I feel ur pain guy, I was told the same too when i just bought my HP notebook with Vista and guys were tellin me to switch to XP, what bullshit!

Microsoft know what they're doing by innovating vista which is actually the Bomb!!!!!
If ther'e's any problem with Vista, it gosta be the "drivers incompatibility" which is actually a matter of time.

and i'm out like that

Guy's, downgrade back to xp if u dont hv an internet conn at home. But if u do hv an internet conn then just leave it.
The vista, longhorn and the latest win xp unlimited available now are just demo versions the real version 'bout to come.
Re: Whats Actually Wrong With Vista? by anusule(m): 3:45pm On Jan 02, 2008
another crap about 'demo version' undecided
Re: Whats Actually Wrong With Vista? by bigrovar(m): 11:24am On Jan 03, 2008
I used to think that vista was tha Bomb too, until i found out that that shit is just a stupid memory hug, the problem of vista are so numerous it cant all be discussed in one reply, i setup a thread a while back to help pple with vista problem and it had over 3000 views and about 200 post https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-58218.0.html all kind of problems, u can check it out to see what some of the problem is , for me my first beef with vista is the fact that it uses soo much memory, i mean on idle mode vista uses about 650MB of ram, mehn that is crap so i use 40% of my 2gb ram to run an OS where as Xp less than 200mb on idle mode, now try runing internet explorer, windows media player, or some memory intensive app like corel draw or photoshop u will find out that u are consuming about 1.5gb of ram, so if u dont have the money to buy a system came with 2gb of ram, then u will have to be ready to shell out 50,000 Naira just to buy ram for ur system, it doesnt make sense, withg xp u can use 512 of ram without whahala,
Vista is also very slow, compared to Xp, U cant just compare the response u get on vista to what u get when u are on xp, believe me, this is my 3rd vista machine so i know what am talking about
add the driver issue and the fact that it is almost impossible to customize except u want to buy a 3rd party app like window blind.
i usually envy my friend using xp cus i cant do most of what he does ,

yeah yeah i know many of u would write back to say that am wrong, just wait till all the Glossiness wears out , then u too would be posting ur problem at my vista problem thread.
Re: Whats Actually Wrong With Vista? by DualCore1: 12:10pm On Jan 03, 2008
Lets all wait for vista SP1, the present one is still very much in its beta stages so there are so many compatibility issues. people who say Vista is good and nothing is wrong with vista are just superficial computer users who just look at the "Look 'n' Feel" of vista. yeah the "Look 'n' Feel" is good, but tht's not all about the Vista OS. Fact is, the "Look 'n' Feel" is very good, tht's why my XP would always look like vista. i'll rather use xp with registry tweaks and a vista "look 'n' feel" than use the present Vista. things should get better with Vista in SP1.

@ big brovar , too true.

i'm dual booting vista and xp on my new laptop - dell precsion m90 2.0 ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, 160gb(5400rpm)  hdd,4mb cache, quadro fx 1500m card, .the system is SLOW. i've onlly had d sys 4 a week. yesterday, i resolved to resize the partition and ( when i installed vista, using its partition utility, it took a whopping 125gb of the hard drive!) and install most of my apps on XP. (while running xp, i have  1400- 1200 mb ram free.under vista, it falls to 800- 1100mb. i have a few vista books.the best , for me, are tweak vista by tweak guides and hacking vista by extreme tech. they provide all sorts of tips on speeding vista- disavble defender, disable indexing(that thing dey chop cpu no be small etc) with all my tweaking the sys was still slow.yesterday, i resolved to rersize my XP partition and move most of my files to XP.(think about it, all i'm getting out of vista is eye candy that can be emulated by window blinds) the resizing thing didn't work. eventually, i created another user account in vista, and moved my files there. my system is runing much more smoothly now. not that it matters.( installing vista was a mistake. if i could get four or five free days, i'd delete the vista partition and and run xp alone.  i only hope that when sp1 gets out, these problems will be addresed.for some reason, i have been unable to install the SP1 RC.

note however, that you may improve vista's performance if you download highlighted updates from MS download center.

i'm looking to get hold of 1gb ram and a 250gb 7200 rpm sata drive. then i'll clone my laptop hrd drive to tht and resize my xp partition to take up the spare space.
Re: Whats Actually Wrong With Vista? by Nobody: 12:18pm On Jan 03, 2008
@ dual core

- most of the stuff that comes with vista is too bothersome. i disabled UAC. after my third application install. system ptotection was using up to 30gb of hard disk space. there was no external option for adjusting this. in xp, you can determine how much space you reseve for system restore. there's a way around this - through the command line( run as administrator). most of the real vista tweaks have to be done in this way. it seems MS resolved to take control from the user in more ways than one. i am a resource monitoring freak, i have apps in my task bar that how my ram( free ram xp) my free hard disk space (HDD Life) my CPU (proces explorer) the search index keeps on coming up without warning. it's a big resources hog.

the joke out there is that vista sp1 will upgrade vista to xp. manufacturers are actually shipping vista systems with xp restore disks, thats how bad it is. yes, vista is a work in progress, burt what then, were all the beta and RC1 editions last in 2006 for?after all the prereleases, you cannot call vista a beta system.

Hi, the thing is that the 1st tyme vista was produce there were litle errors wit it and the 2006 edition was not a full sucess.Bt i blive that there will be a beter OS' this year.
Re: Whats Actually Wrong With Vista? by anusule(m): 5:03pm On Jan 03, 2008
The thing is if your PC dosent meet the proper requirements for vista, you cant enjoy it. Proper requirements like 2GB RAM. Vista is not just about ''look and feel'', it has features XP lacks. Its faster, and smarter.
Also, if you have no access to the internet for updates, then screw you, there are many new updates to vista. These updates are there to fix those bugs you all complain of. since SP1 is coming out, Vista would only get better.

I cant help but smile. You 'have' 2GB, 2.0GHZ, Core2Duo, 4MB cache, e.t.c and your 'new laptop' running vista is still slow? shocked hmm

u think ur system is fast abi, why dont u load xp on the same specs then u would know what we are talking about, i use sony vaio fz21e 160gb,2gb ram,core2 duo 2.0ghz on nvidia graphic card 8400 , definitaly not the best system out there when it comes to configuration, but u cant call it low either, but vista drags on this system, and please dont tell me that i over loaded it with apps, i know windows well than to load it up with irrelevant 3rd party apps infact i had to disable all my startup programs except my AV even with that vista acts like a Bitch, draging and slowing me down, although i read some where that the new SP1 for vista has addressed the issue, but i havnt tried it out

dual booting is so 2007. get a copy of parallels workstation, make sure you have at least one gig of ram and you can run vista simultaneously with win xp in different windows. parallels creates a virtual machine on your system and you can have up to 5 virtual machines. you can run linux, vista and xp ALL AT THE SAME TIME and share files across virtual machines. unfortunately i can't post a link to a keygenned version because El Diablo will 'otherwise:BAN' me. so if you can't find it on your own, drop a mail.

or get a copy of Vlite (its free) and use a vista cd to strip vista of all the unnecessary bloatware and create a slim version that can fit on a cd rom. its really your choice what you strip out and leave in and before you know it you have a copy of ultimate that can run of 512mb ram with no probs. its really very easy. you can even remove all that ton of drivers and embed your own. i have vista ultimate thats only 700mb.
