Just look how dirty & dilapidated the environment is.

The tanker driver wasn't patient. He should have waited till midnight before ramming into a house filled with sleeping occupants.

Anyway, I hope the Alhaji insured his fuel & vehicle because that's the most important thing right now.

Nairaland / General / BREAKING: Several Killed In Shooting At Florida Video Game Event by xxolisexx(m): 8:35pm On Aug 26, 2018
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45315970
Several people have been killed in a mass shooting at an entertainment complex in Jacksonville, Florida, police say.
The sheriff's office said on Twitter that many people had been wounded and urged people to avoid the area.
They said a suspect was dead at the scene.
Reports suggest the shooting happened during a video game tournament being held at the Jacksonville Landing.
Dozens of shots can be heard in a video that appears to show the event being streamed online on the Twitch platform.
The players were reportedly playing the American football game Madden at the time.
Drini Gjoka, a 19-year-old player taking part, described the shooting in a series of posts on Twitter, calling it "the worst day of [his] life".
"I am literally so lucky. The bullet hit my thumb," he tweeted.
The local sheriff's office said Swat teams were searching the area for potential further suspects.
Police said on Twitter that "many people" were still hiding in locked areas of the complex, and urged them to stay calm.
The Jacksonville Landing is a large shopping and dining complex built along the St John's River in the city's downtown.

Travel / Re: U.S: Airline Employee Steals And Crashes Plane by xxolisexx(m): 2:46pm On Aug 11, 2018
The Seattle Times describes the man as sounding "carefree and wild".
What did the eyewitnesses see?
Eyewitness John Waldron told CNN he watched the plane do "a complete loop", before it went "pretty much straight up. And kind of at an angle. And almost stalled the aircraft".
"Somehow he got it levelled back off," he told the broadcaster. "And then made his way down toward the island."
At one point, he estimated, the plane was no more than 100ft (30.5m) above the water.
Leah Morse, who filmed the jet flying overhead, told news agency Reuters she felt in her "gut something was wrong" after spotting the plane.
Ms Morse's mother, who lives closer to the area where the plane went down, said her whole house shook.
"We saw the jets circle back after and she texted that there was no plane," she added.
How did this happen?
Alaska Airlines said the plane was taken from a "maintenance position " in the airport. However, how it came to be on the runway is unclear.
Planes of this size do not come with keys, aviation safety investigator David Gleave, of Loughborough University, explained to the BBC.
But after he managed to start the plane, taking off and flying it around would not have been that difficult, Mr Gleave said.
"There is an awfully big amount of sky to play with," he explained. "Getting the thing back down again is where all the mechanical skills come in."
As for air traffic control, it would have taken them less than a minute to realise something had gone wrong, Mr Gleave added.
What happens next?
The FBI has taken over the investigation, according to the local police department.
Alaska said it was "working closely with the authorities and our own safety teams to thoroughly understand this incident".
Travel / U.S: Airline Employee Steals And Crashes Plane by xxolisexx(m): 2:44pm On Aug 11, 2018
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45153535
An airline employee who stole an empty passenger plane from Seattle airport has crashed on a nearby island.
Authorities said the man had made "an unauthorised take-off" late on Friday local time, forcing Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to close.
Two F15 fighter jets pursued the plane, which crashed in Puget Sound. The man is not believed to have survived.
The local sheriff's office said it was "not a terrorist incident", adding that the man was local and aged 29.
Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor later told reporters it appeared to be "a joyride gone terribly wrong" , according to ABC7 News, adding "most terrorists don't do loops over the water".
What happened exactly?
The twin engine turboprop Bombardier Q400 belonging to Alaska Airlines' sister carrier Horizon Air took off from Seattle-Tacoma at about 20:00 local time (03:00 GMT).
Ben Schaechter was on a plane which was apparently taxiing down the runway as the stolen plane took off.
"Okay this insane," he tweeted. "A pilot on the plane in front of us just went rogue and took off on an empty plane bypassing orders from the tower. The tower ordered a full stop and they're trying to communicate with that pilot. Whaaaaaat!"
The two fighter jets were quickly scrambled. A number of videos showed them following the passenger plane, which was flying over the area in an erratic manner.
Neither of the fighter jets was involved in the crash when the plane came down about an hour later in the south of Ketron Island, about 30 miles (48km) south of the airport, officials said.
Sheriff Pastor told KIRO7 news station in Seattle the man had most likely been killed in the crash.
Why did he steal the plane?
It isn't immediately clear. However, an audio recording of the conversations he had with air traffic control give some insight into what happened on the plane after the Horizon Air employee took off.
In the recording, the man can be heard starting to worry about how much fuel he had on board. He also suggests he could land the aircraft by himself because he had played "some video games".

Sports / ASABA ATHLETICS 2018: Kenyan Athlete Dies In Road Crash by xxolisexx(m): 9:50am On Aug 10, 2018
Kenya’s former 400m hurdles world champion Nicholas Bett has died in a road accident, aged 28, the country’s Ministry of Sports and Heritage said yesterday. Bett died in a road accident near the town of Lessos, in Nandi County , Kenya, in the early morning of 8 August 2018. He had arrived back from the 2018 African Championships in Athletics in Nigeria two days earlier, and was driving along the Kapsabet to Eldoret road on his way back to Nairobi. According to the local police commander, Bett lost control of his car, a Toyota Prado SUV, which then hit a bump in the road and landed in a ditch, killing the athlete on the spot.
“Former 400m hurdles World Champion Nicholas Bett has died in a road accident… On behalf of the sporting fraternity and @moscakenya, I convey my sincerest condolences to his family. Rest in peace,” Kenya sports cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa said on Twitter.
The Ministry of Sports and Heritage later retweeted the message from their official handle. Athletics Kenya also confirmed the news, reports Reuters.
Bett won the 400m hurdles at the 2015 world championships in Beijing to give Kenya their first gold medal at a distance shorter than 800m.
His twin brother Haron Koech is also a hurdler.

The Stephen Keshi Stadium, venue of the championship has been fully equipped and ready to host Africa as the Delta State Government is not leaving anything to chance in ensuring that all that were necessary to have a successful event are put in place.
The State Government, as part of preparation for the hosting, has embarked on the construction and maintenance of some internal roads in Asaba to reduce traffic on the busy Nnembisi road. It has also given the State capital a facelift through the beautification of the city.

Sports / Re: WORLD CUP: JAPAN FANS IMPRESS BY CLEANING UP STADIUM by xxolisexx(m): 9:42am On Jun 20, 2018
A habit built from childhood

It is something that comes as a surprise to many foreigners attending matches in Japan.
"They might leave a bottle or some kind of food package on the ground and then it's often the case that people get tapped on the shoulder by Japanese people indicating they should clean up or take it home but can't leave it there," Mr McIntyre says.
It's a habit drilled into Japanese people from early childhood.
"Cleaning up after football matches is an extension of basic behaviours that are taught in school, where the children clean their school classrooms and hallways," explains Scott North, professor of sociology at Osaka University.
"With constant reminders throughout childhood, these behaviours become habits for much of the population."
What do fans make of the fact their post-match cleaning spree becomes a regular hit on social media? If anything, they're proud.
"In addition to their heightened consciousness of the need to be clean and to recycle, cleaning up at events like the World Cup is a way Japanese fans demonstrate pride in their way of life and share it with the rest of us," explains Prof North.
"What better place to make a statement about the need to care responsibly for the planet than the World Cup?" he adds.
It doesn't mean that there is any more or less passion, insists Mr McIntyre. It's simply that passion doesn't slip into neglect of basic rules of behaviour let alone violence.
"I know it may sounds bland and boring, but this is the reality of a country that's built on respect and politeness," he laughs. "And this simply extends to doing respectful things in football."
"I think it's a wonderful thing that the World Cup brings so many nations and people together and get to learn and exchange these kinds of things. That's the beauty of football."

Can Nigeria fans do this even if we win our matches, cant say much; our environment alone can speak for it self...
Sports / WORLD CUP: JAPAN FANS IMPRESS BY CLEANING UP STADIUM by xxolisexx(m): 9:39am On Jun 20, 2018
After a heated World Cup match, the stands are usually left with food waste, cups and wrappers scattered in the heat of the moment.
Japanese fans certainly had reason to go wild on Tuesday night. Their side won their opening game, beating Colombia 2-1, and securing the team's first victory against a South American side.
But after the team swept Colombia off the pitch, Japanese fans also did their share of sweeping: meticulously cleaning up their rows and seats in the stadium.
Equipped with large rubbish bags they brought along, the fans marched through the rows picking up rubbish, to leave the place just as neat as they had found it.
And not for the first time - supporters of the "Samurai Blue" have never failed to stick to their good manners.
"It's not just part of the football culture but part of Japanese culture," Japan-based football journalist Scott McIntyre told the BBC. He is in Russia following the team and was not at all surprised by the somewhat different nature of Samurai Blue fans.
"You often hear people say that football is a reflection of culture. An important aspect of Japanese society is making sure that everything is absolutely clean and that's the case in all sporting events and certainly also in football."

Sports / WORLD CUP: MEXICO FANS' CELEBRATION CAUSE EARTHQUAKE Bbc by xxolisexx(m): 5:58am On Jun 19, 2018
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-44517864
Mexican football fans could hardly contain their joy when Hirving Lozano scored a goal against Germany in Mexico's opening game of the World Cup.
Supporters of the team jumped into the air when the ball hit the net in the 35th minute.
But did their jubilant stomping really cause an earthquake as some media have reported?
A tweet from Mexico's Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Investigations would suggest so.
The tweet by the institute, which monitors seismic activity, reads: "Artificial quake in Mexico City due to celebration of goal by the Mexican team in the game against Germany during the 2018 World Cup in Russia."
The image highlights the moment of the goal with a red rectangle on the seismogram. This shows localised shaking near the seismometer.

What really happened?
The institute confirms that two of its seismometers local to celebrating fans picked up ground movement immediately after the winning goal against the defending champions.
"During the game, the Mexican team managed to score 35 minutes and seven seconds in, at this moment our monitoring systems detected a seismic movement with an acceleration of 37m/s2 picked up by at least two sensors inside Mexico City. These were very probably produced by the massive celebrations," the blog reads.
The Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Investigations then goes on to clarify that "such events are not at all big".
It points out that only very sensitive equipment located near celebrating crowds would pick up such activity.
One of the main sites where fans gathered, Mexico City's Angel of Independence statue, is not far from one of the seismometers which registered the movement.
Was it a quake or not?
On its blog, the Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Investigations makes it clear that such events cannot be felt by the general population.
"These [events] can't be measured in magnitudes, which is why they are not called quakes, or if they are, they have to be accompanied by the word 'artificial' to show clearly that it is not a geological event," the blog explains.
How wild were the celebrations?
Judge for yourself:
Has something like this happened before?
Yes, a 1988 college American football game between Louisiana State University and Auburn was dubbed "Earthquake Game" after an LSU touchdown in the last minutes of the game caused fans in Tiger Stadium to erupt in such celebrations that it was picked up by a seismometer in the university's geosciences complex.
A blip coinciding with the winning touchdown could be seen on the seismograph.
More recently, Leicester City fans caused a tremor when they celebrated a last-minute goal against Norwich in 2016.
Leicester City fans caused 'earthquake' after last minute winner
As in Mexico City and at Louisiana State University, it was picked up by a seismometer installed near celebrating fans.
