Caveat: I'm not an Igbo smoker neither am I holding brief for them.

Yesterday was a bloody day in Gambari area of ilorin as a team of NDLEA operatives battle a herd of marihuana smokers at one of their 'open smoking joints' around Gambari area of ilorin.
Around 8:13am, not less than 5 men from NDLEA ilorin office entered this smoking conclave and opened fire on about twenty guys doing their things. Immediately these guys recovered from the shock of this preemptive attack, they returned fire and the whole scenario escalated to street guy fight. At around 8.45am, the NDLEA guys escape the conclave in their white hilux pick up van with two of them sustaining gun wound while two of the smokers squad were killed. Consequently, these guys ignited street riots and mounted road blocks. We later learnt that the rampaging guys were Ariyo( a notorious but responsible commander of Gambari formation of street-base thugs.
Ariyo insisted on staging a deadly counter attack on the NDLEA office along sobi road but many are of the opinion that the attack may not materialized due to the nearness of the NDLEA office to the 22 armored brigade(sobi) barrack.
Fellow nairalanders, please it is right for NDLEA operatives to open fire on ordinary Igbo smokers?

I had similar problem at the maxillofacial surgery unit of ABUTH Zaria. I was having this recurrent toothache and I went to hospital. The doctors at the hospital diagnosed my problem as ingrowing wisdom tooth which have to be surgically remove. Since I was on NHIS as student of ABU, my HMO approved the surgery for me only to be told the maxillofacial surgeon that I have to pay for the rentage of drilling machine. I had no money that day so I returned back to the school clinic popularly called sickbay. On getting there I explained my predicament to the head dental surgeon and he told me that he would do the surgery without drilling machine if I could pay 1 thousand naira. After consulting my best friend in school then, I organized the money and entered for the surgery. To my astonishment, this doctor started using what resemble stainless plier and chisel on my tooth after he gave me one injection beneath the tooth.The pain was unbearable and it forced him to stop the surgery halfwAy... I'm still managing my condition using drugs and other necessary things. May the gods bless the Nigerian doctors like the pro-Russian separatists blessed flight mh17

As a student of media studies who is somehow apolitical, let me offer my own view. There is no way any serious politician can ignore the battle for control and manipulation of public opinion. However, starting from the dawn of the 20th century to the twilight of the 21st century, this battle has been shifted from mainstream media to the cyber public sphere. Therefore, the plausibility of social media as the 21st century battle-front of political communication also explains the emergence of paid publicists or spin doctors as foot soldiers ready to do the bidding of their masters on this frontline. Theoretically, we can say that president Jonathan will have a number of paid spin-doctors on nairaland considering the volume of e-bashing against his government and personality emanating from this forum. In the mean time, I'm planning to do my M.sc in Political Communication in Uk and I'm appealing to any political party or politician to come to my aid...
