What, Who, When?:

- The merge of Multilinks, MTS and Starcomms to form CAPCOM is nearing conclusion and the new company is set to begin operations by November

How?:

- An American core investor and others emerged from the $200 million (32 billion naira) CAPCOM deal

- Others with interest in the new CAPCOM include; Oldonyo Laro Estate with five percent share; Bridgehouse Capital Limited which has three percent stake; Asset Management Company of Nigeria which has two percent and Private Equity Investors with one percent stake

Why?:

- For a while now, CDMA operators have been at a disadvantage to compete with other telecommunication companies as a result of low capitalisation, poor promotion of CDMA technology, subscribers’ preference for GSM telephony, and corporate governance issues.

LCM?:

- Multilinks, MTS and Starcomms are coming together to become CAPCOM, and is expected to roll out services in November.
