Travel / Re: Should I Stay and Complete My PhD Or Accept a 30 NZD Per Hour Job In New Zealand by Zupay: 6:06pm On Oct 16, 2023
Middleborn:
I just got a job offer in New Zealand, I am to earn 30 New Zealand dollars per hour.

I have been pursuing a career in academics and I currently run a PhD program in a federal University. I am currently in the field gathering my data.

Should i move to New Zealand or should I turn down the job to complete my PhD? Or is there a way to continue and finish my PhD program via video conferencing since I just have to present my research work.
Please help me. Tell me what may work in this situation.

It is your university that you should be asking that, not Nairalanders.

Nairobi but relocating to Kenya is now on the high side as flight ticket alone is almost one million naira as against the N240K I paid back then.

Nobody is talking about the big Elephant in the room, which is lack of electricity. This week I've spent 58,000 naira on fuel for my generator for work, that is full tank for alot of cars every week, and the car owners are complaining, what about us that need Electricity to work. I barely get 6 hours of electricity, I tried buying solar, but the conditions are too much, turn off this, turn this on, don't use this bulb. Mehn, plus I can't turn on AC while working. Since my work is from home I decided to buy a laptop worth 1million here on Nairaland (thanks to Nairaland )just to ease my work, atleat I get 4 hours of break in severe heated room with my laptop.

How else can someone survive in this country with this low electricity, is there any state that is better? Or is it a must I have to travel to another African country just to get simple electricity to work. My generator just went off and my fuel gone, that why I came here to rant. I'm going to buy feul at 615 naira per litre cry

Na that poor electricity situation gingered me as a freelancer to leave Nigeria early 2017 for Nairobi, Kenya. Rented a bedsitter (self con) same day I arrived. bought a mattress, camp gas, 3 pots, cutleries and a bucket, used one of my mama wrapper I came with as the window curtain, the other as bedsheet...days of humble beginnings but did achieve so much there. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Electricity in Nairobi is 24/7, people don't own generators in their homes....enjoyed my 4 and half years in Kenya before moving on.

This is sad for a country sitting on one of the world's largest gas deposits. To even afford cooking gas is a luxury. Are we to go back to the days of firewood and coal burners?!

And it's not even December yet.

With the alarming deforestation going, where will the firewood come from?

That’s true, but is it that Igbos did not have any identity before British.

Why would a winter cap be your identity?

There’s no winter in west Africa

Don't forget that Reno the historian said the Yoruba started to exist after the British arrived in the Southwest.🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don’t have issue with every Igbo

I have issue with Anambra Igbo

And that’s because they’re the only state that insults Ebonyi.

I curse them from the pit of hell.

Dave Umahi will leave their federal roads to their hands, as he should.

Good to know that you are already in the pit of hell.

Breaking news, Umahi would visit Anambra state for road inspect and FG would work on the roads there moreover, the funding will not come Umahi's pocket nor from the money contributed by your kinsmen.

Ebonyi people will reply them with brute force for instigating media propaganda against our Dear State.

Your account is as worthless as a used sanitary pad.

It seems someone in your kindred has openly questioned your paternity, thus the perpetual anger in you.

Redirect your anger in pushing your leaders to retain more of your boys in school and those not academically inclined ,learn a vocational skill, instead of them exploiting those youngsters, using them in hawking what is not even worth up to £30 from morning till night on Nigerian streets.

Ask your mother who truly is your father because your persistent anger towards indigenes from other South Eastern States is not natural as there is something in your blood not igbo.
