Politics / Re: Lagos-Calabar Road: Outrage As Umahi Proposes ₦‎1,500 For cars, Truck ₦‎5,000 by ysg4real(m): 5:49pm On Apr 12
Couldn't have said it better. We love to enjoy better amenities, but we dont want to pay for it. I am sure there are other alternative roads people can take if they dont want to ply the super highway. But for anyone that values speed, convenience, and time value of money, I am sure this is a no brainer!
EponObi:
Bunch of jokers. Nigeria really spoilt her people silly with subsidies; so much they are tuned out of reality.

It's only in Nigeria that people wants all the solid infrastructures and the goodies that comes with it without paying a dime. Even tax, most don't pay. Before the fuel subsidy was removed, most were moving about with the faux reality that they are rich and earning enough. The removal shattered that reality completely. And na them dey say rubbish the previous years about the government not doing anything for them.

Fuel and dollar subsidy was removed everyone started crying.

Without toll, how do people expect the project to come to reality? The funniest thing is that most people championing this narrative have traveled outside the country and seen how infrastructure work in "sane climes".

Another issue is illiteracy. Many don't even understand the project, its importance, and what it stands to offer us all regard savings on travelling expenses, economic boost, and repping the nation on the global stage.

The costal highway will reduce the travel time from Lagos to Ilaje, Ondo State to just 45 minutes (that's just for one out of the many lanes that will cut across the South West, South East, and South South). Anyone who thinks the #3k toll gate is too expensive should use the alternative routes. It's that simple. Moreover, the minister Umahi said the 3k is just the average, meaning small vehicles could pay like 1.5k and heavy duty trucks pay 5k. So wtf is the buzz all about?

Like I've said, the country pampered the people too much with subsidizations. Too much.

You all complain of a simple toll on the greatest infrastructural development this nation has ever seen but will pay through your noses by acquiring loans and selling generational properties just to get visa to the "saner climes". You will get there to become 4th class citizens and pay through your noses all the days of your lives to their governments in form of taxes, bills, etc - literally slaving away daily so you don't get thrown out of your houses.

People think a 700km costal highway is one of those roads within their housing estates. A super highway that will have a train lane in the middle for that matter. Una never ready.

It's a fiscal strategy to use monetary instruments like these fixed income notes to mop up more naira significantly in order to lower inflation. That's absolutely brilliant.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
Couldnt have agreed more. If all sides are considered (securitization, savings by the people in secured govt instrument, and mop-ups money in circulation), its a very brilliant strategy.

HarunaWest:
Theres nothing embarassing about the letter. Nigerian chamber of commerce and Industry failed to make business contact with the qatari authorities. They wanted to just capitalize on President Tunubu's state visit to initiate business talk and the qatari side refused. If it were in Nigeria, such proposal would have been approved because we are opportunistic in nature. This is what eye service causes. When people that have no idea of their job functions are manning those positions.

@Harunawest I commend your objective explanation and comprehension of the core matter.
You perfectly understand how trips like this works and many add-on activities that try to capitalize on the main official visits.

It frustrates me sometimes to explain simple things to those who are just fixated on a confirmation bias.

This is not about party affiliation its about critical thinking and improving our reasoning so we can improve our lives and not be gullible to every news.

Tinubu would govern and go, someone else would be in that position in the next upcoming cycles, but what do we do as individuals to rule our lives and the quality of our reasoning? There in is the core problem of naija.

Additionally, it's essential to approach document interpretation with objectivity, because when we let sentiments rule our reasonings, they cloud understanding.

I scrutinie the document carefully, and it certainly reveals that, it has nothing to do with Tinubu core official visit in itself and its not about Tinubu being snubbed, but its specifically involve certain activity by an arm of the govrnment or an association looking to collaborate with a ministry in Qatar.

We all fall prey to the first intepretation that makes sense, which may not necessarily be true.

We must learn to reduce this blindspot, and the importance of discernment, as intuition and emotion alone, when higher than objectivity can lead to deception.

Leaking official documents is unacceptable, irrespective of political leanings or the party in power. Such actions aimed at sabotaging the government must not be tolerated. They underscore a civil service that has grown excessively large, lacks discipline, and fails to uphold confidentiality despite its role. Honestly Heads should roll for this.

Indeed, prioritizing power fixes would have masisive effect but it doesnt mean mean neglecting other pressing issuess well.

Addressing years of decay isn't a straightforward task; it's multifaceted and cascading. Just as one can multitask, tackling various challenges simultaneously is possible. We must acknowledge that Tinubu cannot simply wave a magic wand to solve everything; turning this massive ship around will take time.

Boldideas:

Fix power, Fix Road, Fix Security, Fix our refineries and this dollar issue will die a natural death!!!!

If power is fixed, industrialization will take it roots and move this country forward!!!!

Stop all these speculations! Tinubu fix power!!! It is becoming a thing of ridicule for a nation like Nigeria not to have power!!! It is a thing of shame! Unless you're a witch too like your predecessors.

What some term 'Trial and Error, I see as data collection, trend observation, and adaptation—a hallmark of seasoned professionals confronting multifaceted challenges.

Despite the mess he has inherited, Cardoso endeavors to right several years of rottenness and burying our head in the sand. Yet his boldness in addressing longstanding issues is absolutely commendable.

Romance / Re: "We Started Out As Flower Boy And Girl” – Man Weds Childhood Crush by ysg4real(m): 9:16am On Jan 28
I typically try not to criticize others' perspectives, but respectfully, I find it essential to challenge the notion that equates being unmarried with being a failure in life. The prevailing narrative that considers marriage as the "greatest achievement" seems outdated and limiting.

It's crucial to broaden our understanding of success and fulfillment beyond traditional societal expectations. I believe people have diverse aspirations and life paths, and their choices should be respected.

I've encountered individuals who have consciously chosen not to pursue marriage, and they lead fulfilling lives, making significant contributions to society in unique ways. Their impact and fulfillment defies the stereotype that marriage is the sole measure of success. It's high time we shift these narratives and embrace the diversity of life choices that lead to personal happiness and meaningful societal contributions.

Some individuals, due to societal pressure, were desperate to get married and had to bail after a horrible experience. "No gree for anybody" to pressure you, "dey your dey."

G00dharddick:
Marriage is a woman's greatest achievement in life. Their lives literally depends on it, this determines the length of Cash out and billing they'll give the man till he dies.

A man literally gains nothing from marriage at all. However, girls who are not virgins must avoid getting married, if they do, their bride price shouldn't be paid.

No, but citizens should learn to do things the right way instead of bending the rules. The normalization of bending rules is widespread, and we often criticize the government for not behaving well. However, it's crucial to remember that the government is not imported from other countries but is formed by citizens of the same Nigeria. We are essentially what we complain about. So far, there hasn't been any report of the owner of a demolished property presenting any form of approval documentation.
We always think about how we would get away with it, not the consequences of our action if it goes sideways.
I am not saying other countires are better, but its action like this that may people even in the developed countries to behave: *consequences*

Hanndye:

Is it ok for governments to allow citizens to commit infractions before acting and giving out punishments or rather nip a misdemeanor in bud thereby making costs minimal for all parties? Which is right: a government to be anti-people or pro-people?
I'm asking these foolish questions because of my 'everybody be happy' mentality. I'm definitely not a sadist.

Where were they ? I dont think that;s the right question.

In a huge state with over 21 million people, the government can't be everywhere, and that's where we come in as citizens. Keeping an eye out for building violations is key – if we spot something, it's crucial to report it so the government can step in. I listened to the news and the enforcement came as a result of communities seeking government help to address the flooding in their areas.

Even in fancy developed countries, issues, building construction (and codes) violations are rampant and it may take months or years before such people are brought to book.

Totally agree with you. When acquiring something like vehicles that requires maintenance, it's crucial to factor in the total cost of ownership. Otherwise, it's akin to someone getting all excited about getting a puppy without realizing the ongoing commitment of feeding and caring for it for years to come. She's spot on from that perspective.

Truckpusher:
It's not a lame excuse as most of you are insinuating here, though I understand we've made it a habit of not believing our Government because all they is to lie to us year in year out.

I work for an outfit that got more than 20 pieces of Innoson vehicles especially the IVM carrier and IVM granite model . As I'm typing this right now 98% of these vehicles are parked in the workshop with no spare parts to repair minor challenges. Imagine relying on that kind of manufacturer to provide vehicles for your entire fleet , it would become a logistic nightmare and will disrupt operations and to make matters worst the Innoson man himself is just your typical irresponsible Nigerian businessman who's not ready to make any tangible changes All he wants is to be paid without adding value to his vehicles year in year out after all he's fully aware that with the local content policy , we will always come around to patronize his greedy ass.

This Babachir of a man is clearly expressing bitterness. :-D :-D.
Have you had the chance to peruse Yemi Cardoso's impressive resume?
I can attest, based on insights from some of my senior colleagues who worked with him, that he has consistently stood out as one of the most professional and astutely structured technocrats, particularly in the fields of economy and banking.

He was Citibank in the era when Citiban was the gold standard for banking in Nigeria.

It is highly plausible that Cardoso implemented measures to curtail the loopholes that cabals, such as Babachir, may have been exploiting.

This man is bitter, simple.

If this is happening to the dangotes of this country, you can imagine what the nameless are facing in their push to create value.
however, we do not give up, we keep pushing and hope the dams would break and all the barriers would be systematically and surgically addressed.

Nonsense! Here is my take and the most fundamental information: The pastor is not an immigration officer!! Simple!!.
What is his business with immigration papers if 2 consenting adults have decided to marry and they are willing to go ahead, being aware of their immmigration situation?

There is no law that prevents 2 consenting adults from getting married even if they have no papers. While marriage can strengthen the immigration application, the admissibility in canada will be ultimately determined by an immigration officer based on requirement review.
Not his business in my own opinion. He should have counselled them and if they still insist on getting married, then so be it!

Political sentiments aside, Oluremi Tinubu is a really beautiful woman. I can imagine how she was in her 20's - 40's.
Her trajectory to serve God is also worth studying. What led to it ? Was it voluntary or she was beset with challenges and only God was abe to help her. I love to study peoples' lives and update my model and way of thinking.
You can learn from anyone - either through their achievements or mistakes.
