Phones › Re: What Is The Best Age For A Girl To Get A Phone? by yak(m): 8:16am On Jun 11, 2025 |
Psoul: Most of the comments I see here are so discouraging.
We are in tech generation and denying a child early knowledge of these tech will be a kind of set back for them.
All we need to do is work on ourselves who are parents. Most of us have failed in good parenting and now we want to push it to our children.
If you can parent your children relatively well, most of our fears will be reduced.
We see children from advanced countries developing Apps and other lovely computerized gadgets at age 5 and above. If these devices were taken away from them, how will the do that?
Parenting is the problem and not the children. Do you, as a parent, have what it takes to direct the minds of your children to the right thing to a point that, even if you're not there, they'll be scared to do what they know you wouldn't like to see them do?
For me, I allowed them have access to phone and I'm very strict on what and limit I want them to use them. They don't go to school with it. They have Desktop computers at home where they use in most of their activities like homeworks and other school activities. I exposed them earlier to the gadgets. I started teaching them programming very early in life. The two youngest are 11(JSS1) and 13 years old (JSS3). I love their progress in tech.
The 11yo wake up one day to tell me she want to study Coding and Robotics in the university. I was marveled cos I never discussed such with her before. When they talk, you'll hear them talking more of techs and the way the solve issues are very great.
Let your children have access to phone as soon as they can understand it's usage. Regulate their usage of the gadget. Teach them good morals and also be a good example for them. Let them be your good friends as well so that they can easily, without fear, tell you whatever that happens around them and in them.
The world is moving so fast. Do not drag your children backward cos of your failure to instill firm morals in them. There are laptops in my house. The kids can use them. We also have spare phones which they can use when need arises but no child of mine will own a phone before the age of 15. Phones and gadgets generally are distractions evne to many adults. Many people's live may have been better if not for access to gadget and social media |

Car Talk › Re: How Much Do You Currently Spend On Fuel In A Week? by yak(m): 9:57pm On May 01, 2025 |
Babatundehy: Don't do it, you don't intend to use the car to make money (Uber etc), you intend to buy just to move around, things will always need fixing, parts get bad (normal wear and tear), they cost money to fix, engine oils and trans oils aren't so cheap, fuel also isn't, and you'll fall into serious depression and frustration should you be unlucky to even buy a car with engine/trans issues which will need expensive repair. Currently, you need a loan to buy, have it in mind that a car is like a child, one with a huge appetite and can't warn you before it falls sick and needs surgery, thus you must have money at all times to take care of this, all of this combined with your daily expense (food and or yearly rent), family upkeep if you have one, and then servicing the loan, will be too much for you, you might end up parking the car and not using it, or driving it and not eating well like you used to. What do you suggest he does instead? |

If the city is the idsi engine with 8plugs, the mechanics may mess it up and when it's time to change plugs, life go Taya you original plugs nah like 30 to 50k multiply by 8 Thanks for simplifying it |

Eljay9233: Well, mentenance is on the fair side, the parts aren’t too expensive as people often preempt, but one thing is sure, that their spare parts are often genuine and durable. But you’ll have to take care of toy engine very well cos another replacement is on the high (btw 800-900k). But the good news is the engine is workable if you have a good mechanic Thanks man! Have been on the look out for the 2006-2010 or 2004/05 Civic for daily commute |
Car Talk › Re: My Corolla With Venza Engine Gulping Up Fuel Like Water (details Inside) by yak(m): 7:37am On Sep 26, 2024 |
Eljay9233: Well I don’t really know about corollas but even in this present dispensation @1100/ltr my Kia-rio 2013model covers minimum of 80km+ with 5k fuel. I live in kubwa and work in area 1, to and from my office covers over about 70km. Before now, @660 I was sure of at least going to work twice on 5k. Despite the fact that my engine have being ringed before. That car is indeed a savior in this economy. Aside petrol, what about the general cost of maintenance, cost of parts and technician? |
