Also, i think using cement is not going to make a very strong road. As time goes on, there would be cracks when trucks start using the road.

Asphalt is the best, the problem is the thickness. Where they suppose to use like 4cm thick, they use 2cm. That alone will not make it last.

Abia deploys cement technology in road
construction

IT is no more news that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia
State is constructing four roads in Aba with cement
technology or what experts call, rigid pavement technology.
What is news, perhaps, is that he is setting a pace as far as
this technology is concerned in Nigeria be- cause, apart
from the airport tarmacs and factory platforms where big
engines and machines are installed, cement technology is
not yet a common experience in Nigeria, especially in road
construction. Again, when you consider the realism of the
economic state of most states in Nigeria including Abia,
you will agree that Ikpeazu is making a miracle with this
high cost intensive project at this time.
Yet, he is going ahead confidently and unrelentingly. He has
taken the bull by the horns and launched the experiment on
four roads – ENUC Road, Umuola Road, Owerri Road and
Ejefu Road. He has already recorded a feat with the
completion of the ENUC Road, off Udeag- bala. For him,
there is no alternative to quality and again, it is a matter of
priority. His priority to give Abians quality, durable and
sustainable roads that would stand the test of time.
Thus, he is excited that he is pioneering with cement
technology in Nigeria and giving Abias a legacy of quality
and standard. In a recent chat, he gave explanation as to
how the technology is constructed. He said the construction
engineers use a mixture of crush rock-based materials and
other items to achieve a thickness fill and compaction to
the level of 300mm and then cast with concrete
reinforcement with 8mm to 10mm high tensil ( mash of
wires) reinforcement bars over the stabilized base course
before treatment with prime coat and asphaltic concrete.
The governor disclosed that though the cost of this
technology is higher than the conventional construction
methods, he has chosen to experiment on it as a measure
to strengthen the load bearing capacity of some roads in
Abia and boost the strength and quality of the finished
work, adding that roads constructed with this technology
has a sustainability guarantee of ten to twenty years.
The Governor further stated that the cement technology will
address the challenges raised by the soil examination
conducted on the three roads, noting that the process
involves soil stabilization which is a process of introducing
materials that have properties which the routine construction
materials or naturally occurring materials lack to further
strengthen pavement and improve the load bearing capacity
of the roads. While disclosing that the cement technology is
used in the construction of airport run-ways, tarmac and
places that carry high load bearing capacity machines and
equipments, the Governor said it is a good solution for
achieving sustainable roads in Nigeria, as it is better and of
a higher value than the conventional method of using only
asphalt.
Indeed, this vision of Ikpeazu is instructive because Aba
people had been witnesses to roads that wear out after the
first rain. After the dance and the ju- bilation, the rains will
come to put a lie to their joy. It has been a recurring circle.
But, today, Governor Ikpeazu is set to change the narrative
and says the tech- nology is more durable and more
sustain- able and will be extended to other roads in Abia in
the days ahead.
The governor is working hard to achieve this change of
narrative. Last Thursday, he inspected the roads under
construction in Aba, and expressed satisfaction over the
quality of work so far done on the roads, especially the
drain- age network attached to the roads and assured that
quality will not be compromised. He disclosed that his
government is committed to delivering quality roads to the
people and that the cement technology adopted by the
government in road construction in the state is aimed at
making the roads last longer. He also warned that
contractors who are not flowing with the new vision in the
area of performance will be shown the way out. He also
expressed optimism that twenty out of the forty-five roads
that the government was working on currently will be
completed within the dry season.
Will he pull down illegal structures that are standing on
service lanes? The governor said the demolition exercise
must continue. He said he will not hesitate to knock down
any illegal structure that obstructs the construction work
going on in Aba. He promised to give attention to St
Michaels’ Hospital and Jubilee roads in Aba which are in
dire need of rehabilitation, adding that the Umule road which
he described as strategic will soon be completed. Among
the roads inspected by the governor include Umuola,
Ehere,St Michaels,Jubillee,Umule and Umuocham Roads,
and others. He was conducted round by the Commissioner
for Works, Eziuche Ubani.
Aba is indisputably, the economic nerve centre of the South-
East and “Japan” of Africa. But, in recent years, the city
witnessed a massive retrogression in development. Thus,
all the parties in the last political campaign centred their
message in rebuilding the city. All the parties offered their
blueprint for a total overhauling of infrastructure. But,
Ikpeazu’s programme encompasses a total repositioning
and this involves both infrastructural renewal, trade and
investment rebranding and capacity building.
This broad approach of Governor Ikpeazu has given birth to
many tactical actions directed towards developing the latent
ingenuity and creativity for which Aba is celebrated. It has
led to a renewed attention to the artisans of Aba and a
review of the future of the fabled Aba Made Goods. It has
led to a general sanitation of the city including the open
markets. There is a new masterplan of road network that
will be unveiled in the days ahead. Aba will witness new
things, including overhead bridges and new boulevards.
Today, the success of Ikpeazu’s experiment with cement
technology goes to confirm two things: his determination to
rewrite the bad story of Aba and reinforce the truth in the
paradox, “Where there is a will, there is always a way”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has expressed outrage over attacks on Nigerian judges by Governor Ayodele Fayose, saying the governor’s action represented “a paradoxical assault by a man who holds the judiciary in contempt even though he is also the greatest beneficiary of assault on the same purportedly corrupt judiciary in his political career”.
Fayose had last week accused Nigerian judges of corruption, saying some of them were in the habit of begging to be appointed as election tribunals chairmen in order to extort money from politicians.
The governor spoke at the opening of the Nigeria Legal Year organised by the Ekiti State Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Ado-Ekiti.
In what seemed a sustained attack on the judiciary, the governor also accused the Akwa Ibom and Rivers states election tribunal judges of corruption in their judgments nullifying the elections of Governors Emmanuel Udom and Nyesom Wike, saying that they succumbed to the federal might to nullify PDP’s victories in favour of President Muhhamadu Buhari’s APC.
The party also expressed support for raising a Board of Inquiry (BOI) by the Nigerian Army to investigate the roles of its men during the June 21, 2014 elections which saw Fayose’s emergence as Ekiti State governor.
It said the initiative would reveal the travesty of justice championed by the Nigerian Army in cahoots with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP’s) leaders to commit treason in the illegal change of political leadership in Ekiti State.
The Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in statement in Ado-Ekiti that it was an irony that Fayose, “who is a beneficiary of lawless and anti-democratic conduct and a principal participant in the ignoble plot to spit on the Nigerian Constitution and who should be cooling his heels in jail” should be the one accusing the judiciary of corruption.
“We never knew that Fayose would be the one accusing anyone of using the federal might to an electoral advantage.
“Where is Fayose’s conscience taking into consideration the impunity with which the Nigerian Army officers and men were used by President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to intimidate the opponents to enable Fayose win the June 21, 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State?
“It is baffling that the same Fayose is the one now accusing without proof that Buhari is using the federal might to manipulate the judges to cancel the Rivers and Akwa Ibom elections, which all Nigerians and the world condemned as the worst in the history of the nation.
“It is regrettable that Fayose is always having his jokes on the judiciary that decent Nigerian leaders built to serve as a sacred sanctuary of justice, but which Fayose has turned to a lap dog that he can whip at his pleasure.
“He invaded the court with his thugs to beat a judge black and blue, tore his coat and stormed the Chief Judge’s office, broke the door and tore court records there while the Chief Judge’s secretary was mercilessly beaten.
“He created various obstacles to slow down his prosecution in the N1.3b poultry project fraud trial by the EFCC and orchestrated closure of the courts for a long time to prevent hearing on his perjury case to pervert the course of justice. But we wish to remind Fayose that these various assaults on the judiciary are worse than corruption,” Olatunbosun explained.
The party noted that a probe of Ekiti election scandal would reveal the roles of the military officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army in their manipulative and unlawful acts in the 2014 contentious governorship election to change a lawful government illegally.
“Nigerians and indeed the international community are interested in how other dramatis personae whose voices were heard in the audio tape secretly recorded by an Army Intelligence Officer, Captain Sagir Koli, will be made to account for their roles in their unlawful and criminal, anti-democratic conducts,” he said.
The APC spokesman said the party and Ekiti people whose wishe were thwarted by soldiers on June 21 would not relent until justice was done and the culprits brought to book.
“The APC as a party will continue to circulate the audio tape that reveals the details of the evil plot of how Ekiti was thrown to the dogs so that the whole world will know the identities of the criminals who will not allow the law to work but will now turn around to accuse the judiciary of constituting a threat and road block to justice administration through corrupt practices.
“We want the Army and Federal Government to pursue this matter to a logical conclusion to make sure that never again shall criminals posing as national leaders and other political locusts ravage our democracy as was done on June 21, 2014,” Olatunbosun concluded.

1.) The writer is a minority from the north and christian. Biafra's freedom means he will become a 'superkaffir' in the Islamic Arewa north. We all know that northern states do not even allow the teaching of Christian religious studies in their government school.

2.) He is afraid of the fact that the source of 'Northern Unity'- which is the hatred for the East will no longer come into play, that means his people (minority non-hausa/fulani christians) will become the obvious punching bags for the feudal Muslim north. I sympathize with his fears.

3.) He is still banking on the divide-and-rule machinery of Ahmadu bello, to continue to scare the Igbos against Ijaws and vice versa, but like many 'quota system'northern PhD holders, he is not in tune with the current trend, he should have taken a trip to Igweocha or Akwa Ibom and guage the response there during the arrest of Kanu.

4.) Hope he doesn't have a PhD in history because history taught us that the Igbo lived side by side with other tribes as equal patners in trade and customs before lugard happened on us. Can he same of his northern region why fulani came all the way from futa djallon to subjugate his people?

5.) Hope he doesn't have a phD in geography because if the Igbos were land locked the British wouldn't have met us before going up north to meet his fathers. Obuaku, Igweocha are 5 minutes away from the atlantic. He shouldn't cry for Biafra rather he should start thinking of making an Ocean in the sahara desert for importation of muslim prayer mats as he will need it to survive it in Arewanistan.

6.) Biafra will Not war with itself over oil or land. Fulani have given the resource owners only 13% of their own resources. Biafra wants them to have their resources 100%, let Imo's oil develop imo, let ijaw's product develop ijaw, let anioma's produce develop anioma, let akwa ibom's keep their resources, those who don't have can farm and export in ebonyi, those in anambra can manufacture technologies and export, Aba will export its textile, shoes, bags and cloths like Zara in spain.

I don't have a PhD, but we all know that a Diploma held by a Biafran is greater than 20 almajiri PhDs' earned by quota system.
