Not suprised at all, they shouldn't have used all time most songs on the list where chosen because of popularity instead of content. Good day my people, happy independence. A thread here on NL inspired me to start thinking of a solution to our greatest problem in this country. That problem is corruption but the worse part is that in Nigeria their is no repercussion for being corrupt, no matter how bad a government official's corrupt actions affects this nation negatively there always seems to be no punishment. A lot of people want to speak out against this but fear prevents them from doing so, this fear steams from the fact that speaking out can endanger your life but most importantly the lives of our loved ones, this stops people from speaking out for fear of harm not to themselves but to the ones they love . We know how much the internet and computers have become a part of our life, we also see people doing things they won't do in real life on the internet because they know you cant easily find them out (trolls), this previledge has been used negatively by people. To summarise what am saying is lets use the internet to troll the government officials and individuals that are using corruption to destroy this country, we can demand for them to do their duties or risk their whole family being trolled mercilessly online. I believe we don't need to change this polithievecians we just need to shame, punish and stigmatise them, trolling (4chan level of trolling) I believe will put them in line. This needs to make fp, have a wonderful day. |
I read this post from page 1 to 22, I would like to add somethings, they might be a lot cos this might end up being a rant though at this starting point I don't intend it to be so. Firstly I don't judge anybody who is leaving or has left and is planning to leave because imho Nigeria hasn't really given anyone any tangible reason to stay. Funny thing is majority of Nigerians don't want much in this life apart from being happy and they are ready to do honest to God work here in Nigeria no matter how degrading as far as they are happy, but truth be told the Nigerian environment doesn't encourage honesty just frustration. Most of you are talking of US europe but you won't believe the amount of Nigerians in neigbouring African countries that don't want to come back, am speaking from my experience in our backyard Cotonou, I never knew the value of constant electricity, water supply and security plus easy transport network till I spent a month in Cotonou, I didn't even use to charge my phone till it was low cos electricity just dey all the time they can go a week without power loss and when they lose power it would be for an hour, we stay out till anytime we like anywhere we like as long as you have your papers or even school id card nothing do you, na only Police dey disturb for night. Lots of students and business people don't like Benin republic cos dey look down on the country mostly because of some under developments but they prefer to stay there cos of the peace of mind, low cost of living and constant power. The effect this has had on the citizen of the country is tremendous, they have free visa to France but many don't want to go, their consensus on Nigeria is that those people have money but they won't come here to stay except to hustle and they run back to thier country. The self belief in themselves and their nation wows me this suprises Nigerians a lot because all we count is money but money this people don't have but they have self entitlement. My first week there I just wondered how this backward people achieved this things easily and we with all our advancements and over belief are still stumbling. I was strolling with my Beninoise friend one weekend and we saw a man riding on a bicycle he told me that was one of their high ranking government official I just asked myself if a naija politician can brave going to toilet without security. I just want to highlight the gains of basic amenities, its just all most of us need to have that belief in Naija, all of you advocating for use of sense to survive is it by force? not all of us must be smart but loads are ready to do any honest work must their lack of ingenuity be a cross ? I am here in naija, I don't want to leave, I want to try my best I cant be a fighter its not my strong suit, I am not asking anyone to either but I want to point out that their are countries who changed without blood shed read on the canadian silent revolution and the singapore story a change of mindset might do the trick because I like my life countless others that fought and died for this country have been forgotten and nothing has changed. Most people are followers, most good people in naija have seen sweetness in evil so they have closed their conscience to what that evil is causing, I know young people like me who just want to leave because they know staying here will make them do things that their conscience won't stomach they want a honest life but Nigerians will force you not to be honest they opt to go where honesty is appreciated. Countless others saying take advantage of situation to make money I have a question? Is money the beginning and end majority of the population don't even want to have billions they just want to be happy in their house thats all . I believe we need to stigmatise corruption. I have an idea to create a website and mobile app where corrupt government officials and individuals in Nigeria can be called out and shamed I cant do it now, but if anyone wants to do it please use the idea if you want to include me in the project fine, I am not looking for monetary gain am just looking to sensitise people to evil of corruption and since the government ain't fighting it lets use oldschool style of village shaming and stigmatisation to punish corruption. I hope we can start with this initiative because we need solutions we all already know the problems. |
A very wonderful thread, a clash of mature minds such as this can only bring good, I have a lot to add but I think its time to point out that we are all thinking along the same lines. A few points I have gathered 1. Going back to our root languages 2. Promoting togetherness and value of common good opposed to personal enrichment 3. Ingenuity towards developing our environment 4. A way to get this movement started |
ndidibabe: I remember there is a Nigerian guy that played for Italy against us in a friendly. Can anyone remind me of his name?I think it's Angelo Ogbonna |
Most of these guys aren't even worth considering except Alaba, I think the fact we might loose them is what makes them exotic. Seriously, its a choice most of these guys grew up in another place, had friends there, went to school, enjoyed social security and you expect them to abandon the country they owe all to and have lived all their lives, for one country their parents just happened to have ran away from and they personally know nothing about . ![]() |

In summary this article is about how the money raised by the ALS awareness will be spent, the fact that a lot of it goes to salaries and benefits of employees and the organisation isn't really funding research for a cure. |
Health Impact News Editor The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for the ALS Associationis sweeping the nation, and going viral in social media. However, do you know what you are supporting if you contribute funds to the ALS Association?TheALS Associationdescribes their “mission”:Established in 1985, The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary carethrough certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.As the preeminent ALS organization, The Association leadsthe way in research, care services, public education, and public policy — giving help and hope to those facing the disease. The Association’s nationwide network of chapters provides comprehensive patient services and support to the ALS community.(Source.)ALS is the acronym forAmyotrophiclateral sclerosis, commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” Media portrayals of the Ice Bucket Challenge generally state that ALS “is always fatal and has no known cure,” and therefore urge people to contribute to the ALS Association tofund research to find a cure.Where Does the Money Contributed to the ALS Association Go?So where does the money donated to the ALS Association actually go? You may be surprised to find out that theAssociation itself claimsthat only 27% of its funds go towards research. We pulled up their2013 tax returnsto take a closer look at how their funds are spent. Here are the salaries for the leadership of the group:Jane H. Gilbert – President and CEO – $339,475.00Daniel M. Reznikov – Chief Financial Officer – $201,260.00Steve Gibson – Chief Public Policy Officer – $182,862.00Kimberly Maginnis - Chief of Care Services Officer – $160,646.00Lance Slaughter - Chief Chapter Relations and Development Officer– $152,692.00Michelle Keegan – Chief Development Officer – $178,744.00John Applegate – Association Finance Officer – $118.726.00David Moses – Director of PlannedGiving – $112,509.00Carrie Munk – Chief Communications and Marketing Officer – $142,875.00Patrick Wildman – Director of Public Policy – $112,358.00Kathi Kromer – Director of State Advocacy – $110,661.00Total administration costs, as seen in the pie chart above, were just under $2 million. “Other salaries and wages” (Part IX line 7) were$3.6 million, with another half million dollars in “pension plans” and “employee benefits.” Expenses for non-employee labor were about$4 million, and “travel expenses” exceeded $1.3 million. So total costs for labor to run the association was around $12.5 million, from revenues received totaling $24 million.Over 50% of what the ALS Association receives appears to support salaries of people working for the Association, based on these tax returns. So what about the rest of the revenue?Almost $1 million was spent on “Lobbying” (Schedule C Part II 2a). Here is what they wrote concerning their Lobbying efforts:Explanation: The purpose of our advocacy program is to sensitize legislators to, and obtain their sympathy for, the plight of ALS victims, patients and their families, and to influence legislation regarding the appropriation of federal funds for ALS research andthe use and cost to patients of “orphan” drugs. The largest amount of what is remaining is: “Grants and other assistance to governments and organizations in the United States” (Part IX line 1) – $6.2 million. This amount is itemized on Schedule 1. Almost all of these recipients are medical schools, with strong ties to the pharmaceutical industry. The ALS Association was started in 1985, and they still have not invested in any new cures for ALS. One of the latest failures was Biogen’s drugdexpramipexole, whichhalted research in early 2013. The drug was in research for more than 10 years at an estimated cost of between $75 million and$100 million, but was abandoned in last stage development due to poor results. (Source.)
