Abuja PDP convention 2016 live on AIT.... Ibrahim mantu just spoken. |
"Words of wisdom" from a great leader....... RIP sir! |
The aim of a leader should be the welfare of the people whom he leads. I have used ‘welfare’ to denote the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the people. With this aim fixed unflinchingly and unchangeably before my eyes I consider it my duty to Yoruba people in particular and to Nigerians in general, to place four imperatives before you this morning. Two of them are categorical and two are conditional. Only a peaceful solution must be found to arrest the present worsening stalemate and restore normalcy. The Eastern Region must be encouraged to remain part of the Federation. If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt out of Nigeria, then the Western Region and Lagos must also stay out of the Federation. The people of Western Nigeria and Lagos should participate in the ad hoc committee or any similar body only on the basis of absolute equality with the other regions of the Federation. I would like to comment briefly on these four imperatives. There has, of late, been a good deal of sabre rattling in some parts of the country. Those who advocate the use force for the settlement of our present problems should stop a little and reflect. I can see no vital and abiding principle involved in any war between the North and the East. If the East attacked the North, it would be for purpose of revenge pure and simple. Any claim to the contrary would be untenable. If it is claimed that such a war is being waged for the purpose of recovering the real and personal properties left behind in the North by Easterners two insuperable points are obvious. Firstly, the personal effects left behind by Easterners have been wholly looted or destroyed, and can no longer be physically recovered. Secondly, since the real properties are immovable in case of recovery of them can only be by means of forcible military occupation of those parts of the North in which these properties are situated. On the other hand, if the North attacked the East, it could only be for the purpose of further strengthening and entrenching its position of dominance in the country. If it is claimed that an attack on the East is going to be launched by the Federal Government and not by the North as such and that it is designed to ensure the unity and integrity of the Federation, two other insuperable points also become obvious. First, if a war against the East becomes a necessity it must be agreed to unanimously by the remaining units of the Federation. In this connection, the West, Mid- West and Lagos have declared their implacable opposition to the use of force in solving the present problem. In the face of such declarations by three out of remaining four territories of Nigeria, a war against the East could only be a war favoured by the North alone. Second, if the true purpose of such a war is to preserve the unity and integrity of the Federation, then these ends can be achieved by the very simple devices of implementing the recommendation of the committee which met on August 9 1966, as reaffirmed by a decision of the military leaders at Aburi on January 5 1967 as well as by accepting such of the demands of the East, West, Mid-West and Lagos as are manifestly reasonable, and essential for assuring harmonious relationships and peaceful co-existence between them and their brothers and sisters in the North. http://www.uhurutimes.com/pre-biafra-war-obafemi-awolowos-speech-to-western-nigeria-leaders-of-thought/

MrHenri:lol bros wake up! Donald Duke didn't have what it takes to play northern ethics politics...... |
YelloweWest:bros, that not buhari oooooo minister of interior made the mistake and he apologies immediately. |
Incredible. We were told a Buhari Presidency would restore our pride by not selling us for his own personal endorsement. Let us see if Buhari would be his father's son on this, or he would prefer Cameron's endorsement over the pride of Nigeria. |
Amnesty? One of them even floated a private University and got an approval through Jonathan Administration, the one that single handedly promised to bring Nigeria down if Jonathan is not made the president,,, can you just imagine the level of insult ",,,,,,,,ni ilu ti o ni Oba ti o ni ljoye? Aye GBA KINNI KAN tan,o fe ko ile lgunnu,,,,," Ki omi tuntun yara Ru ni o!!! |
This is not an indictment of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. No. Far from it. The man sincerely wanted to stop Niger Delta militancy. However about 8 years after, Nigeria seems to be suffering some unintended consequences of that action. Our leader, late Uncle Bola Ige said circa 1982, that you do not reward violence; for rewarded violence often begets more violence. This was his reaction to the Ife/Modakeke crisis of 1982 which was so bloody that Ige himself almost lost his life in the melee. However, the Honourable Gentleman who represented Modakeke Constituency in the old Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Wole Odelola was not that lucky. He died in the riots. One demand that the Modakekes made of the Oyo State Governor then, Chief Bola Ige, was that he gave them a separate Local Government away from the fiefdom of Ile Ife. Bola Ige said no. His government would not grant the request of the Modakekes. To do that would mean an encouragement of more communities to go violent in the pursuit of their aspirations – no matter how legitimate. Fast forward 26 years to 2008. President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s government came out with a series of concessions to the Niger Delta militants who were busy sabotaging Nigeria’s oil production. He called it Amnesty program. As at then, Nigeria was not producing crude at its full installed capacity. This had a telling effect on our oil earnings which contribute almost 80% of our GDP. That was the first time a Nigerian President entertained barely-literatewarlords at the Aso Rock Villa. Even though Yar’Adua passed on about a year later, his successor, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who hails from the Niger Delta state of Bayelsa, continued the well-applauded Amnesty Program. With it, many ex-militants were put on a payroll and a number of them went on trainings abroad to acquire skills with which they could live a decent lifestyle. Now we hear of another group, Niger Delta Avengers. Many people believe that the NDAs are a set of people who just want to hold Nigeria to ransom. They maintain that if Yar’Adua had not sharpened their teeth with the Amnesty program thereby making violence profitable (unlike Ige’s belief in 1982), a new group would not have the audacity to come up again. They have blown up oil pipelines. This has severely undermined our crude production capacities again. They have equally sabotaged gas pipelines and this has undermined our power generation efforts. They have hit Nigeria where it hurts! President Muhammadu Buhari has responded. With force. Troops have reportedly invaded Gbaramatu LG area of Delta State looking for these scavengers who pose as avengers. I do not think any right-thinking Nigerian should object to this. There is a clarion call on our youths not to be involved in any action that will undermine the Nigerian state. I do not claim any authority or right to mentor all Nigerian youths but as an elderly Yoruba man our culture mandates me to correct our youths as ‘agba kii wa l’oja ki ori omo tuntun o wo’ (The elder in the marketplace, should ensure a baby is well-backed). I shall, in the next few days, be engaging our youths on my page here on the issue of peace, first in Yorubaland and of course in Nigeria generally. May God please bring peace to Nigeria by judging this nation quickly. |

cap28:Mr sadiq khan key policies are namely: 1) Addressing the housing crisis. 2) Freezing transport fares. 3) Creating job opportunities for Londoners. 4) Cutting pollution. “I want all Londoners to have the same opportunities that our city gave me, a home they can afford, a high-skilled job with decent pay, an affordable and modern transport system and a safe, clean and healthy environment.” - From Khan’s manifesto Sadiq Khan says his " single biggest priority" will be to build new homes, with Londoners getting "first dibs" on them. He also wants to bring in a "London Living Rent" for some homes, which can be rented privately at rates that are based on one-third of average local wages. The central part of Mr Khan's plans for public transport is to freeze all public transport fares for four years. |
cap28:Sadiq Khan did not just come out of the blues to win the mayoral election. He is a thoroughbred politician. He is a Member of Parliament representing Tooting. He has been Minister of State for Communities, Minister of State for Transport and has also been Shadow Minister twice. He was also a Shadow Lord Chancellor. |
@ cap28! Sadiq Khan isn't just a migrant's son but the father was a mere bus driver and like Leicester City Football Club, he defeated billionaire's son to emerge the Mayor of London. Note just our leaders should take a cue from this but the hungry and greedy electorates that sell their votes |
Con beauty of matured and peaceful democracy even though therevwere challenges Mr Sadiq Khan won brilliantly. What will be will be. |
Khan, the new Mayor of London from the quiet election with no god father, no party investors, no prejudice, nobody to throw anybody into the lagoon for the Bus driver's son from Pakistan... Congratulations. What a good DEMOCRACY....... It could be my son tomorrow.

• Agoro accuses Senate President of turning courts into theatres Different reactions continue to trail Senate President Bukola Saraki’s call on the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to rescind its decision on the appointment of Mohammed Sani-Omolori as the Acting Clerk of the upper chamber. Two groups, Youth for Peace Nigeria and Concerned Southerners Forum yesterday asked the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Dr. Adamu Fika, to correct what they described as administrative errors in the appointment of Clerk to the National Assembly or step aside. Chief Moses Erebi, who spoke on behalf of the two groups alleged, that in 2014, Fika approved the appointment of Mohammed Sani-Omolori as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly without consulting other commissioners as required by the Act establishing the commission. However, taking a different position, a non-governmental organization (NGO) Perfect House of Friends (PHF) described Dr. Saraki’s directive as a usurpation of the constitutional powers of the Commission by the Senate. PHF President Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed said the directive was a violation of Section 8 of the Act that set up the Commission, which confers on it, the power to make appointments, disciplinary control over persons without being subjected to the direction or control of any authority or persons. Meanwhile, presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro yesterday accused Senate President Bukola Saraki of turning his ongoing trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) into a “theatre of the absurd, allegedly harassing judges and the temple of justice with numerous applications. Dr. Agoro said in a statement in Ibadan that in the annals of socio-political and historical development of Nigeria, no one on record would be found and or could be said to have brazenly held a “sharp-edged knife to the jugular of the nation’s judicial system like Saraki.” “Incidentally President Muhammadu Buhari now Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces also went through harrowing and painful experience of court trials in the attempt to claim his mandate but without ever contemplating holding the judiciary by the jugular,” Agoro said. Apparently taking a cue from the CCT trial, Chairman, Senate Committee on Air force, Senator Duro Faseyi, has threatened that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) will take control of the upper legislative chamber if Dr. Saraki is removed as Senate President. http://guardian.ng/news/groups-differ-over-sarakis-rejection-of-national-assemblys-ag-clerk/ |

So no case here! |
Inspectahdeck:stop all this media hype! Gov. Obiano can never do half of infrastructure that gov.aregbesola did in his first tenure in osun state! Quote me anywhere...... Osogbo indigene will do me justice to my claims. |
