If its okay for tribune to malign Tinubus Character, Is it now wrong for Tinubu to reply Tribunes paymasters in like manner?
Malighn ke? To say unpleasant things about someone or something, usually unfairly

Point to one thing that the Tribune has said that is untrue? TInubu lied about his background, No? Tinubu claimed to have gone to GCI, No? Tinubu did drugs in Chicago, No? Tinubu uses Area Boys to harass his opponents, No? Tinubu sent his thugs to beat Gani Fawehinmi, No? What has Tribune said about Tinubu that is not public knowledge? He has two Date of Births, How come?

Dayo is on point with this one, he might not like the Awolowos ( I do not particularly like Akintola's politics) but the truth must be told, as I have always said, we respect their baba (Chief Jeremiah Awolowo), every other person must earn our respect, Tinubu has behaved admirably, he has explained himself to Mrs. HID Awolowo, she should call her dogs of war to order, I am ashamed that the Awolowo family is on the side of PDP, those who have brought the SW to its knees.
Well, you choose what to be ashamed of. If I were you, i'd be ashamed of my father too. But Thank God, I am not you. The Awolowo family have every right to associate with whomever. For crying out loud, HID Awolowo is the Yeye Oodua Of Yorubaland, not Yeye Oodua Of Asiwaju Awon omo ole and ACN. She is for all and it would be illogical to expect her to be for ACN Yorubas alone. After all, there are Awoists in PDP, DPA, AD, LP et al

That said, instead of spending your time being ashamed of someone else's father/family, why not work on yourself so your father may be proud of you. Let Awolowo family decide how they want to continue their father's legacy.

Abi, can you be more catholic than the pope? Be more Muslim than the Arabs? Be more democratic than the Greeks?

Let everyone answer to their father's name. If Awolowo were to be alive today, he probably would have joined PDP, so whats the fuss about. They allowed ACN hijacked the name, still that is not enough. What do you want gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan?

Agreeing to forfeit half a million dollars is admission of guilt by itself.

He was charged with a felony. He paid, which is the same thing as admission of guilt under Chicago law.

The case can be used in the future if he ever had any reason to be in court,

Tacitly admitting to a felony makes him a felon.

Why should he sack someone for holding an opinion, abeg make una comout jare, let the old woman too stop responding to someone who is old enough to be her son or grandson sef.
He has a standard to uphold. Standards to live up to, professionally, ethically and culturally. He was  supposed to be professional at all times, even with his "unsolicited opinion." It is the sacrifice you make as a professional. He was supposed to use his 'bully pupit' to inform, educate, report and opine TRUTHFULLY.

He erred the moment he went personal with HID, that if Awo was to come back, he would divorce her. He erred the moment he started stoking the flames of past emotional hurt, referencing the unfortunate death of her first son, 40 yrs ago. He went straight for the jugular because he wanted to exact maximum hurt. No remorse whatsoever. It was deliberate and intentional. In addition, he went over the line when, against his better judgement, could not wait for HID to finish mourning the death of her daughter before criticizing her, baseless-ly. He erred by not sticking to facts, throwing his journalistic ethics to the dogs in the process. Not minding his wanton disregard of basic human decency.

We all have choices to make. We decide how we use our gifts, talents and opportunities. How we treat others is totally under our control. "Choices can be hard. You can seduce yourself with your gifts if you're not careful, and if you do, it'll probably be to the detriment of your choices." If at all anything, why attack a 95 yr old woman, who is still mourning the death of her daughter. In life, especially in Nigeria where your status can change anytime, it is always better to be kind than to be a smartarse.

I'm not saying he should be trusted but so far i havent seen anything in his character to indicate he'd be so foolhardy as to approve of that kind of write up.
What kind of behavior do you expect from a former drug lord?

It simply goes against the grain of what being a yoruba leader entails.
Well, so is lying? stealing? doing drugs? sending assasins at your opponents, NO?

He didnt get to where he is today by insulting those who went before him.
He got to where he is because of his drug money. And he could not have been more vocal in the past because the AD platform he used to launch himself was Afenefere's. He has always had the tendency, but hey, no one goes against Bola Ige and come out alive, not even JESUS would try it. Yeah, Bola Ige was that influential, eloquent and according to his peers, very caustic. You would not have expected him to go against Ajasin or Adesanya. They would have cut him to size and narrated his 'Iragbiji' origin to him, undiluted. They would have reminded him of how he got to where he is

Of course I'm not saying i know the man but the whole thing is very fishy.
This is nothing fishy here. Alex Ibru never wrote an article before Al-Mustapha sent Sgt. Rogers after him. Remember that event. Tinubu planted this. Omatseye is not Yoruba. Omatseye knows nothing about HID Awolowo. He never read any of Awo's books, never campaigned for Awo, and so he made a lot of gaffes that exposed his ignorance, which would only mean one thing:that he was sponsored by Tinubu.

Ebenezar Babtope, Okunrounmu and the Awolowo kids would not have replied if this was just Omatseye. He is an unknown in Nigeria. Besides being a friend to Babafemi Ojudu, he would never have gotten the job as editorial head of 'The Nation' or any other newspaper for that matter. His writing is atrocious for someone of his caliber. Go take a good look at the articles he wrote at 'The News.' His English Professors would be angst were they to see  his articles.

even obj doesnt act like that.
Have you read any of OBJ's book?

that kind of article is more typical of the young upstarts with a god complex who think the world is centered around them and their opinion.
It may well be. But for someone with no connection to Awo whatsoever. There is more to it. How old was he when Awo called HID, his jewel of inestimable value? Think about it Tpiah.

I'd give tinubu the benefit of the doubt on this one.

He has nothing to gain from whatever the article was about, and i think he'd have shown that sort of behaviour long before now if that was his mindset.

He couldnt have gotten to his present level had he shown such behaviour before now.

So i'm inclined to believe some mischievious forces are at work here, trying to discredit him. He's not a small boy who doesnt know his left from his right.

And the writer of that article needs to be investigated.
I promise to not post today, but then i saw this:

And, yes, he has shown this behaviour in the past. He has always been tolerated because he funded NADECO with a lot of drug money. Just as how Omisore was tolerated because of his access to unearned money. Very unfortunate.

You must have left Nigeria a long time ago, probably you dont even know who Tinubu is.

Anyway, a quick summary. He had a fallout with his first deputy-governor, Koforola Akerele Bucknor.

Buckno was a senator in the second republic, before being forced on Tinubu, kinda, by Afenefere, i think. She was NADECO through and through; imprisoned by Abache while Tinubu was enjoying his drug money on the South-Side of Chicago.

Anyway, fast forward to 1998/1999, Tinubu got the AD ticket and wanted to take over the machinery of AD , and if possible field Atiku as presidential candidate from the get go. Bucknor refused to play ball with Tinubu. Tinubu fought back, disrespected her, and made life hell for her until she resigned. Remember how Obj ridiculed Atiku? Tinubu sis more than that to Bucknor.

The point: Tinubu would go to any length to get what he wants. He wanted to take over Tribune, Awo's son fought back. He wanted to be the only one with access to HID and the Awo name, but HID would not succumb to his pressures and subtle entreaties, hobnobbing with OGD et al instead.

All these, amongst many others, infuriated Tinubu, hence, the sponsored Op-ed.

Geddit now.

Anyway, enjoy this clip from Gbenga Adeboye.

It appears Fashola has turned Alausa into the Mecca of smart governance?  He's walking the talk too. I hope he's charging them for the free advice.

They better start cloning him?
We shouldnt get ahead of ourselves Ok?

Lagos used to be the former state capital.

Fashola has more money than they, the rest, will have have access to?

Lagos is the Commercial nerve center of Lagos, not because of Fashola's policy.  Fashola has had no ground-breaking economic policy effect whatsoever on Lagos. He is building roads, No. repairing, yes.  Is he attracting more jobs to Lagos? As in Big companies? Not sure, but havent heard any?  Employment rate in Lagos is still the highest in the country. Are jobs moving away from Lagos? Well, Federal Government parastatals are moving away to Abuja, gradually, but surely. Good thing? Yes and NO? Not sure how many of them, federal employees, pay state tax.

And Glo's HQ is in IB, not Lag? A big loss to Lagos, but quite a good thing for the rest of the country as a whole.

Education? How many schools has he built? How many new teachers has he employed? Any new policy to improve WAEC/JAMB results of Lagos State students? Nada, All these 'bojuboju' thing WRT paying for their exam fees isnt gonna change anything in the long run. We dont even know how much of that amount is actually used to pay for the exam fees and what percentage finds its way to Omo Alhaja's Swiss account.

Health? Not sure whaat he is doing? Gbagada general, from what my friends tell me, is still as decrepit as ever. Lagos State doctors/nurses just came back from strike, init? and LASU professors too, No?

I can go on, but I have other stuff to do.

Anyway, my point is, it is still the usual inept administration we are used to in Lagos, and indeed in Nigeria, besides repairing roads, beautifying streets, employing Tinubu's touts/thugs ( for reasons that are well obvious to us all), his never ending rigmarole with his "mentor," and his, manipulative, penchant to inundate us with seemingly new (already thought off, but discarded by previous administrations),  impractical, 'un-implementable,' yet photo-op-able projects. I really dont get the hullabaloo

Any monkey could have done what he is doing. With money, anyone would have achieved what he has achieved, if not more.

Ystranger, I guess you are so unintelligent to see that you are actually praising Tinubu.

Tinubu as a governor raised the IGR of Lagos from 600million naira to 4billion naira. Obasanjo withheld the funds of all the local governments in Lagos state. He said he'll only release it when Lagos reverts to 20.
OBJ wanted Lagos by all means, hence he starved Lagos of funds thinking to distract Tinubu so that PDP would win Lagos.
Story,  Tinubu was wiser, he drew all of us to his side and we voted FASHOLA, his choice. Tinubu doesnt even like claiming too much credit, that's why you guys have forgotten his accomplishments. Who do you think started BRT? The truth is that, Tinubu's name will forever remain in Nigerian politics. He's the 1 man in Nigeria, the whole of PDP leadership fear.
Mr. Ystranger, Can you name another person please? Please, stop your envy and learn what you can from the guy to better your life. Whether you like politics or not, watch and learn.

I'm sure it was people like ystranger that started circulating text messages against Tinubu days before the National Assembly elections (hiding behind Labour party). I'm tired of your posts sef.
Normally, I dont talk to people that are more intelligent than me, but you are an exception.

So Tinubu should be given the credit for raising the IGR? So he should also get the credit for making Lagos the former Capital of the federation? He should get the credit for attracting companies to Lagos way before he became Governor? He should get the credit for doing a job he was elected to do that anyone else would have done irrespective of party affiliation? He should get the credit for something every Governor is doing ( ever heard of Gateway holdings? Thats OGD's version. Go to the East, they are all doing the same thing)? He should get the credit for all the federal parastatals in Lagos that attracted people to Lagos? He should also get credit for raising the IGR  because the money wasnt already there? He should get credit for it because NO ONE else would have done what he did.  If it wasnt Tinubu, No ONE ELSE COULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING.

What else should he get credit for? For paying salaries on time? He should also get credit for trying to embezzle money in the name of LG creation? For Nepotism in government?

So OBJ wanted to starve/distract Tinubu by withholding how much again? Anyway, you are right? Tinubu is God. He is the unmoved mover. We should also give him credit for creating and discovering Awolowo, since Awolowo always tried to dress like Tinubu. Lets give Tinubu credit for everything!

Tinubu is lagos, lagos is Tinubu.

"THE DECEMBER 10, 2004 SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT

There were two major aspects of the Supreme Court judgment made on December 10, 2004 in respect of the suit filed by the Lagos state government:

1. The Supreme Court held that the federal government had no right whatsoever to withhold allocations meant for local councils in Lagos state or any other state for that matter under the relevant provisions of 1999 constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

2. The Supreme Court also held that the 57 local councils purportedly created by the Lagos state government are "inchoate", that is, inconclusive because specifically, the national assembly has not passed a consequential act as provided by section 8(5) of the 1999 constitution and that for this reason, this purported councils are not entitled to and should not be funded with public money.

Who kept Lagos together when OBJ/PDP starved Lagos state financially for 8 long years?
So Tinubu supported Lagos state with his personal money when OBJ starved it of funds? He took part of his drug money to pay salaries?

He repaired roads with money from his Swiss account?

You are really dumb.

First of all, OBJ did not starve Lagos of money they way you portrayed it. The money we are talking about is mere N10 Billion meant for the new LGs Tinubu created.

A copy of the case report is here:

http://www.nigeria-law.org/Attorney-General%20of%20Lagos%20State%20V%20Attorney-General%20of%20the%20Federation.htm

So simply put, the money was meant for the new LGS, and OBJ still gave Lagos the money that was meant for it if the LGs had not been created.

And, even if your erroneous post was true, which isnt, this is how Lagos survived:

1) The money was supposed to be extra money accruing to the State Government. It isnt money that was deducted from what the State was earning in the past. Tinubu, media savvy as he is, blew the case out of proportion for effect.

2) At that point, Lagos was already earning more money, mostly from corporate tax that hitherto had not been collected. Simply stated, Tinubu at that point was already following Jimoh Ibrahim's play book, making sure that state taxes from companies were collected as at when due.
