State universities in Nigeria are more like private universities, in fact private universities are better than most of the state universities. The universities I am referring to in my statement are federal universities like UNILORIN, UNIBEN, NSUKA and other universities you mentioned.

The only joy of attending a federal university is simply because the bigger opportunity it has more than a polytechnic in respect to job opportunities and workplace

Some state universities still rank better than some federal university and boast of good infrastructures too.

The dude isn't lying. I graduated from Ilaro. In 2011, the UTME score for accounting, bus admin and Banking was 250, yet thousands scored far above that and never got admission.

And 250 will get you admission to study in any state university n some Northern universities on merit. Why should I go and waste 5yrs instead of 4yrs in university in poly if I have requirements to be admitted in university?

Any reasonable person who is lucky enough to enter the civil service with HND degree should make it top priority to at least enroll in National Open University and get at least a degree there.

No mind HND holders. Government have done great for them to enter in dsame level with BSc and they are still complaining. Me wey de do BNSC Nursing have started looking for a better country abroad i go do my MSc so as to stand a better chance n earn more money and some HND holders wan stick with only that till them die.

First choice is only left for universities. No one will leave trying university first to polytechnic except the person no reach uni cut off mark. NOTE that all polytechnic certificates are regarded as same.

Funny enough is that it's dsame Amaechi that fought Jonathan n ezekwesili with the help of the other APC Governors to share the the funds n when Ezekwesili insisted on saving, the useless governors poised for war. Where re the states of People that use waec special centre results as yardstick . You see their states leading in waec but when it comes to admission into tertiary institution they re no where to be found.

Bros it's still too early to start comparing. Lagos have never overtaken imo, abia and anambra in both waec and jamb population of registered candidates and this year wouldn't be exception. Wait till the registration finishes before making ur tribalistic comment. All 5 Eastern states are always in the top 20 after registration while imo will be 1st, anambra will be in top 5, enugu and abia will be in top 10.

Meanwhile where I graduated from, people fail out of pharmacy school and are readily accepted in Biochemistry where they even end up graduting with 2.1

Nursing is always more competitive than pharmacy. Check each school that have nursing n pharmacy the number of applicants each of them have.

Alright thanks but does it mean that they can't be accredited b4 5yrs? Cos I was thinking that since they have been running RN and RM at parklane, it will be easier for them to get accredited for BNsc.

I applied for medsurg last year at esut and I was given nursing science instead.
My problem is that we are the first set to start the nursing in esut cos it's a new course they just started.
I am tired of staying at home and writing jamb so I had to grab the course.
But I am seriously worried cos it not accredited yet being that it's a new course and we are the first set.
Should I pick up another jamb form or study the nursing and wait for it to be accredited?

They don't write putme. Ur jamb and O'level result only. So try to score high above 250 then you can get any medical course there or 280 for medsurg.

Check the most chosen school in jamb, you won't find unn in 1st 3. That's a typical problem there, but they'll start wailing when ui or Unilag deny dem admission.
This people are very intolerant to others but to Lagos and kano and see them forming landlord...
Check and compare the ratio of Igbo students in Unilag and Abu to Yoruba or hausa/Fulani students in unn and be the judge.

Hey guy. Have you take time to check applicants choosing different courses? If you don't know, UNN college of medicine is the highest. In 2016, more than 11,000 picked unn medsurg, 7000+ nursing, like wise other medical courses in unn. Schools in South West were only having 7000+ for medsurg.
So that unn isn't among top 5 highest when it comes to overall applicants doesn't mean that it's medical courses are less with applicants.

Bro let me just tell you the trick that worked for me and my friend.
Do you know that 280 will get u medsurg in unimaid on merit?
If you still don't want to take chances, pick unimaid as first choice then pick any state that is among ELDS in ur geopolitical zone as state of origin. Hit 270+ in jamb and voom..... U will see urself in unimaid admission list. My friend from Enugu got pharmacy at unimaid last year with just 251. He choosed unimaid cos he is tired of how competitive all federal schools in South is and none of them can even give him common anatomy with 250+. So he took a bold step and picked unimaid. His name came out in the last bath and they still gave him pharmacy.

2018 UTME: JAMB Reveals Number Of Candidates That Have Gained Admission So Far.

The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed that 24,148 candidates have so far gained admission into various higher institutions in Nigeria – as at August 29 – adding that the exercise is a continuous process.

This is out of the about 1,662,762 candidates that wrote the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) between March 9 and 19.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Oloyede said that a total of 866,154 candidates have so far uploaded their O’level results for admission, adding that the 2018 admission process is still ongoing.


The JAMB Boss said this at the end of a promotion examination for over 700 staff of the Board held at its headquarters in Bwari and other designated centres across the country.
“Candidates that are today who had been admitted so far are 24,148 and at least those on my table who are in JAMB that we have not treated this morning are 9130,”Oloyede said.
He, however, stated that only 850,135 candidates have five O’level credits including English Language without Mathematics, noting that it’s not true that candidates must have both English Language and Mathematics to gain admission.
“Candidates with O’level results till today, who have uploaded their O’level are 866,154 as at this morning but out of this, those with five O’levels including English language, not Mathematics, 850, 135,” he said.

I scored 218 in jamb, my O'level is slightly above average. Eng C6, maths C5, physics C4, chemistry B2, biology B3 and agriculture A1. And I am from ebonyi state which is among ELDS. I applied for physiotherapy and unimaid is my first choice. Do I stand any chance of getting admission?
