aribisala0: The reason GEJ is being castigated is he has introduced a dubious dichotomy and distinction between attitude and corruption. Almost like trying to separate headache and vomiting from malaria. He said More people die on good roads than on bad. You know he has a previous history of releasing doctored statistics on Nigeria's corruption ranking(for which he has resolutely refused to apologise).

Is it possible to be corrupt with a good attitude? To be a murderer with a constructive attitude. Perhaps he need to refresh on Psychology 101 to check the definition of attitude.

The citizenry are talking about corruption specifically corruption in GOVERNMENT,(LET US BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT THAT) involving POLITICIANS(Like him) and he turns around and says NO "That is not the problem, you need to change your attitude".

I really find it hard to say our president has covered himself in glory by uttering these words. The clear reality is this guy cannot transform a state never mind Nigeria. He is uninspiring and quite dull and really the worry is who can do better our politics does not allow people to serve "apprenticeships" in smaller roles gradually getting ready for big jobs out of nowhere we have him,The aviation Minister, the Petroleum minister and several others assume big roles and expect them to perform.HOW?? At least with the likes of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Sanusi they have significant relevant experience. His petroleum minister DID NOT do the NYSC but came up with an "EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE" How and why ?? Is that an attitude or corruption thing??
I so feel you. I remember watching one CNN interview in which the interviewer asked the President why an oil rich nation would have citizens in such wretched situations and he deflected going "the people are many", BS!.

Couldn't even own up to corruption of the past leaders then, I mean I know we are many and he may have thought that to be a good excuse, but let us quatify this for a sec.

How does the amount of people in a location really affect the ABILITY to increase power generation SUBSTANTIALLY over a decade. I mean if we had reached like 10,000MW by now, I would by the excuse that "PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE, BUT WE ARE STILL MANY".

OsunOriginal: Why should you give a contract to your brother in the first place? Favoritism is part of corruption and our constitution is very clear about anything that can influence your judgement.
Okay, I guess you got me there. I just remembered in history class that there was this U.S president that got the U.S out of the first depression by awarding numerous contracts to stimulate economic growth, most of which where awarded to his brother. The article did point out though that his brother was very well qualified.

That is why I asked the question, so if for instance you do become the president of Nigeria, and your siblings or relatives have viable businesses to offer the Nigerian economy, would you shun them entirely? Or I guess have them go through the bidding process (which I believe is a better approach).
PoliticsRe: Jonathan: Our Greatest Challenge Is Our Attitutude Not Corruption. by YoshiMaster: 4:48pm On Dec 30, 2012
Okay real talk, would any of you steal if you became president?

Is it really theft to enrich yourself while working for the people? Like say you source out contracts to your brother BUT make sure he does the work on time and within budget.

I am really confused on this one.

ndu_chucks: I have not read every post on this thread but I have to say that many of GEJ's critics here are being unfair, dishonest, and in some cases exhibiting gross bigotry.

We all know that the average Nigerian is lawless when it comes to abiding by existing traffic laws and this lawlessness, has caused untold number of accidents and deaths. Many of you drive on the wrong side of the road in Lagos or through unauthorized areas of the roadways, simply because there is a traffic jam ahead. If you people change your attitude, as GEJ is apparently suggesting, lives could be saved. Your lawlessness is just as responsible for deaths on our roads as the bad roads themselves.

Some of you bigots were hailing Fashola to high heavens when he said that we do not need constitutional amendments but a change in attitude. How is GEJ's statement worse than Fashola's.

You Nigerians are your own worst enemies and are enablers of the leaders who keep screwing you daily. abeg make I hear word. embarassed
Take away law enforcement on U.S roads, and you will have Nigerian style roads. Trust me I know, I was drivng along the bush in Houston, following others to beat traffic. Difference is the police stopped as many of us as he could, while in Nigeria, the police will tag along.

Bolushalom: Well, these are ATTITUDES of CORRUPT people
"Corrupt" is an adjective that can be used to qualify d noun Attitude..U treat those words as if they are antonyms.
I concur.

You guys really need to check out Sheikh Mohammeds story, and how he loves Dubai and its people, I don't think our leaders love us enough.

We need someone that loves us dearly, that wants to transform the so called "area boys" into six digit earners, that wants to educate our kids and leave no kid behind.

We need someone that would be happy to flaunt his green passport when he goes overseas, not someone content to put it in a "blue" passport holder.

We need someone who wants to make it so that American Citizens are queing up at the Nigerian Embassy.

We need someone who is truely accountable to his God for every kobo spent.

We need someone who would look at a feeding bill of 1 billion naira a year, and immediately tear it up, while arresting its proposers.

We need someone that uses his cojones, not takes one himself.

All in all, we need someone that trully loves us dearly, as though we are all his direct children and our pain is his pain.

Spiderman 3 and batman arkham asylum. I wanna swap both for a FIFA 13 cd. Anyone interested should please holla
Yes we can do that the company eventually (in about a week), and by we, I mean www.justconsolesnigeria.com (i just know the owner, lol). You will be able to trade games in for new ones, however, the trade value might not be up the the value of the new games, in which case a little cash would need to be added.
GamingRe: A Ps Vita Urgently Needed For Purchase by YoshiMaster: 12:59pm On Dec 30, 2012

Ikengawo: Something as simple as forming a line in Nigeria will turn into a fight and people will push themselves and fight to get on a bus that everyone is boarding anyways and is going to leave at the same time and go to the same place whether they're first or not.

People, instead of hiring labor and helping unemployment, will find a 7 year old in their village and make them work for free

People, instead of hiring a graduated professional will hire their incompetent brother or nephew who doesn't take his job seriously
You will give people a good road and they'll drive the opposite of traffic

You will give a community an oil pipeline and they'll drill holes in it, blowing themselves up and polluting their community for the next 100 years.

People worship the rich and treat the poor as less than human even when they themselves are poor.

If you ask a nigerian about nigeria they will go on and on about everything bad in their life and wonder why the nation has a bad image, completely unable to count 1 of God's daily blessings

People harbor criminals if the criminal is from their local government area.

Corruption isn't the issue, it's the people and their attitude towards society.
I have always said our attitude as a people needs to improve, with that said however, most of the things you listed above are really indirect causes of corruption.

Just like the way some people might support these new very harsh laws in Lagos, advocating that tougher is better (even 3 years in jail tough for hanging a BB on your ear), the common trend is for people to fail to see how untamed corruption has gotten us to the point of these harsh laws and overall bad attitudes towards people.

Take the case of the chaotic lawlessness pervasive throughout the Lagos driving community, so who do we turn to, to save the day? Police? Corrupt as hell, and that right there is just my point. The systems of government have become so rotten, that it spurns internal hatred towards the government, and in turn towards others.

I mean I once got in a small wreck at lekki roundabout, and explained to the police that the roundabout has 3 lanes, same as the feeder roads that lead to the roundabout (also three lanes), and that upon reaching the roundabout, I expected the guy that hit me to adhere to his lane (meaning if he was on the middle lane approaching the roundabout, he should continue at the middle lane once at the roundabout instead of all three lanes trying to force their way to the left lane. Ofcourse the guy that hit me was like AHHHHHH, in Lagos Ke, and the police guy was just looking stupid and expecting me to give him money (how giving him money is related to my accident, I DO NOT KNOW).

Bottom line if u curb corruption, fire police who ask for a single bribe, CONSISTENTLY fine traffic offenders (have all residents in a system and license numbers linked so fines can be enfored), you wouldnt have soo much road rage and bad attitudes toward fellow drivers. This is just an example of corruption in traffic police, now factor in every government body, then its almost like EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF.

'So many' u say?
90% of girls cant date a guy who's not up to 5 wrungs above them on d socioeconomic ladder.
All my life, i've met JUST TWO who arent like dat. I dated neither, but i sure as hell respect them and would reccommend them to any GOOd gentleman.
Yeah, we're saying the same thing. Just pointing out to preshuzpearl that I understand where she's coming from, the fact that most of us guys sometimes have a very materialistic approach method towards women we initially meet, often flaunting what we can and can't do for them, hence attracting those girls who indeed are materialistic themselves, and the viscous cycle continuous. So I guess it would be cool to try to attract "real" girls, but don't be surprised if there aren't many.

But yeah, there are too many girls that won't even consider you if you ain't paid, no need fronting like it aint true. If you girls want to prove me wrong, then you may proceed by letting your neighborhood mechanic grease your wheels.

preshuzpearl: Y do people always attach girls to money all d tym. I think its a very big misconception.. And rili embarassing.
guys who do not know how to form sensible relationships by looking out for good qualities in ladies pick some 50kobo coins from purewater sales and suceed in getting helpless girls. then they come here to shout that ladies love money. Pls be warned oh. My feminity is seriously insulted!!
Gotta agree with u to some extent, but u also have to acknowledge the fact that there are so many girls out there, in far better situations than this "helpless" conditions your depicting, that cant even fathom a relationship with a guy below their socioeconomically status.
