There may be bound to be conflict, you may need to turn one off while running the other.

In regards to the port 8080 issue, please try another port.

YOLAJO-KENAN:
huhAPACHE PORT:8080 ISSUE huh

I'm very grateful. I've been following this lesson and infact, God bless Mr. Lecturer!
Nevertheless, I am having some issues regarding the apache port:8080. Honestly I installed Oracle 11g on my laptop and it is working perfectly. Now that I installed "ampps server", whenever I START Apache it gives error message: "apache port:8080 is being used by another application".
I there any way I can use both oracle dbase server and the apache server simultanously? What's the solution pls, becuase other students left me far behind...
Eagerly waiting to hear a positive response from you Sir.

There is no where in the cause of installing Joomla that you are directly involved in creating table. Please outline the process that took you there. A screenshot of the error page will also help us resolve the issue.

Inevitably you have to expend some MBs to get started. You may ask a friend to do it for you. You can try a cybercafe.

WAMP or XAMPP can do as well.

Did you change the Apache Configuration file httpd.php "Listen" to "Listen 8080"? Else, try http://localhost.

eyenCalabar: Hello Tutor, pls am just starting the class now but the challenge I have right here is that the localhost:8080/phpmyadmin is not bringing up anything. Help out pls.
WebmastersRe: Please Will Glo Bolt Modem Work For Hostgator Cpanel ? by ZinoFego: 7:32am On Jan 06, 2014
When an ip floats or dynamic ie it changes frequently, you'll be automatically logged out of your cpanel for security reasons. Host with high level security sees that as a compromise, hence to protect you, you'll be logged out.

So use any other network apart from Airtel.

ebukaezeh: so pls wat do u suggest i do tenx

My lecturer, pls I am still unable to install joomla...
WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 6:57pm On Jan 05, 2014
Don't worry, it will install. Follow the instructions below to start all over again.

1. Uninstall AMPPS.
2. Restart your system.
3. Reinstall AMPPS. When you click on Apache, change its configuration file to the one I'll paste below. Your localhost URL will become: http://localhost:8080
4. Then create your Database, its Username in http://localhost:8080/phpmyadmin
5. Reinstall Joomla using http://localhost:8080/ampps

*****Apache Configuration File Below*******

# IMPORTANT
# {$path} is used to specify AMPPS installation path

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "{$path}/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "{$path}/apache/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache"wink.
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "{$path}/apache"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080

You do not have to halt your ongoing installing, this runs independent of that.

You should have a screenshot as shown below if you use http://localhost:80/ampps/. Try different browsers.

For sure I've tried that...Or do I hurt the already installing ones?

I had this same issue with my first installation of Joomla 3.1, I had to try several times before the installation was able to complete. Though subsequent ones didn't give a problem.

Alternatively, since you are using AMPPS, please use the steps below to auto-install Joomla using Softaculous.

1. Enter http://localhost/ampps
2. Click Portals/CMS
3. Click Joomla
4. Click Install
5. Enter the required parameters
6. Click Install.

I hope that will help.

WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 3:17pm On Jan 05, 2014
Yeah....but a different website entirely. Because if you are installing the same website in two browsers, when one finishes, the other will give error.

eze-best:
Ok Boss, but can I install concurrently using firefox and chrome?....Hmmm, already testrunning ooo; to go with the one that finishes first.
WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 2:42pm On Jan 05, 2014
Yeah, but it will surely complete. You may use Google Chrome, if it takes too long in the other browsers.

eze-best:
Alright, already installing but it's taken decades to do that...lol
WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 2:15pm On Jan 05, 2014
Joomla will automatically check all values for you, if there are errors, you must correct them before moving to the next step.

You're the bomb bro! A great and patient teacher indeed, I have seen where I missed it, didn't download an extractor and also never extracted the Joomla files. I just did that now and got the required result. Thanks man!

Please read from page 0-14 of this thread. We have actually gone a long way.

showby: The class is slow. It is not moving as expected. I suggest you concentrate more using practical application using Joomla. It looks like we are still setting up Joomla since. Or am I missing something?
WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 1:26pm On Jan 05, 2014
Ok. Now do this.

1. Redownload a fresh copy of Joomla.
2. Create a new folder into Ampps/www
3. Then run the installation again.

eze-best:
I get this once I click "JoomlaTraining"

WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 12:30pm On Jan 05, 2014
So is your error coming at the point of installation?

eze-best:
Followed your class from the beginning where I downloaded both Joomla and Ampps applications as you instructed. I went on to install tha Ampps app and continue with creating a local server (localhost:80/) because the Apache worked fine without modification; after which you directed we copy the JoomlaTraining folder to the www sub-folder of the Ampps before creating a Database (localhost:80/phpmyadmin)....I did all these; added user, check all necessary boxes...
WebmastersRe: Joomla FREE Training On Nairaland Live!!! by ZinoFego(op): 12:00pm On Jan 05, 2014
Database creation? I am kinda lost here. Please outline how you got there.

eze-best:
Exactly the screenshot you posted bro; even worked fine to the point of database creation...
