Just wondering.. is it cheaper to buy in the US and ship to Nigeria vs buying made in Nigeria diapers and wipes? thank you
Debbieeeeeee:

Amazon for water wipes they have great deals on water wipes, formula and diapers too & Sam’s club for their members mark unscented wipes
Shipping depends on state and mode of shipping, heavy items should go by ocean and it takes 12 weeks from other states but from newyork and neighboring states it’s about 6/8 weeks.

Right.. i made a sweeping generalization. Depending on what continent of "the abroad you are in". But on average tropical countries of which Nigeria is one of-- see more sunshine than say a European country like UK where the sunshine can be obscured by clouds. You get the general idea of my gist. Hopefully thats the only error found in my argument.

Who said they don't see sunshine/ the sun in the West, but gloomy clouds?? That's totally false!

Congratulations on the NIW approval! That is a huge deal and the toughest hurdle to cross. If you did not do concurrent filing, why not just wait till you finish the green card process and then apply for the PhD. You are almost at the end of your journey. You can defer the PHD. In my opinion its best to avoid overexplanation, and complicating matters. Keep things simply and wait till you get your green card, then can pursue 10 different phDs if needed.
JohnPhysics:
Greetings,

I'd appreciate your insights on the following matter:

If someone has already received approval for their National Interest Waiver (NIW), would it be deemed inappropriate or classified as visa fraud if that individual pursues a Ph.D. in the USA and applies for a student visa? It's worth noting that, during the NIW petition, the person initially submitted a Ph.D. as part of his exhibit; but now wishes to pursue a Ph.D. in a related yet distinct field.

Him and his family will still undergo consular processing but he his afraid that going ahead with this plan may cause some complication. Please your sincere opinion/advise is needed.

Thanks

I mean technically she visited the US with the visa and returned... and then went again the second time. IMO she can still give it a shot but will need to be major prepared with invoices, receipts, letter of zero balance, letters etc, and prepared to defend why she decided to return a second time to give birth. If her F1 visa application is solid eg you are offered an MBA to say a prestigious school that oyibo no fit go with scholarship sef, and have enough funds to back it up in your account, and have a logical conversation about how this degree impacts your career choice then its possible. Nothing is impossible. Have faith.
MamaOO:

E go hard. You were asked point blank and you lied. Don’t take yet USC child to your interview to avoid questioning about why you’re not applying for the F2 visa for him/her. Pray you don’t get asked about what you did during your previous trips to the US and if they do, don’t lie. You’re gonna be digging a hole that will be impossible to get out of.

Has there been any changes in your financial status or supporting documents since the last time you went? What was the quoted reason for the refusal? Where there any major differences between your application this time vs last time ? do you think you subconsciously came across as wanting to JAPA with your kids? Maybe try a tourist visa to another country in the interim, and give the US application a break for a year or so. Best of luck.

Hi everyone,
Please I need help!!!
I was refused visa twice . Since I gave birth to my second child in 2017 haven’t gone for a visa application so I went in for interview on September I was refused. I had all my receipts then I got a date for today which I went for as well and I was refused again. I had my children in 2016 and 2017 respectively. I sent letter of intent and I also said it at the POE so I wasn’t hiding. I paid all my bills. It’s just that my kids really wanted to visit the USA. They haven’t gone since they were born. Please how can I go about this. Should I get an immigration lawyer and please does anyone know a very good one
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by zichien: 10:05pm On Nov 16, 2023
I don't know if this has been answered but I think getting an F1 visa should be fine because
1) you used the visas as intended
2) don't have a record of overstaying

So as long as your F1 application is solid, i.e You apply to a school or program that is logical and in line with your area of expertise, have enough proof of funds, and enough ties to your home country , then you should be fine. Best of luck !
foladetutu:
Hello everyone. The summary of my question is, Is it possible to get an F1 Visa (Study Visa) after giving birth in the US.

This is my timeline

-Oct 2022- B1/B2 Visa approved. Although one of the questions asked by the VO was if i intend to seek medical or surgical treatment in the US & i answered NO
-Oct 2022- I travelled for 3 weeks to the US & returned to Nigeria
-Jan 2023- I travelled back to have my baby. (i never sent a change of intent email). but i stated my purpose of childbirth at POE. the officer even advised me to make sure i get all my receipt & zero balance statements. I came back in May

Please do you guys think i have a chance of getting my f1 visa approved with the above explanation.

PS: i intend to go with my 2 kids. the older one was born in nigeria so i'm applying for f2 visa for him as well.

Thank you

Travel / Re: The Japa After The Japa by zichien: 8:08pm On Nov 16, 2023
It is multifactorial. Generally the older you are at the time of "japa", the harder it is to adjust.
1) It can be socially isolating. At work you have to adjust to the accents, and cant even laugh anyhow, and will just be tensed up... you finish work and come home and wont see anyone to talk t.. you go to church the same thing. Unless you find a Nigerian church.
2) The weather: It can be cold, and annoying, and will make you want to stay in doors and not come out
3) Lack of sunlight. Honestly there is something about seeing the sun that gives one joy. If youve lived in a country like Nigeria with beautiful weather, and correct sunlight, and you are now transported to a place with gloomy depressing weather, ah your brain sef will be doing some how
4) Bills. You've migrated with all the expectations. Your people sent you forth at the airport. They told you job full everywhere, money is everywhere. You work .. and by work I mean you put in those long hard hours ..and are paid your first pay check and see how much is deducted as tax. and how much finally ends up in your account. In Nigeria you are used to surviving on your paycheck + bribe+ plus urgent 1k. You can owe Iya Basira, and owe your landlord, and sort electricity. Now here you are surviving on paycheck alone which is "Salary-(taxes-monthly rent-monthly phone bill-monthly gas/water bill-monthly deduction to send home-monthly deduction for car insurance). What is left off is then saved. And then there is the pressure because you are seeing the ones that are carrying" you know what" flaunting on instagram, and making you look like an idiot, and lazy... and you begin to wonder wether it is not the same Japa,or God that you are serving.
5) When you were in Nigeria, you had an excuse for not succeeding. You could blame Jonathan, Or Buhari, or Tinubu or ipob. Now you are here, and have arrived... and typical oyibo expects one to take accountability for their actions. The buck stops on you. No one to blame for your lack of progress but yourself.. so some folks fall into depression because a sheep in Nigeria is still a sheep in Canada, Uk etc. Someone that used an agent to sort through university, used an agent to find them a school abroad, an agent to apply for their visa, has now come to a setting where you have to DIY. No agent will tell you how to apply for that extra certificate that will help you advance your career, no agent will tell you how to create a strategic long term plan such that in 10years you will be at the top of your career, no agent will tell you what classes to choose to develop the skill sets that are highly sought after. So someone who has always lacked the self efficacy, and accountability, someone who doesnt know how to take ownership, and blames others eg " my mother is a witch", "my village people did me" " they sent me poison"... will struggle badly, and can fall into depression.

This isnt all... but just a few random thoughts

-
FinidiGeorge:

Hmmmm... It's serious o.. With all the beauty of that place, you wonder how possible it is for the words suffering and depression to come out of people's mouth. I think it is that beauty like paradise which intoxicates and hypnotize people who haven't traveled before.

Me sef never travel before too, but some things I dey hear and see for daddy Freeze youtube channel these days dey scary. Also, I talked with a random woman I followed on Instagram who I followed and her picture post was that the kind enjoyment wey people think she dey enjoy for abroad, make God give dem, and she continued in writing that where she dey dey lonely depressing and stressful, that she knows people personally that couldn't cope and landed in psychiatry home.

She finally said that if she's better informed, she wouldn't have come. And I teased her why she no come back, she say I'm free to come explore the world cheesy grin. Na vigilante she dey do as I see am.
However, the environment, her pics and kids etc. Are very very posh and clean, even the food. But this brings the confusion again, how's it that people complain about depression and stress yet fill our eyes with sumptuous tempting pictures of luxury.

This issue and situation is worth a case study and research on its own, I tire with jàre 😫😔

Meanwhile, you never send me that reading o.

Travel / Re: Canada Conference Visa by zichien: 7:36pm On Nov 16, 2023
Nothing personal just an advice. From my brief 2min google search seems Vancouver international airport is the closest international airport, and so will most likely be your port of entry to Canada. ( But this all depends on your airline). Then you can either get a domestic flight from Vancouver to Nainamo, or take a bus, ferry or rent a car. Here is a link to the island. https://tourismnanaimo.com/how-to-get-here/
If your "conference" is a 1 day conference then would recommend at least 5-7 days to enjoy the Island, and Vancouver. As others have suggested make sure you know the name of the "conference" and have proof to show that you work in that field, have as much info at your finger tips so you can sound confident at the POE. ... and not stammer when questioned at the POE.
Best of luck

If you read and understand what I asked it’s very simple, have made my research already and I wanted to confirm to be 100 percent sure but I can see people replying are not even giving me the question I asked, instead his asking me if my visa is genuine lol, will the embassy issue and stamp me a fake visa in the first place because I submitted and pick up my passport myself, some people here will sha want to talk like say na dem wise pass. Anyway I get your information and point. Thank you[/quote]

I agree. The post get as e be. Someone wey get enough sense to get canada visa for conference attendance--suppose get enough sense to use google to figure out the closest international airport to wey him dey supposedly go him one day conference. Walahi. No wonder these agents dey cash out! Simple information wey less than 5 mins you go find am for google.. people go dey pay agent money..chai.
justwise:

One day conference ? Make sure that the agent tells you all the information he put in your visa application form else you are likely to be deported at the Poe.

From your post it’s obvious that you know not much about that conference or have an idea what the agent did.

Its a fallacy that high blood pressure has symptoms. Most people think " oh i have headache" "oh i have malaria". High blood pressure has no symptoms. By the time you start to have symptoms from your high blood pressure its usually hypertensive emergency or urgency. Yes our forefathers didnt have a lot of this, but they died early, lived in the suburbs, walked everywhere, drank palm wine, ate mostly healthy food, did not use maggi to cook, slept very well, did not wake up at 4am to get to work, spend 4 hours in traffic, or jump bus to get to work, get stuck in traffic for 4 hours, return home to noisy generator sounds, and polluted air...which all contribute to the modern stressors of life. So if you want to be as healthy as your forefathers, then live like them. We cant eat our cake and have it. Either we agree that we have been westernized, and have adopted bad eating, and lifestyle and be ready to use western medications to treat ourselves. When your pi

When your kitchen pipe gets clogged and your plumber comes to see it.. if he comes and tells you well you put a big thigh bone down and that is what caused it.. but does not relieve the blockage.. next time will you call him again?
In as much as we work on prevention when someone has high BP first things are weight loss, and dietary management. How many people can confidently loose 10% of their body weight? How many people can confidently cut out salt from their diet entirely ( which means no maggi, no added salt, no eating at mama put or buying gala). The answer is zero. So why we wait for you to fix your lifestyle, to prevent further damage we start blood pressure medications. have you noticed how the rate of kidney disease, young people dying of stroke is increasing? It is because many have lived decades with uncontrolled high blood pressure which is wrecking havoc on their internal plumbing for many many years till boom..their kidneys are shot. So do you self a favor and either loose weight, start to avoid alcohol, start to exercise and eat well or if you know you love the good things of life then start a medication for your blood pressure.
yemmit90:
What most of us don't know is that, people with peace of mind and zero worries hardly have HBP.

Besides, Nigeria Doctors are too quick to place their patients on BP medication without finding out what actually cause it. Alot of factors can elevate your BP, most BP are temporal but once you ignorantly start taking BP drugs, you may unable to come out of it. Also, there are many people whose BP reading are well above traditional 120/80 but don't have HBP especially hereditary ones. Age can also affect our BP, a BP reading of 140/100 is not too high for anyone above 60 years.

They no longer require vaccine status for travel to the US. If I tell you the website is lying does that mean you’ll believe the word of an anonymous stranger on a website over something easily verifiable by googling and finding the answer yourself straight from the horses mouth i.e us government website ??

During your drinking days? How much alcohol drinks were you drinking in a day ? And did you drink every single day? Did you ever notice a yellowing of your eye or skin? Did you ever get a liver test done during your hospitalization for a GI bleed? Have you ever noticed a distension of your abdomen? Also prior to your bleeding were you taking any pain medicines eg meds for headache or joint pain or aches that may have contained Nsaids like ibuprofen or naproxen ? Also may want to get an abdominal ultrasound scan of your liver to be sure that its all good

kayo80:

The Endoscopy was for my Ulcer... I've always had ulcer, and last year April, the ulcer got critical and led to upper GI bleeding/internal bleeding. I got better after about three weeks (one week out of that three weeks, I didn't eat anything and also didn't drink water, I just lived on drips)... I was treated with Omeprazole and Tranexamic acid. It took me like 2 weeks to stop bleeding.... Before I healed I was vomiting blood and pooping clots of blood (black blood).

So, that was the end of that chapter... I left the hospital, changed my diet, and also stopped drinking. Fast forwarded to Last month, I started feeling like something was stuck in my throat, and some other symptoms which I Googled and discovered is GERD... It's actually closely related to the ulcer I've been having. So, that's what landed me on this page.

After going through this thread, I started taking Omeprazole two weeks ago... One a day. From the very first day, I started feeling better. But the thing is, I guess the drug has some side effects, cos for 2-3 hours of the day, I would feel weak and nauseated... But the rest of the day, I would be fine. So, after 9 days of taking it, I stopped, and just started really taking serious what I eat. Some days are good, but some times if I don't eat on time, I feel really bad. So, I went to read the instruction paper that came with the Omeprazole I bought and it says I have to take it for at least 4 weeks to get rid of GERD. So, I shouldn't have stopped. I want to go back to taking it starting tomorrow morning

I agree with the author above. I would like to understand why you havent been to DHL to at least find out the status of your passport yourself? I say this because my relative went for her visa interview just after the ban, had her waiver approved, then it showed issued on the CEAC status update. Same day I saw the status change on CEAC, I sent her straight to DHL office to check if it was approved, she went there and saw that her passport was stamped. With that I was able to book a flight for her early march, and she is currently here with us. Luck was on our side. When i saw the numbers rising I knew the borders would close, and so I sucessfully rescheduled her flight to an earlier date, so she could leave Nigeria. The reason I decided to post is that a few others are in your shoes. Their CEAC status shows issued, but they decided to wait, and didnt want to go to DHL to check for themselves, till they were 100% sure. In life sometimes one has to take chances, think several steps ahead. Though I understand that folks may live outside Lagos, and so making that trip to DHL Lagos Island may be an added step... Hopefully it all works out for everyone still waiting to collect their passport.

You are right o! The expectations on our naija men can be daunting! I get your point now, and I can imagine how it can drive a man to frustration is he has spent a large chunk of money taking care of a lady, and all her extended family only for her to travel abroad and decide that he isnt good enough for her anymore. These days it works both ways too. The level of hunger in naija has caused a lot of men to look at women abroad as cash cows and their way out of poverty. It is well sha. May God grant us wisdom and discerning spirit to tell right from wrong.

EVILFOREST:

U have a Point though.
Most OYIBO LADIES have Jobs here.
Sometimes it may take you 2weeks to see your wife in the US because of WORK. And they contribute immensely to the Family.
There's Nothing like In-Law in the US.
U stay married only to your partner.
No one trespasses.

But, MOST of our Ladies based in Nigeria are Jobless, not their Fault though, But some are not economically sound upstairs.
Yet they expect so much from you.
U sponsor your entire wedding yourself as a man.
You pay bills in Nigeria.
You settle In Laws.
You train your Brother In-Laws and Sister In Laws
You still get insulted by a Jobless Lady.
Some also take your MONEY to sow seeds to Fake pastors without your Notice.
Yet you leave the US to visit Nigeria and MARRY her.
She relocates and Chases you out of the HOUSE.
HaBa....!!!!
Between these 2 LADIES who will you PamPer...

Nigerian men also need to learn how to treat their wives better as well. I can assure you that a Naija man married to a white lady will not sit down and wait for his wive to go to work, come, go grocery shopping, come back make meals, clean house etc. He will chip in and help out at home, and will pamper his oyibo/foreign wife... but when he's married to naija lady thats not the case. He balances and acts like a God in his home.

EVILFOREST:

What you said, is the REALITY, even in the US.
U travel down to your community and pick a Lady of your choice, only for her to be turned into a DRAGON few minutes after arrival in the US, all because of FREEDOM.
Most NIGERIAN LADIES who suddenly become Emergency NURSES by virtue of assistance from their diaspora based Husbands suddenly develop EGO.... and can decimate their husbands, rendering them homeless.

IF U get a GOOD WIFE abroad, just keep going for special thanksgiving.
My Brothers and Uncles have suffered in their Hands.
We no Longer recommend NIGERIAN LADIES to my people in diaspora.
MEN should go out and choose their heart throbs themselves, from any continent of their choice.

It's very disheartening that a Man will travel several hours back to AFRICA to get a wife, only for him to Land a terrible package..

BEST ADVICE FOR THE CONFUSED MEN.
Please, Ensure you MARRY the LADY that Loves you more than you Love her.
This is where the ADVANTAGE lies.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. I will call their customer care service again. I called them this morning after wasting my credit the agent on the line said his computer wasnt working and he couldnt help me.

PhantomXcess:

You'd have to call their customer service and tell them the state and city you're travelling to so they can confirm if they have partner telecoms company there. If you have already traveled and can't find service, it probably means they don't have a telecoms partner in the area, city or state that you're in. The way roaming work is: Your service provider partners with another service provider in a foreign country in certain areas of coverage, so when you travel, your phone automatically gets registered on that partner network and you can make calls or use data services. Your service provider eventually bills you way higher than when in your country and they settle with their partners. If you're already there and the sim doesn't work, you can have someone in Nigeria help you call their customer service on your behalf and find out if they have a partner network providers there. But if you need the sim for maybe banking services, best to use online or card services.

Seems she may have been placed in administrative processing, if she was asked to get some documents after her visa interview. If theyve received the documents, I think they handle cases on a first come first serve bases. And now with this Coro thing who knows if they are still going to work or working remotely. Looks like it may be a while before you hear from them...maybe a month or two?It is well. All hope is not lost. Regarding her inadvertently stating that she has never been denied a visa, I dont know if now that her case is in administrative processing and they are doing thorough vetting, if that may be used against her. I know its such a sad situation! Luckily I saw the signs and was able to move our flight forward to last week. Now praying for health and to be safe against this coronavirus. At the time we took a chance cos cases werent that much in Naija, so it seemed stupid to be flying down to US. Even went ahead to pay for green card sef before living. On the plus side getting into US ( border and custom) was relatively stressfree, infact line was longer for Americans than for others.. which is not typically the case. Hopefully all will die down and everyone would be able to get in before May. But to be proactive I would suggest sending an email to the US embassy, and the consulate in Lagos, asking what would happen if through no fault of your's youre not able to travel before the visa expires due to lock down.
-if I were in your shoes that's what I would do... though I thought the visas are usually issued for 6months? so wondering why you guys waited this long though before making travel plans. Most people travel within a month of getting their visa

sirgigs:
Same challenge here. My in laws are 60+ and their Visas expires by May 4th.

We are just confused on what to do next

You didnt tell us what category of visa she applied for. Also did she receive a white paper stating that she is being considered for a waiver? Or did she receive a blue paper? Also was her passport and her police report collected? These are good signs if these were taken. ALso what do you mean by an agent selected No instead of yes when she was asked if she has been denied a visa application? Has she been denied in the past? If so then that may be a problem.

Thanks so much for this. I will keep my fingers closed and wait. Her passport and that of his family members were not collected on the da of their interview. The agent that helped her filled the Immigrant visa form selected NO instead of YES in the column were she was asked if she has ever been deneied Visa application before. I just pray and wish it comes out good.
