well, It depends on how you look at it. Some employers would ask because they would like to know how much responsibility you really bear. if a prospective employee is the only one working in the family, you can be sure eventually, he would be overwhelmed with financial commitments. The next thing is to ask for a raise in salary, or to scheme on how to defraud the company or depression may even set in and this would lead to reduced productivity. where this may not turn out to be the case, i guess employers would rather play safe....... My opinion

But don't you think dats unfair. It could be a wrong yardstick to select the right candidate

Recently I attended an interview where the interviewer asked me about my parents and what they do?, they also asked what my siblings do for a living.

Now I wonder what this question has to do with my ability to perform on the job or me being the best man for the job?...
Is it right for them to ask such questions?

Very true, most pple won't be able to attend the interview even. I know like 2 pple who had to reject the offer at the end becos they have got similar better paying jobs else where. I guess the interview will be quiet tough and some work experience might be an advantage in this case.

Work Experience has noting to do with a graduate trainee position.. that's my opinion (if you are good you are good). If you have previous experience it could be a minimal advantage.

How sure?...it is graduate trainee yes... but i know next stage could be very competitive. i was wondering if some light work experience would be added advantage.

See am not so interested in politics, but I think ve read a lot about Nigerian history and most of the things u listed out here re lies...the man buhari never had any knowledge about the coup, the military top brass den decided the shagari regime had to go becos corruption was very rampant, he (buhari) was chosen to lead a new regime as a senior officer who was deemed capable to clean the mess left by the shagari regime

2 there is not one military regime ever in the world without records of human right abuse

3 as for felas case he was a problem for different military govts. From OBJ to IBBs time. Infact his mother was seriously injured in a raid by security forces during OBJs regime which lead to her death

4 and for ur corruption claim, I believe his govt then was overthrown because of its strict policy on corruption and indiscipline. And that why most people re afraid of the man.

Assessment center (It involves group/team work)

I once had an interview with a big four audit firm. When I entered d partners office he told me he just finished eating cake, so I was even happy tot he was in good mood. Dats was how the interview started, he started picking out the mistakes n flaws in my application form and transcript. Eg he said.."I know u met all the requirements for this job but I don't think you re good enuf", I asked why sir ..." He said u don't have enough As in your WAEC result..he was saying I had a 2.1 but my CGPA was not strong enough.
All in all he was jus trying to tell me he can't employ me for reasons best known to him alone. But I wondered during the interview why I was not asked a single question that tests my competency or knowledge at all.
Its all good now. I know better offers will come

David0: I said something earlier...if u have anything doing for now, keep doing it, ur call for next stage may b delayed till next year base on wats happening now. The contract staffs are bn considered first and dey are yet to do their job test. So i bliv until they are done with dem, before UBN will consider trainees.
So long ur successful, u will b called, but u have to be very patient.

yeah i have something doing. i can also confirm the contract staff recruitment you said. i have got a pal who works with work force, he told me about the contract staff recruitment they are doing for union bank, but dat was last month or so. lets still not rule out getting the invites this last quarter of the year.

my brother everybody don tire. but from the last recruitment timetable sha, the first batch got their call by october and resumed november 2012. lets hope they start calling by next month october.And i hope we get enough time to prepare for AC.
