RIVERS ASSEMBLY TUSSLE: GOV. FUBARA PERFECTS PLANS TO STAGE PROTEST There is a growing concern within the camp of Governor Siminalayi Fubara that the series of losses recorded in the ongoing litigation are clear signs that the government is gradually coming to an end. Rivers Watch reliably gathered that the governor's camp are preparing to stage multiple protests to cry wolf. They have been warned by their lawyers that they have bad cases at different levels of the court, and they cannot win the final battle. We have it on good authority that the first thing they plan to do to water the ground for the protest is to launch a massive campaign of calumny against the judiciary. This we learned is aimed at justifying the planned protest. Governor Fubara and some key members of his kitchen cabinet allegedly met with some media executives and publishers at the government house, Port Harcourt recently to perfect the plan to paint it like the judiciary is against the governor and his administration. Over $500,000 has been earmarked for that purpose. Some selected media houses and public affairs analysts have been commissioned to carry out the attack on the judiciary. We were also informed that there will be a lot of newspaper publications from pseudo groups condemning the judiciary as part of the multidimensional campaign. Every judge handling any case involving the political crisis in Rivers State has been penciled down as a target. Even the Chief Justice of Nigeria and justices of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal will not be spared in the smear campaign. In the coming weeks, all these will unfold to herald their protest all in a bid to whip up sentiments to gain public sympathy, we gathered. Recall that on October 30, 2023, Rivers State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule removed Edison Ehie as Leader of the House, suspended him and three others following the burning of the hallowed chamber of the assembly. Moments later, Edison Ehie declared himself the Speaker. Governor Fubara went on to present the 2024 appropriation bill to him and three other suspended lawmakers. An action that Justice Omotoso of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja nullified in its entirety, and declared that Mr. Ehie was never elected speaker of the house, in his ruling in January 2024. Instead of obeying the ruling, Governor Fubara chose to appoint Oko Jumbo as speaker with two others as members of the assembly. On two separate occasions, the Court of Appeal has ruled that Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule is the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. One was the squashing of the ex parte order granted by Justice Wali of the Rivers State High Court that Oko Jumbo relied on, for lacking jurisdiction, the other was the affirming of the judgment of Justice Omotoso of the Federal High Court. |

Rivers crisis: We stand with Wike, Rivers elders declare Rivers state elders on Wednesday weighed into the political situation in the state, and affirmed their support for the Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, while urging the state Government, Sim Fubara to take immediate steps to correct the false narratives against the minister to give room for reconciliation. At a news conference in Abuja, the elders whose position was declared by Chief Ferdinand Alabraba cautioned Fubara’s “newfound friends” to retrace their steps before throwing the state into avoidable chaos. He said Fubara misread a completely legislative plot as an existential threat. Those who signed the speech included HRH Oha Sergent Awuse, Chief O.C.J. Okocha, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, Rt. Hon. OK Chinda, Sen. Barry Mpigi, Sen. Alwell Oyesoh and Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo. Others were Sen. Adawari Pepple, Sen. Olaka Nwogu, Prince Emma Anyanwu, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, Bro. Felix Obuah, Hon. Ken Chikere, Hon. Felix Nweke, Hon. Frank Owhor, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, Hon. Dum Dekor, Chief Ejor Ngowah Ejor, Hon. Marcus Nle-Eji, Hon. Boma Iyaye and Hon. Kenneth Kobani. According to them, Wike remained the undisputed leader that produced the governor, all assembly members all 23 Local Government chairmen and the entire councillors of the LGs. Alabraba said; “We have followed with discomfort, the recent events in our state that have culminated in the desecration and arson on the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly; the removal of the leader of the Assembly, Hon. Edisson Ehie, his suspension along with three others, the counteractions of Hon. Ehie and his trio group with his claim of the impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule; the suspension of some members loyal to the Speaker Amaewhule with the elevation of Hon. Ehie to the position of Speaker. “We have also followed the public appearance and speech of the Governor of Rivers State at Government House and the State Assembly complex and his encounter with the Police. “We are aware of the various allegations that these unfortunate events are linked to the former Governor of the State and Minister of the FCT, H.E Nyesom Wike. “We have listened to the various insinuations of ethnic undertone, specifically that Governor Fubara is Ijaw and is marked for impeachment to pave the way for the continuation of Ikwerre Governorship. “We met with our Governor, H.E. Siminilaye Fubara and the Honourable Minister, H. E. Nyesom Wike and resolved that H. E. Nyesom Wike is the undisputed leader of the political family that produced Governor Sim Fubara, the three Senators, eleven Members of the House of Representatives, all thirty-two members of the State Assembly, all twenty-three local government chairmen and the entire councillors of the 23 LGAs in Rivers State”. According to him, Fubara and all the above-elected office-holders in Rivers State belong to the same political family and are “bound by our philosophy to transform, build, develop, and create the Rivers State of our dreams in consonance with our New Rivers Vision devoid of ethnicity, tribe, creed or gender”. The elders disclosed that they are aware that there was a pre-existing problem between Hon. Ehie, the then majority leader of the House of Assembly and his colleagues which culminated in his removal; and that to forestall Hon. Ehie’s impending removal, the chambers of the Assembly was burnt and Governor Fubara believed that Hon. Ehie’s removal was a precursor to his impeachment; “The misrepresentation of the internal wranglings among the members prompted the Governor’s immediate intervention making him characterize a purely legislative broil as an existential threat. This caused the Governor and his newly assembled supporters to give the actions of the assembly members an ethnic colouration and prompted youths of Ijaw extraction to rally behind the Governor in the name of Ijaw nationalism. “The hasty reaction of the Governor has now pitched him H.E. Sim Fubara and the State Assembly members in an all-out battle that has led to the activation of the process of impeachment of the Governor; That the Governor neither sought the help, clarification or intervention of H.E. Nyesom Wike or the elders on these developments, nor did he discourage damaging lies to be peddled against H.E. Nyesom Wike. “H.E. Nyesom Wike has been viciously attacked by sections of the media and public as the evil mastermind of a scheme or series of events he was neither involved in nor privy to. “False stories were peddled that H.E. Wike demanded money from the Governor to discredit him before a gullible public. “We confirm that the allegations are wicked, unfair and satanic. The Governor being aware of the lies and not debunking them showed bad faith and ingratitude”, they added. According to them, Governor Fubara is aware that Wike invested heavily in the infrastructural development of Rivers State, as he was selfless and applied the funds of the State judiciously. “He did not steal nor misappropriate Rivers State funds. To insinuate that today, or create the impression he was asking for money is most unfortunate”, he added. The elders noted that Wike has consistently fought for and defended the interests of Rivers State. Alabraba said; “At our visit to H.E. Nyesom Wike, elders assured him of our steadfast, complete and undiluted loyalty. We apologized for the embarrassment caused him by the Governor, H.E. Sim Fubara and all others who played various roles in the unfortunate drama. We vehemently condemn the intrusion by some Ijaw leaders from other States who so soon have forgotten that it was H.E. Wike who insisted on producing a Rivers Governor of Ijaw extraction and paid a heavy political price in the process. “H.E. Wike has since facilitated the appointments of more Ijaw sons including Hon. Boma Iyaye as the Executive Director, Finance, NDDC and Hon. Rufus Godwins Ngerewaji as member of Federal Civil Service Commission. He has done more for Ijaw sons and ethnic nationalities than most of these leaders. “H.E. Wike’s efforts to make Sim Fubara Governor were rejected and opposed largely by Ijaws than any other tribe or ethnic group; “On the Assembly, we confirm that Rt. Hon. M. Amaewhule is the authentic Speaker and Hon. Ehie and company are validly suspended. “In conclusion, we wish to once again express our gratitude to H.E. Wike for the audience and amiable disposition to continue to work selflessly for our State and accept the mediation of the elders. We urge H.E. Sim Fubara to take urgent steps to correct the false narrative against H.E. N. Wike thus providing a window for mediatory talks and a way forward. “We advise those encouraging H.E. Sim Fubara to engage in a needless and fruitless battle with H.E. Wike to desist forthwith and allow the Governor to concentrate on consolidating on the extraordinary achievements of H.E. Wike while he was governor. “Our pact with Rivers people is unbroken. They gave us a mandate in the last election on the back of our achievements under H.E. Wike and trust that the candidate from our political family will continue these good works. “We caution the new friends of Governor Sim Fubara to retrace their steps before they throw the state into deeper crisis. We stand with H. E. Wike and Rivers State”, they added. |

BUT FOR OBI, NORTH WOULD HAVE RETAINED POWER AFTER BUHARI-WIKE *Describes Obi as hero of 2023 presidential election Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has described the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, as the hero of the 2023 presidential election. Governor Wike said the decision of Mr Peter Obi to contest the presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party, primarily prevented the north from retaining power after the end of President Muhammadu Buhari's tenure. The Rivers State governor made the commendation during interactive meeting with Technical Dealers Association of Nigeria, Computer Dealers Association, Garrison Phone Dealers Association and Building Materials Traders Association in Port Harcourt on Saturday. Governor Wike explained that contrary to insinuation that he did not support Peter Obi, what most people failed to realise is that the Labour Party presidential candidate remains his hero of the election. "Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North. The whole of South -South and South-East that PDP lost, if Obi did not contest PDP would have won." He further added, "The hero is this election is Obi whether you like it or not. I am not here to please you, Obi is the hero. He may not have been pronounced as the winner, no problem, the law will take its course. If Obi did not run this election, power would have remained in the North. Whether he declared a winner now or not, history will be on his side that he fought and fought well." The Rivers State governor said the reason why he did not publicly declare support for any presidential candidate was because the PDP G-5 governors had unanimously agreed to ensure the emergence of a president from southern Nigeria to succeed President Buhari. Governor Wike, said while members of the G-5 governors assiduously worked for power to return to the South, the likes of former Rivers State governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, who is now soliciting for Igbo to support APC candidate, Tonye Cole, mobilised votes for Atiku Abubakar. "If Amaechi loves the Igbos, why did he not support Obi? Instead, he supported Atiku. He did not want power to return to the South because he lost APC ticket." The governor said the reason why Amaechi is deliberately canvassing support for Tonye Cole is because he wants stall their on going prosecution for embezzling $50M from the Rivers State government coffers. Governor Wike urged Igbos in Rivers State to be wary of Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation for over seven years, but failed to revive eastern ports and railway lines from Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt. The governor recalled that when Amaechi was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, he vehemently opposed plan to compensate Igbos who lost their property in the State during the civil war. According to him, it is absolutely mischievous for Amaechi, who also served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015, to wake up in 2023 to resurrect the issue of abandoned property because of his inordinate political ambition. The governor announced the allocation of 150 plots of land to the Computer Dealers Association and 30 plots to Computer Dealers Association to develop an industrial park in Port Harcourt. Chairmen of the Computer Dealers Association, Mr Anunobi Ikechi and Building Materials Traders Association, Okwudiri Onuorah , assured the governor of their support for the Rivers State PDP governorship candidate, Sir Siminialayi Fubara , in the 18 March , 2023 election. AGAIN, WIKE DARES THOSE THREATENING TO EXPEL HIM FROM PDP *Accuses Atiku of meeting APC governors, denies granting BBC interview Rivers State governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has challenged those threatening to expel him from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead and try it if they can. Governor Wike gave the challenge at the Eneka Road Roundabout, venue of the flag-off ceremony for the construction of Eneka -Igbo Etche Road dualisation project Governor Wike, who insisted that he is unperturbed about the threat of expulsion, however, wondered why those desiring to expel him are displaying anxiety instead of acting out their threat, and see if they will survive it. According to him, “when the time comes, we will know who has capacity and who does not have capacity.” The Rivers State governor also reiterated the minimum demand of the members of the G5 group, which is the resignation of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman of PDP to allow for a southerner to occupy the office. “We have made our demand and our demand is the national chairman must come to the south. Its non-negotiable. If you say you don’t care, no problem. Lets go the field. No need to begin to threat people you will do this, you will do that.” In retrospect, governor Wike recalled how between 2002 and 2003 former President Olusegun Obasanjo knelt down to beg his then vice, now PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to support his second term bid and the conditions the latter gave to him. “You[HO1] say we are giving condition, but you forget history. In 2002- 2003 when president Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to run for second tenure, he knelt down before his vice president and said my vice please allow me to run. You know one of the conditions he gave him, Tony Anenih must be sacked as the Minister of Works and Tony Anenih must not be in the presidential campaign council. Obasanjo obliged and sacked Tony Anenih as Minister of Works and removed him from presidential campaign council.” He expressed surprise over the undying interest by those who said they have moved ahead and do not need the G5 group to win the 2023 election. He wondered why those antagonistic to the G5 are always sniffing around to uncover any latest move made by the group. Governor Wike queried why they are bothering themselves about where the G5 goes, what it says and which person they chose to speak with. The governor noted that even as G5 travelled recently to the Europe, some people including the Arise TV and other media outfits speculated and insinuated so many unfounded things without a proof of any pictorial or audio, to affirm their claims that the G5 met with a presidential candidate in Europe. “They said I had conversation with BBC, where is the picture, where is the video? You know these days we don't have journalists again, we have press men. You can see people not being able to give out correct information. You see newspapers houses that are now running election. You see television houses standing for election. “Wike had interview with BBC. Wike said we had a deal with so, so and so. Meanwhile no video, no audio. And some of you waste your time to listen to such things. Don't you know that when I want to do something I'll do it. Don't you know? Do you need to speculate? You don't need to speculate. They say there is trouble, there is no trouble. What we have is introduction to trouble that will come.” In any case, Governor Wike wondered why the fume if he had to, if true, meet with any person including the APC presidential candidate, whereas the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , who has been meeting with APC governors is not questioned. “What is your problem assuming that there was a meeting. Has Atiku not been holding meetings with governors of APC? Ask him. As he is in Dubai, don't we know what is going on? So, why do you bother about us, G-5 that you say you can win without us. Leave us alone.” The Rivers State governor took on Prince Uche Secondus, the former national chairman of PDP, who claimed that he is his benefactor, and said it is a lie. He stated that at no point in his political career did Prince Uche Secondus sponsored him to any political office except for the fact that he accompanied him on some lobbying trips. Governor Wike insisted that he is rather the benefactor to Prince Uche Secondus because against fierce opposition and rejection from the likes of Sule Lamido, Austin Opara, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia and Lee Maeba, he sponsored him to become the national chairman of PDP and removed him later when he wanted to make his nephew governor of Rivers State. “You wanted to be national chairman first to impose your nephew or your cousin as you may call him to become governorship candidate of PDP in Rivers State. I said not here, it won’t work. We had to kick out first and we did, and you are out.” He listed the Nsirim, Senator John Mbata and the Dr. Odili's families as sponsors at various times of his political dreams that had made him what he has become. The governor emphasised that Prince Uche Secondus was awarded several contracts worth about N50B in Rivers State and had been paid a total sum of N43.9B, but he has never completed any of the projects and can also not account for money received. Providing a description of the project, Dr. George -Kelly Dakorinima Alabo said the Eneka Igbo Etche Road is going to be dualised and is 5KM long. He explained that already the contractor, Monier Construction Company has been mobilised to site and the project is expected to be completed in five months period. Joe Igbokwe on Amaechi.... --You asked for it and I will give it to you. You Principal Hon Rotimi Amaechi is hard working Minister, smart but he has a very bad temperament. He is so full of himself and very arrogant without looking at the other side of the story. He feels he is the best man in the world. Governance is all about Teamwork. You think in terms of others. As Governor he fought with the Chief Judge of Rivers, he Fought with former Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mbu to a standstill. He fought his close associate Nyesom Wike , the Governor of Rivers State and the aftermath caused APC to loose Rivers State to PDP to the extent that APC was not on the ballot in 2019. It was a colossal loss and since then APC Rivers has never been the same again. My personal encounter with Hon Amaechi was in 2019 at Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos. President BUHARI came to campaign in Lagos. I think Hon Amaechi was heading the Campaign Organization then. As the Pub Sec of APC Lagos I was on the podium with other speakers and MCs. As soon as it was announced that President is coming Hon Amaechi began to chase people away from the stage. He came to me and asked me to leave. I told him that Iam the Pub Sec of APC Lagos I needed to be where I am . He flew up said: “If you do not leave here now I will unleash Soldiers on you. My Children, three of them were on the gallery watching with curiosity. When I saw his eyes I needed nobody to tell me to leave because my boys would have felt bad and humiliated if soldiers descend on me. I quietly left the stage. Hon Amaechi rattled me and I was shocked to the marrows. He could not even listen to any explanation or what you want to say. He had his way in Lagos where I hold fort. There was also another similar event in 2019 at Agege Stadium Lagos organized by Hausa/Fulani in Lagos led by Hon Kabiru Mohammed , now Commissioner for Water front Lagos for President Buhari. As soon as Hon Amaechi arrived he ordered all the leaders of AREWA Community in who were already on the Podium to step down. Kabiru stood his ground. He told Hon Amaechi that they used their money to organize the event and therefore cannot be harassed out of the podium. It was a big harassment but Kabiru stood his ground and did not leave even when other leaders scampered away. What point am l making here? A good leader listens, he bows to superior arguments, he treats people well , he thinks in terms of others, he recognizes the rights of others, he loves teamwork, he is a problem solver, he makes friends easily, he loves without condition, he allows free speech, he is not all knowing , he pays attention to details , he identifies talents and reward them accordingly. Please tell your Principal to look back and reflect. His body language suggests he thinks he is the best God ever created. It is causing serious problems in Rivers State today. Many of his followers have that bad temperament too. This is the reason I chased some of them away from my page. Joe Igbokwe |
