Between COMPTIA and AWS (Amazon Web Services) which is more prestigious? The pros and cons seems to be subject to individual inclination or relevance of the course of interest.

Since I got into IT about 17 years ago, CompTIA A+ used to be the basic certification for those wanting to venture into hardware. CompTIA also has a vendor neutral project management course called 'Project +' unlike P2P.

If security is your focus, then CompTIA Security+ and CysA+ (cyber security analyst) would be your best bet.

AWS on the other hand seems to be more on the AI aspect of IT. It's products supports services like we hosting for many organizations.

There some similarities between AWS and CompTIA. The difference in my opinion is in the demand for what by organizations and the interest of the individual.

@OP, should you decide to press charges, there are some things you need to take note of;
1. Preserve the clothes you wore including the beddings he violated you upon.
-DON'T WASH OR BURN THEM!
-DON'T THROW AWAY OR BREAK THE BOTTLE OF WINE AND THE GLASSES YOU USED TO DRINK IT WITH
2. If you have taken your bath already(leading to the loss of vital dna evidence), visit the gender unit of a hospital (preferably government-owned) so you could be examined and vital evidence (DNA, photographs,)extracted and preserved.
3. They'll advice you or on your behalf, contact the police for you.
4. The handles or contacts of NGOs that deal with such cases are everywhere. I'll recommend FIDA, Human rights commission and such like.
If you REALLY want to nail him...these are the first steps to take and they are crucial to the case. It's high time we started doing things the right way.

If you want to use love to cover this 'multitude of sins', it's up to you.
But, this is a clear criminal case. Nothing justifies it.

I'm sorry for what you've gone through. Please, don't kill yourself. He's not worth it biko

Crime / 7 Reasons Forensic Science Should Concern You-agentzico by zikclassiq(m): 2:31am On May 02, 2017
[Excerpts from the original article]
You may ask, why should I bother about forensics? What has forensic science got to do with me? It has nothing to do with me personally, so why should forensic science concern me? Can it put food on my table? Does it add anything to my name? That is the essence of this article. So let's reason together and see why forensics should concern you.

1. Proving your innocence
Have you been wrongly accused of a crime or misconduct? If not you, what about someone you know? It is a painful thing to be accused of something you did not commit. It becomes worse when no one believes you and you have extremely limited options to prove your innocence. The situation deteriorates the more when you or someone you know or care about is faced with imprisonment.
Statistical report in Nigeria showed that as at 2015, 72.52% of the overall prison inmates have not yet been sentenced. For how long will they remain in jail? What can be done to expedite action on their cases? Suppose some of them are released due to lack of evidence against them, what compensation awaits them for the time wasted in jail? How many people does the government compensate for time spent in jail without trial and later released for lack of evidence against them? What of those wrongly accused, convicted and have served the full term –and they were innocent?

2. Prison for the guilty
Up till now, crime experts do not believe there is no such thing as ‘perfect crime’. It is impossible to trace the perpetrators of a perfect crime –even if they are suspects! No evidence can be linked to the criminals involved in a perfect crime and they walk…heads up at the end.
Development in Forensic science technologies has shown that it is virtually impossible to escape justice no matter how long it takes. It is the reason cases that have been closed (cold cases) due to lack of evidence are reopened and reexamined for forensic evidence with emerging scientific findings and the truth, unearthed. Many stories of reopened cold cases abound all over the world. A typical example of such was the case of a man who sexually assaulted 17-year old girl and stabbed her 29 times. He was caught and convicted 32 years later after his blood matched the DNA swab from the victim’s clothing.

3. Prevents future crimes against you and others
Prevention they say is better than cure. It is easier to prevent a catastrophe than trying to its consequence. Which is better? To apprehend a potential serial killer or to bring back to life the murder victim? To open up that you have been sexually assaulted by someone you know or to sympathize later with other victims? To keep vigilance against counterfeiting or to live with consequences of fake drugs? There are forensic techniques that can be applied to prevent the crimes like car hijacking, rape and smuggling of illegal drugs from happening. This is where forensic intelligence comes in to play. Forensic intelligence is a more holistic approach to crime that includes crime prevention, detection and investigation. Thus, it is a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to crime management.

The use of Geographic Information System (GIS) in crime analysis is one good example. It has helped them to know which crimes are prevalent at certain times of the year, crime hotspots and behavioral patterns of certain type of criminals.Wouldn’t you like to live in a country where the law enforcement agencies are proactive and vigilant enough to predict the next criminal move or the next terrorist attack and take the appropriate steps to avert those attacks? Would you not feel safer knowing that there are experts and security officers working together to ensure your safety and that of your family? Forensics can make your community a safer place for you to live in.
A stitch in time saves nine.

4. Provides career and Job opportunities for you
Are there job opportunities if you decide to become a forensic scientist? Can you pursue forensics as a career? Yes! Forensics covers many sub fields and likewise the job variations.
There is no aspect of forensics that is irrelevant. Forensics is simply applying any field of study whether it is in science, arts or social science to criminal or civil matters. Thus if you have a BSc in Linguistics, going for an MSc in Forensic Science would suffice to call you a forensic scientist or a forensic Linguist! A PhD in forensic science can clinch you the juicy positions in a crime lab or forensic institution. Places where forensic scientists have been found to be relevant are both privately and government owned crime labs that deal with illegal drugs, analysis that cover DNA, fingerprinting, digital forensics, forensic toxicology and footwear impressions among others. These are highly specialized skills that require specialized training.

Government agencies like immigration, customs, drug law enforcement, police and even the military require forensic scientists to run their crime labs and train their personnel. Insurance companies also employ forensic scientist to help in verifying insurance claims. Intelligence agencies such as the State Secret Service and National Intelligence also need forensic experts to gather data from relevant sources, study trends and patterns of matters threaten national security. As a forensic scientist, you can render expertise to help in humanitarian services such as in disaster management, war and conflict resolution, search and recovery of missing person, dead or alive (as done by the International Committee of the Red Cross) and emergency response systems.

5. Makes you self-employed as a forensic consultant.
You may not like to work for the government or any private forensic firm. Besides being an expert in your field, you have the urge and skill to become an entrepreneur? Why not set up private practice and become a forensic consultant? Yes you can. In fact, some prosecutors and defense lawyers prefer to consult with independent forensic practitioners than with government-employed forensic experts. Why? They believe private forensic consultants would be less biased and prone to be more objective than those under the employ of the government.
You should know your onions well before you set up private practice. Or else, discover the talented ones in different specialties and bring them under one ‘roof’. You’ve got yourself a team. A forensic team!
Whatever the case, objectivity and being unbiased in the counsel or service you render as forensic consultant is what builds your credibility, integrity and ultimate success in the business as a forensic consultant. Wish you success!

6. Gives you relevance to your society
Every field of study in academics is important. You would agree that among the first category of persons to appear at a murder crime scene or mass disaster scene like airplane crash site are the forensic experts. The gory scene of scattered human body parts and blood spatter and the eagerness of the authorities to unravel the mystery behind incident make the forensic experts relevant for the situation. Also, because accountants, economists, lawyers, engineers, government officials are not trained for search, recovery and analysis and interpretation of evidence, they are not the first ports of call. It is the forensic experts.

7. Offers opportunity to serve humanity
Forensic science provides the skills needed for humanitarian causes. The beauty of forensic science is that no matter your area of specialty, there is a unique role for everyone. You do not have to be medical doctor or a lawyer to be in care of people’s lives. No.
According to the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross), “When people die during wars or disasters, or while migrating, their bodies must be handled respectfully and with dignity; and the remains of unknown individuals must be searched for, recovered and identified. Humanitarian work has come to include these tasks, for which forensic science offers matchless tools and expertise”.
Mass disasters, wars, armed conflicts and immigration related incidents are issues that make applying your forensic skills worth it. You need to be in the shoes of people in IDP camps some of which their loved ones are missing due to wars or disasters. Wives not finding husbands, husbands not finding wives and parents searching for their missing children are a common thing. And many times, families don’t know whether their relatives are alive or not. In cases where dead bodies are involved which are sometimes unrecognizable, special skill is required for searching, recovery, identification and documentation.

Crime / Revenge And Justice: Is There Really A Difference? by zikclassiq(m): 10:28pm On Feb 17, 2016
I was making a list of trauma suffered by victims of certain crimes. Those bitter experiences they undergo after becoming  the objects of heinous crimes. Then it suddenly down on me that these two words: Justice and Revenge keep coming up on crimes such as rape, human trafficking and domestic abuse, forgery, adulteration and counterfeiting.

Every 'normal' human being would desire revenge or seek justice for crimes committed against themselves or their loved ones.

Which mother wouldn't want the bastards who gang raped her daughter to be brought to justice? Or is it revenge?

That moment when you find out that someone has been selling counterfeits of your products and services...and making lots of profits from it. The entertainment artists and marketers would know this better. Would you rather forgive them or require that justice be carried out? Is that revenge or Justice?

Does emotions have a role to play in either of the two? Or is one a consequence of the other...like the anger you felt at being defrauded of your hard earned money 419ners. And you feel used, foolish and angry.  You will want Justice of course -- or is it revenge?

Popular Nigerian musician, Tuface when referring to music pirates and what should be done to them said... 'They are criminals, just like the thieves we catch on the streets.' What happens to a thief when he is caught?
Revenge or Justice?

Is there even a difference at all?

Crime / He Raped And Murdered Two Girls But Now Helps The Blind by zikclassiq(m): 8:22am On Oct 30, 2015
His name is Collin Pitchfork, a local baker. He raped and killed two teenage girls.

THE CRIMES
15-year-old Lynda Mann left her home to visit a  friend. She never returned. She was found strangled  the next day along a deserted footpath in the Leicestershire village of Narborough, England. The date was November 22, 1983.

About three years later, July 1986, Dawn Ashworth, from nearby Enderby, was found in almost similar circumstances in a wooded area, less than a mile from where Lynda was murdered. Dawn had taken a shortcut home from school instead of her usual route when she got attacked by her assailant who raped and killed her. She was only 15 years old.

FORENSIC INVESTIGATION
In both cases, semen was recovered from the body of the victims. Forensic DNA analyses showed that both girls were attacked by the same person. Preferential extraction method to separate sperm from vaginal cells was used – without which it would have been difficult to use DNA in rape cases.

The semen was found to belong to a person with type A blood group and an enzyme profile, which matched 10 per cent of the adult male population.

A suspect,17-year-old Richard Buckland had been arrested initially who denied involvement to the murders. DNA profiling was used to compare the suspect's DNA and semen found at the crime scene. There was no match! The police had to set 17-year-old Richard free. That was the first time in the world, an accused person was exonerated using  DNA evidence!

The police then undertook to the screening of 5000 males in three surrounding villages for DNA samples from blood and saliva.  DNA profiling was carried out on the 10 percent who had the same blood group as the killer.

The murderer nearly escaped by asking his friend to use his own blood and sign for it as Colin Pitchfork. His friend had even learnt how to forge Colin's signature and perfected his knowledge of Colin's family history. None would have known had he not bragged to his friends in a pub about it.

Someone informed the police and Colin was arrested. His DNA  matched the semen of the two murders. He was tried, convicted  and sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in jail to life imprisonment in 1988. This means he can be eligible for release after serving 30 years in prison.

Colin Pitchfork, became the first  criminal in the world to be convicted of murder based on DNA evidence, at 27.

LATEST DEVELOPMENT
After serving just 20 years of the minimum 30, his sentence was reduced by a judge in 2009 to 28 years thus making him eligible for release in 2016. The judge also added that 'He cannot be released unless and until the safety of the public is assured.'

Pitchfork now has an Open University degree in Beethoven music which he obtained while in prison.

He also created a  beautiful piece of art work: sculpture of a miniature choir and orchestra of  Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. He has earned £600  from this piece of art which has been  displayed anonymously in the British Royal Festival Hall gallery until the Press released it. He donated £300 to charity.

MIXED REACTIONS
The  chief executive of the  Trust promoting his artwork said: 'It's not relevant to us what the person's offence is. What's relevant to us is how good the art is.'

A former cabinet minister and ex-prisoner who spent 18months in jail for perjury and used that time to study new testament Greek  said "Pitchfork is rebuilding his life behind bars through rehabilitation, including, in his case, artistic endeavour. Society should be pleased by that rather than condemning him or trying to stop him from benefiting from the proceeds'.

Lynda Mann's mother, Kath, said paying her daughter's 'evil, wicked and cruel' killer for his work showed a 'lack of conscience'.. She went further to add that 'For a man who did that to be rewarded for making paperwork art - good or bad - is not right!
This man is supposed to be in prison as a punishment for what he did. He raped and killed two 15-year-old girls...and we should never forget that'.

Yes. Let's not forget that. This is the guy that raped and murdered two 15-year-old school girls. Bribed a friend to present DNA evidence in his place. The court learnt that after murdering Dawn Ashworth, he "callously" returned home to bake a cake( probably to celebrate his conquest).

The judge that reduced his minimum sentence to 28 years said of him that he (Colin Pitchfork) "...has educated himself up to the degree level, is now an expert at the transcription of printed music into Braille thereby using the opportunities he has taken to educate himself in prison to the benefit of others. He hopes to one day help the blind. This intensely specialised skill and his work is now used throughout this England and internationally with the support of the RNIB"

This evidence was presented as proof of the development of his character whilst incarcerated' by his legal team who stated that he was no longer a threat.

Questions
Are we to take Pitchfork's character transformation for genuine repentance?
Does the good done by cruel persons make them good?
Should society accept the reintroduction of such persons back after showing concrete steps to character change?
Are we championing the criminals and criminality by allowing such persons to positively impact on the society that they have  so gravely hurt and left indelible marks on them?
How do we know that a criminal most especially a murderer and rapist has been completely rehabilitated?
Is it ours to judge a once evil person that wants to do good?

Lynda and Dawn would have been in their 40s now...maybe with young daughters of their own.

Bringing Music to life doesn't bring Lyn and Dawn back to life....Colin!

Crime / Would Knowledge Of Maximum Prison Sentence Deter The Would-be Rapist? by zikclassiq(m): 10:41pm On Oct 23, 2015
Every day rape is committed. The newspapers, radios and TVs  report cases daily. The internet is full of rape incidents. Headlines with stories such as Boko haram rape hundreds of female captives and 5 men gang raping 15-year old for two weeks (this is barbaric)  seems to be "common" news.

These days, we hear more disturbing headlines such as man allegedly rapes 13-year old boy, HIV positve Father raping his two daughters in India to a 41-year old man caught defiling 3-year old girl.

In Nigeria, sexual offenses act 2013 stipulates life imprisonment for rape without parole. Isn't that strong enough to make somebody with intention to commit rape think again?

Or is it that they are ignorant of the punishment? How can  someone throw caution to the wind and go ahead to carry out this crime fully knowing the consequences of their actions? Is life imprisonment not  punishment enough to discourage rape?

If  such people know that the punishment for rape is imprisonment for life, will they still go ahead with the act?

If more attention were given to publicity of stipulated punishments for rape, will it help to discourage the would-be rapist?
Maybe that is the solution...at least part of it. What do you think?

Crime / When A Mother Made Her Son Witness To Something 18years Before He Was Born! by zikclassiq(m): 12:25pm On Oct 22, 2015
The unborn witness
How can your son be a signatory witness to a property document 18 years before he was born?

My first day in court (as a mere observer of court proceedings) was not without its intrigues. This day will remain as one of those days I will live to remember.

The object of this post is based on one of two cases that interests me the most.

FACT IN ISSUE
A woman filed for divorce accusing her husband of infidelity and had caught him in the act on several occasions. She even went as far as "flushing the womb" of her housemaid who supposedly took in for her husband.

She claims her husband does not provide for their upkeep so the whole responsibility fell on her.

Furthermore, he batters her severally of which she presented photo evidence to that effect.

They have been married since 1995,  have three male children at ages 19, 17 and 15 respectively.

FACT RELEVANTLY IRRELEVANT TO THE FACT IN ISSUE

During the course of proceedings, counsel to the husband pointed out a flaw in one of the documents tendered as exhibits. It was a document attesting to ownership of a plot of land by the woman given to her by her father in 1979. The woman had earlier told the court that they had built on the plot which serves as their residence.

The problem is, the document was signed by both her and  father in the year of our Lord, 1979 with her son as witness whom she gave birth to in 1997! (Oops!)

Your father gave you a land in 1979 with supporting documents in your name. The witness to the agreement was your son who signed on the documents as witness in 1979 but was born in 1997. How is that possible?

You can only imagine the expression on the woman's face as she stood in the witness box...The word 'shame' doesn't touch it.
"Objection my lord!" shouted her counsel.

To me, I wondered what was the lawyer objecting to? Was it to save face or was it to show solidarity to her client...like....I'm here with you no matter the humiliation. Because, that woman really felt lonely in that box for some few seconds.

After swearing before the judge and declaring that you will say nothing and nothing but the truth while holding the Holy Bible/Qur'an in your hand and hitting it like twice on your head?

The thing is, this fact(of the woman's son being a witness years before he was born) was not relevant to the fact in issue(the divorce case). The judge stated it too. But the husband's lawyer wanted to make a point...this woman is not to be trusted. And that was a real punch! I admire him.

But the woman's lawyer should have spotted this from the beginning. What was she doing? She could have avoided this great embarrassment to both her and her client. I was embarrassed too. Those of us in the gallery observing the scenario felt embarrassed as well though it was no concern of us.

LESSON
Brilliant lawyers like to look for loopholes to exploit and discredit evidence. So as an expert or intending witness, you must ensure you do your homework well.
Secondly, lying is not good...especially when standing in a witness box before a judge. It feels lonely...

How can your son be a signatory witness to a property document 18 years before he was born?
Wow!

Crime / Using Forensic Science To Analyse And Solve Nigerian Crimes by zikclassiq(m): 12:07am On Oct 15, 2015
Watching crime solving movies like the various CSI series, Criminal Minds, Law and Order, The Mentalist...  Forensic Files really caught mine keen attention.

With due regards to others, Forensic Files seems to be the only series that based its production on actual cases using both fictional and real characters to project the effectiveness of forensic science in solving crimes.

The idea behind producing Forensic Files was to interview the principals or related parties of a criminal case that forensic science was used or helped to solve. The documentary-styled movie featured interviews from  Forensic experts involved in the case, victims( still alive to tell the story) and their relations, police officers, criminal investigators and witnesses.

After watching an episode, you can't help having this feeling that forensics is the real hero of this case.

This got me thinking.., why not start something like Forensic Files?..at least the Nigerian version. Something real that will show Nigerians the benefits of embracing forensics. Something like, picking up a common crime or an old  case that has been dropped possibly for lack of clues or enough evidence to prosecute. Analyze this case using forensic intelligence and techniques and see what we got. The authorities might just benefit from the ideas that could be generated.  Who knows? A cold case can suddenly become red hot overnight!

This cannot be achieved alone. Nah! There are many sharp witted gurus out there with forensic inclination or even forensic experts in this country that we don't know of. If you are one of such and are interested in this project... Hit the contact me page to reach out or use the comment box below to drop your ideas.

Most Nigerians don't know that a field called forensic science exists. Even if they do, they might not know it as forensics. The closest some can get to understand your explanation on forensics is when you mention the almighty DNA! .."okay..so that's what you mean abi? That thing they use to do to check whether a man is the actual father of a child?".

Nigeria is just beginning to embrace the forensic idea. Its a slow process but understandably so. We are in dire need of fully well equipped Forensic laboratories with adequately trained experts. Rome wasn't built in a day, so the saying goes. But we need to start from somewhere. Government will and commitment is key to realising and achieving the great potentials in this field. Nigeria is far behind south Africa  in forensic science compliance. They are reaping the benefits. The State vs Oscar Pistorius case is a good example.

Forensics is beyond DNA to determine paternity. It has been used to solve several criminal and civil cases such as murder, rape, theft, arson, locate clandestine graves, genocide, mass graves, mass and natural disasters, identify missing persons, to determining the time of death, identifying adulterated food products such as honey...disprove alibi, verify insurance claims (those that will intentionally bash their vehicles to claim insurance money)..the list is endless!

Once again, if you want to be part of this project, you can use the comment box below or hit the contact page on the menu to reach out.

Help spread the Forensic word to colleagues, friends and family. Start with the list mentioned above on the capabilities of forensic science.

Nigerian Case Files! It can be a reckoned force for good in our great country!

Crime / Re: 21 Year Old Undergraduate Murdered By Police by zikclassiq(m): 7:48pm On Oct 14, 2015
From a Forensic point of view, autopsy will not determine the "kind of bullet" that killed the victim. Autopsy will determine the possible manner of death and cause of death.
Manner of death in this case is, was it homicide? If so, how? Was it gunshot from pointblank range, accidental etc. Manner of death in this case is what really killed him? Was it from blood loss, brain damage, punctured artery in the heart from the bullet or bullets wound? Etc.
These facts are needed to be established if justice is to be served. Forensic evidence is crucial to this case.
ADVICE
Get forensic experts or crime investigators to do the following:
1. Visit the crime scene.
2. Seek for possible bullet shells
3. Get a warrant from the court to examine the firearms used by the team of police that were present at the crime scene.
4. Analyse the firearms with comparison with the bullet shells possibly gotten from the crime scene and the actual bullets shot if stuck and found on the victim's body during autopsy.
5. Perform forensic ballistic analysis on each of the firearms and compare the striations and patterns of the controlled shots with that of the shells and bullet(s) recovered from the crime scene.
6. A possible match will be obtained if a firearm's bullet patterns is consistent with the recovered shell or bullet.
7. The owner of that firearm is responsible for the murder of the victim.
8. Except the police authorities will want to cover this up or frustrate this forensic investigation, IT IS POSSIBLE TO APPREHEND, CHARGE AND SUCCESSFULLY PROSECUT THE PEPERTRATOR OF THIS MURDER.
NB.
This is just a rough, brief and overview of what is expected to be done from a forensic point of view given the description of the case as stated by the media.
