ytdivine. I just did my maths and you can plant 74 trees in one plot of land. What other trees that are both cash and food crops can I plant and reap the investments. Also, which location do you think is best for this. Some areas in Nigeria don't have the right weather conditions to favour planting oranges for instance.

Maintain good spacing to reduce competition in nutrients and each tree should have access to sunlight.
To me, what I consider very important in terms of location is water source.
A lot of trees can be planted including pawpaw, lemon, pear, oha, sour sop, and variety of vegetables

One needs to look beyond Nigeria for high yielding orange and coconut species. The internet is there for us to get information about these high yielding cultivars ( Species ). Many crops from abroad will adapt to the Nigerian soil and weather if you are a bit patient . Cheers.

The first thing you need to do is to acquire some piece of land. Young Nigerian youth, land is an invaluable asset, give it top priority. You can never lose in this investment. Many years ago, I bought a piece of land somewhere at #90k, today the value stands at over #1.5m.

While searching for land to buy, please pay so much attention to water. Can water be gotten in the land either through well or borehole?
Please don't buy land where you're not sure of water. Water gives value/taste to land

This project is not for the lazy type. You need a lot of courage to embark on it. From my experience, am going to discuss some factors involved in setting up orange farm.

There is no time of the year that oranges are lacking in my house. I take orange fruit almost every day. Just imagine that. The gain is enormous. There is always money in my hand from this single investment.

This is a sure investment. A lot of money from this oranges alone. My only regret has been not buying plenty piece of land. Young people, I advice you to look in this direction. I hardly broke financially.

2. Orange
About 15years ago, there was this my friend that I looked up to in terms of investment. We use to have both short and long term in our investment plan. This guy started building houses for rent and since I didn't have the resources to do same, I decided to look in the direction of agriculture.
I planted some orange trees. I bought some sweet oranges from market and planted the seeds after licking the fruit.
What I spent was just the cost of the oranges which was around #200.
After the nursery, I transplanted them and was wetting them every day.
Today, am reaping the fruits of my labour

This you may not know but I have to tell you. Coconut can fruit non stopping all year round. You need to add continuous source of water to achieve this

I was invited to NYSC orientation camp to give talks on self employment. I saw right inside the camp wasting assets and human resources.
I saw hectares of land owned by NYSC lying idle. I saw untapped human potentials in the youth that could turn the land asset into job creations and money.
I asked myself why the whole verse land was lying idle?
All we need in Nigeria is just change of mentality and right vision mindset because as a country, we have all it takes to succeed

Nigeria problem is lack of visionary leaders. Do you know that industrialization start from agriculture. If you have about 1000 capacity coconut plantations, this will automatically attract coconut juice, oil, and cake processing companies. Other minor companies and businesses will also be built around it. This translate to more employment and improved the economy.
This one of the reasons I like the present governor of Akwa Ibom state. They are into this project and I know the like of Soludo will follow suit.
Individuals can also carry out this project.

Governor Soludo sometime last year ask Anambra people to plant coconut trees after flagging off the campaign.
