Shikena:I don't know how true this story is though.. But I am curious.. What would the Alaafin had done if the old Ooni had gone ahead to call the bluff of the Alaafin considering the fact that the defunct Oyo empire army which would have done the needful no longer exist? It has gotten so bad that ordinary Ooni's aide is publicly making jest of the Alaafin and nothing will happen. Ooni is not even dignifying him with a response let alone even giving his threat a consideration. Please I am very much interested in what the Alaafin of your story would have done to the Ooni if he ignored the so-called cease and desist assuming the story even happened.. |
pocohantas:You are very correct. Based on his niche and most importantly, his fan base who are dominated by young ladies fantazing a lot about being swept off their feet by that Mr. Right someday, it is a very silly comment to make. To the average African lady, marriage is such a big deal. He could make such comments in private. But from a business perspective, definitely not in public. I get most of these guys get carried away sometimes and forget that they are also into the music business apart from entertaining their fans. If it was someone like an Odumodu Black, it would have fitted well with his brand and the bad boy personae he has created for himself in the industry. But for someone like Chike, it is really an own goal and he should be more careful with his utterances going forward. |
flexyrule:Walahi.. Really educative threads of late.. This reminds me of the late Nairaland of old before all these disrespectful gen-z kids reeking of so much hate and bigotry took over the show because of politics. Cc: Seun, I understand the need for engagements most times irrespective of the quality.. However, please more of these educative threads on front page at least to balance the political bitterness threads.. |
Thelimitbreaker:Yes.. Tinubu is one of the best political strategists in Africa.. But Obasanjo never said anything of such about Tinubu in "My Watch." The circulated post attributed to OBJ has been fact-checked as the figment of imagination of online mischief makers who only wanted to promote Tinubu in 2023... This link will help you: https://factcheck.thecable.ng/fact-check-did-obasanjo-refer-to-tinubu-as-a-thoroughbred-politician-2/ Compare this to what he said about Atiku's propensity to corruption on page 31-32 of the same book which anyone who can read and write in English can verify this minute..If this is not a regurgitated false information, prove me wrong by posting the page of "My Watch" OBJ said it like I just did for Atiku's own. Quick advice bro.. This is 2025..Always fact check anything you see on the internet.. That something is on Google does not mean you would run with the information immediately.. You have to consider if the source of the information is from a renowned credible media source or a hungry blogger looking for cheap traffic to feed. |
guobe:I guessed right that you must be a Nairaland OG.. I wasn't surprised to see that you registered on Nairaland 18 years ago.. That's amazing! |
benardtotti:You make a lot of sense brother.. For a typical African politician, the one term tenure might even make things worse because the little they even try to do in their first term is motivated by their desire to secure a 2nd tenure.. Our challenge is deeper than all this superficial tenure adjustment solution.. From my research of the reasons things are working out in places like Asia, I discovered that they have this deep rooted attachment and love for their culture and land.. Take Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations where monarchy is being practised, you will be hearing things like 10 to 30 years development plan because there is continuity in government.. They derive pleasure in developing their land with a passion.. If it all, there is any form of corruption, the money will still be pooled back into their economy to generate more jobs and prosperity for their people.. An average Japanese leader would rather commit suicide than fly himself to Europe for a medical check up when he can replicate the same world class amenities at home.. It is more of a cultural self-pride thing for them compared to an African ruler who sees it as a class symbol.. The African ruler doesn't even understand the relationship between such continuous actions rooted in deep inferiority complex and the underdevelopment of their land. Nothing happens by coincidence in the universe. Look at China for instance, they are gradually becoming a world power despite frowning at democracy and embracing dictatorship.. Look at what Ghadaffi was able to achieve in Libya despite running an unlimited tenure.. My point is, it is not really about this tenure rotation of a thing.. It is about the deep cultural connection a leader has for his land, origin and people. It is possible for a kind-hearted leader who loves his land to a fault to achieve in 2 years what a wicked leader cannot achieve even if he spends 40 years in power.. African leaders like Paul Biya, Compaore are great examples of this.. Nigeria is too complex and disunited to be running this type unitary form of government where the government is too detached from the people.. It is like a no man's land where they take turn to pillage and massacre the spoil before handing over to the next predator.. Change from Tinubu to a thousand Peter Obi, as long as the foundation remains faulty, things will only continue to get worse because the forces profiting from the present chaos and confusion are much stronger than the masses wishing for a real change. For the meantime, let us continue to deceive ourselves that Nigeria is a country without having the balls to sit down and address the foundational issues. |
naptu2:Egbon Naptu2, I get the point of folks like Amotolongbo.. Cases of athletes like Nkem are the exception and not the rule based on the kind of exposure they had as kids and the background they grew up in.. It is a case of 1 in every 10,000 households if I am trying to be conservative.. Compared to football, there is a case of an Nkem in almost every household.. The football passion in Nigeria is almost equal to that of Brazil where almost every kid must have played the round soccer game as a recreation at some point.. I believe the gap between the two sports in Nigeria should not even be coming up for a debate.. |
dettolgel:You are right brother.. I finished from Igbobi College Yaba in 2002 the year it was returned back to the missionaries after many years of mismanagement by the state government. And I can tell you for a fact we were the only only school around the whole axis that could boast of a single basketball court due to the influence of the missionaries who built the school unlike every other government secondary school in that mainland axis.. The funny thing is, there is hardly no government secondary without a football field which tells you how popular football is in Nigeria compared to basketball.. We used to play basketball competition with the likes of Kings College, St. Gregory's college and CMS Grammar school because they all have basketball court too thanks to the missionary influence. I think the competition used to be called KIGS Cup.. All our neighbouring poorer equipped govt schools couldn't participate in the basketball competitions because of obvious reasons.. Most of them had never even seen a real life basketball before except on TV compared to different qualities of football littered everywhere.. It was that bad. I don't think there is a kid who grew up in Lagos in the 90's who did not know what "felele" was.. This shows you how "elitist" basketball was/is in comparison to football Principal's cup that every govt secondary school in Lagos was participating in during our time no matter how poorly equipped they were.. So I get your point brother.. Naptu2, I must commend you for the wonderful job you are doing.. You remain one of the remaining shining lights on Nairaland.. There is always something to learn from your legendary thread each time.. Keep remaining the legend that you are! |
richiemcgold:It is very simple.. The Yorubas dominate the media profession in Nigeria.. This explains why the headquarters of the major media houses are in the S/West.. It is just like asking why 90% of ICAN executives and past leaders are Yorubas.. It is the same answer in the chartered accountancy field and so many other professional fields too numerous to mention. |
Otsam:If she had waited for clearance, the punishment would have shifted to those in the control room who cleared her when there were people on the tarmac still in harm's way.. And that would have absolved her 100% of any wrong doing. Her license was suspended for letting her emotions get the better of her by almost committing murder or inflicting severe injuries on an unruly passenger who probably was high on alcohol at that period.. She was so deeply angry with K1 that she could not wait to fly even if it means killing all those on the tarmac. |
kedeojo:Femi Otedola is the Chairman of the board of directors of First Bank while Olusegun Alebiosu is the current CEO.. They are not the same role. In fact, Jim Ovia is not the CEO of Zenith bank either like you wrongly corrected the dude.. Adaora Umeoji is.. And lastly, Elumelu is not the CEO of UBA.. Oliver Alawuba is.. It is not every big business owner who doubles as the managing CEO.. That's where delegation comes in.. Please let us cultivate the habit of double checking our "facts" in this day of information availability everywhere before correcting others in public.. |
OctavianAC:In this day of getting almost any kind of information in micro seconds on Google, it beggars beliefs how you guys can still be posting false information with the craziest level of confidence.. Na wah oo.. It is 2025, it is an unforgivable sin if we allow our smartphone to be smarter than us.. |
ROTTWEILER007:He is not of First Bank either.. Olusegun Alebiosu is.. You should have got your facts right in this day of Google and AI everywhere before book shaming and insulting that dude for displaying the same amount of ignorance as you.. |
Hardeybohwarley:I find it amusing how religionists are disowning Kwam 1 on this thread because of his bad attitude.. He actually identifies as a Muslim in all his official documents.. However, he is also a popular member of the Celestial Church of Christ.. He also practises all traditional Ifa rites from time to time as an Ifa devotee.. But when he dies, he will definitely be buried by his ganusi team of Islamic clerics according to Islamic rites like Awujale and other Nigerian elites who see religion as just another platform of socialisation and nothing serious. So it is safe to say he practises IslaChrisIfa which is a combination of the 3 religions. |
aribisala0:I am in my 40's bro.. You are not chatting with a gen-z.. Best 11 means best individuals to ever do it in each position and not the best ranked team like you falsely postulated.. How do we judge each position if not their individual statistics and achievements on the field of play.. Roger Milla, an attacker who is not even in the first 5 of highest goal scorers in Africa.. How do you measure the proficiency of an attacker in the front of goal again? At this point, let's just agree to disagree.. It is fine even if you think Aiyegbeni is better than the all time highest goal scorer in Afcon based on subjective preferences without any hard data to back your views up.. It is fine.. It is the hallmark of beer parlour or viewing centre enthusiasts.. Have a good day once again.. |
aribisala0:I can now see you are trolling.. I do statistics with verifiable facts not emotional trash talking.. Have a nice day.. |
aribisala0:Let's even forget all his European football achievements... He currently holds the record of the all time highest goal scorer at Afcon with 18 goals where our own Rashidi Yekini is 3rd and also the highest recipient of CAF player of the year award which is a whooping 4 times.. I guess these are rubbish statistics then.. |
aribisala0:This will surely help you out.. No other African footballer comes close.. It is not cho cho cho.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5lBUkwv7_U?si=iJpZXXMl0LseUE2j |
To all those shouting Jay Jay, as someone who watched him play in the mid to late 90's very well, I can tell you categorically that Jay Jay was more of a player who loved to play to the gallery with very little contribution to the team.. In fact, Oliseh confirmed this in one of his interviews with Elegbete Sports on YouTube.. He said Oruma was more of a playmaker than Jay-Jay.. Jay Jay was the kind of player you bring in when you were leading the opponents with a good margin and needed someone to frustrate them with his dribbling skills.. It wasn't until he was getting towards the end of his career that his game evolved into that of a playmaker who could marshal the midfield properly unlike the younger Jay Jay who was only an entertainer with little contribution to the game.. In fact, Oliseh even confirmed it further that he was always benched by Westerhof when Nigeria had some very crucial games to win and only brought in after a convincing lead to come and frustrate the opponent while dazzling the crowd.. That explains why most of the bigger European clubs were not looking his way when he was in his prime.. But I must give it to him for refining and stepping up his game towards the end of his career though.. If he had done that when he was younger, he would have been competing with the likes of Pirlo, Zidane or Xavi. |
Shikena:Based on statistics, any best African Xi of all time that is based on merit will always pick Etoo first before considering 10 other positions..Yea..The gap is that huge.. |
Love800:I am a big fan of Drogba but it is highly disrespectful to even place Drogba in a conversation where Etoo is being mentioned.. Apart from being the only African to win the Champions' league thrice with 2 different European clubs.. He is also the only African footballer to have won African best a whooping 4 times.. Aside that, he is currently the all time highest goal scorer at Afcon with 18 goals. And lastly, the only African footballer ever to have made the top 3 best players in the world for the Ballon Dor aside George Weah when he finished 3rd behind Ronaldinho and Lampard in 2005. Give the legend his flowers.. I repeat it is highly disrespectful to compare Drogba to such a player. |
sagitariusbaby:Whether you practise Ifa, Christianity, Islam or Eckankar, every career definitely has an expiry date since no star can reign forever irrespective of one's religious inclinations. It is called the cycle of life. If that wasn't the case, we won't have had Christian gospel singers who used to be in the limelight but not anymore despite always praising Jesus constantly. True spirituality involves the respect of other people's beliefs since there are many paths that lead to the same source but the average religious fundamentalist will never get it. |
Sirianese:The dude is very intelligent and calculative enough not to try such nonsense with a public figure who has the voice and fame like Rashidat unless he has the powers to format her memory. He can only prey on the defenseless and voiceless members of the society. |
Sirianese:Lol.. That's not her brother.. If your source of that funny image is one hungry blogger looking for traffic so bad and not a reputable media outlet, it is really an unintelligent move.. That means you can believe anything you see online without fact-checking the credibility of the source.. It is the same trick the Tinubu campaign media used to slot in the childhood pix of Donald Duke as that of Tinubu.. They know that unintelligent Nigerians who do not ask questions would surely fall it.. I won't dignify you with a response on this issue anymore.. I don't relate with beer parlour rumour mongers who distort facts for a living. |
Sirianese:She never danced for Fela bro.. She has refuted this baseless rumour several times in many interviews. How old is she in the 70`s to have been eligible to dance for Fela when she is only 56? The only link she has to Fela is her dad(Benson Idonije) who happens to be his manager. It is a known fact that 99% of Fela dancers were young girls who found succour in Kalakuta Republic because they had it worse at home.. Most of them had to run away from more deplorable conditions at home. So how could an educated daughter of a veteran and renowned broadcaster like Ben be dancing for Fela in an era where that kind of craft was strictly reserved for the degenerates of the society? In this information age of artificial intelligence, a simple Google search would have revealed all the facts to you instead of regurgitating these unfounded beer parlour rumours.. This is 2025 please.. It remains an unforgivable sin if our smartphone is smarter than us. |
Focusmind:Well said! I am not a fan of Tinubu but until Obi learns the art of building a political structure and delayed gratification from Tinubu instead of jumping from one party to another like a directionless Atiku, he will never achieve much in Nigeria's brand of politics until he is tired. As politically dumb as Buhari was, he succeeded in building CPC when ANPP was constantly giving him headache at some point after being infiltrated by political opponents.. It was what gave him leverage in the merger with Tinubu's ACN.. Imagine he was a permanent political tenant/harlot like Atiku or Obi always looking for a ready made platform to rent before ditching it for a newer bride, he would have ended up frustrated like Atiku.. Obi should seriously watch it.. This Atiku political harlotry model he is currently following is not in anyway beneficial for a very serious politician in the long run. |
coolman199:I agree with you.. He will surely win because this is Nigeria where anything goes.. Aside that, all the current opposition contenders are no different from him and I don't see any of them doing anything differently because Nigeria is just an amalgamation of conflicting interests meant to continually advance the interests of the colonialists and their local puppets at the expense of the people.. It is not a real country in the real sense of the word.. So I would even be surprised if he does not not win. So congratulations to him in advance. |
nairalanda1:His reason for hiding his pre-university days might not be unconnected to the case of identity theft he was involved in before travelling to America... Rumour mill has it that the original Bola in the Tinubu family was a female who is now deceased. That said, the opposition would be making the same mistake they made the last time by grasping at straw.. All these "school or certificate" issues do not win voters over in this part of the world..It is just a waste of precious time and sheer social media tomfoolery. If this is going to be their strategy again instead of reaching out to the real grassroots voters about what they intend to do differently and practical ways they intend to achieve the mean feats, they should be sending congratulatory notes to Tinubu already. |
thatigboman:That's true.. But it is not in anyway a justification for a professional journalist to be in a hurry to post an event of probability still remaining at least 45 minutes unless any bad news about Nigeria gives him constant orgasm... In football, 2 minutes can turn out to be a very long time.. Anyway, his actions are no longer shocking since some of his previous social media posts have exposed him as a sadistic Obidient. |
Omookunnimi:My fellow Okun brother, in as much as I am not a fan of Tinubu, I have never witnessed such a thing in my life since I have been following football in Nigeria since the early 90's in my over 4 decades of existence. No matter how hard things had always been in the country, when it comes to football, nothing brings Nigerians together more than the round leather game in the past. As Yoruba kids growing up in Lagos, we were so in love with the football craftsmanship of the likes of Okocha, Oruma, Yekini, Rufai, Oliseh, Adepoju, Kanu, Taribo etc that I couldn't even differentiate their ethnic nationalities. Imagine my surprise yesterday when I saw these gen-z kids especially from the Eastern region who have taken over Nairaland subconsciously wishing the Super Falcons lost so they can have something to abuse Tinubu about. When that failed, they began to single out all the Igbo girls who scored while downplaying the achievements of other team members from other places in a team sport like football. Despite Oshoala's 6 time Women African footballer of the year title and even going ahead to win the BBC world footballer of the year award once, Perpetua Nwokocha still remains my best African women footballer of all time. At this juncture, with the level of bitterness and animosity towards Nigeria being harboured by these kids where they can no longer see any issue beyond their ethnic prism, Nigeria will never ever work as it is presently constituted until it is restructured or divided like the USSR or Yugoslavia. This is because they would always go out of their way to self-sabotage any little gains being made.. But for now, let the likes of Tinubu keep deceiving themselves that they are running a country. |
Globad:Imagine the unjustifiable weak response he gave just because it is his favourite politician reneging on an agreement he swore publicly to uphold all the days of his life. I am sure he would have lambasted either Tinubu or Wike if they are the ones in Obi's shoes.. And I am also very sure Tinubu's supporters would have done the same thing too to defend their favourite politician if he also reneged on the same agreement. This is the best way to gauge the real intention of a people shouting change.. They are only interested in seizing power for the sake of silly bragging rights and not to bring any meaningful change to their fatherland. I choose to call it the "awalokan" mentality. Same thing also applies to all the silly youths supporting and defending every policy of Tinubu.. They have no love for their fatherland either.. All they care about is getting crumbs from the table of their oppressors.. No wonder APC, ADC, PDP and LP are just different sides of the same useless coin.. If someone cannot come out to say a simple truth about his so-called candidate since no man is infallible, like you rightly said; it is not only a measure of the character of the deceitful politicians they support with all their energy but also their gullible supporters. What a shame! |
destinychildolu:You are so on point. If only Obidients understood the level of hatred and distrust the core Northerners have for an average Igbo man except as a powerless spare tire VP position, they would stop pressuring Atiku to step down for Obi. It won't only be an answered prayer for Tinubu's team, but they won't even need their rigging machinery in the core North to defeat him.. All they need is to pay the local Islamic clerics to start the Biafran campaign of calumny and how he is going to Christianize Nigeria and destroy Islam.. He would be a weak opponent taking into consideration the political dynamics at play in a crazy place like Nigeria unlike the Atiku ticket that might give APC sleepless nights especially in the North. I think it is because of the fear of a likely Atiku tsunami in the North that APC are trying to recruit Kwankwaso for the spoiler job in the North same way they indirectly used Obi in the South the last time. |
