acidtalk: You ALL need to wake up and smell the Roses (not the conffee).

The Problem of Nigeria is NOT the so called Expatriates but rather your Bloody Labour Law and MINISTER OF LABOUR.

How where else in this world will you find a Labour Minister calling peaceful protesters JOiBLESS MiSCREANTS when the same government instead of providing jobs for the growing population is there laying off government workers, stealing pension funds and looting the budget allocated to such ministry.

There is no where in this world except Nigerian were expatriate head managerial positions up to 80% while the home citizens are left with demeaning managerial positions like Head Of Security, Head of Store / Library and the other useless names they dish out.

Someone mentioned Huawei; using that company as a case study, how else will someclueless chinese dropouts come and head departments and be paid fat salaries and allowance yet Master degree holders who are Nigerians are made to remain on one position for 5-8years with very meager salary increase and yet being treated so poorly.

Banks, Telecoms, Oil and Gas, Transport, Insurance, industry, Private and Government owned institutions lay off staff unjustly and yet there is absolutely no Labour Law to protect them.

I say it over and over again, the day Nigerians Drop religious and ethnic sentiments and fight the REAL and Common enemy of this country the better for all.

A country were billions of naira are allocated to a Labour Ministry as well as Youths and Sports and yet there are no Entrepreneur training programmes and emporwerment skills those budget are used for the citizens of this country.

Ghana has a 60-40 Labour Law in which in any given foreign company, 60% of the managerial positions are left of the Ghanian citizens and the rest for the expertriates.

Is it not this same country we hear that some certain staff can't go beyon a certain floor of their company because they are 'blacks' and termed as inferior?

Well......Not God but man (you and I) will change the situation of Nigeria if we really want a better and brighter tomorrow.
In addition, I would like to add that the entrepreneurial spirit is lacking in Nigeria. Is it too much for a few students with a passion for a field to set up a small company in that field and make the best of it?Nigerian students all seem to have this mentality that I should finish my education and do NYSC so that I can go and look for a job. Thats why the employment market is flooded even with first class students that should be experts in their field and NYSC is not even helping matters. People are always saying that funding is the problem but if 20 students come together, I am sure they can find a means to fund the business on a small scale and let it grow. We need to get our dignity back by not relying on a foreign company to put food on your table.
CultureRe: Why Do Nigerians Look At White People As Advanced Humans by zander87: 2:09pm On Jun 29, 2012
All people and race are equal under God. The difference we think we see are institutional differences which makes their society superior to ours. For instance, I am not aware of any African company that spends a lot in (Research and Development)R&D and most African countries do not have patent protection. If you give caucasians our institutions and societies, they too will consider themselves failures. The jumbo jet was made possible because of the hefty subsidies for R&D that Boeing and Airbus received from the American and European governments respectively.

I agree with tp. In addition, I would advise that you engage properly in your role and don't slack off. Learn as much as you can about the different aspects of the company's operations and gain solid achievement in the company. Your achievements will always be yours and people will respect you for them. You can always work on solving a problem, researching alternatives to key decisions or leading projects and judge yourself to the highest standards. After 2-4 years of experience, apply to a top 10 MBA program and finish that strongly and engage with your school. You can then work in a top consulting outfit like Mckinsey for as long as you like (1-3 years) and then return to the company with excellent business insights which would make you invaluable to the company.

My 2 cents.

All the best.

As far as the generators have the same specifications, the color makes no difference. The same goes for Elepaq.

I have been following this thread with great interest.I think you guys are doing a good job in demysifying the terrain.I have some question though;

What kind of training programmes can someone at entry level expect from an investment bank in Nigeria and do these firms organise training courses for their staff away from the office ?

Apart from salary, are their any other criteria that seperates one investment firm from another which a potential employee should consider?

Thanks.

Thanks for the comment tkb,but I have some questions,

1.Given that I would be available to start work from the begining of september, when do u think would be the best time for someone to drop my CV with these companies in order to be called for test in september?

2.Do the investment banks have a specific period when they employ people at entry level?

3.Can u plz list the names of some of the oil and gas firms u where refering to(as I have applied to exxon mobil and shell without luck)?

Thanks.
InvestmentRe: Top 10 Best Nig. Investment Banks In This Meltdown Period? by zander87: 9:35pm On Jun 09, 2009
Hi guys,

I am interested in starting my career at entry level with an investment bank in corporate finance.I am currently studying for a masters degree in the UK due to end in september and have completed the ACCA qualification. Is it possible for me to send my CV to them(and if so how as the websites do not have a career section through which one can send a CV) before I return to Nigeria as I do not want to return to Nigeria before I begin a lengthy selection process and I guess these firms have a period within which they recruit in a particular year.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
