@ hotstepper i don't blame you jare guess you don't want no akata murdering you one day. On a more serious note though, love doesn't know nationality, when you fall in love the song changes and you go with your heart, home made or abroad made. like my other sistas i don't care who it is, so long as the flame of love is burning bright. who cares! |
syrup:abeg ask them oh, i bet they're as myopic as the guy behind "da vinci code"[ |
like others have said before the things of God are not understood by human minds or intelligence, that is why God has hidden his deep things from the wise and prudent and has revealed them to babes. it's not amazing how some people purposely or ignorantly trample on the things of God. the bible says in Rom 8: 26 "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." that scripture i believe better elaborates the angelic aspect of speaking in tongues in that scripture. @ MrMayor you are awaiting the time ministers would preach in other tongues, can u show me a place in the bible where the disciples "preached" in other tongues. i believe the act experience was the disciples praying and not preaching, 'because as u well know they would not be preaching at the same time rather they were blessing the lord and declaring his wonders, remember peter had to stand up with the other to explain (most definitely) in the tongue understood by the general populace what was going on. paul's explanaition about tongues and prophesy is completely different from your assumption he said in Rom 14: 2-3 2For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.[b] 3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort with that you should understand that tongues is for the speaker's edification be it angelic or man and it's no crime if no one understands it. however prophecy needs to be interpreted by the speaker or another who has a gift to interpret. |
@ Lunafish, @ Jagunlabi, @ IAH being a christian really is not about the good works or to quote you "christian values" it is more about a relationship with God, and a relationship with God can be developed by truely handing over your life to christ and allowing him to birth a new you by his spirit, associating with fellow christians as well as by studying your bible, praying and listening out for God. the bible makes us to understand that no one is an island, that's why God never placed all the ministerial gifts in one person's life. tell mii how are you going to grow in that other aspect in which you are not endowed if you don't mix up with other believers. the bible also says iron sharpens iron, remember the pharisees followed the law to the letter word but what did jesus say about them he said you're like your father the devil, tell mii weren't they doing what moses commanded them to do? yes they were but the motive behind is was more important, you don't have to go to church to please anyone but sincerely and i wouldn't say going to church is a criteria for being close to God it's just one of the ways by which you build a relationship with God. and like others have been pointing out to you it's a command in the bible "forsake not the assembly of other believers" (paraphrased) |
Awwwwwww!! that's so sweet mamaput and i hope you really enjoyed the breakfast. Happy mother's day!! have a splendid day |
hey all, Today is mother's day and the thought of it alone takes mi back in time to the different instances when my mother showed up for mii like she was super man (maybe woman), for that I'm sending out this poem to her Mother, You who bears the sweetest name and adds luster to the same Whose heart, like a rose, is always open, always loving and tender The world marvels at your splendor gazing at the depth of your grandeur. Astonished, they enquire of mii “who is this marvelous work of art and with pride I respond saying “Esa es mi mama y ella es la mejor mama del mundo” (that is my mum & she is the best mum in the world) For all the times I never said, how I felt along the way-- Mom, for the things that I recall, To me you are the sweetest of all And for that and more I and my siblings crown you The World’s Best Mum MAMA WE LOVE YOU WITH ALL THAT IS IN US!!! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!! |
davidylan:David, it shows how much you know about the world around you (not to sound insulting) i mean you reside in NY and you don't even have a clue, with all the 24hr news and all, bro wake up and get to know the world around you, there is so much going on that requires apt attention. @ seun that's indeed something to look into, i never knew about that guy, i guess it's so much we're not keeping up with residing outside the country, but if sincerely the guy has terrorist tendencies do you think he would be alone on this, he definitely would have his crew and killing him would only trigger a lot more violence from his pals (whoever those could be). am i making sense? |
Sweetie take a leap out of fantasy land, Abegie!! who will offer you 2 million for a babe, when he knows he can tell you never to show face in that house, like someone said "chance you". i won't condemn you though, you're trying to make nairaland fun. mii i won't say jack about this, na you know wetin you dey think wey make start this thread. |
for real seun, i was just telling my mum about it and considering the fact that something similar to that was done during the iraq invasion, they claimed there were weapons there and till now the world is still awaiting the weapons they found. unortunately uncle sege and his crew wouldn't say a word, they would just sit there and allow these foolishness to pass over them, i still wonder what the catch was with iraq though. @ Afeni that is really interesting and something that amazes mii, i always have to tell them Africa is just another continent like South America, Asia, Europe etc but trust mii they still look at me like what the heck is she talking about. it's sad 'because America would not seek ways to educate their kids all they do is misinform them on the animals they believe walk around on African streets |
hey Queenzy never had a converstaion with you, but wouldn't be left out in the happy birthday greetings. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY SIS, Wishing you all that you have ever desired, have a fun filled year. |
hmmmm true talk, Bush can't go to war without the necessary support but don't you think they might give him the support he needs if according to some Nigerians, NIGERIA has indeed become a name to be feared by the ordinary American, they claim some people won't even transact business with you once they know you're Nigerian, really pathetic! (I'm yet to experience that though) and it indeed is a pity that Nigeria hasn't really gained any positive name, but more hurting i believe so much in this country, where is our hope! |
@ seun I'm really serious, i was on the computer when i heard the news and that startled me, making me wonder how ignorant these people could be, then thinking deeper i said could it be possible that it all started with those in the north (not to be offensive) because i heard some months ago that nigeria was most likely the next country to be feared as regards terrorism but i didn't pay attention to it 'cos i assumed it was crap. sincerely i'm concerned now, and knowing how bush goes, all he thinks about is war and defending his country at the expense of others. @ Afeni well said, i would never believe that either, but who will convince Bush that even 13 yr old high school students are into this Yahoo stuff? who would let them know that Osama has no part in my country (if indeed he doesn't). very few things scare me and buddy this is one. |
Hi all Actually i noticed quite a number of threads have been started discussing similar issues, but i noticed they've long been deserted. I was watching the Fox news today and America believes that Nigerian scammers are associated to Osama, they believe every cent siphoned by these set of people are gotten to fund the next terrorist attack, folks what do you think please air your views. I don't believe it is all about terrorism but can i underestimate Osama? i really think measures should be taken to put a stop to this bad reputation our dear country has earned. but what can be done? I bet we don't want Nigeria to be the next war zone for the Americans! |
@ yagurldp ease up on rhodalyn, she is a sweet girl and i don't think she meant to spite you. Anywayz! i understand how you feel rite now, 'cos i'm in the same predicament (if i'm allowed to refer to your case as such), calls you all day (even calls you at 2.00am), wants to hang out with you like everytime, runs to you first if he needs anything, chats with you all night, and all sorts, but guess what he might be attracted to you and at thesame time he might just be trying to sleep with you, so put a stop to the confusion and ask him, i plan to ask this paticular guy in my life as well, i'm only waiting for the right time, we're going on a trip together (with other friends), but guess what i would advice that you be tactful in asking this, 'cos rejection ain't something you want to experience, don't pour out your feelings on him before realizing where you stand with him, and if you know wat's good for you don't give the clue you desire a certain answer, (you know how we run things). so honey good luck. |
la la la i don't agree convince mii |
what responsibilities if i may ask? |
how do you rate indecent? i think that's one thing we should consider, some outings just require sexy clothes, in my view my dinner dresses with lil cleavages going on or the alters and stuff though expose your body a lil bit are not bad, i get frantic when i see girls in clothes that have their big boobs popping rite in your face or skirts so short you can see their panties, i mean go to your clubs that way (na you know) but don't parade town like that, i think it's bad and isn't a mode of dresing for any decent girl, by the way guys really do disrespect you, take it from mii, i've been there! |
@ seun http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blwomeninventors.htm there you go seun read the last paragraph. |
@ Olex nice comment, i won't praise you totally though , but you have a point saying the society has been more male dominated that's why men have been able to invent more, but with women launching out i believe the number will increase, statistics has it that in the nearest future female inventors will hit about 50% of inventors, rising from the present 20%. |
what the heck! are men smarter than women? Actually i know we could focus on both sides and say it depends on the individual, but i'm not interested in that crap now. if my buddy bolex feels he can sit up there and talk about the inventions of men, i'm sorry to say "that is so so myopic" how are you sure these guys came up with those inventions by themselves, do you want to tell mii of a certainty that these guys all thot up these things and single handedly carried it out, forget about Nairaland, let's talk about the bigger stuffs. (not to disrespect the admin). @ Bolex Did you brag about guys coming up with ideas like MSN face of festac hi5 yahoo msn yahoo messenger computer electricity fire extinguisher airplane watch the majority of the things outlined they have to do with computer, to amaze you, did you know that a woman (Grace hopper) invented the first compiler? i didn't think so (just incase a compiler is a software program that makes other programs easier to write) and did you know that the same woman invented COBOL, a programming language which enables computers to communicate with one another? NO huh? Did you also know she was the first to "debug " a computer? i really do not think you knew all these 'because if you did you wouldn't proudly pronounce all the inventions of men which were possible due to the breakthrough of a woman. Medicine Gertrude Elion invented the leukemia-fighting drug 6-mercaptopurine and drugs that facilitated kidney transplants. Rachel Fuller Brown and Elizabeth Lee Hazen invented the worlds first useful antifungal antibiotic - nystatin (just to mention a few) Sincerely i don't think you want to get mii started on this. hollun a second, was the question about men being smarter than women! i think i just proved that to you by educating you on this. Go to bed with some added knowledge it costs nothing. (no hard feelings buddy) ![]() |
@Mrlawng high hopes huh? well, lets keep our fingers crossed. |
@ beyonce yes girl i concur, on those terms i'd know he's really ready to make mii his bride @Mrlawng so tiger, let's hit the aisle but hollun are you living the American Dream yet? hmmmmmmmm i didn't think so, you're just another med student, too bad it can't work , i need a Bro who's living the "American dream" (at least you know i'm a user)lol. ![]() @ all Actually i know it's not my place to say this but i think enough has really been said on this thread, we're just reiterating the same stuff over and over let's all move on. it's been an interesting conversation though. |
it's kool to have fun and jokes ain't bad either. well, old glory tell him 'cos i really think he needs help! and my guy on one knee, too bad you might have to remain on that knee foreva. lol. guess i might have to call out to my sistas in da house "Help! Help!! sistas get mii off da hook!!! they're crowding mii in" |
wateva guys, guess ya'll want to joke now, have fun! |
@ zebudaya well said bro preach it hard! |
@ mrlawng i agree with you, quite a lot of naijas hold professional jobs out here, that is good and indeed success is not enviromental. like you i'm a med student, but have you taken time to consider the big time surgeon who had to mop floors in london b'because no one would hire him, or the doctor who had to work as a carer (glorified maid) for 25 years 'because he couldn't pass some exams in the US inorder to be employed and he was too proud to go back home to start over , or the first class Lawyer who had to wash cars for years all because there was no place for him in the US. I'm amazed at your comment peradventure you need to read the portion i wrote to you again (above), i don't understand how we got to you "didn't" and you "wouldn't" infact i haven't accused you of anything so how could i try to channel your opinion. the only person i remember going "partially" against is Old glory and i don't think i disrespected him in anyway (not that you said i did), this is only a discussion why do we have to get all passionate and emotional about it, like i always say let's calm down, this nothing but a miniature conversation,Geeeeeeeeee!. |
gosh! pardon my error guys (the portion to spikey) , part of my response was for another thread (but i think the threads are related though) @ Inka, "finding a balance between your nigerian heritage and your new surrounding" is correct. i just read your post and i think that really made sense. |
hmmm, interesting! Actually i think i see sense in the topic that is the title given to the thread, to mii i think he's refering to Nigerians abroad who want to act like the westerner (if i'm not wrong). But so much as i take up for my bros and sis back home, i'm so sorry i can't agree with you on this Idekeson, nigerians living abroad are not really trying to fake it or act all up when they come home (except for a limited few, who i wonder what their stress is), it's just the nigerian mentality or better still the black man mentality, those of us from africa attach so much to the western world and those blacks abroad attach so much to the White but let's come back home and not deviate from the thread. Nigerians believe when anyone travels the person automatically is better than they are and they start treating them differently going out of thier way to please them, well that makes home boy or gal want to live up to whatever expectations you have placed on him/her, he has to act smart eventhough he might be another novice on the issue, but deep down most (note that now "most" of them want to be treated normally. About the food, it really does crack mii up to hear someone say they act like they don't eat eba or Amala, buddy you need to know that nigerians abroad eat virtually more local food than those at home, believe it, i mean this is what they grew up with, if you see them saying no to particular food it ain't forming, plzzzzzzzzzzzzz move up, they just don't feel like it, you don't blame a man for not eating a particular kind of food! and about "faking", y'all should understand something when you are a part of a particular society for long before you know it you start blending, my friend's mum lived in nigeria for 35 or more years and till today she speaks all the "abi, shebi, and lil pidgin" and believe mii her accent has traces of nigerian accent, wat does it matter, to us oh that is kool to hear an american speaking pidgin but if a broda or sista comes home with an accent we say they are faking, listen, no matter how much you try to stay natural once in a while you gat to compromise, most times we only find out that we ordinarily pronounce some things wrong and we learn to pronounce them right that is not forming, then with slangs, i mean if you roll with these pple there is no way you wouldn't pick up one or two of their slangs and guess what i have my friends speaking one or two nigerian words (must be they are faking huh? give mi a break!). Even within nigeria, if you relocate to a different vicinity most times you come back with couple of words from that localty, even an accent attimes. So what is that? forming as well, get real abeg! Spikey, i noted your annoyance at hotstepper for using the y'all stuff, i don't think that was on purpose i assume she's used to saying it that way and just used it, don't get offended at that. And about nigerians who speak with accents eventhough they've never been abroad i don't think that is forming either (not the Yo and stuff now and not the obvious foolishness some people engage in) if words are pronounced right there definitely is an accent to it, i can give you a practical example, we have our way of saying embarrass rite? but there was a day i was in a group meeting and we were reprimanding someone i said the word "embarrassed" (most likely i was using it for the first time around them) everyone stopped in their tracks wondering what the heck i just said and i repeated myself and my friends cracked rite up saying i pronounced it wrongly, i mean, this is mii who has more vocabs than quite a number of them, who helps them with their English assignments, infact tutors them (not to sound too smart) but i just didn't know i was wrong, well i played it off but do you think i would ever repeat it in that nigerian way? NO! i've learn't that and nothing can take that from mii, i'm not going to please anybody back home to repeat my error, NO SIR! but what am i driving at, if they've been or never been out of the country and they speak correctly it doesn't matter, neither is it forming. and someone noted that we try to speak all this big vocabs even better than the westerners them selves, well, too bad 'cos guess what the same way i study to learn these words is the exact way these westerners study to learn them and do you know that in the ordinary nigerian society we speak more vocabs than the average american? (i can't speak so much for europe), my lecturer actually told the students to ignore the word "volition in the text book ,because it's too big and it's rarely used, i couldn't hide the dumbfounded expression on my face, for Godsake quite a number of you know what volition is, you don't have to form or cram the dictionary for that! or is it a med student who didn't know the meaning of curfew, i'm not joking now, i'm being for real, the list goes on. so let's just appreciate ourselves and move beyond this idea that people are forming, rather i consider them learning (note i'm not talking about unneccesary slangs, that's based on individuals) and bros and sis back home stop treating these "just arrived" like they're too important, treat them like you would treat anyone, "home based or abroad based, white or black." |
@ beyonce1 kudos sis, i wasn't going to say any more on this issue because i noticed it was going to be an endless battle but i had to show my respect on that. just like you said, all i plead with my buddies out here for is sincerity, tell them as it is don't say because you decided to end your carrer and only work for the sake of working, life is better, face reality and accept the fact that if you were given a better option you would embrace it. like i have been screaming those who don't have choices keep doing your thing but aspire greater don't get stuck on the mentality the westerner is better than you, we all have blood running in our veins abeg! invest with the future generation in mind, successful western countries are the way they are today because their fore fathers took it upon themselves to build their nation let's hush on what nigeria is now and let's do our best to make it a better place for our kids (no one should come back with go and do it, because i'm doing my PART) |
@ old glory you really do crack mii up. well let it stay as it is. can we move on now!! |
@ old glory i see we're going to go on and on over this for ever so i will rest my case at this because we're all entitled to our opinions but i think you still need to calm down. i'm not trying to put down my bros and sis, what i'm saying is don't dump your future for uncertainty, if you have no choice do it, it's better than nothing but let us move beyond the facade and discuss in a realistic manner, will nigerians be sleeping in the embassy if they knew wat abroad entailed? would people be shipping my sisters abroad to prostitute them (unknowingly to these sisters) if they knew for sure what abroad was all about. you really think i'm dissing my bros and sis, i'm not and i will never do that, all i'm saying is don't settle for less you can be better. professional jobs are not for everyone but why can't we act like those westerners and do these jobs back home or why do we treat those that do these jobs at home like their second class citizens? A great number of those that do these jobs are not legal immigrants, you know that, why get locked up in a foreign country when you could struggle as a free man in your country and make it happen for you. A brother broke his leg the other day because he was trying to avoid a false immigration alarm, today the leg was amputated and he's still going to be deported, WHY? Well I'm a Programmer (because you really want to know) and i'm also a med student and i have done my quota to nigeria, (at least families are changing because i took the initiative). And did you ask me if i'm better than that American, who is doing wateva jobs you said they do, well deduce that from this, "whatever name you choose to go by is what people call you", I lay the standards for my life. let us not blow our tops unduely over this topic. i hope we're still kool. |
@ Old Glory were you that in a rush to respond? calm down! you could have invested that much zeal into going over the view portrayed, 'cos you obviously didn't understand all that i wrote. How in the world did you get the notion that my Dad pays my fees or how did you come to the conclusion that i didn't have a job? Bro I said "rather". Don't make mii believe you're in the same shoes with those that told Hotstepper she wasn't serious 'cos she wouldn't get a job in a factory. i'm a professional and i would not shove my certificate under the bed to work in the gas station, i know why i spent hard earned naira to get that degree. Concerning those odd jobs i was referring to those who have really done professional jobs back home, i don't mean the struggling students, probably you need to go over the write up again. but sincerely, did your comment amaze mii? No! Actually i don't mean that Nigeria is perfect, i know Naija has all it's ups and downs but my thing is this don't paint a picture of a stress free world to our buddies back home. Do u want to tell mii u're not aware that lots and lots of people desert steady lives, which most likely could have been better, to join in the rat chase abroad, if only these people were told the truth they probably would have worked harder back home and not run over here thinking dollars are found on the streets of New York, the same way you have to struggle to make Naira in naija is the same way you struggle over here to make dollars. Very true, a great deal of naijas are living the American dream and i don't dispute that, but should they be the measuring stick? NO! like @ mrlawng said success is not enviromental, that's my point, don't rub it in on nobody saying Nigeria is so bad, like no one could make it out there, i struggled in naija and i made it!! i have family memebers who made it as well, at thesame time i have those who have never handled real money, why? b'cos they believe life has to come good and wouldn't go the extra mile to make it good for themselves. watch this! why won't we work in a gas station in naija, tell mii bro, why won't we do odd jobs in naija ? don't tell mii b'cos naira is worthless, it's not true, we would not do it because we're too proud to, but abroad we don't care we do these same jobs and go back home acting like we're better off than those at home. Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!! @ mrlawng i agree with you, quite a lot of naijas hold professional jobs out here, that is good and indeed success is not enviromental. like you i'm a med student, but have you taken time to consider the big time surgeon who had to mop floors in london b'cos no one would hire him, or the doctor who had to work as a carer (glorified maid) for 25 years 'cos he couldn't pass some exams in the US inorder to be employed and he was too proud to go back home to start over , or the first class Lawyer who had to wash cars for years all because there was no place for him in the US. let's look beyond the food and the electricity, what could ever compare to self fulfilment? Buddies, NOTHING!! |
, but you have a point saying the society has been more male dominated that's why men have been able to invent more, but with women launching out i believe the number will increase, statistics has it that in the nearest future female inventors will hit about 50% of inventors, rising from the present 20%.
(no hard feelings buddy)
, i need a Bro who's living the "American dream" (at least you know i'm a user)lol.
