Religion / Re: Pope Benedict To Resign by YellowMosquito(m): 12:49pm On Feb 11, 2013
Pope Benedict XVI of the Roman Catholic Church has decided to resign from his post, the Vatican has announced.

"The pope announced that he will leave his ministry at 8:00 pm (19:00 GMT) on February 28," said a Vatican spokesman, Federico Lombardi, on Monday.

Benedict, born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, is the 265th Pope, and began his papacy on April 19, 2005.

The Pope had announced his decision in Latin during a canonisation ceremony on Monday morning, reported Al Jazeera's Sabina Castelfranco from Bologna. She said the move to resign was "something that we have not seen in modern times".

Benedict, 85, said that he no longer had the strength to fulfill his duties, due to his advanced age, the Reuters news agency reported.

"For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter," he said according to a statement from the Vatican.

The senior cardinal of the Vatican will take over Benedict's duties following his stepping down, until a conclave of Catholic Church cardinals can be held to choose his successor. The conclave could be held as early as mid-March, as the traditional mourning time that would follow the death of a pope does not have to be observed in this case.

The Vatican said that it expected the period between Benedict's stepping down and the selection of a successor to be "as brief as possible".

Pope Benedict had hinted in a book of interviews in 2010 that he might resign if he felt he was no longer able to carry out his duties.

The last pope to resign was Pope Gregory XII, who stepped down in 1415 in a deal to end the Great Western Schism among competing papal claimants. Benedict called his choice ``a decision of great importance for the life of the church".

1.And the day came, even the day of the Lord, this Sunday.

2. That the adversary of Nigeria, these Burkinababes came threatening

3. And Stephen, the son of Keshi, the commander of Nigeria Army
entreated the praying Nigerians to pray

4. And in churches and mosques, in mountains and camps prayers were
offered

5. And behold on the battle ground, the army, these super eagles fought
forcing the Burkinababes to retreat

6. But their champion, this Goliath called Bance came flanked by his
generals

7. But the Spirit of God stirred one son of Mba, even the one called Sunday,
the least in the Nigerian camp

8. And thus he said to the commander, Who is this uncircumcised
Burkinababes that he should defy the armies of the giant of Africa,

9. And he was told to sit down that even Mikel, Victor, Yobo, ..... these
warriors that have done battle in far countries cannot dare this Goliath,
Bance or Pitropia

10. And he told the commander for this purpose was I named Sunday, to do battle on the day of the Lord,

11. And the commander, Keshi urged him go

12. And Sunday arose and caused havoc in the camp of the Burkinababes

13. And the armies Burkina Faso, these adversaries of Nigerian was utterly destroyed.
