You are right o! The expectations on our naija men can be daunting! I get your point now, and I can imagine how it can drive a man to frustration is he has spent a large chunk of money taking care of a lady, and all her extended family only for her to travel abroad and decide that he isnt good enough for her anymore. These days it works both ways too. The level of hunger in naija has caused a lot of men to look at women abroad as cash cows and their way out of poverty. It is well sha. May God grant us wisdom and discerning spirit to tell right from wrong. EVILFOREST: |
Nigerian men also need to learn how to treat their wives better as well. I can assure you that a Naija man married to a white lady will not sit down and wait for his wive to go to work, come, go grocery shopping, come back make meals, clean house etc. He will chip in and help out at home, and will pamper his oyibo/foreign wife... but when he's married to naija lady thats not the case. He balances and acts like a God in his home. EVILFOREST: |
So did the letter tell you to log into ceac.state.gov to register? Or not? Duuzsz: |
Thank you very much for the detailed response. I will call their customer care service again. I called them this morning after wasting my credit the agent on the line said his computer wasnt working and he couldnt help me. PhantomXcess: |
Any update? Did you collect your passport yet? Or you’re just gonna let it sit at the embassy? omowaleola: |
Pls delete if not allowed .. I couldn’t find a thread to post this... Does anyone know how one can roam an mtn Naija number from overseas? Typically before one leaves Naija it’s usually adviced that one sets up roaming. But in a case where this wasn’t done how can one figure out this roaming issue from the USA? We put on the Naija mtn phone yesterday and couldn’t find any signal at all here in the US? |
What does the letter you got say? Typically every letter or email you get from the NVC or consulate usually has clear instructions .It should tell you the next step to follow. All the best. Duuzsz: |
Seems she may have been placed in administrative processing, if she was asked to get some documents after her visa interview. If theyve received the documents, I think they handle cases on a first come first serve bases. And now with this Coro thing who knows if they are still going to work or working remotely. Looks like it may be a while before you hear from them...maybe a month or two?It is well. All hope is not lost. Regarding her inadvertently stating that she has never been denied a visa, I dont know if now that her case is in administrative processing and they are doing thorough vetting, if that may be used against her. In everything, especially regarding immigration, its always good to be as honest as possible. Nevertheless all hope is not lost. Sending my prayers. The other 4 applicants where they also issued the white paper requesting additional documents? Vietnaminfo: |
I know its such a sad situation! Luckily I saw the signs and was able to move our flight forward to last week. Now praying for health and to be safe against this coronavirus. At the time we took a chance cos cases werent that much in Naija, so it seemed stupid to be flying down to US. Even went ahead to pay for green card sef before living. On the plus side getting into US ( border and custom) was relatively stressfree, infact line was longer for Americans than for others.. which is not typically the case. Hopefully all will die down and everyone would be able to get in before May. But to be proactive I would suggest sending an email to the US embassy, and the consulate in Lagos, asking what would happen if through no fault of your's youre not able to travel before the visa expires due to lock down. -if I were in your shoes that's what I would do... though I thought the visas are usually issued for 6months? so wondering why you guys waited this long though before making travel plans. Most people travel within a month of getting their visa sirgigs: |
You didnt tell us what category of visa she applied for. Also did she receive a white paper stating that she is being considered for a waiver? Or did she receive a blue paper? Also was her passport and her police report collected? These are good signs if these were taken. ALso what do you mean by an agent selected No instead of yes when she was asked if she has been denied a visa application? Has she been denied in the past? If so then that may be a problem. 1) Noone registers with DHL. 2) DHL dropbox is where all visas are dropped off. I 3) got an email from ustravel.doc ( which like I stated earlier on, i had already registered for pre-emptively by contacting US embassy email for a username and password about 3-4weeks ago prior to the interview date) that told me passport was ready for pickup. 4) I checked CEAC website which i have provided the link above, which told me passport "ISSUED" 5) Also on the us travel.doc website... there was a part for passport tracking which when you click showed that passport was ready for pickup.I mean if one has not registered for us travel .doc I dont know if you will still get an email? ---As long as CEAC and everything else says passport ready for pickup, if i were in your shoes I would go to the DHL dropbox office at VI to pick up my passport by faith, and start travel plans WIth all this coronavirus, if I were in your shoes I wont waste time on the internet, worrying ...and waiting for an email, when every indication is telling you that passport is ready for pickup. ---Alternatively you can figure out a way to contact the dropbox office at VI, maybe google it..or something, to confirm if your pass port is there. or B) contact or call US embassy ( email, phone) to ask about your passport . --Best of luck. Thats what I would do.. but hey I'm not you.So do whats best for you emonkey: |

As long as CEAC and everything else says passport ready for pickup, if i were in your shoes I would go to the DHL dropbox office to pick up my passport by faith, and start travel plans before a global lockdown. To the best of my knowledge.. i could be wrong.. immigrant visas are sent to the DHL dropbox office in VI. I suggest you check there first with a form of identification. BEst of luck and pls return to let us know how things went. emonkey: |
So i couldnt register on visadoc initially, but prior to my mums appt I had emailed them ahead of time ( the us embassy), and was issued as username and password to use to register. I did this waaaaaay ahead of time before her interview date. So after I checked CEAC and saw that it was issued I went to visadoc and checked and saw that it was ready for pickup. I think I also received an email as well. The same way we have been receiving emails that told us when to schedule our interview date.. mind you this is for IR5. If its been a week since it showed issued on CEAC, if I were you I would just go to the VI DHL office to see if its there. Because in any case all imigrant visas are only dropped off at their VI office. Even though on visadoc, I had picked the DHL office at Oshodi Isolo, the passport wasnt there, as all imigrant visa passport is sent to VI. omowaleola: |
Everyone should be able to register at the usvisadoc site. We also received an email saying our passport was ready for collection. This was for the IR5 category emonkey: |
https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV That's the link to check on her visa status. You have to click on visa status check. It should show you wether she is in Administrative processing, or if it says refused. Ours went from refused.. to issued in about a week. Also you didnt state if she was issued a white paper, and wether it stated that she was being considered for a waiver. If it states that she/he was being considered for a waiver then the typical timeline is a week to 2. Also was he/she's passport collected? If passport was collected thats a good sign. They gave a lot of old people too. My mum is over 60, and she was given. emonkey: |
It was about a week. I was checking the CEAC website for visa status obsessively every day and it kept showing up as "refused". FInally after a week it showed "Issued", I then check the ustravel visa doc website the next day and it showed the passport was ready for pickup. I think I also received an email as well the next day that the passport was ready for pickup. Of course the email didnt say if one had been issued a visa or not. In all have faith it may take a bit longer for your's to come out... maybe 2 weeks even. Hang in there. Keep checking ceac.state.gov for your visa status. omowaleola: |
Like dont you have internet? Ask your mates how they are finding babes.. Keep waiting for your uncle. After he connects you..he will also help teach you how to chyke the babe.. pscheww Chimezie198: |

Thanks a lot guys. The DOS number and the Alien no where on the top most right corner of the VISA. Checked the visa well and saw it. Paid for the green card. Next step is travel to US. n All the best guys. Feel free to ask questions regarding IR5, which was what the category we applied for! Its been a long journey to getting the visa. Stancima: |
Guys pls if anyone can help me with the answer to where we can find our Alien number to pay the $220 green card fee. Thanks [ quote author=zichien post=87194474]Guys I need help. We interviewed for an immigrant visa and got approved. We received a form saying to pay $220 to UCSIS for our green card preferably before entering the US. The thing is we were given a white form after collecting our passports that had A number and DOS no in the upper right corner, but those spaces were left blank. How does one go about paying UCSIS when we dont know our A number or DOS number? Has anyone encountered anything like this? The UCSIS wbesite also states that we are supposed to arrive with a package? We werent given any package?[/quote] |
My mums own was issued on Monday. So good news around for everyone. People can go ahead with their interviews, and just make sure they are able to state their case, and answer all the questions asked confidently. And finally las las all na God. Na God do this one for us. Praises to him. My mum wasnt asked for her national ID card, but she said she heard other people being asked this. So pls guys go with your national ID |

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-court-immigration/us-supreme-court-lets-hardline-trump-immigration-policy-take-effect-idUSKBN1ZQ24N Supreme Court January 27, 2020 / 10:34 AM / Updated 3 hours ago U.S. Supreme Court lets hardline Trump immigration policy take effect Andrew Chung 6 Min Read WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court gave the go-ahead on Monday for one of President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies, allowing his administration to implement a rule denying legal permanent residency to certain immigrants deemed likely to require government assistance in the future. FILE PHOTO: The U.S. Supreme Court building is seen in Washington, U.S., January 21, 2020. REUTERS/Will Dunham/File Photo The justices, on a 5-4 vote, granted the administration’s request to lift a lower court’s injunction that had blocked the so-called public charge policy while litigation over its legality continues. The rule has been criticized by immigrant rights advocates as a “wealth test” that would disproportionately keep out non-white immigrants. The court’s five conservative justices, including Chief Justice John Roberts and two justices appointed by Trump, carried the day. The court’s four liberal justices said they would have denied the administration’s request. The action was announced even as Roberts sat as the presiding officer in Trump’s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate. Lawsuits aiming to block the policy were filed against the administration by the states of New York, Connecticut and Vermont as well as by New York City and several nonprofit organizations. In imposing an injunction blocking it, Manhattan-based U.S. District Judge George Daniels on Oct. 11 called the rule “repugnant to the American Dream” and a “policy of exclusion in search of a justification.” The administration asked the high court to let the rule go into effect even before the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules on Trump’s appeal of the injunction. The 2nd Circuit is considering the matter on an expedited basis, with legal papers to be submitted by Feb. 14 and arguments expected soon afterward. The administration can now enforce the rule nationwide except in Illinois, where a lower court has blocked its implementation. Ken Cuccinelli, acting deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), praised the high court. “It is very clear the U.S. Supreme Court is fed up with these national injunctions by judges who are trying to impose their policy preferences instead of enforcing the law,” Cuccinelli told reporters. GREEN CARDS At issue is which immigrants will be granted legal permanent residency, known as a “green card.” Under Trump’s policy, immigration officers would consider factors such as age, educational level and English proficiency to decide whether an immigrant would likely become a “public charge” who would receive government benefits such as the Medicaid health insurance program for the poor. The administration has said the new rule is necessary to better ensure that immigrants will be self-sufficient. Critics have said the rule would disproportionately bar low-income people from developing countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia from permanent residency. “Limiting legal immigration based on an applicant’s wealth is shameful and entirely un-American,” Democratic Senator Dick Durbin wrote on Twitter. A spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the agency that processes visa applications, said it would “determine the most appropriate method to implement the public charge rule” and would release additional information soon. |

Send them an email. are u sure you have the right case number ? |
Hi sis, Hope you dont mind me asking, but how long did it take from the time your application was documentarily qualified and sent to NVC, till the time you were sent a letter for an interview? Ive heard multitude of answers from 3 weeks to 8 months!. Wondering which is true. Thanks Vindari: |
Thank you so much. But i heard that it can take as long as 8 months to be called for an interview ( from the time NVC sends one's case file to Lagos consulate, after it has been documentarily qualified till the time of interview..this is for IR5 based immigrant application which is current). IS this the new norm? Ajenikoko89: |
First time commenter here. Thanks guys! Ive followed this thread for a while. I applied for my mum under the IR5 category (US citizen applying for parent), and received notification from NVC that her application has necome documentarily qualified. Also received an email stating her application has been forwarded to the Lagos consulate. My question is wether we should go ahead to make an appointment on the us lagos consulate website, or do we wait to receive a notice of an interview date from the consulate? Thank you |
