Timing chain lasts longer, more durable
May never need to replace it.
Timing belt on the other hand has to be replaced after some miles especially in places with extreme temps cause it can snap if it’s badly worn.
Major reason you have to replace once you notice cracks is, once it snaps while the engine is running, the pistons will damage the engine valves and you’ll be spending much more in engine repairs just because the belt cut.

thanks bro, I can relate with this, I just bought a 2010 hybrid and clean Honda civic and didn't bother about the roads around my area because I was only motivated by it's low fuel consumption, but I am now looking for a Honda CRV 08 as a replacement

For the matrix, the "emergency surgery", could not save the transmission.
The reason being that the transmission was left to have deteriorated to the point it was.
