for the victims of Lekki shooting. He spoke at a virtual #EndSARS meeting organised by Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, on Wednesday. Narrating how the Nigerian Army “covered up” the reported killing of 347 Shi’ites in Zaria, Kaduna state, in 2015, Falana said the Lekki incident must not be swept under the carpet. Soldiers had reportedly opened fire on the Shi’ites during a procession at a time the convoy of Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, was passing. Mr. Tade Ipadeola, the lawyer to former Managing Director of Alpha Beta Consulting firm, Dapo Apara has disclosed that court papers containing fraud charges filed against former governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu and the tax consultancy firm were reportedly burnt after the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere was set on fire in the wake of the #EndSARS protests. On Monday morning at the hill-side community of Ala Ugbele Obukpa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, there was confusion as a 23-year-old boy identified as Ikenna Sunday Eze, allegedly committed suicide, Sunday night. Though, he left no suicide note behind, one of his younger brothers, Chidubem Eze, mentioned that he gave a hint about his death the night he took own life. The younger Eze said that the deceased had told his father, Sustainus Eze, to take care of his siblings when he dies, adding that the father didn’t take the statement seriously. When our reporter probed further about his health status, Chidubem said “He has been having insomnia for sometime now but he has been going about his normal businesses. ” No member of the family had any problem with him and there was no misunderstanding whatsoever with anybody in the family as to warrant him taking his life. “When I woke this Monday morning and was about to sweep our compound, I observed that the rope we used in spreading our washed clothes has been cut. ”That was when I remembered what the deceased told my father last night. I went into his room and didn’t see him. I became afraid and informed the household about my observations. We began searching for him and discovered his lifeless body... Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has vowed not to sign off the 2021 budget without adequate provision for compensation of victims of police brutality and demand of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Speaker described EndSARS protesting youths across the country as midwives of national rebirth, saying their agitation has brought about a historical moment in the country. Addressing his colleagues at Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker said: “You (EndSARS protesting youths) have moved a nation to action, and now you must join in doing the hard work of making real the vision of a more just, more prosperous, and more resilient nation. “We see your true cause. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state effective 4pm on Tuesday, October 20. Bill Gates Sr, a lawyer and the father of Microsoft’s co-founder, who stepped in when appeals for charity began to overwhelm his billionaire son and started what became the world’s largest philanthropy, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, died on Monday at his beach home on Hood Canal, in the Seattle area. The cause of Mr. Gates death was Alzheimer’s disease, his family said in an announcement on Tuesday. The Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) has apprehended a middle-aged man who allegedly impersonated as a recruitment officer for the regional security outfit in the state . This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Ibadan by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Wasiu Olatubosun. Olatunbosun said that the suspect, in an attempt to scam potential candidates for the job, on Sunday posted a notice at the Adamasingba Stadium, venue of the recruitment with his name and phone numbers, urging interested people to contact him. The operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Miga, Jigawa state have arrested 40-year-old Usman Sama’ila, for the alleged murder of his seventeen (17) month old stepson, Adamu Gambo. A statement released by the spokesperson of the Jigawa command of NSCDC, SC Adamu Shehu, said the suspect allegedly took his stepson to a farm where he strangled him until he eventually died. The battle for the custody of children between Atiku Abubakar and his wife, Maryam Sheriff has continued after their divorce. Atiku Abubakar is the son of Nigeria’s former Vice-President of the same name. Maryam had in 2019, instituted a case against Abubakar, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, with number CV/41/2019 which was later transferred to the Sharia Court of Appeal, Kubwa, with number CV/16/20202 seeking the court to grant her custody of their three sons. Some traditional worshippers, on Tuesday, held a peaceful march to the Oyo state government secretariat complex at Agodi Ibadan, to protest against alleged discrimination by the state government. The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the protest was organised under the umbrella of Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association, Oyo State. The worshippers in their hundreds carried placards bearing different inscriptions some of which read: “Stop discrimination against traditional religion”, Oyo is a secular state, among others.
