Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the “snake of corruption” swallowing money in government agencies and ministries will kill Nigeria if it is not killed.

Atiku said this while receiving the Man of the Year Award in Lagos, on Friday.

He urged the federal government to fight embark on serious fight against corruption instead of engaging in media warfare or propaganda.

Mr. Atiku said: “We must try to identify why, though we have been ostensibly fighting corruption for the past few years, Transparency International, the official global anti-corruption monitoring agency, has not increased our Corruption Perception Index rating,

“Not to belabor the point, but we have to kill the snake of corruption that swallows the commonwealth that should lift our people up from poverty. Whether that snake is in a JAMB office or any other government office, we must kill it or it will kill us

“This month of February 2018, according to the World Poverty Clock, Nigeria has just overtaken India as the world’s capital of extreme poverty. There are more extremely poor people in Nigeria than there are in India, a country that has six times Nigeria’s population.

“When people do not have jobs and the means to start a business are beyond their reach, they are incrementally much more likely to engage in criminal behaviors like terrorism, kidnapping, militancy and armed robbery”.

The former Vice President who has expressed interest in contesting for the presidency in 2019 on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has also been subject of corrupt investigations in and outside of Nigeria.

A teenager was nabbed hiding to take photos of schoolgirls as they had their bath in a school in Ghana.

The female students of AME Zion Senior High School in the Eastern Region of Ghana were bathing close to their hostel when one of the naked females noticed a camera light flash. She then looked up and saw the young man taking their photos. The girls raised an alarm and this attracted other male students of the school.

The culprit tried to run away but was arrested by the schoolboys who proceeded to beat him before handing him over to school authorities who then took him to the police station at Akyem Tafo Police command.

Luiza Pinheiro, from Riacho Frio in Brazil, was rushed to hospital on Sunday but doctors were unable to revive her.

The 17-year-old’s lifeless body was found on the floor by a relative at about 5pm, the Mirror reported.

A ‘huge electric charge’ had destroyed her phone, which was plugged into a charger.



‘The girl’s grandmother told the doctor that they found her granddaughter unconscious, lying on the floor and with headphones in her ears,’ a hospital spokesman told local media.

‘They said they believe that the young woman had an electric shock because the cell phone was charging and the phone was melted.’

He added: ‘It is stated in the medical record that the girl was admitted to the hospital one hour after the electric shock.

‘The relatives said that the girl had received a shock, but the causes of death will still be confirmed.’

He said it was not raining at the time but there was a lightning storm.

It is not clear exactly how the teenager was electrocuted and the cause of the shock is still under investigation.

The mastermind of the Benue killings allegedly perpetuated by the Fulani herdsmen in the state, has been arrested by Police. The arrest of the suspect followed the strict orders by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to his Intelligence Response Team (IRT)

According to Guardian, The suspect, who was identified as 40-year-old Alhaji Laggi, was arrested at the Tunga Forrest in Nasarawa State. Four other principal suspects were also arrested between February 16 to 19 also in Tunga town, Nasarawa State, in possession of AK47 rifles and other prohibited arms.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Joshak Habillah, who made this disclosure on behalf of the IGP said the mastermind was arrested after deploying the most advanced technology and trailing him for more than three weeks.

The four suspects were arrested in connection to the killing of Sergeant Solomon Dung, other police officers and many innocent citizens in Benue State.

While Laggi was fingered as the mastermind, the other four were identified as Mallam Mumini Abdullahi, 34, Muhammed Adamu, 30 and Ibrahim Sule, 32.

During preliminary interrogations, the suspects confessed to the killings and mentioned their fleeing gang members who are in possession of the police rifles they took from the cops they murdered.

As the Benue killings lingered and became a menace to the people of the state, you would recall that the Governor of the state, Samuel Ortom had advised people of the state to defend themselves against any attack by intruders, especially the Fulani Herdsmen that have been terrorizing the state for quite a long time.

The governor complained that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who should enforce security and safety of the people was playing politics with the unending killings in the state.

So he maintained that every citizen of the state should defend themselves in any lawful way against any unwarranted attack

I watched the talk show this morning on AIT "focus Nigeria".
He said the incident happened abt 2-3 years ago.
That was abt a month into his tenure.
He had abolished the sales of jamb scratch card immediately he assumed office nd had asked for audits of all jamb accounts in all the states of the federation during the says of scratch cards b4 he assumed office.
He say there were even more ridiculous claims than the snake own.
He said those involved had been dismissed and dealt with.
Furthermore, before he assumed office, jamb was remitting about 10 million naira to the Federation account.
Infact, before he came, jamb remitted only about 52 million or so in 5 years.
However, under his leadership, Jamb remitted abt 7.8 BILLION naira in one (1) year.
So the video wasn't recent, it was an old probe.
He also said he was disappointed that such case of national importance could become a thing of joke nd comedy to Nigerians. He said he didn't see anything funny in that cos it's a very sensitive issues.

The best graduating student at the 2016 combined convocation ceremony of Imo State University IMSU, Dr Chigozie Ekenze, was gifted the sum of N13,700,000 (Thirteen million, seven hundred naira) by Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Dr Chigozie Ekenze got the prize money to go for a Post Graduate Program in London.

According to a statement released by Mazi Anayochukwu Abasiodu Idiong, Special Assistant to Rochas Okorocha on Social Media, Chigozie Ekenze lost his father shortly after gaining admission to study Optometry in Imo State University.

Chigozie almost withdrew for lack of funding as his mother’s vegetable trade could not sponsor his education.

After becoming governor in 2011, Rochas Okorocha declared free and compulsory education from primary to university and that helped Chigozie a lot.
