while this is a great concern, I hope we realize this issue is not unique to Nigeria alone ? Developed countries are facing shortages as well and lots are shutting down Racoon: |
No, but citizens should learn to do things the right way instead of bending the rules. The normalization of bending rules is widespread, and we often criticize the government for not behaving well. However, it's crucial to remember that the government is not imported from other countries but is formed by citizens of the same Nigeria. We are essentially what we complain about. So far, there hasn't been any report of the owner of a demolished property presenting any form of approval documentation. We always think about how we would get away with it, not the consequences of our action if it goes sideways. I am not saying other countires are better, but its action like this that may people even in the developed countries to behave: *consequences* Hanndye: |
Where were they ? I dont think that;s the right question. In a huge state with over 21 million people, the government can't be everywhere, and that's where we come in as citizens. Keeping an eye out for building violations is key – if we spot something, it's crucial to report it so the government can step in. I listened to the news and the enforcement came as a result of communities seeking government help to address the flooding in their areas. Even in fancy developed countries, issues, building construction (and codes) violations are rampant and it may take months or years before such people are brought to book. PHIPEX: |
Totally agree with you. When acquiring something like vehicles that requires maintenance, it's crucial to factor in the total cost of ownership. Otherwise, it's akin to someone getting all excited about getting a puppy without realizing the ongoing commitment of feeding and caring for it for years to come. She's spot on from that perspective. SIXTEENTH:Question for you: Are you in the Sister's shoes to make such sweeping statement ? Do you live abroad ? |
I am thinking anothe angle: if the enws says $20mm equivalent, perhaps she is one of the currency speculators that got her fingers burnt in currency round tripping. |
Fantastic! We need to see more of this on Nairaland. Not as a sponsored post but encouraged post. This is way better than all the diatribes and salvos that's been heightened lately. |
This Babachir of a man is clearly expressing bitterness. :-D :-D. Have you had the chance to peruse Yemi Cardoso's impressive resume? I can attest, based on insights from some of my senior colleagues who worked with him, that he has consistently stood out as one of the most professional and astutely structured technocrats, particularly in the fields of economy and banking. He was Citibank in the era when Citiban was the gold standard for banking in Nigeria. It is highly plausible that Cardoso implemented measures to curtail the loopholes that cabals, such as Babachir, may have been exploiting. This man is bitter, simple. |
Did people read the article or just commenting based on the headline. Here is a big example of nigerian problem, not compreheding before replying. From the article I read He was talking about the church being on "maintenance level" and focus on projects instead of their sole purpose. Unless I am mistaken, nothng about shrine vs church here. |
This goes to show how "our" problems are multi-dimensional and it takes courage to surmount it because there are many players within the environment that can frustrate the push for value production. If this is happening to the dangotes of this country, you can imagine what the nameless are facing in their push to create value. however, we do not give up, we keep pushing and hope the dams would break and all the barriers would be systematically and surgically addressed. |
Great man! A perfect gentleman. Its a great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. |
What did I just read here ?? ?? ?? ![]() okoroemeka: |
it all depends. To each his own. I looooove tattoos .. some tattoos are super sexy ... as long as they are not trashy . Nelson21: |
In the 80's ?? Did you mean in the 50's or 60's ?olisaEze: |
Not a big deal especially for someone who has lived in different continents. Such mixup of governmental roles / title will slip in every now and then. "Minister" is the word mostly used in north america for such role whether state, province or national. leanonme82: |
Nonsense! Here is my take and the most fundamental information: The pastor is not an immigration officer!! Simple!!. What is his business with immigration papers if 2 consenting adults have decided to marry and they are willing to go ahead, being aware of their immmigration situation? There is no law that prevents 2 consenting adults from getting married even if they have no papers. While marriage can strengthen the immigration application, the admissibility in canada will be ultimately determined by an immigration officer based on requirement review. Not his business in my own opinion. He should have counselled them and if they still insist on getting married, then so be it! |
Political sentiments aside, Oluremi Tinubu is a really beautiful woman. I can imagine how she was in her 20's - 40's. Her trajectory to serve God is also worth studying. What led to it ? Was it voluntary or she was beset with challenges and only God was abe to help her. I love to study peoples' lives and update my model and way of thinking. You can learn from anyone - either through their achievements or mistakes. bennybuhari: |
siofra:Never knew. Just learned something new today. Thanks. Wish we could have more educative posts like this on this forum. |
Is this really true ? what's the source and who is carrying the news ? I will be more wary of such news unless verified. However this is just hoping that the new government is not this insensitive, if true, then the optics is really bad. iwaeda: |
wow! I respect your learning mindset, this is what most people miss in life: the mindset of ignoring the opinions of others and face your life and make a success of it. It takes courage and it also takes humility. 2 things you have exhibited. I am always learning and ready to put it to use immediately so I dont forget. you never know when those knoweldge you think are not immediately relevant will come in very handy and create success in an unimaginable way. This is one of the areas we are lacking in nigeria, thinking the acquisition of certificates means you are better than everyone else. Kudos brother! Successonpoint: |
Though I laughed so hard reading this comment. But jokes apart, its a lesson for everyone who follows the politicians with emotions and blind spots. Its never black & white and there are many agendas behind the scene. I must salute your courage @Pythagoras001 for writing this as this is growth. Its a comment worth framing and should be a learning moment for everyone to dig deeper into facts before jumping on any band wagon, otherwise, you would be played by people with different agendas. On another note, there's been the talk about gender (female) disefranchisation in naija politics. I raised this topic here as its something I had debated with some of my colleagues (offline ) about the environment not encouraging femal participation. That aside, its eye opening to see the participants on this thread. It begs the question about gender interest in politics vs disenfrachisement. This is really an eyeopener for me to recaliberate my arguments. .... If you get where I am coming from.

That's actually very funny. ![]() bennybuhari: |
The brouaha about suit with sneakers is actually absurd. This has been an ongoing trend since around 2016 and is a commonplace in 2022. And may I add: its absolutely comfortable! In full disclosure, I dress like this at times and find a lot of people do as well. The fact that people are not exposed to a trend doesnt make it laughble. It shows ignorance imho. Personally, I regard his choice of outfit to mean he (or his dressers) is (are) paying attention to trends. Which in a way MAY (I repeat "MAY" translate to being in touch with present realities.a good reference: https://mensflair.com/suits-with-sneakers/ |
festacman:That's exactly how I interpreted this ,(i.e. post mortem of the election result). I'm not a fan of Tinubu's candidacy, but lets remove the bias |
thanks @stormtrooper, very insightful! |
oh God |
I literarily fell sick and my body ached to the bone just reading this. This is sick. |
Kudos. That depicts the conflict terrain accurately. You seem to have a grasp of the real issue and you are one of the few not carried away by the media sensation. I love my Ethiopian friends - both Oromo and Tigrayans, but this conflict is all about one region (Tigray) not wanting to lose the power grip. ivolt: |
