PoliticsRe: Electricity Workers Demand Withdrawal Of New Tariff by zeyt: 7:37pm On Apr 14, 2024
The problem is that the DISCOS will concentrate the power supply to customers on Band A to the detriment of other Lower Bands.
This is because the Megawatt being generated is increasingly insufficient.
PoliticsRe: FG To Remove Electricity Subsidy, Current Tariff Rates Unrealistic - Onanuga by zeyt: 1:43pm On Apr 03, 2024
The biggest mistake the FG made in the power industry is privatization of NEPA. The entire Generation plants cannot operate to the full capacity due to low remittance from DISCOS. The DISCOS incur about 60 percent loss in the course of their operations.
The problem is that the Generation can't supply enough Megawatts to the National grid even if they do the Transmission infrastructure cant bear the load. While majority of the people and businesses cant afford to pay for 24hour power supply due to high level of poverty. So stable power supply in Nigeria with current arrangement is just a pipe dream.
who is to blame ?
Now the government is planning to remove subsidy on electricity and once again running away from its responsibility even further.
With high level of poverty in the country government is everything for the populace.

PoliticsRe: National Grid Collapses Again by zeyt: 4:39am On Mar 29, 2024
Nigeria need to have about 40,000 Megawatts for stable power supply. Currently the power generation stood at around 4000 Megawatts. Even if Nigeria decides to to generate above that the ageing and dilapidated power infrastructure well buckled. Nigeria is never serious in finding last solution in the power industry.

We import most of the things we use.

If we start selling oil in naira, can we buy from China and Europe with Naira?

It will bring more hardship.

Why don't we wait till we start producing most of the things we use in Nigeria?

Nigeria is like a child that his father is a Village palm wine tapper, managed to send him to a university, and the child is trying to chill with the big boys, it will end in tears.
You sound like a proponent of US Dollar
Will appreciate it if you elaborate on how selling oil in Naira will bring more hardship.
If for example China want to buy Nigerian oil China has to secure Naira first. The value of Naira increases in the process. Currently Naira is like a trash in the international arena.

Unproductive money here to my understanding encompasses money stolen from government or non government coffers, ransom money, fraud money, bribe money. All the money illegally acquired without creating any value in return but to be expanded for another lawfully created value. This way Naira is like trash in the international arena.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF SANCTIONS ON GUINEA, MALI, NIGER, AND BURKINA FASO

President Bola Tinubu has called for the suspension of economic sanctions imposed on Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea by ECOWAS.

Speaking at the Extra-ordinary Summit of ECOWAS in Abuja on Saturday, President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the organization, stated that: “Everything we did was in hopes of persuading our brothers that there existed a better path, a path that would lead to genuine improvement of their people’s welfare through democratic good governance. And this was a path each of our nations had solemnly agreed with one another pursuant to formal regional treaty and protocol.

“However, the sanctions that we contemplated might help lead our brothers to the negotiating table have become a harsh stumbling block. In my mind and heart, that which is hurtful yet ineffective serves no good purpose and should be abandoned.

"ECOWAS was established for the unassailable objective of improving the lives of the people of this region through fraternal cooperation among all member states. This edifice was cemented on the strong foundation and apt conviction that, united as one, we can be the true masters of our destiny."

The President further explained that ECOWAS took the steps it did based on the regional ideals of security, social stability; democratic governance, political freedom, broad-based prosperity, and sustainable economic development through fair opportunity for each and every one in West Africa.

He said neither hatred nor hidden motive influenced the steps taken and that there was never any intention to douse or undermine the legitimate political aspirations of any member state or to advance the interests of any outside party.

In calling for the suspension of sanctions, President Tinubu stressed that: "We must take note of the approach of the holy month of Ramadan and of Lent. Whether you pray in the mosque or in the church, this represents a time for compassion, hope, and harmony. It is a time that we must not only seek God but also a closer relationship with brother and neighbour.

"In the Spirit of the holy month and of the Lenten period, and with hearts bestirred by goodwill towards all our people, let us extend a hand as brothers and friends to those in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

"What I suggest in real and practical terms is that we, my colleagues and fellow heads of state in ECOWAS, indefinitely suspend economic sanctions against Niger, Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso and against the leadership of the military authorities in those nations."
So insinuating Democracy is the perfect system. If that is so look at us Nigeria

Even the BRICS countries use dollars...since the so called BRICS thingy started dollar have only gotten stronger not weaker.

BRICS is just bravado to threaten the US, some of the members are mortal enemies, imagine India and China, they don't even trust each other.

It's bound to fail in the long run.
Talk of SWITCH alternative being developed by BRICS will allow the member countries to settle payments in local currencies thereby strengthening it.

The point is not to ditch the Dollar at once but to move away from over reliance on Dollar. BRICS is not politics but provocative measure break Dollar dominance in the international domain. BRICS are currently developing alternative of SWITCH which give Dollar unfair advantage on the International payment system. It's not about hollow threat or anything.

This is wrong Mr Bwala. It would be better to ban transactions (in Dollar) for expensive items of luxury like fancy cars, jewelries. Medical treatment for cosmetic surgeries investment abroad, prestigious school, leisure travels.
Final solution is to slowly ditch the dollar by joining BRICS countries.
