dopeJemi: dey can't be comparedwell said bros, by the way Boogey got much complex delivery and rhymes along with deep lyrics in his songs, if you want some lectures Boogey would definitely school you. Erigga is madly talented, he raps in pidgin and his songs are deep with massive story telling laced on it... Erigga is not an abstract rhymer, but portrays real life and the street the way it is, also massive imagery on his songs more like audio-visual. |

It was 7.25pm couple minutes after the Magrib prayer was announced, I was in my basement somewhere around a village in Moro local government. While the gleam from my Blackberry device beams at me, and ReDkad's Dreams providing an enabling backdrop for me to reflect on my pasts. However, within this moment, several thoughts had flashed on my sensory organs, then suddenly a tremor was felt. And I was trying to figure out what the cause of the vibration was, until a loud bang accompanied. The variations of thoughts in my memory rippled on some regular tirade usually made by our noisy neighbours. oh! This time around it was something deeper than that. Some weeks back, that basement had witnessed wave of attacks from intrusive groups. And most of those time, I am usually not in the block whenever this happens, but a very clear account of the event will be narrated to me by eye-witnesses. Meanwhile, it is Aso Rock, they are under attack! the next thing I could hear from there was the clause;"Omo Ayè kan nbe ni bi" "open the door" was the next, as their attempts to enter the room was abortive, they had to resort to the hard way by forcing their way through the door, armed with machete and clubs, they made their way through successfully. At this point, sounds of chattering glasses whistled through, they broke the louvres, and it was unclear whether it was a robbery attack or a cult rivalry revenge mission considering someone might have raised their lowered eyebrow during the previous fights they had, they didn't cart away anybody' property, but the way they carried out their operation pointed out one thing... www.20bmn./2013/03/05/the-wrath-of-the-gangs-another-bitter-pill-to-swallow/ |
When my girl calls Now it's Tweezy's As E Dey Go, it's a catchy rnb tune, since my girl loves it, there's no reason why I should change, when mum calls it's Praiz's Rich and Famous, and other calls I use I Know by Styles P. |

Mixtape Review; TeeKlef – NoBeatIsSafe (NOBIS) For an upcoming artist, versatility would not only be a massive boost to his career, but night even be the springboard that sets him/her off to the stars. TeeKlef whose real name is Ebuka Unogu and signed to his own record label definitely doesn’t have this in short supply. In 2011, he burst into the airwaves when he came second finalist in the famed enigma competition organized for upcoming rappers by the then Mo hits boss, Don Jazzy where he brandished his singing and rapping ability. His latest effort ‘NOBIS’ is a body of work that featured few posse-cuts, massive sound reproduction and concentrated versatility. He made the beats his own, capitalizing on these to satiate the numerous yearnings of listeners craving for Rnb and rap. Perhaps the creative intentions on this work led to indecisiveness in some cases whereby he seemed somewhat torn between singing and rapping leading to the unnecessary prolongation of songs such as: “En route | For Me”. “… they never see it/ they never see me see it/ but when it all come together/ that is when they start to see it.” The “NoBis” has a quite self- explanatory concept, but Klef limited himself to it without any digression and continued the trend on a two-in- one “Wassup” where he sampled Lil’ Wayne’s mirror on the second, taking his lines majestically on the first with a high powered vocal performance on the second; “for real niggas y’all messing with a real nigga, the real nigga recognize he’s a real nigga, am talking triple OG kinda trill nigga, so when we murder collabos they say we kill niggas”? Just like every other rap mix tape and CDs, “NOBIS” didn’t seem to lose its brag code with numerous catchy personal appraisal lines on; “1000 grammys”, “The One”, “wassup | mirror’’ and the vastly relationship- inclined songs like; all over your body, don’t runaway, my art, and should’ve known better, all acknowledge his abilities in both singing and rapping which might presumably be hard for him to ferret out which one he does better. The piece de resistance of this 17 tracked tape is the wit, versatility and dedication with which it was executed especially being an upcoming act. Irrespective of these, the fact that he stayed far too much on the safe side of “No Beat Is Safe” affected his adaptability as he failed to tour other genres taking too much care with a rakish tempo except on; “don’t run away” where he worked with a more Nigerian sound.www.thawatcha..com/2012/10/mixtape-review-teeklef-nobeatissafe.html |

The definition of realness and absolute intelligence is actually what Tha Erigma encompasses in a flurry of storytelling and ingenious narratives delivered in the language of the street with a substantial dose of punch lines and witty wordplays. It was laced in such a way that both core hip hop heads and punch line fanatics can easily relate with, with the album creating a fusion of braggadocio, core hip hop and pure lyricism. The truth is hip hop can be delivered in any language as long as its fundamentals are strictly adhered to. The strong points of the album include Erigga’s good diction and the way he brought rap to the streets in fluent language from the first snare to the last beat of the album. He proved critics wrong with this album proving that hip hop can be done in any pattern as long as the correct dose of realness is included. Provided he sticks to this formular, he’s sure to succeed. Erigga is signed onto Snowman’s record label, New Money Entertainment. This album brings forth his street experiences in rich storytelling and witty wordplays, his life on the creeks of the south-south, his personal relationship and a bit of socially conscious joints. He showed an innate ability to take listeners through a wide range of informal lectures with his pidgin English laden words and revamped proverbs. Erigga is however noted to have made blasphemous comments on most of his tracks such as: “my mille dey provoke I no dey gree go church/ but I go die? When igbo dey smell for my cloth…” with subsequent flows to buttress his points on “story story”. Irrespective of this, he managed to inspire listeners with his bars and hooks. The pidgin-English infused phrases and words used might be difficult for listeners with no street experience to decode, but it might as well educate them by taking listeners through pictorial rhymes and composite occurrences in the streets. Some of the commonly used words and clichés in the album include: ‘kpo’- smoke, ‘ kpo-kpo’- police, ‘gbaga’- gunshots, ‘luga’- double barrel gun, ‘bistrot’-bar, ‘okpo’- prostitute,’ sk’- marijuana, ‘kra-kra’- shoot, ‘daga’-knife/straff, ‘bee’- call, ‘zoos’-relax, ‘buga’-brag, ‘ogaga’-gang members/militant and ‘poof’-die amidst a rich host of other street slangs. Most times some of his songs seemed to advocate gangster life, but he clearly preached against it on “wicked man” while also taking a punt at the state of things in the nation with a satiritic approach to both verses he took on the track where he featured Oritse Femi; “2’o’clock for night I sit down for my doormot dey blaow/ with the hope say all the pain go comot as how?/ I just receive wan mumu call/my padi for Ekpoma dem just use am count scores/”, “which kain life be this wey one man go sit down on e own p dey feel pain for e fellow man/ boko dey bomb for one side, but that wan no pain them”. His cinematic delivery must be praised on joints like: ‘no go away’, ‘wicked man’, ‘dem no get two head’, no go away, alcohol and wild wild west, while his performance was subpar on “binu binu” which featured Klever Jay. Even Klever performed below expectations with a clear overdose of autotune dousing his true abilities. Nonetheless, this was a good attempt by Erigga altogether. Thumbs up! thawatcha..com/2012/09/album-review-erigga-tha-erigma.html?m=1 |
After a couple of years in the music industry, Edge Record’s Reminisce has made his way into the Nigerian music limelight with the release of his smash single ‘’kako bi chicken” that has earned him a considerable fan base as the song turned out to be a house hold one pronounced one along with a massive commercial success. But during the course of the album release he was wrapped in a controversial near one sided beef with Ace Rapper signed to YSG Entertainment, Vector Tha Viper which has basically sprung a reply to the Jab where Vector capitalized on an AQ Song (Distractions) to counter Reminisce’ subliminal on a one minute track titled; Ata. The Book Of Rap Stories which is his debut album hit stores the first quarters of 2012 with most of the songs following the same concept as the commercially successful “kako bi chicken” as Reminisce’ attention was shifted to a much more party and dance-oriented kinda songs. Nonetheless, he still manages to include some quality in this whole body of work and his undisputable ability to select beats for songs comes to fur on nearly all songs. read the full review @ www.thawatcha..com/2012/09/album-review-reminisce-book-of-rap.html?m=1 |

Twitter> @Nauteeq_Muh The term ‘wack’ has been misused by listeners of music globally. Numerous times multiplesongs have been written off either because the artist tried to include new sounds in his/her songs which were unlike their usual sigature sounds or because they made music different from the type that brought them to the limelight. This might partly be due to a mythical belief that musicians from one geographical area make better music than those from another. The case of the southern rappers as against West-coast and East-coast rappers comes to mind. The west-coast and the east-coast rappers are believed to be the best while southern rappers are labeled as WACK ab initio, but recently some rappers from the south have proven this obscene theory wrong such as Killer Mike and T.I. who is acclaimed to be the king of the south have all shown their prowess on the m-i-c. Likewise in Nigeria songs are said to be WACK due tolisteners’ subjective validation as most listeners actually do not give many songs a second listen to pick out what was really said. Mostly, listeners judge songs according to the comments they read on the internet or recommendations of the song byfriends ignoring the fact that music tastes vary per head and no two individuals can actually share the exact same view on a song. An example of this is the recently concluded BET Cypher where Mode Nine, M.I., Naeto C, XO Senavoe and Ice Prince all participated. XO was brutally criticized primarily due to a comment on a popular blog. The huge difference between a WACK song and sub-par song is nearly not been considered at all. While a wack song can be totally outrageous and unacceptable, sub-par songs can easily be traced to commercial sell-outs where an artist that churns out quality songs with concentrated arrangement of themes compromised quality for commercial success. These types of songs can easily be related to. A good example of this is Terry G when you compare his ‘Love you sexy’ days in relation to the recent ‘Free Madness’ and ‘Akpako Master’ tune and M.I.’s Talk About It and M.I. II; The Movie... “My enigma didn’t make it to the top 10, was it that bad? Was it boring ?” is the rhetorical question that EFA Iwara spiked at the listeners on E2DFA. The rapper who is currently signed to Bayo Omisore owned Jus’ Kidding entertainment released E2DFA a couple weeks ago and he says it is his most personal work to date. Meanwhile, the unproven prolific rapper earlier gave us a panoramic view of his capabilities with his freestyle over the Don Jazzy produced “enigma” beat competition where he specifically narrates a certainpolitical uprising, presumably in Jos where a man was killed while his wife and daughter were at home expecting him to arrive. Unfortunately the gunmen were also at the doorstep waiting to commit another gruesome act. He did the same on his 5 tracker ‘Waka’ EP. EFA‘s conscious part was really drastic with a lushand lucid wordplay direct from his heart. E2DFA is not just another conscious songfrom EFA, but also a song that cuts across a wide range of challenges faced both by the music industry and Nigeria in general ranging from his own personal struggles, and the negative attitude of Nigerianparents toward music, particularly rap: “… then I have a father who didn’t understand, I sent you to school to get a job that’s theplan”...
