When farmers retaliate by harming the cattle or even the herders the Fulani respond with brutal force and aspect of the Fulani is their long memory for grievances; they do not forgive easily and will retaliate no matter how much time has passed.

Sometimes, the locals may have even forgotten the initial offense, but the Fulani will return to settle the score.

I was also told that in the past, if Fulani cattle damaged a farmer’s crops, the victim could report the issue to the Fulani leader Ardo who would ensure fair compensation. This has helped maintain peace before things escalated into the violence we see today.
